This place was disappointing for a couple reasons. The side dishes were awesome and there were about 14 of them! Woah! Not many Korean places give you that many. We got tteokbokki as well and that was pretty standard. My boyfriend got dolsot bibimbap, which was OK. I tried it and wasn’t really impressed because the bowl wasn’t very hot like it should be. I ordered yangnyeom chicken because I’d been missing it so much, but when I received it the chicken was PINK. Absolutely raw in the middle. I had to send it back, and they thankfully gave us a refund, but I was so disappointed. I wonder if we came on an off night because there was no one else in the restaurant until we got up to leave and one other couple walked in. Despite all of the good reviews this place got, I wasn’t impressed. It’d be a two-star if it weren’t for the side dishes.

The food is amazing! The beef bulgogi is delicious, but i recommend the combo plate that also includes chicken for the same price if you’re sharing. The sides were delicious and refilled often. The restaurant looked very clean, but it appeared that only one person was serving the whole restaurant on the weekday we went. It was pretty busy so we were definitely impressed.

I apologize, Mo Du Rang, for past Yvonne wrongly reviewing your establishment based off a togo order! I don’t know what it is about rainy days but I recently returned on a rainy day and that 30 minute trek from Elk Grove was so worth it! My VIP date was craving their dumpling soup and ended up ordering two lunch specials(BOGO50% off with Unilocal check in) in addition to kimchi rice cakes. That, along with the generous servings of side dishes, left us with plenty to take home for a delicious dinner. What looked like a plain soup was full of flavor and was just the most comforting dish for a gloomy day. The dumplings have just the right amount of meat, flavor and the added clear noodles and sliced rice cakes gave the soup more dimension. I wanted to save my stomach and only eat one bowl but ended up eating a second! Both pork and chicken bulgogi lunch specials came out on a hot sizzling plate. Hearing the crackling of our food was just as fun as eating it! Btw, Unilocal check in is a bit misleading and is strictly limited to pork and chicken lunch specials. Finally, kimchi rice cakes are always my favorite. I love the chewy texture and the slightly spicy flavor. Although the place is a bit old and décor is a bit off, I love that each table is sectioned off. Makes it feel more authentic and I was able to drool over the food and my babe more privately. ;)

This Place Was Super Good. A Little Pricey But Worth The Money. The Side Dishes Were On Point. They Give A Lot Of Food & They Come Back To Refill Your Side Dishes. The Lady Was Really Nice. Everything Was Good Here. Totally Recommend This Place When You Crave Korean Food Instead Of Korean BBQ.

wifey and i were wanting some korean and found this place on Unilocal.wasn’t sure if the 30 min drive would be worth it, but we’re so glad that we came. the décor is pretty standard, random posters and framed 3-d waterfalls pictures but we came for the food and that was really good. it was surprisingly busy for a tues night and we had a short wait(10−15mins) but no big deal. we both ordered the soft tofu soup and they were even able to make mine a beef/seafood combo. they didn’t skimp on the small side dishes(panchan) of various types of kimchi, fish cake and salads. i got medium hot just in case, but it wasn’t too strong. i think i’ll do spicy next time. even though it was busy they checked on us multiple times to refill water and side dishes. we’ll be back!

Anyway, first time i came, my server was really nice; second time was nice also but she was kinda ghetto lol The food was good, and the price wasn’t that bad. I would say its one of the best korean place in davis-sacramento area. I would def come here again

Positive note: i’ll be writing a wonderful review for Hakook Tofu House, which is one plaza over and so much nicer. I really hate giving one star reviews. Out of the 120+ reviews I’ve given so far only 8 over the past few years have been one star, I can’t even remember my last one star. Unfortunately this review is only on service because we ended up leaving 15 minutes after entering. I don’t even have a picture of water because we didn’t receive anything! I definitely want to come back and give this place a second chance, but for now this review is solely based on the experience and service we were greeted with. I’m writing this relaxed and with a full belly(so rest assured it’s not a heat of the moment review) but a couple hours earlier that wasn’t the case. A friend suggested this place and said it was pretty good. We were in the neighborhood looking for our new local korean restaurant and were excited to try this place. Some of the reviews led us to believe the service may be slow or the meager workers in there would be stingy, alas we decided to give it a try. Upon arrival we were greeted with the lovely sticker that says«People love us on Unilocal!» and a sign that said«HIRING: Cook, Dishwasher and waitress». That should have been a sign that they were severely understaff. We walked in, no greeting or anything. So we’re standing there in the restaurant which is oddly designed in my opinion. It’s very closed off to me as there are partitions for every table giving it a very private look. I had so much time to notice the interior because no one acknowledged us. That is BAD service, we stood there in the middle of the restaurant for a solid few minutes not being acknowledged at all just listening to the people talk to themselves. Not even a look up or anything. Finally we get acknowledged by a waitress who was genuinely nice, but in my opinion overwhelmed with customers and that meant the service we received was not adequate. We sit down and receive one menu. Not two, one. The waitress says she’ll be «RIGHTBACK» with another menu. So here we are awkwardly in our boxed table area and trying to share one menu that’s 5 – 6 pages double sided trying to both order. We wait another solid 10 minutes to even get asked about water and inquire about the additional menu only to be told there’s a party in the back and they’re out of menus??? What kind of restaurant under supplies menus? The issue we personally had was why the heck did the lady not tell us that initially? Did she think it would offend us? Why not be transparent and tell us «I just want to let you know that there’s a larger party in the back and we are out of menus at the moment.» Instead we wait 10+ minutes just for her to come back and tell us about the party, what a damn waste of our time. On top of that the restaurant was not full, there were empty tables. And guess what? A party of 10 comes in and I can hear the lady telling them they have NO menus. So here we are stuck with one menu and the new big party comes in and there’s nothing for them as well. So we’re still looking at our menu, we asked for water 15 minutes ago by this point and are listening to the party of 10 say they should just order now before they get seated. At that point I was overwhelmed. I had questions about the menu, about dishes, but there was one person working. Knowing the huge party in the back was ordering before our party of two as well as the party of 10 was putting in their order before us was all I could take unfortunately. A minimum of 15 – 20 dishes ahead of a party of two? No water after almost 20 minutes, attempting to share one menu, terrible service to begin with. No thanks. We left. Every person has a different experience and maybe some day I’ll be back to try. But customer service is a big deal and I’d never give money to a restaurant that treated me like this. *A big downside to this place was that there was no combo. I personally favor having a combo for soup and meat. Prices were pretty expensive for certain items. Unless it was a typo they’re serving was fantastic, 28 dollars for beef short ribs??? That was a bit excessive to see.

I went to lunch at 1:30 pm on Christmas day. I ordered bimbi bapb thinking they all came in a bowl. It turned out to be a fried rice at $ 12. I can stay home making cheap and better fried rice. Just plain rice and slapped shrimp on top. After I have her credit card, she yelled at me, you need to leave me TIP.’ I told her I left you cash and you are very rude. I wont come back. The owner is waitress, cashier, etc. Her mom is the cook. No wonder there is no customers for lousy slow service. Food doesn’t taste good. Don’t believe the picture of the side dishes you see in Unilocal. It is pricy, bad service. I would rather Go to Bento box on Folsom street near Fulton and Howe for better bimbi bap, for better food great service and cheaper.

Love this place! The atmosphere was nice and felt very authentic. I love when I eat Korean food and hear people speaking in Korean. I feel like that’s how it would be in Korea lol. Anywayyyy. They offer so many choices of Banchan! I felt to overwhelmed because I went alone and it looked like I was eating for 2 lol! I went with their spicy pork and they even offered me miso soup. Everything was delicious! I was so full I had to bring some home. Haha. Will definitely becoming back! Oh! I also ordered deokbokki to-go and it was great!

First time here and I really enjoyed myself! What I loved about the place other than a BUNCHOFBANCHAN, was the partitions that have to separate the tables for a little privacy. I order the bossam* which was really good and serves two. I wouldn’t recommend if you have a weak palate. The second dish we ordered was the lunch size galbi. It was good but a little pricey for the amount. All n all the food was good the service was good and will be retuning!!!

I really love this place. It’s small and is lightly-staffed but the food is delicious! They offer so many banchan dishes(japchae on weekends!) that I usually fill up on the banchan before the main course comes out. Speaking of main course, I love their bibimbaps and I’m very much in favor of the seafood one. Comes with baby shrimp, octopus, calamari, and a mussel or two. My friend loved the tonkatsu and the chicken bulgogi. Regarding my previous statement of it being small and lightly-staffed: although the dining area is smaller than others, the tables are arranged in a way that each has adequate room in a private, partitioned area. The service is great. I believe it was the owner(the only waitress in the restaurant that day) who took such good care of us and made sure our food was satisfying. Even when they do have a larger wait staff, they are all very kind, quick, and thorough. I could foresee the restaurant having issues if they were swamped on a Saturday night but thankfully, the few times that I went to Mo Du Rang it was a very good and efficient experience.

Sides yummy: my favorite are the fish pieces and potatoes. The Kim chi was way too sour for my liking. We got Bulgogi and noodle soupy for the rainy weather. Bulgogi is super pricey and very sweet, not the best Bulgogi I’ve had. My boyfriend disagrees though. The Noodle soup was lackluster, nothing special and I don’t think worth it to get. Weekends they give free clear noodles side dish, yummy especially with Bulgogi! +star for the awesome service. This place usually hits the spot when I crave Korean food. It’s hard to decide between this and sarang bang

It really pains me to say that I am torn as to what rating to give to Mo Du Rang. Mo Du Rang is by all means a very respectable Korean food establishment– the food is scrumptious and the hostess was very sweet. Bless her heart, she really tried her best, but with one hostess serving the entire restaurant, the service is understandably, more than a little slow. 4 stars for food, but the overall experience was less than a 4, I would say. I made a same day dinner reservation for a large party, which they were readily able to accommodate. Upon entering the restaurant, I understood why– at 7pm, there was plenty of space. This is a shame, because the food is really quite good, but I don’t know how they would have handled serving even more customers when they are clearly short staffed. There was an extremely large party seated across from us– something like 15+ people. After we were seated, we saw the hostess bustling around their table, filling waters and bringing out the banchan, which hilariously comes rolled out on a cart– yes, they give you that much banchan. It took a while before the hostess approached our table to take our order. In the middle of taking our order, she stopped, apologized, and said that she had to rush back to the kitchen to grab the food for the other table to serve it to them before it got cold. This was understandable and she did apologize, so I let this one slide. When she returned to finish taking our order, we inquired about a kimchi pancake. She said that they did not have that on the menu, but she would see if they could make one. We were all pretty much starving when we arrived at the restaurant, so we were hoping the banchan would be served shortly after our orders were taken, but it took… a rather long time before the banchan cart appeared at our table. The banchan was delicious and they have such a great variety, plus free refills on banchan that you’ve finished. Another downside of having only one hostess running the restaurant is that other aspects of the service begin to suffer. It took a while before all members of our party received water, and when we tried to order barley tea for the table, it took forever before we could actually catch the hostess to tell her, and then it also took forever before she brought us the tea(which was delicious, by the way). This is another reason why I am so torn about the rating for Mo Du Rang– our hostess was so darn sweet. She was always apologizing profusely for the lack of attentive service. Food: +Kimchi pancake: I was actually very pleasantly surprised that we were able to order this off menu. Kimchi pancakes are delicious and this one did not disappoint. When it was brought to our table, the hostess said that it was on the house because of the long wait time for everything. +Seafood pancake: There was plenty of seafood in the seafood pancake(as there should be in all good seafood pancakes. Dur.) and the flavor was good. What more can you say? +Bulgogi and chicken bulgogi: Both of these were tender and flavored well. I could just eat bulgogi all day. +Spicy crab soup: We ordered this at mild spiciness because we were trying to cater to all members of our party. There was a slight kick to the soup, even at mild, so I suspect that normally it is quite spicy. The flavor of the soup was good, but I suspect crab is not the best thing to order. They do give you some large crab legs, but they are difficult to eat without some sort of crab cracker. We tried just biting the legs with our teeth, but the crab legs that we were given had some sharp spikes on them, which made biting the legs… painful. +Ddukbokki: We also ordered this at mild spiciness. I was really confused when this first came out because the rice cakes were still white, whereas I am used to seeing them more red, since they are supposed to be drenched in spicy sauce. Nonetheless, even without the spiciness, the flavor was good, so I suspect for people who enjoy spicy foods, the ddukbokki would be even better when ordered at normal spiciness. If you are planning to surprise someone for his/her birthday here, Mo Du Rang is kind enough to allow you to store ice cream/cake in their fridges/freezers. However, make sure that you tell the staff that it’s supposed to be a surprise. Our hostess kind of let the cat out of the bag when she stopped by the table and was like, «Oh, you guys brought a thing, right? Ice cream? Do you want to have that here?» tl;dr: The food here is quite good and the hostess is super super super sweet. If only they would get her some more help so the service could be better and the wait time could decrease.

Came here for lunch one day with hubs cause I was craving Korean food. And it had one of the highest reviews for Korean food. Walked in and looked around, it had cute décor and it had little walls to divide amd make more private areas for people. We were immediately greeted by the server and she showed us a table and got us situated. Handed us some menus to browse through. I’ve been eating Korean food most of my life so I knew what I what I was really craving. The server bought us glasses of water and we were to order. We decided to order off the lunch menu, hubs orders the Chicken bulgogi and I ordered the Bim Bim Bop. Sever left and came back and brought us our banchan dishes, there were 11 total! I was pretty stoked because I saw fish cake stir fry(Eomuk-Japchae), picked radish, fresh napa cabbage kimchi salad(Baechu Geotjeori), broccoli salad, seasoned mung bean sprouts salad(Sukju Namul Muchim), spicy cucumber salad, simply seasoned Korean spinach salad(Sigeumchi Namul), simmered lotus root in soy sauce(Yeon-gn Jorim), thinly sliced radish kimchi(Mu Saengchae), seaweed with shredded radish(Miyeok) are the ones I can remember. Food came out all fresh and piping hot and smelling great. hubs chicken bulgogi came on a sizzle plate with white onions underneath and a side of rice and mines came out in a nice big bowl beautiful put together and with a bottle of the spicy sweet sauce for me to mix in. I loved that we can ask for more sides if we like(yay fish cake!!). The server always came to check on in on us and refilled our water several times. For the cost of 2 people eating there for lunch it was a really good price, under $ 20. Would recommended for anyone who loves Korean food.

Solid meal with a comfortable interior. I love how the tables are sectioned off by cute walls so each party gets their own space. The bonchons were delicious with a nice selection. Hands down the best kimchi I’ve had in the area. The candied potatoes are always a favorite too. I hear japchae is offered as a side dish on the weekends so I’ll have to come back and try it. My friend and I both got the #51 soft tofu soup with beef. It didn’t look boiling hot when served, but I definitely burned my tongue at the first sip. Be careful! Easily finished the contents because hot soup at 10:30 pm for a hungry soul is very comforting. But aside from that, there honestly wasn’t that much tofu and beef in the soup. Oh and, find the egg before it gets thoroughly cooked! Definitely recommend the brown rice over white rice. The beans add more texture than any flavor at all so give the healthier option a shot. Spoonful of tofu soup + rice is the best. Two of my other friends shared a 2-serving Gool-Bossam because they’ve been watching too many Korean dramas. The menu description says oysters wrapped in cabbage bundle… I assure you they offer much more than that– take a look at the photo! Generous portion, but I personally did not enjoy any part of this dish. The red mound is raw oysters mixed in chili paste sauce with onions and vegetables. The oysters did not taste fresh off the shell. I am almost certain they are not. The two rows of meat are lean/fatty pork, tasteless. I did not fancy the sauce either… Like salty, bitter fish sauce. This must be a very traditional Korean dish. Order at your own risk! I’ll be back to try other menu items such as seafood pancake, fried chicken, and bibimbap.

Bait and switch. However what was really disappointing was that the manager/owner did not honor the Unilocal check in coupon. According to the Unilocal coupon, if you order any lunch special under $ 8 you will get 50% off, all other lunch specials are buy 1 get the 2nd one half off and buy 3 get the 3rd one free. When we asked how the Unilocal check in coupon worked to confirm our understanding we were told buy one get the 2nd one half off, end of story. No 50% off, no get the 3rd one free, just buy one get the 2nd half off. In addition, we got the feeling that because we were getting a discount that the manager/owner was being cheap. For instance our server asked if we wanted brown or white rice, we opted for brown rice, no doubt brown rice costs the restaurant more than white, but at roughly 11 am they were magically out if brown rice? Next, the banchan, the manager tried to wiggle out of giving us the meager portion of dried anchovies, asking if we wanted them. Huh really? Dried anchovies are not cheap, but really?! What about the cheap dried thin fish cake? How about asking us if we didn’t want that? Then we were charge for an extra bowl of rice, and when we got to the register to be rung up the manager hovered over and then said oh your total isn’t right. It was $ 3 short, tax was somehow left off, really?! She already did not honor the 3rd lunch free, charged for our teas and the extra rice, didn’t provide the brown rice and tried to take our anchovies away! Cheap, cheap, cheap and was not smart enough to hide her cheap dishonorable behaviour. She just didn’t have her act together and clumsily fumbled around with us. This is clearly bait and switch. Very very very disappointed. Felt really bad for our server who clearly was in an awkward position the manager/owner was his mother. Our outrage was mix with pity for the young man. The food was average korean«restaurant» food nothing special. Needless to say we won’t be back.

This restaurant has a very unique atmosphere to it and I enjoyed how spacious it was. The sever greeted us as we walked in and was very friendly. The ban chan(side dishes) were wonderful. The kimchi was delicious and I just couldn’t have enough(they even sell their kimchi by the jug). Some of my favorites: the sweet galled potatoes, fish cake, tofu spinach, anchovies, and sausage links(a western twist!). I ordered an Al Jigae(fish eggs soup). It came out hot and delicious. Only problem is, I ordered it without onions/any types of onions and tried to emphasized it when ordering to make sure the server doesn’t get it wrong. She acknowledged, repeated, and wrote it down, but then the soup came out with all sorts of onions. I sat there taking it all out before I can start eating. The pork bulgogi came out sizzling and delicious. However, the portion was very small for the price compared to other Korean restaurants that I’ve been to. Our server was friendly but was a little lost. It started out with getting our order wrong. She cleaned empty tables before getting us our drinks. The check never came, we had to head to the cashier for the check and to pay, as well. Waters weren’t refilled at all, so I had to drink my boyfriend’s water. Overall, the food was great. There were minor mistakes, but a restaurant with good food is hard to pass up. I just hope for a better experience next time.

This was my second time eating at Mo Du Rang and I left just as impressed as I did the first time. We came in on a Wednesday around 6 and it was surprisingly empty since that’s typically dinner time. After being seated, we only waited about 5 mins before our plates of sides were brought to us. As always, the sides were delicious and fresh. For dinner we ordered the Bulgogi and Japchae. Beef Bulgogi is my favorite Korean dish and Mo Du Rang’s Bulgogi is the best I’ve had in Sacramento. The beef is sliced and grilled perfectly and is packed with flavor. The Japchae is not on the menu but they will make it for you, if you decide to order. The noodles were perfect and it paired nicely with the Bulgogi. The service once again was top notch. Even though the restaurant was quite empty for the first 30 minutes we were here, we still received excellent customer service and only waited about 10 minutes for our dinner to come out. Our waitress who I’m assuming is the owner, went above and beyond to make sure that we were well taken care of. All in all we had dinner for 35 bucks. Our meal was excellent and we had enough for leftovers. It’s a bit of a drive to eat here but the trip has been worth it so far.

I came here this past Sunday for dinner with my bestie. We were starving and really surprised by how small this place was. There aren’t many tables, but they have big tables in that back that you share with other parties. It had a very homey feeling. We were seated in about 20 – 30 minutes and ordered immediately because we were looking at the menu while we waited. I had tofu bibimbap and she had beef bibimbap and we shared some chicken and beef bulgogi. Bibimbap: Both of our orders were very similar with the exception of the meat/tofu. I opted for no egg on mine though. There was a lot more rice than we had expected, and that kind of overpowered everything because the ratio of vegetables to rice were kinda off. It still tasted pretty good though, especially with their red sauce. Bulgogi: It came out sizzling hot and very juicy! But i think because it’s served on a hot plate, the meat got dried out very fast. It became overcooked and a bit tough. The flavor was just okay too. We left satisfied enough, but I’d never come back for the KBBQ options again. The food was okay, but the service is kind of bad. We waited forever for our food and our check. My bestie never got her water refilled. We eventually just got up and paid at the cash register.
