Worst customer service EVVVVVER! I ordered the Choco Mocha cake round cake and requested to have«Happy Birthday» put on there. I was told that they don’t do that because it wouldn’t fit and the cake is too small. Um, WRONG! I took that baby home and guess what I was able to put on there? Yes– Happy Birthday! The employees are so damn lazy– they didn’t even try to get the personalized message there! Mga tamad(lazy in Tagalog) indeed!

You don’t order cakes here, they are already made and shipped from Southern California. Bought the mango supreme and ube overload for my daughters birthday. Very disappointed with the cake, very dry and they changed the recipe of the cakes! No more macapuno in the ube cake and the mango cake used to be covered in a light whipped frosting with chunks of mango. The new version has it as a filling with a mango glaze/jelly on top… if it wasn’t so dry, I guess the changes wouldn’t have bothered me. Back to Raley’s for birthday cakes.

Ah, Red Ribbon… been coming here since high school when this former Target complex got taken over by Seafood City! Located inside the Seafood City complex(unlike Valerios and Starbread), they have pre-packaged baked goods, breads and pastries such as ensaimada(brioche), mamon(spongecake), banana loaf, taisan, puto, polvoron, brownies, mango bars and food for the gods. Do please pay attention to the stickers on the individual packages though, sometimes they are close to expiration — a few times I’ve gotten a taisan(spongecake/angelfood-like consistency) or a banana bar that started to get moldy within days! They also have cakes(round, rolls, square, or by design/dedication). Cake flavors range from ube, pandan macapuno, coffee crunch, chocolate mousse, mango white chiffon, black forest, mocha crumble, etc. One specialty is the brazo de mercedes, which is sort of like lemon meringue in taste. For savory items they have chicken or beef empanadas, and meals such as dinuguan(pork blood stew a.k.a. «chocolate meat»), arroz caldo, or my ultimate favorite, pancit palabok. Actually, what I tend to get is the Sweet Meal Deal #2, the petite palabok, chicken or beef empanada, choice of cake slice, and a softdrink for $ 7.49. They also have halo-halo, although I like Chowking’s halo-halo better. My favorite cake flavor is usually the mango chiffon(either as a roll or a round cake), and definitely get the beef empanada over the chicken. I’m sure I could finish a whole regular sized order of palabok, it’s so yummy! But if I order the«petite» size I’ll maintain my petite figure, right?

Most Filipinos know what Red Ribbon bakeshop is all about. It’s where you get mostly Filipino pastries and desserts. This one is located inside the Seafood City grocery store in Sacramento. I’m trying to stay away from too much sweets, so I muster enough strength to just walk right past it and go straight to the more protein-oriented delicacies in the cafeteria, located inside the store as well. I almost made it unscathed. Almost. Here’s the thing. It was hot that day. We just spent over an hour at Ikea, and needed some refreshments. Smoothie sounded good. As it happens, Filipinos have their version of a smoothie. It’s called halo-halo(literal translation: mix-mix). Basically, it’s shaved ice, with a bunch of mix-ins ~ fruits, sweet beans, jello, flan, ice cream, etc, etc. If done right, this ‘smoothie’ can be the tastiest, most refreshing, and most indulgent dessert one can ever have. For me, personally, it transports me back home, to the Philippines, where I frequently enjoyed this treat under the hot tropical sun. I have to say, Red Ribbon halo-halo hit THE spot. It’s filled with all the right ingredients, and just with the right amount of it. It’s easy to mess this dessert up. There are countless versions of it, but Red Ribbon did it right. So right, it’s dang near perfect, I finished it til the last drop. Guilt-free.

This is one of my favorite bakeries that i never got to write about. Well today i wasn’t craving some ube cake, til a fellow Unilocaler checked in and inspire me to go since i am in the area. well this bakery shop is located inside the super market. as i am approaching the entrance i saw the security guard doing his job, checking receipts on random customers walking out with full loads of groceries. guess there are many people who steals from this supermarket. anyways when i walked into the bakery shop i eye the word ube. now what is ube, its purple yam flavor, its deep violet but tastes amazing! ok so i saw ube bread, ube cake, ube rolls with cream in it, also ube halo halo drink! I’m like in ube heaven when i was in there. i had to choose something quick or else i will walk out of there with ube everything. i ordered the slice of ube cake and i grabbed one ube sponge cake. then i got ranged up. then the cashier went and look for the cake slice of ube and they were sold out, so i did the ugh frown face. then she found ube rolled cake which had cream in it, which was also same but different presentation and size of it. so i did take the ube cake roll, with a frown face still. the reason why is because i wanted the slice of cake for a better presentation and for my food blog picture. next when i went home i was so excited to try the ube sponge cake. now the sponge cake had all the ingredients label and how much sugar and calories. when i saw the label i was like oh boy. its 240 calories but i guess its worth it. it was definitely moist, and very fluff and spongy too haha. it tasted good too and was sweet. well now i can compared the regular egg custard sponge cake, i usually get from the asian supermarket and compare the sweetness and this was 2x sweeter. overall i had a good experience and yes i love their mango cakes! its awesome and tastes amazing if your a mango fan too. they do have real mango inside and tastes like mango too. the cakes were like 22 bucks if i remember correctly. anyways will be back soon for some more ube. thanks for reading and have a good day.

Definitely the best place to be to grab your fresh bakery! I dont know how much better can that be… They baked their goods with pride and sell them at an affordable cost. From cakes, to desserts, to «filipino muffins», and so much more that I can’t even pronounce their names… Coming into the bakeshop just takes my breath away. The aroma, the flour, just the richest ingredients you can smell makes you want to question yourself, «What is that smell Im smelling? Can I have that? I want to eat it.» Simply all that, might as well just ask the associate(s) available what that aroma is, and they’ll be so glad to help you feel complete and be hungry no more. Come! Come! Come! And you sure will be glad you did stop by and consume their loaf of bread. FYI, some of them have treats inside the bread, and what I meant by treat, more like Pork, Chicken, Beef, Adobo, and even dessert«Ube» also known as the purple yam. Its so good. You have to try that… Tell them, and they’ll know what you’re talking about. I forgot the name of the actual baked good. One last thing, their Butter Mamon, is so moist! it isn’t that dry, but quite flavorable with intense Yumminess! And customer service is so-and-so! Sometimes you have the nice ones, and sometimes you get the uptight ones who was the high school mentality that they’re all that! Ugh…

I bought an ube roll for my work party and everyone loved it. Also, the workers were kind enough to let me reserve a roll, and it’s a good thing I did, otherwise I would’ve had nothing to show for my party! I’d definitely come here again for some more tasty ube treats :)

I recently tried their butter bread, banana bread, chocolate bread, and beef empanada. I didn’t like the bread… they were way too sweet and the texture was nothing special. The beef empanada was ok, but I probably won’t come back here.

I went to this bakery because I’ve heard many great things about it & their cakes. So I ordered 2 cakes for my 2 coworkers going away party yesterday. Upon my arrival the young guy greeted me & was very friendly, asked if he could help me. I ordered the popular mango cake & also the chocolate mousse cake. Everything looked so yummy in there so I bought an additional cake a mocha roll. Just because my supervisor brought one along time ago to share & it was so yummy. The lady there finished helping me & was very sweet & made sure that the young guy checked my entire order before I left. Overall it was a very pleasant experience & the cakes were a big hit at work everyone loved them! I’d definitely go back for some more yummy cakes!

I’ve copied the same review for both Valerio’s and Red Ribbon for 2 rounds of Delicious Battles. There’s already enough reviews focusing on other aspects of both the Bakeries, so why not a different take? The Battle of the Ensaymeda and Empanada. Round 1 are Ensaymedas. On the Left Corner is Valerio’s with Sugar on top. On the Right corner is Red Ribbon with Cheese on top. Both do not have the exact configurations available, so this was the closest match at this time. Red Ribbon tasted cheesy and cake like. The bread was fluffier. Valerio’s was sweeter and more like a pastry. The winner… is a draw. I liked the fluffiness of Red Ribbon but liked the topping of Valerio’s. So it’s really a matter of preference. Round 2 we have the Battle of the Empanada. Again, on the Left we have Valerio’s and on the Right we have Red Ribbon. Valerio’s was moist in the inside and crisp on the outside. The chicken tasted sweeter and BBQ like with some carrots. The chicken could work well with a slider. Red Ribbon was flakier and lighter. The chicken tasted garlicky yet hardy with a mix of potato. The winner? Again a draw. It’s down to preference. If this was a beauty contest, Valerio’s would win for Empanadas and Red Ribbon would win for Ensaymeda. Either way, i was thoroughly Content. Thanks for tuning in!

Their bakery section is outstanding. But I don’t recommend their meals. I tried their palabok and it tasted just like the instant palabok that you heat up in the microwave. Definitely not authentic and serving is small too. So, if it’s cake or pastries you need, then this place is the place to get them. But if you are hungry, eat somewhere else.

I’ve been here several times: a few times to browse & a few to purchase Mango cakes. My first purchase was a mango cake for a birthday solely based off the advice of fellow Unilocalers(without even sampling a slice myself). Thankfully, the recipient & I thought it was a great choice – thank you fellow Unilocalers! It was also a plus that there was a sale on these cakes at the time for $ 23(from $ 29?). The cake was not what I envisioned it to be. It wasn’t bad, but by the way Unilocalers described it, I envisioned it to be a bit like Asian sponge cake with a super strong taste of mangos & a lot big mango chunks & slices when you cut it open – the ultimate mango cake!(I’m a fanatic of mangoes). This was not the case, which is okay – since it was still great.(This ultimate mango cake I conjured up in my mind probably does not exist). The mango cake is light, fluffy & slightly sweet as fellow Unilocalers have described. Not as moist as Asian sponge cake, but not dry either. The cake batter probably consists of mango purée, so the cake itself, as well as the the frosting had shards of mango bits. The mango flavor(& sweetness) of the cake was pretty light, but at least you know they didn’t add any unnecessary strong artificial mango flavoring(syrup) to it. Definitely a delightful & satisfying treat! What brought down my rating for this place was my last visit here. I went to buy a mango cake slice. I was a bit worried that they may have sold out since a few of their cakes were not in the display case, but luckily there were still 4 slices of mango cake in the display. When I approach the counter to order, I asked for a mango cake slice. The girl said they don’t have mango cake. I thought she misheard, so I repeated while pointing to the slices in the display. She repeated that they don’t have anymore mango cake. I asked if the slices were for display & she iterated that they don’t have anymore mango. I was disappointed & asked if they even had a mango roll. She said yes, they have mango cakes. To avoid anymore confusion & time spent trying to figure out what she meant, I just bought the mango roll & left. I’ll assume that some of the display case cakes are to never be sold. If that were the case, that is quite misleading – to say you don’t have anymore when there are 4 slices clearly right in front of you.(Plus they don’t look like fake display cakes that have been sitting there forever. Unless they are. then they’ve done a great job making them look realistically edible). If that were the case, they should probably put a sign in the display case that they’re solely for display &/or a «sold out» sign in front of what they do no have. Nevertheless, I would still come back here for mango cake when it comes time to buy another one. Perhaps I can try to reserve a slice of mango cake ahead of time(if that’s possible). I may even venture into trying their ube cake or other cakes as well. Assuming I don’t get fooled by the display case again. Overall 3.5 stars. [Note: I’ll admit I was a bit nervous purchasing the mango roll based on some reviews about the mango rolls(exclusively?) tasting a bit«off.» I did check the expiration date(on the green sticker) on the box before I left the shop in case I may have been given a «just about to expire» piece. Of course, it can still taste«off» even before the expiration date according to those reviews. Luckily, the roll I bought was good].

This place is really good. The mango cake is the best since they no longer have the choco moco cake. They no longer carry the small size cake which is a bummer. For birthdays and events, I usually order the mango cake… it taste sweet and delicious. Great place and service is great as well.

Came here to order the halo-halo on a very hot day and it was worth it. Much needed on a day where it’s 90+ degrees. The halo-halo has the perfect ratio of cruched ice and dessert condiments. I especially liked the ube and condensed milk. My favorite place for halo-halo when I am in the area.

This review is simply a reminder for myself that I really love their SANSRIVAL! I think for the smaller order its about $ 15. I haven’t had it for years, and my mom brought some home yesterday. It reminded me of when my grandma used to order it for us when I lived in the Philippines.

Where to start where to start, my grandmother was graving a mango roll cake and was craving for one for quite some time. So finally my mother and sister decided to go to red ribbon and get her the roll cake she wanted. When they got home my grandma took a bite and immediately said it didn’t taste right. My sister tries the cake and clearly there was something off with the cake almost like its spoiled. They take the cake back to this place to try to return or exchange it. So now not only was the cake bad but it was followed by their terrible customer service, they argued with them about how the cake is fine and no one has ever complained about their cakes ever.(well guess what a friend of mine bought a cake from them and it was expired yikes) They basically made no attempt to fix the issue or even her out my mother and sister, they didn’t want the money back they just wanted to exchange the cake for a better one that wasn’t spoiled. I used to really love red ribbon but this is unacceptable customer service and now I’m afraid to get anything from them after the expired purchase my friend had no than you I’ll try and find a Filipino bakery elsewhere. I believe they owe their customers a big apology for their ill treatment and for not handling their food with the same standards that they used to.
