I work right across the street and come here sometimes for lunch to save some time. I love the fresh shrimp spring rolls the best. This place has a combo of Vietnamese and Chinese food and the owners are super, super nice! I have ordered egg rolls from them in the past for a couple holiday parties and they have never disappointed. I think in the past under other ownership, it earned the name of «Yucky Choice,» but I never felt they were«yucky» under these owners. I can’t comment on the prior owners because I just listened to people and avoided it. But when I brought the egg rolls to the parties, everyone asked where I got them from since they were so good! Haa ha! When I told them, they were surprised since they had heard the same rumors, but hadn’t actually tried them or at least had not gone in a very long time. So I say give them a try and judge for yourself. Myself, I am pleased when I go there with my food and, again, the owners are so nice too. That always helps!

Anyone giving this place a 5 star rating clearly had never had 5 star worthy food. This is not one of the best Chinese food places Sacramento has to offer, nor is it the worst. It’s overall 3 star rating is just. I’ve been here several times and the food flip flops from being good to blah. One suggestion I can give people from personal experience is the food is somewhat best during the lunch rush, don’t go after, you’ll just be setting yourself up for disappointment and tears. The food is old and they barely have anything left so they will just be scraping up old hard rice and dry chicken into your plate(or whatever you choose to get). I will say that the owners are very nice and personable. I’ve never been treated unfairly or rudely.

I visit here on a regular basis for lunch. I love the chicken and beef phở. The owners are very personable and greet me with a lot of enthusiasm. The teriyaki chicken is yummy too. I order take out and the food comes out fast and hot. I love my food piping hot.

Worst… Chinese…Food…EVER!!! NOSTARS if I could… Stay away from this place unless you are trying to Carb up with tiny bits of dime sized meat and hard under cooked rice. This was my first time here. I didn’t know what to order and the man behind the counter suggested the Special of the Day… Chicken Chow Fun with Beef Fried Rice and two Pot Stickers. I said, «okay» When I got back to my office and opened my styrofoam box, I immediately noticed the two pot stickers on top of the fried rice and chow fun. These pot stickers were fried and tasted okay. The fried rice looked really sad and dry. It tasted horribly plain with hardly any soy sauce. Just hard pieces of short grain(Chinese) rice with frozen peas, carrots and tiny pieces of beef. Tiny, as in the pieces were between nickel and quarter size. Simply Horrible. The Chow Fun was also sad and dry. It had enough«flavor by soy sauce», but the noodles were dry with wilted green onions and bean sprouts. I hardly noticed any chicken in there as the pieces were literally the size of a dime. I mean… really? Simply Horrible… I understand that State Workers go here out of convenience, but seriously… stop patronizing this place so something else could take its place.

A lot of the people leaving bad reviews of this place seem to be ordering food from the Chinese buffet, like orange chicken, beef and broccoli, etc… AVOIDIT! You’re much better off getting the chinese chicken salad, the pork and vermicelli salad, or grilled pork/steak/chicken and steamed veggies. Their grilled pork and grilled chicken are fresh, juicy, flavorful, and not greasy at all. I come here all the time for a quick lunch close to my office and I usually get the pork and vermicelli salad because the meat is SOGOOD. Their beef stew with noodles is also very good, and their phở is decent. I have yet to try their wonton soup but I have heard good things about that too. Basically their salads, soups, anything that’s not from the chinese buffet behind the counter is delicious!

Yummy Choice is my go to lunch spot on work days, and I always get the vermicelli noodle salad with grilled pork. It’s the best! They give you a LOT and it’s so fresh and scrumptious that I start daydreaming about it hours before they open. The vermicelli noodle salad contains vermicelli rice noodles, chopped romaine lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon, fried shallots, chopped peanuts, your choice of grilled chicken or pork(go with the pork), a fried spring roll, and a container of dressing to pour all over that holy mound of deliciousness. The owners are incredibly friendly and will sometimes start preparing my order before I even walk through the door if they see me walking towards the restaurant(I’m predictable that way). I’ve tried some of their other dishes, which are good, but the vermicelli noodle salad with pork is by far my favorite.

It’s not even 9:00 yet, and I’m thinking of Yummy Choice. #1– Orange chicken, sesame chicken, garlic chicken are all fried and then covered with whichever sauce. Mediocre at best. Fried rice and chow mein kinda«meh», too. Salmon is great, spring rolls pretty good, BUT– the won ton soup is great– cooked right in front of you, hearty and delicious. Haven’tried their phở yet, but I’m looking forward to it. Owners are incredibly pleasant. Postickers aren’t the fat gyoza type, but are a nice side with some chili sauce or hoisin. Just avoid the PandaExpess-esque Chinese food.

This place is a decent Chinese place that opens late. Mainly FOBS come here so the food is pretty good. The service is never great because at the Chinese place you can’t expect great service. They have a huge menu and is pretty much always open. Let’s just say this place gets the job done!

My view of Yummy Choice sure has improved the last couple years. I get the chicken phở a couple times each month, when I don’t get the sesame chicken and steamed veggies. The owners are a sweet older couple, eager to please and fast at their work. The food is good quality and value, and healthy if you stay away from the fried stuff. The shop is small, but has around six window seats, four or five tables outside, and several tables upstairs. Good deal for a good meal.

Really this should be more like 3.5 stars. If you haven’t been here before, it’s a walk up counter to order with 4 – 5 barstools on a small counter opposite the food area. There are a few tables outside(where I usually sit) and extra seating upstairs, I’ve never gone up there though. The menu is on the small side but it’s a good milk and there are daily lunch specials. It’s a decent value, the food I’ve gotten here has always been good and flavorful. The owner is a warm, friendly Vietnamese fellow, occasionally hard to understand through the accent but always happy to see you. Only open for lunch, definitely worth stopping by.

No, no, no, not yummy by any stretch. My husband’s sweet and sour chicken was cold, and the«chow mein» appears to be old spaghetti noodles. The prices are way too high for the low quality.

I could’ve made this at home and I’m not much of a chef. The noodles taste like the flavored cup of noodles you buy in the store. Hardly no veggies in the chow mien at all. Chicken is too fatty for me. Nice ppl and you do get a lot for the price, but I probably won’t go back. Forgot to mention I asked if they had vegetable spring rolls and the guy looked at me crazy. He asked me how to make them too. I just told him to forget it.

I totally get why this place has earned the nickname, «Yucky Choice». I really did not want to eat the lunch I made the night before. I mean. I can only eat so much baked chicken breast a week. I wanted something fried! So I walked down to Yucky Choice to give it a fair and honest shot despite my coworker’s opinions. I ordered the fried chicken wings for $ 3.49. I was totally concerned about the length of fry time my wings got. They flash fried those puppies in like 5 minutes. I felt like I should have waited longer. I’ve cooked fried chicken wings. and I know that it takes at least 20 minutes to cook to safely eat. Since I was hungry I just grabbed my food and headed back to my building. Needless to say, my coworkers were right about Yucky Choice. The chicken wings were disgusting. Worst I’ve ever had in life! I totally get why the were able to fry the chicken so fast… they boiled the chicken to cook it through first! Then they battered it up and flash fried it. The boiling made the chicken slimy after the first bite and you can taste the rubbery feeling of the chicken skin. Totally GROSS! I’m sad because it could have tasted better if they didn’t boil the chicken first. I get it though. This is the McDonalds of Vietnamese/Chinese food. Lots of people to serve means fast food; which ultimately means poor quality of food. At least this reminded me why I always bring a lunch and never eat fast food. Thanks for the wakeup call Yucky Choice! My salad tasted extra delicious after that slimy chicken!

I’m really only going back here if I have a very short lunch and no other option is available. The chow mein was OK. The kung pao wasn’t very good. *Update* — I went back and got the Orange Chicken. More batter than meat in the entrée. It was not very good.

Regarding comments about this restaurant being«Chinese», please know that it’s Vietnamese.(you know, V I E T N A M… Hello!) Awesome noodle salad! The staff are always friendly and the food is always good. Good lunch prices and they are usually busy during lunch, but you’ll get in and out quickly. Love this place!

This place is NASTY! Ugh… when I was new at my job I decided to try it because I saw it had a shitload of people in there and saw it was cheap. I figured it must be good. Wrong. The food was just gross. Do these people not know what good Chinese is supposed to taste like? I wouldn’t feed this shit to my dead dog! I want to take a picture of these people who frequent this joint so when I enter a new food establishment I can pull up my pic and see if any of the patrons in there are the same so I can go somewhere else because its obvious these people have not a clue what good food is. I tend to reference this place as «Yucky Choice» I Dont care how quick and cheap it is… this garbage could be free I ain’t eating it! You’ve been warned…

If you want something quick, decent, and reasonably priced, Yummy Choice is a solid choice. With outdoor and upstairs seating, it is a conveniently located spot for those working in the downtown area and the menu varies just enough to keep a regular from getting bored. I work close to Yummy Choice and eat there several times a month. As a creature of habit trying to monitor calorie intake, I tend to order the same dishes, but every now and then, I branch out and so far, I have not been disappointed. I recommend the teriyaki chicken, honey pork roast, and on a day when only some salt and a little grease will do, the friend chicken wings. Not only does Yummy Choice offer the traditional dishses like fried rice, egg rolls, and chow mein, they also provide some healthier choices like steamed vegetables and steamed brown rice. They also offer salads on the menu. I haven’t tried a salad there yet, but I have never been in without hearing someone order the Chinese Chicken Salad, so I think there may be something to that. Run by a husband and wife team, the ordering and serving process is pretty straightforward and streamlined. Order at one end of the counter, and pay at the other end. And it is a very short counter. ;-)

During the lunch hour, staff was quick and courteous. The food was not tasty. Temperature was lukewarm. I had the Teriyaki Chicken, Beef and Broccoli with Chow Mein. The consistency of the food was a bit too salty, the«sauce» almost a gelled-like substance and obviously cooked much earlier in the day and not fresh. The kindness of the staff is recognized and much appreciated though.

Yummy choice is a Fast Quick choice for a downtown lunch on the go. Location: Very close to my current work location and various other State buildings, this little place is nestled in right across from Roosevelt park. VERY very tiny. A few chairs outside and a few tables upstairs. Let’s talk prices: Cheap cheap cheap. Normally you can grab the lunch special or other menu items for $ 7 or under. If you want to keep it simple you can get some chicken wings or salad rolls for $ 3.50. Food: So basically because location is very small, their kitchen is tiny. Majority of the food is pre-made and is scooped to order. But they also have items they cook right in front of you. It’s set it to be quick so quick is not always the best. I enjoyed the salad rolls and pot stickers. I will soon try the rice noodle salads. Be prepared, the owner uses kitchen scissors to cut up the meat for the dishes, not a knife. Little interesting.. . Service: Fast and very polite. You bag your own food and grab your desired sauces. Overall not bad to fast quick cheap eats! I guess I’m willing to overlook some things for a $ 5 meal downtown.
