The BEST Chinese take out in St. Louis. Wholesome well prepared food and reasonable prices highly recommended.

I visited Fortune Express for the first time this past Saturday evening at the suggestion of my sister for a good place in the neighborhood. Wong’s Inn in Maplewood is my usual place, but I was looking for something closer to home. I ordered sweet & sour chicken, pork fried rice and crab rangoon — looking forward to trying a new place. The sweet & sour chicken was the worst — there were actual PICKLES in it! And what’s worse was the gelatinous sweet & sour sauce that didn’t taste too bad, just lacked flavor, but was such a goopy consistency that it grossed me out. The fried rice had some flavor to it but was so greasy I couldn’t eat much of it at all. The crab rangoon didn’t have much filling in them, nor did the filling have much flavor. These weren’t cooked long enough — they were chewy and too greasy, as well. I was looking forward to leftovers but ended up throwing the majority of it all in the garbage. After speaking with others, I’ve heard this place is hit-or-miss. Next time I’ll try somewhere else. I will say the employees were friendly.

Awesome little place for Chinese food. Food was good and I loved their fried rice. Service was also great.

I’ve been ordering from here occasionally for years, have always been very pleased. The last few months everything went south. Food doesn’t arrive hot, there is so much less meat in my favorites like beef pepper and chicken with veg. Now the last two times I’ve ordered, my containers have been half full. I hate it but I’m done with this place.

Great food! The hot and sour soup is excellent, best we have had in many years! Garlic chicken, lo mein and beef fried rice… top notch! Quick delivery, food still piping hot! So very glad we found Fortune Express!

Ordered hot braised chicken with fried rice, crab ragoon and hot and sour soup. Hot and sour soup smelled horrible and spoiled, couldn’t get it pass the nose. The hot braised chicken had too much breading and taste like frozen dinner. The crab ragoon was hard and didn’t taste good at all. The fried rice was good.

Typical takeout Chinese food. The fried rice was really tasty and if I ever go there again I will stick with that. The crab rangoon was gross, the filling was hard and dry like cream cheese that sat out all day.

Great chinese food at a cheap price! We ordered using the online system which was really easy. The cashew chicken was delicious, all white meat chicken and lots of carrots, celery, water chestnuts, and cashews. The crab rangoon was awesome, not too sweet and really crispy. My husband had orange chicken which he said was great too. Huge portions as well. We will definitely be ordering again!

Today for lunch I tried the General Tso Chicken combination plate. The veggies were crisp & fresh. The quality of the chicken was great. The sauce was spicy but not too much. Once again I’m beyond satisfied with the food & service.

Decent take out, gives you deals for ordering more, huge menu bad for making decisions, doesn’t nickel and dime you over napkins, soy sauce, etc. Missouri charges tax on take out and other foods(which should really never be taxed and is an unfairly large percentage for the low income). Anyway, it’s your basic neighborhood chinese. Workers very nice and they give you good value. I just like all of the other good options you can get here where you’re not stuck with pizza and Chinese. Maybe I’ll like it again with some distance from college. And who is going to get take out if they just tax you regardless? Bleh.

They have free delivery with an $ 8 minimum. The place was small, but clean. It is sandwiched between Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate and Ted Drewes. If one where to play their cards right, 2000 calories in fifteen minutes is very possible. The parking was a bit of a hassle with the ice cream crowd. There is a television inside for the short waiting period. The spicy chicken combo was tasty. Typical combo includes the main dish, ham fried rice, and a choice between one egg roll or two crab rangoon. I was not impressed with the rangoon.

We ordered food for delivery using this restaurants website. First they forgot the fried rice. Second when we called to tell them they began laughing and arguing we didn’t order it. Not once did they ask if we wanted it until we said are you going to be sending someone with the rice and they said yes full price. When it came 45 mind later the rice did not have anything we asked in it like egg. This place is a joke and we’re offensive with how they handle a complaint. This was the first and LAST time we will be ordering from the fortune express!

I called in a delivery order and the majority of the order fell out of the container and into the bag. Food was OK but the Crab Rangoon was stale. I may try them one more time but I hope it will be better.

The first few times I ordered from here the food was good(excluding the beef lo mein, the way they make it is different and not my taste) But then the food quality went down after a few orders and I won’t order from them again. Th chicken wasn’t good at all. Almost like pre made, like something u get from the frozen section at the grocery store. Some pieces were like threads, hard to explain but was like a peel cheese stick and the chicken was threaded, just kinda gross

Every time I go to Ted Drewes I always smells something amazing and always assumed it was this Chinese place. I was wrong. Today I stopped in to try my luck but I rolled snake eyes on this one. I ordered the Hot Braised Chicken(boneless) with pork fried rice and Crab Rangoon. The best thing on the plate was the fried rice. It was piping hot, sticky, flavorful and left me wanting more. Sadly the rest of the dish didn’t fare so we’ll. the chicken was covered in a breading of some sort and obviously fried, and then doused in sauce. The sauce was pretty sweet, and since it was HOT Braised Chicken I expected it to be spicy, but there was zero heat, only sweet. And the breading on the chicken soaked up the sauce and just because this soggy smooshy stuff and then came off the chicken as soon as you pierce it with a fork. Disappointing. Then there was the Crab Rangoon. They give you two but they’re small and there’s hardly any filling in them. There couldn’t have been any more than a half teaspoon of filling in each one. It was like biting into a plain fried wonton wrapper. I don’t think I’ll be back, but I will still search for that great smell outside Ted Drewes.

My family and I have been ordering from Fortune Express for years because the food is not only delicious and always freshly made but the service has always been great as well! I loved when I was close enough to use their delivery service but now that we have moved to House Springs I just have to make the drive into the city a few times a month for pick up from them! YUM!

We order here about once a week now! The quality cannot be matched for Chinese delivery in the area. Everything is delicious and seems fresh; portions and prices are reasonable. Great customer service for FOH(at least for the people working the phones.) Sometimes delivery can be a bit slow and the drivers sometimes seem to tack on an extra dollar??? At least give this place one try, you won’t regret it.

Recently we strayed away from Fortune Express after they messed up a carry out order. They also served up an order of Egg Drop soup that looked like a mixture of ED and Hot and Sour Soup. Now we’re bored with our new fast food Chinese restaurant and thought it was time to let bygones be bygones and come back to FE and we’re glad that we did. When I have Chinese, I have to have an Egg Roll. It is just one of those weird Steven B. unwritten rules and I am always pleased with the ones I receive at FE. We shared an order of Crab Rangoon(5), which you can get FREE if you have the coupon on the back of their menu and spend over $ 15. Giving you a savings of $ 2.50. The SO doesn’t do Egg Rolls so he ordered Pot Stickers(6) as his extra treat. They were okay, it was kind of obvious that they were a frozen product and not made in house. My entrée was Hunan Chicken and instead of the traditional Steamed Rice, I choose Fried Rice which I think really made this spicy dish pop. A half order and I still had enough left over to enjoy at work the next day. The SO went off typical path and enjoyed Chicken Low Mein. Proving that, change is good. So you know where this little Chinese restaurant is located, it is across the street(only a 100 ft) from Ted Drews.

I had this place delivered earlier today. Easy set up on the website, and they resolved whatever credit card issue they had before. Delivery is free within 3 miles, which is awesome. $ 15 minimum delivery, but you also get something free if you spend $ 15. That makes no sense, but at least I get something«free»? Everything was really hot when it arrived. I got the hot and sour soup. It’s a bargain and really tasty. At the advice of another reviewer, I tried the St. Paul sandwich, which I’d never heard of. I wouldn’t do the chicken again because it made for weird texture, but I liked the taste. Mmm mayonnaise. The orange chicken was weird. Good flavor(cabbage, oranges, and all), but the outside was too mushy for my taste. I got an eggroll to make my order cost exactly $ 15, which was standard/good. Also got free crab rangoon, which had a lot of extra fried wonton-only parts(my favorite). Definitely will get this place again since it’s close and cheap, but I will have to pick a different entrée. Pros: price, portion, delivery(free) Con: textures lol

So much food for so little dough… I was amazed at how fast they were and how cheap it was. I ordered hot and sour soup, orange chicken, hunan chicken and got 2 egg rolls free(a special offer they were running). The hot and sour was piping hot with huge pieces of egg drop and long strips of pork. The pork was a little on the tough side but overall the soup was pretty good. The orange chicken was a little disappointing. The chicken was breaded and deep fried but must have been hanging out in the orange sauce for a while because the fried breading was soggy and falling off the chicken. The hunan wasn’t too bad, but I’ve had better. The egg roll, not memorable. Nothing super special here. Cheap and fast eats for sure, but that was about it.
