Nothing like a genuine Cornish pasty for a delicious comfort food meal. I had a chicken version filled with chunks of chicken breast, veggies and potatoes. I brought it home and reheated it the next day in a convection oven. Perfection, the crust was nicely crisp and just right, very much like a handheld pot pie minus the gravy. Worth a visit.

I’ve only had their Bavarian pasty, but it was very tasty. My fella is absolutely addicted to them, though. I’ve been curious to try the Mexican and chili verde, but they only sell them once a week. The shop is small, but luckily they sell the pasties to take-and-bake.

After years of driving by I finally stopped in to see what a meat pie was. It is just as it sounds. meat in a fluffy pie pastry wrapped and backed. Kind of calzone style and taste like a pot pie. he concept is cool but they fel just short of tasting great. 1 was chicken with potatoes, carrots peas but on the dryer side but tasted good. I could see where it was going The other was the Cornish and lean meat. The meat was the size of stew and was very tough and dry. With a little more stewing time it could have been so much better. The young lady at the counter was very pleasant and gave good customer service but the food for me was on the dry side. Being this was my first time trying this maybe this is what it is supposed to be? I will be back to try one of the other flavors. The Chili Verde sound great! I will give one more try to give a better rating. One more thing. They really need to put them in a larger boat/paper tray and it would be so much easier to eat!

We grabbed a few pasties for lunch as we passed through Sacramento. They looked nice and big, but it turned out to be mostly crust. And while we were happy that the crust wasn’t soggy at all, there just wasn’t enough filling to qualify it. Filling was also underwhelming, the chili verde one sounded the best, but sadly they only have them 1 day a week. I have family in the area, could eventually see finding myself grabbing lunch from here again.

This is just for The Cornish pasty. Big chunks of beef and potatoes, small bits of onions. You can add your own sauce if you like, I’d imagine it would go well with some hot sauce! Fair price!

Pasty Shack is the bee’s knees. They are really good baked at home as well — I would say they taste as good. I keep my freezer stocked.

After hearing about pasties from my boyfriend, who had them growing up in the Midwest, I was excited to see the Pasty Shack when driving through town. We called ahead, and were greeted with fantastic customer service. This excellent customer service continued as we picked up our food, as the 2 gentlemen helping me were super friendly and informative. When we got home, we were excited to finally try the pasties, and were not disappointed! The crust was buttery and flaky, and the fillings were great. We are looking forward to heading back again soon for more!

I really liked this place. The owner was super nice and the food was really good. I had walked by it for years and finally gave it a try. Wish I had gone in years ago.

My significant other is first-generation American, with all previous members of his family having been born in Scotland. He introduced me to pasties in his hometown in Southern California, and I fell in love. Needless to say, I was thrilled to find an entire shop devoted to one of the most comforting dishes out there– the pasty. Almost as swift as my excitement, was my utter disappointment. Everything was just so DRY, and woefully lacking flavor. It was like the owners are trying to recreate the stereotype about British food instead of the actual taste. I wouldn’t waste my time or money.

I’ve lived in the area for forty plus year. Gone by this little gem of a shack many times. So today I braved it and walked in to order a chicken pasty. OMG!!! the first bite is decadence within the delicious buttery crust. Within the next few bites I found myself in scrumptious heaven as I chew on the vegetables and meat within. I will returned for many more items on the menu. If you looking for a Spring Times or Summer Time picnic items these hit the spot. So if I was to advise you to brave the stop and go in I would say, DOIT! You will be amazed.”

3 visits to Sacramento with intent to try Pasty Shack I finally made it last month and what I was hoping to be the discovery of a legit Pasty in California turned out to be a bit of a let down. Since I moved from England 4 and a Half years ago it has been my mission to find 1. An amazing Pasty 2. Equally as amazing Fish & Chips. Back to the hunt, I guess. The shop and menu are both small I thought that with a small menu they would have everything perfected but I would have to agree with other reviewers that the Beef in the Cornish was incredibly dry( ). The Pastry was good, not the greatest and it didn’t look much like a traditional Pasty yet it did have that flaky texture. I also ordered the Chicken Pasty which turned out to be both mine and my Husbands favorite of the two. It didn’t have a great deal of Chicken, instead lot’s of Vegetables with a good flavor( ). Prices are reasonable for the size, the owners just need to work on getting better quality Beef and not cooking it to the point of it almost being Jerky.

The hubby and I decided to drive down and try the Pasty Shack. He had the Cornish pasty and I had the Bavarian. They were both very good. People have talked about pastys being dry. The Bavarian was definitely more moist than the Cornish, but they were both very good. I wouldn’t want any gravy on mine. The pastry was tender yet held together well for hubby to pick his up and eat it. The portions were ample as we considered this dinner. I couldn’t finish mine. They sell cold ones. I brought one home to freeze and eat later. They give instructions on how to bake.

WHAT? YOU’VENEVERHAD A CORNISHPASTY? Good thing this place is in the heart of East Sac. The pasties are made ahead of time, but they still taste pretty fresh and yummy. The owner is fun to chat with, a very personable guy. This is another one of those places in Sacramento that have that intimate neighborhood feel. Affordable price and yummy. =)

Great cornish pasty. Tasty and moist. Beats the pants off of fox and goose’s dry piece of crap. WIll go back Friday for the tamale or mexican. It’s definately a shack, but don’t let that deter you! Canned drinks only but the root beer was good.

The food was excellent! Since moving to NorCal 10 years ago, I’ve been on the hunt for a place that serves pasty, and one that doesn’t need to be covered in gravy. I have finally found it! This is a cute, small shop and the day I went, the gentleman who served us was very kind. Me and my friend both got the regular beef pasty and it was a perfect meal. The crust was flaky and the insides were tender and moist. Not once did I wish I had HP sauce or gravy to pour over it. And unlike other pasty’s I’ve had, the crust held together. The inside had huge chunks of beef and potatoes. The filling is definitely home made. They had a dessert pasty that day — apple turnover. It was fairly good. The filling tasted alright and the crust definitely was homemade, but there was a faint canned filling taste. I’m thinking the inside of the turnover was canned apple pie filling. But still, it was pretty good. All in all, good service, excellent food and I’m definitely coming back. Finally, my long search for a pasty place is over!

Food was average, maybe a little below due to the fact that the pasties were dry, and admittedly sitting in a hot box waiting for customers to arrive. I drop it down to two stars due to a pet peeve of mine: no fountain drinks. Dollar for a can of soda or a bottle of water. That isn’t totally unreasonable, but I tend to be quite thirsty and feeling like I need to ration out my drink ruins a meal for me.

What could be easier to eat on the fun than a Cornish pasty? Tiny Pasty Shack offers several varieties of these nourishing savory turnovers. Try the Bavarian, filled with ground beed, chopped cabbage, bell peppers, and onions, or the frisky Chile Verde(available Fridays only). There’s also a veggie version!

Two stars for the filling(I’m pretty sure it comes from a can). Three stars for the crust. FIVESTARSFORTHESERVICE!!! The owner is so very sweet. It’s not expensive. Go say hi to him.

3⁄5 stars?! As someone from the South West of England I have to set people straight about this place. I’ve lived in the US for over two years having recently moved to Sacramento from Chicago. In all my time here I haven’t experienced anything better than Pasty Shack’s Cornish pasty. I love this place and as a ‘pasty country’ native I give it 5⁄5. 5⁄5 for awesome comfort food! 5⁄5 for showing that British food is brilliant! I love your menu, if I had any tips/dreams it would be that you branched out into Sausage Rolls and maybe even Breakfast Pasties! Cheers.

These pasties are so delicious! Tonight was my first time here in years and I wasn’t disappointed. Just imagine a hearty serving of meat and potatoes baked in all their juicy goodness, then add a rockin’ thick crust and bam! You’ll be back. Honestly, my first visit here was a little disappointing, but it was because I expected pasties to taste like a Swanson’s chicken pot pie, which I’m not afraid to admit that I love. Anyway, they taste nothing like that. These are bland in comparison, because they don’t contain all the crappy additives and through-the-roof sodium like pot pies. Their natural flavors and heartiness are what I appreciate most. Once I accepted them for what they are rather than focus on what they’re not, I fell in love(much like any great relationship!). I didn’t give a fifth star, because I didn’t pick them up myself(hubby did), so I can’t comment on their service.

The location next to the 2-Me has a certain symbiotic flavor to it … one can almost visualize patrons stumbling back and forth between the two for hours. Fridays are my favorite — chile verde — but the crust is always delicate and the fillings good(some days delicious). Not much more to say. If you haven’t tried one, give it a go.

I’m a fan of continuity. That being said, the irony of it is that I seem to follow this secure path of being the serial monogamist. I take the blame here too, however. Despite the numerous signs and red flags, I’m gone in blindly and naysay. 50% of the blame game, I have no problems taking responsibility: I cut my wrists with strict aptness. However, it does seem that a rift is evident in my choices between food and men, where the aforementioned leans heavily in my favor. I have expressed interest in trying this place out on more than numerous occasions, just that a pasty is not an everyday choice for means of consumption. Why? Because it is a stout meal, one pie for himself. Today, however, after my supposed meal of a cup of coffee and a handful of crackers + a few slices of Brie(what can one surmise… stress seems to work wonders fittingly than that of the forced dietary supplements) our stop here was well warranted. There is an added interesting element to consuming food when it comes accompanied with history. The owner served us and gave a little background since I inquired about the shop. Been at this location for 25 years and prior to that, quite the longstanding Sacramento establishment. He mentioned that his brother owned the bar next door. The sign outside as well as the etching on the window were all originals. The origins of the pasty were of British inception and their heartiness made even more so by alleviating the hunger of the miners who could not come up to the surface for their meal breaks. I elected for the Chicken Pasty and it was a huge stuffed wedge that resembled a baked turnover. Don’t expect a buttery frou frou French style crust… this is a standard simple crust for savory pies. Crimped perfectly so along the edges, brimming with chopped potatoes, carrots, and pieces of chicken, then baked. I could only consume half of it, but during our conversation, found myself picking away at piece of the crust, here and there. Don’t expect gravy. Don’t expect sauce. This is exactly how I remembered the pasty from my British friends: filling, not elaborate, and to the point. I’ll be back to try their Mexican infused specials that are only offered on Thursday and Fridays. And compliments to the owner for being so welcoming. That little unassuming touch of sociability makes the visit so much more worthwhile.
