Ate here with my husband the other night and it was a pleasant enough experience. The décor seemed somewhat dingy and was not terribly pleasant to look at but we were seated quickly and our server was attentive, so that was a plus. I got the prime rib sandwich and my husband got the steak sandwich, both were good but nothing to write home about. Overall a good experience and I’d definitely go back, but it wouldn’t be a «first pick» sort of spot for us.

Love this place and eat here often. Gerry is a fantastic server, she will take good care of you! I’ve never had anything bad there. They have the best fries in town too.

Beer cheese«soup» is a goopy gelatinous pudding like product. However, the service was very good! The girl was pleasant and funny and making jokes and two steps ahead of all of us on keeping drinks full, etc. I wish I would NOT have gotten the beer cheese soup— however, my fiancé got the prime rib, served with cheese on top, and horseradish. He was sweet enough to share with me. I was jealous. WHYDIDN’T I GETTHAT?! Very good. Blooming onion and the zesty sauce, very good. I got a full pound of the lemon pepper wings and they were delicious. I consider myself somewhat of an unbreaded chicken wing aficionado. They were very good, juicy and flavorful. When a restaurant puts it on their menu as being something they are«known for». I am getting it. The carrot cake for my dear mother-in-law’s birthday dessert was VERY good. Look, I know Elite Unilocalers know that 3 Stars are NOT bad… by any means… but 4 and 5 stars is a different caliber of eating in St. Louis. Cons:(Stupid stuff that most people don’t care about unless they are Elite Unilocalers)… The tables are terribly close together. There is very little room to walk. The ambiance could use some tweaking. I appreciate a bit of attention to décor in an establishment. I feel as though I felt this way with Tucker’s South County that made me feel underwhelmed… All in all, I want to go back for that Prime Rib!!!

Came here last weekend for a girls night. I had a roast beef sandwich and fries, it was good. We also had potato skins as a starter, they where cheesy goodness. The server was nice. She had food out fat and hot. They close at 11, but when friends get together that forget to look at there watches. They never made us feel like we needed to get out.

My boyfriend and I were looking for some place new to try and I love australia so I thought this would be great. We went in(midafternoon, about 1) it wasn’t very crowded and the waitress told us to go sit anywhere we liked. We chose the side room, which actually had a few more people than the main room. We sat there for 20 minutes and the waitress looked at us, the patrons looked at us… everyone stared, but nobody said or did anything. At first we thought maybe we had made a social faux paix, but we thought«well surely the waitress would let us know.» She didn’t and no ever came to help us, so we left. No food and no service. It makes me sad because it sounded great, but that’s a huge black mark in my book. I’m big on service, so this was a huge no no.

I was looking for a casual night with a bud and he suggested down under. Not sure what makes it australian besides the fosters beer and some décor, but i believe there is a story since my friend claims he has asked the owner many times but was too drunk to remember. I ordered the Aussie dip and enjoyed it very much. My food was fresh and came out in a reasonable time. He ordered the chicken salad and raves about how tender the chicken is. I ate his garlic bread which was also great. If its your first time, I recommend the bloomer and the beer cheese soup Normally give bars a 3 star but Service at the bar was great. We had a charismatic bartender and got to meet the owner and chef BC we were there till closing time. They let us stay until we were ready to leave while they relaxed and had some drinks themselves. Very friendly staff. All in all, a good place to end the day after a long day.

Good food — great service and if I was sixty and single, it’s where I’d go! Not too loud and a great atmosphere for talking.

Group of 4 colleagues went for midweek lunch. Fast & friendly server. Wings(both Louisiana style & Lemon Pepper style) were very good. Prime Rib sandwich tasted excellent. Others enjoyed burgers, chicken(«chook») sandwich, etc. Reasonable prices. We will return.

We thought we’d stop in since we were in the area and The Village Bar was waaaay too crowded. We could tell this place has been around quite a long time due to the décor… not anything to look at that’s for sure. The crowd that Friday night was all of the senior citizen variety. The servers were extremely nice… I will say that. Very helpful and smiling. The menu was extensive and there were 3 specials. We ordered the salmon special which is grilled salmon with a crab cake topping and two sides(we got new potatoes and green beans). We also ordered a mushroom swiss burger which comes with two sides(9.00). The food here was on the milder side… not really much seasoning. The burger was cooked perfect although it comes served in a HUGE bun… a lot of bread to be sure. I ordered the garlic mashed potatoes and I really couldn’t taste any garlic at all. I highly doubt that we’ll be back since there was nothing really that appealing about the place and none of the food really stood out to us. I feel this place would benefit from a makeover or at least an airing out.

So you want to try something new? This restaurant has the finest food in the area. Not too pricey everything delicious. Their specialty is prime rib. However I tried most everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. This restaurant is one the only one in the area where you can get lemon pepper wings as well as hot wings. Try the lemon pepper you won’t be sorry.

The service was excellent. Smiling, happy, timely, wonderful ! Tonight we started with blooming onion. It was great. Not huge, which was nice. Good amount for 3 people . The burgers were cooked to perfection. Mine had grilled onions and mushrooms. Very tasty. My husbands had blue cheese, and bacon. He really enjoyed his. The burgers come with fries which are nothing to write home about.

Bottom line, good food and service. This was one of those places that I had always known about but never been in. My friends convinced me that it was worth visiting, so I checked it out. It’s now one of our favorite places. I usually get the Kooka burger with a side of their bloomin’ onion sauce for putting on the burger and dipping the fries. I’ve tried a lot of other things on the menu, and they’ve all been very good, but that classic burger is the one I keep coming back to. Also worth noting is that their chef salad is AWESOME. Truly classic chef salad, and their house avocado ranch is delicious. Big portions, good prices, and just overall a cozy local bar and grill. Every time I go the food is out quickly and the waitresses are attentive. Give this place a try!

This is a great place to meet friends for lunch or for a drink after work. My favorite is their Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings!!! I know chicken wings! Theirs is the best! They are located literally Down Under Street Level at the back of the parking lot!!! Not easy to find but worth the search!

After a hard afternoon of shopping at the mall I wanted to try something other than the usual suspects at West County. I turned to my trusty Unilocal app and on the strength of the review from Patt C I headed here. I didn’t quite know what to expect when I pulled up, it looks a little like a dive bar in a strip mall from the outside. Inside the décor could use some. refreshing. but the place was packed for 8:30 on a Saturday night. I had the beef burgundy with mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. The potatoes were great, nice and garlicky — particularly when I added butter. The beef was good but a tiny portion! There were probably 6 of these 2″ round medallions. Not exactly filling but the sauce was really tasty. For $ 16 I’d probably pass on this one next time. My dinner companion had the beer cheese soup, which while good was more cheesy than beer tasting, and a chicken caesar salad. Both meals came with a nice piece of herbed bread. Good stuff! Service was super fast, very enthusiastic. We had three separate ladies waiting on our table. Drinks were refilled as soon as they were empty and dirty plates were cleared instantly. I don’t think I’d specifically drive to manchester just to visit this place, but I may stop in again on the«off chance» I’m down at West County mall again!

Good food. Nice service. No WOW though(no bad wow either). Aussie Dip sauce was good. Tuna Fillet was a tad dry. Very friendly and attentive service. The restaurant leans more towards its bar roots with the dark colors and wood paneling. Our dinner, with a glass of wine and a whiskey ran about $ 30.

Went today sorta mid-afternoon for a late lunch. Was gettin’ into my book, waitress noticed, and let me read with my water and beverage. Down Under is on the backside of the Colonnade Shopping Center(a strip center), 7 – 11 facing Manchester Road(just a little east of Ballas), with stores down the side facing east and more stores across the back facing Manchester Road through the parking lot. In the stores facing east, there’s Chuck’s Bar & Grill and Gerard’s Restaurant, as well as a dentist, nail salon, other places. It’s a nice little joint with a bar and high-tops in the bar, and booths and tables in the dining area. Televisions on mute(except in the bar) and good ‘70s-‘80s-rock-country music coming over the PA. Good mix. I was offered my choice of seating, and chose a booth. There’s also outdoor seating. But it faces the parking lot, so I don’t get the ambiance of that. Ordered first the fried shrimp($ 8.50), six large beautifully lightly battered shrimp with a splendid cocktail sauce that coulda used a little more horseradish(but I LOVE horseradish), served with a large wedge of lemon. I squeezed the lemon over all the shrimp, let that sink in and dipped generously into the cocktail sauce. Yummy! I lingered long enough with the shrimp, water, beverage and book that my waitress swapped out my lunch menu for the dinner menu, saying, «The chef has arrived.» Game ON! Ordered the prime rib dinner(it’s their specialty, per the menu), king size(there’s also a queen) for $ 16.95. The queen was just $ 2 less. I always go for the larger. Includes salad and two sides with garlic bread. I chose bleu cheese dressing, cottage cheese and green beans. Other choices were baked potato, mashed potato, french fries, seasonal vegetables, a couple other things. Comes with au jus and horseradish sauce(that was tangy). The prime rib was fabulously medium-rare(as ordered), a huge piece of meat that was so flavorful, juicy and tender. The green beans were tender but crunchy and well-seasoned. So tasty. The cottage cheese was a generous serving. There’s not much more to say about cottage cheese, if you love it like I do! I dipped one slice of the garlic bread into the au jus, and it was wonderful. Took the rest of the bread home. My to-go vessel was a whole bag and a container(eyes being larger than the stomach, since I hadn’t had lunch). All so ridiculously well accommodated by my cheery and spot-on server. And she added a CUP of au jus(and told me how to heat up the prime rib with the au jus, so the meat doesn’t get overcooked), and a separate container of the horseradish sauce. As well as a separate container for the cottage cheese. Along with prime rib, green beans and bread for at least two more meals! What a great find!
