UYE – Joe The Wizard K’s 60th Birthday Bash

I had such a great time at the hideaway bar and Grill celebrating hanging with a bunch of very cool Unilocal peeps in celebration of Joe K’s birthday. Thank you for organizing this event Joe. Your and Ida are such an awesome & Unilocaltastic friends. I respect both of you with all of my heart and appreciate your Unilocalish ways. Happy birthday hmHoe k and salud to another year of happiness, good health, and all things Unilocal!Bien compleanos mi amigo!

When I awoke the morning of Joe K’s birthday, I had feelings of both excitement and trepidation as last minute thoughts arose in my mind. I had finished a long work week and was now not prepared for the upcoming party. I wondered if anyone would show up or if the Hideaway would be a good place for a gathering. Joe forgot to confirm early with the establishment about his party and when he finally did on that day, they didn’t seem to be aware or even enthused about it.
Now I’m stressed, Joe is quiet, and we find out that the Hideaway will not be serving food after 3:00 pm even though it was discussed in advance with the manager that the kitchen would stay open an hour longer to accommodate any of our guests that wanted to order food who might arrive later. I realized I needed to make some executive decisions because I could tell the birthday boy was starting to give up. We needed to go to J&J bakery for one of their delicious fruit basket cakes and also stop at the Dollar Tree for cake serving supplies. Both were on our way to the dive bar destination. When we finally arrived at the Hideaway, I prayed that at least a few of our Unilocal friends would be there to meet us. My prayers were answered as the smiling faces of Kenneth & Karen K, John H, William L, David O, Ronnie S and Michelangelo S gave us a warm and uplifting greeting!
Unexpectedly, there was a painting class in progress which took up most of the bar area tables. During the class, we gathered at one corner of the bar while more friends entered for Joe’s party: Jackie F and Randy G, Lucy M and Todd N, Michael H, Kailyn T, Jenny P, and Joe’s daughter Sasha C. Some of us were able to order food before the 3:00 deadline. Finally, the art class ended, tables were cleaned up, and our ever growing party of Unilocalers moved out onto the floor area. Happily, more old friends showed up later such as our previous CM Olivia L, along with Marina C and Chris C!
Everyone seemed to be having a good time as we drank, socialized, ate cake and took fun photos of this wonderful birthday party in which our Unilocal friends greatly contributed to! Without all of them, Joe’s 60^th birthday would have just been another day of the week that came and went. Thank you guys for making his milestone birthday a true age to be appreciated!

The group of wannabe artists was not a problem.
The kitchen closing at 3pm was not a problem.
We dealt with it, like good Unilocalers, and had a great time, great conversation, a couple drinks, ordering food, and, yes, there was singing and CAKE! If the Wizard was feeling low, it didn’t show. I’m honored to have been there and the thanks go to Joe and Ida for putting this milestone celebration together.
And, I was able to experience a new venue!

On a fine Sunday afternoon (11/​29/​2015,) My fellow Unilocalers and I were heading to Hideaway Bar & Grill to celebrate the 60 years of Joe K aka «The Wizard» mastermind! This party in my opinion is a good, huge success! In the middle of the cool afternoon, Karen & Kenneth K, John H, Michael H, Ronny S and I have arrived early before Joe K plus his daughter and Ida H stepped in minutes later to celebrate his triumph welcome. We were in awed to gather this event. Additionally, there’s more Unilocalers coming by from Michelangelo S, former Unilocal CM of Sacramento: Olivia plus her buddy, David O, Jenny P, Jackie F, Randy G, Lucy M, Todd N, Chris C, and Kailyn also crashed the party to have a rock n’ roll experience for Joe K.
In this event, we did started to ordered some food before Hideaway’s kitchen closes before 3 pm. Their food tasted remarkably good as I take my first bite for my order of their breakfast sandwich. Simply delicious.
Then, we did have a birthday cake celebration for Joe K by singing «Happy Birthday.» It’s the finest moment that he’s defiantly the oldest, and the coolest Unilocaler every made after he becomes an Elite several years ago. BTW, the cake is also very tasty to eat too!
Finally, we did make the craziest conversation for Unilocalers who participated for this event by taking random things about their past Unilocal lives after the ladies’ PaintNight event concluded in the middle of the afternoon. It’s such a great way to make a fun conversation to meet my fellow Unilocalers including Joe K too.
In the end, Joe K’s UYE Birthday Bash is the most whirlwind UYE event that I’ve ever participated! Thank you Joe K for making this birthday party at Hideaway a success, and I’m wishing that the age of 60 will never gets old in you! Defiantly «the Wizard» moment in our lives!

What kind of Wizard forgets to give the owner of the Hideaway a second call to make sure the kitchen is going to stay open another hour? What kind of Wizard drags people into a venue that is crowded with patrons attending a weekly painting class forcing the people he invited to have to crowd into one end of the bar like sardines?
What an unthoughtful, unorganized, bumbling smuck of a Wizard! What kind of Wizard promises to bring a cake but does not get around to baking it or making sure he has forks, plates, and napkins? This Wizard should probably be called out by the Grand Order of Proper Wizard Conduct.
I woke up in a deep depression on my birthday. It put me in kind of a mindless stupor. I called the Hideaway to make sure that they were going to hold the kitchen open for us only to find out that no one there knew anything about my party. I moped around the house until an hour before the event was suppose to start.
Ida insisted that we leave early so we would have time to stop at the Dollar Tree for utensils and pick up a cake from J & J Bakery. Everything worked out perfect. We were able to pick up the utensils and cake and still make it to the Hideaway exactly on time.
I was surprised to see a lot of my friends were already there when we walked in. Everyone was so extremely nice and cheery and it did not take long for my depression to clear. Most people arrived early enough to take advantage of the Hideaways wonderful kitchen before it closed and all of the «wannabe Picassos» left before long leaving us with plenty of space to sprawl in even if the kitchen was no longer open.
I had a wonderful time visiting with my friends in the mellow late Sunday afternoon, kickback environment of the Hideaway. I really want to thank, hmmmmm! Let me see, there was, Karen K, Kenneth K, John H, William L, Michaelangelo S, David O, Jackie F and her wonderful husband, Lucy M, Ronnie S, Michael H, my daughter Sash C, and Kailyn T. I hope I remembered everyone and thanks again for being there to help me celebrate my 60^th.
Also, a great big thanks to David O. for getting Chris C, our wonderful and extremely fun past community manager Olivia O, and Marina to show up at the last minute. I really have missed those great old friends and it was beyond wonderful to see them again.
Thanks everyone, I had a wonderful birthday and it was all because of you. I am not sure whether to give this event three stars because of me or five stars because of you.

The WIZARD = A Magical Unilocaling Force! And what a SH*TLOAD of Birthday FUN! And *props* to Unilocal’s iconic «WIZARD» for hosting a great birthday shindog @ The Hideaway!
THE SETUP
And for my out-​of-​town Unilocalies, I should start off by saying that the «Wizard» is none other than Joe K., «K» standing for «Kantankerous Olé Koot!» That’s our Joe!
Joe has been Unilocaling in Sacramento longer than most, including myself. And with his lovely sidekick Ida H. (the REAL reason we all show up since we want to say «howdy» to her, but we’ll put that aside for now), they are always one of the most awesome FIRST COUPLEs of Unilocal at any event they show up at.
BIRTHDAY MADNESS
So it’s hard to believe that Joe is turning 60, cause… he doesn’t look a day older than 58! ;)
We all gathered at a wonderful Rockabilly Bar knows as «The Hideaway» near the Broadway strip of Sacramento and had a great time drinking, munching, bally-​hooing, and getting to meet youngin Unilocalers who actually showed up! That’s right — we had Unilocalers in their f*ckin 20s show up to this geriatric UYE! WOW! (Though I think the kids in their 20s & 30s were a bit surprised at the complimentary apple sauced).
So what an awesome testament to a man almost FIVE times…(*turns head towards Sasha* «What’s that? My math? …oh…») Almost TWO times older than most people there! WOOT!
THE LOWDOWN
A great way to celebrate a great guy’s pretty awesome birthday!

We all came together to this restaurant for one special person: Joe K! Why? Because he made that milestone birthday of age sixty. It’s one age that some people make it and some people don’t so that’s why it’s so important to celebrate it!
We ate our meal at the bar bc people were there doing their Paint nite (well it was early afternoon) so the only space left was at the bar. After three In the afternoon they were finished so we were able to convene back in the middle area at the tables.
We converse back and forth, sang happy birthday and enjoyed the pineapple cake Ida brought from J & J Bakery. We took pics while listening to the jukebox music! Some grand oldies in there!!!
This was definitely a fun, friendly and enjoyable event for a special wizard Unilocal guy named Joe K. Yay Joe you made it! Here’s to sixty more years!!! Salute!
