Great sandwiches I love the Philly cheesesteak and they fry the fries in peanut oil so yumm lemonade is bomb!

Awful awful experience. When I arrived they took my order as normal but when I went to pay I notice 3 people ahead of me waiting at the cashier. I am then informed that the credit card machine is down and they don’t know when it will be back. I agree to wait because I can see them trying to fix it. After about 10 minutes they get it figured out which isn’t a big deal since that was about the time my 2 subs are ready. I take my food and head home without checking because the receipt was correct. When I get home and open them up they are both way wrong. Instead of the 10″ Dagwood with everything on it including bacon which is extra I receive an 8″ turkey sandwich with onions and lettuce. The other sandwich was supposed to be no mayo and extra banana peppers. Instead it had plenty of mayo and no banana peepers. To their credit the fries were excellent.

The food is good and the employees are always busting their butts to get everything done, too bad this place is horribly understaffed. Every time I come in, it’s two people just getting slammed. They are always nice, I feel bad for them. I’ll probably stop coming to this location until they decide to properly staff up.

Worst service ever at a Penn Station. Not very busy but I wait 6 minutes at counter to order even though there is no line. After I finally order another guy orders right after me. We both ordered the same thing but he got his food before me(by around 7 minutes). Last time I was here I left before I got my food. I forgot about that experience but tonight’s disaster reminded me. Incompetent unapologetic staff. I won’t be back

Saturday night around 9:30(they close at 10), we visited Penn station. We had other errands to run so. we planned to eat there rather than doing take out. When we first walk in, we are«greeted» by an employee’s exposed butt crack for several minutes. We ordered a chicken parmesean and specified no mushrooms and my fave– turkey, bacon and extra pickles. My husband’s sandwich was loaded with mushrooms while mine was not only missing extra pickles, instead there were zero pickles! Rude. I’m not sure what was up with the bread but it was smaller than a hot dog bun! The employee name on our ticket was Anthony. We had a similar situation the last time we ate there. So I guess that’s it Penn Station. We won’t be back anytime in foreseeable future.

Penn Station is a tasty option when we are in a hurry or can’t decide what we want to eat. The employees at this location are incredibly friendly. It’s a great place because of their attitudes and customer service.

First time eating at a Penn Station. I was pleasantly surprised. I had the Italian 6″ sub. It looked very appealing and was very tasty. The meat on the subs is cooked on a grill and the bread is toasted and warm. The French fries were better than most fast food places. They were crispy and had the skins on them. I look forward to another trip back. The staff were very pleasant too.

I went to pick up a sandwich really quick after stopping in to get my nails done next door. It’s not a place I normally go, but I have had sandwiches from Penn Station by my office so I knew they were good. First impression was horrible. I think someone had been urinating in the threshold between the dining room door and the outside door. The staff inside of the place seemed SO unorganized. people were getting their food at random times, not first in first out. which i thought was odd. The food tasted fine. It still isn’t going to be a regular place for me.

What a deal, buy 8″ and get another 8″ free. I found a Entertainment Coupon that was a Buy One — Get One Free and that is a deal you just can not pass up. We ordered a Italian and a Chicken Parmesan. Once home, we cut the 8″ in half so we each got to experience both. Tonight the Chicken Parmesan was the winner. A chicken breast and pizza sauce with other garnishes, make for a tasty sandwich. Their fries are some of the best in fast food. Big Idaho potatoes, freshly cut with skins left on and deep fried to a crispy treat. A large order is sufficient enough for two to share. To wash it all down, a gallon of their fresh squeezed is the perfect beverage. Normally, I love Penn Stations lemonade, but this time it was way too sweet. I’ll forgive them this time. Staff is always friendly and you can watch them make your order. While you are waiting be sure to sign up their e-mail alerts, you’ll get special discount announcements.

Lately, it seems like every time we check out Penn St, we’re like«WTF happened?» It’s just not as good as it used to be! I ordered the same thing I do every single time, the cheese steak with banana peppers. Too much cheese(which I don’t think I have ever said, in my life) not enough meat and veggies! What a fail. Furthermore, the customer service definitely left something to be desired. No smiles, no hellos or thank yous. No reason to support this chain when there are so many other great local establishments. Pish posh on Penn Station.

My goodness, I love Penn Stations Philly Cheese Steak — hot and fresh with sauteed onions, banana peppers and mayo. Their fries are some of my faves as well. Here’s the problem, though. Penn Station is getting a little stingy these days. And that’s why I’m dropping them from a 4– to a 3-star review. I stopped in a few days ago and got assualted by every worker turning around and yelling«Hi, how are you!?!» at me when I walked through the door. Why do they do that at fast casual restaurants? I have never once thought, «Oh, that is so nice and kind,» but rather, «Good Lord, what in the holy hell just happened!?!» Anyway, placed the order at one end of the counter, then made to go to a second counter to ring out(by the same person). Weird. Food came out looking fantastic, except the medium fries that we ordered to split came out, not in the medium size cup they used to use, but rather just a handful next to my sandwich. Last time I checked it was not the 1800s, this is not Ireland, and there is no potato famine. So what gives? I’m pretty sure you’d get the same amount with just a small, so just stick with that. Next, I noticed there was no mayo on the sandwich(like I ordered as an option off of the menu), so went to look for packets at the condiment stand. None anywhere. Apparently now you have to ask the workers behind the counter to hand you 2 packets of mayo, you know when you can finally get their attention. Stupid. I know I sound like the Grumpy Old Man, here, but in my day you got what you ordered and paid for… and we liked it! I still love the food at Penn Station, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have tried Penn Station before and it was good, much better than Subway however I still prefer a good locally owned sandwich shop over the corporate chain restaurants, however I really didn’t have a choice on my most recent vist. I was waiting to get my oil changed at Dobbs so I decided to grab a bite to eat at Penn Station since it was right around the corner. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Blu and to my surprise there really wasn’t a lot of chicken on the sandwich, I had the same sandwich in the past and it seems like either this store isn’t as generous or policy is to start cutting back. Either way the sandwich was decent, but nothing to get overly excited about.

Not a hockey game goes by without the advertisement of Penn Station East Coast Subs. Apparently it was voted best restaurant chain in Saint Louis as well. I know, I’m parroting the commercial but I gave this place a try earlier this year and did so again last night and I have to say they make a pretty decent Philly. Let me say this, I’m a big guy(6’4″ 210) and I eat, a lot. I was surprised that I would feel so full after an 10″ sub and a small cup of fries(which actually equate to a McDonalds large just because whenever I order a large fry from McDonalds I never get a full carton). Penn station is definitely generous with their fries even at the small size. On my philly this time around I went with Onions, Mushrooms, Cheese and Mayo. Some of you reading this probably just had a heart attack. Upon eating the sandwich I noticed that most of the topping was Onion. It had very few mushrooms in comparison but it was still good, just could have done without so many onions on it. I’m not sure what makes this the best restaurant chain in Saint Louis but the food is pretty damn good. My recommendation, if you normally get a medium or large fry, get the small. If you normally get a foot long, get an 8″ or a 10″. I’ll definitely be heading back here.

Penn Station is my favorite sub shop, even though I must admit I go to Subway more often(since its closer to work). 99% of the time I get a Philly, and I’ve never had a better tasting Philly anywhere, but sometimes I get a Pizza sub, which is really tasty and messy. This location also has the best crew of all the Penn Station locations I’ve been to. The only complaint I have is the fries. Fresh-Cut fries are just not the best and tastiest way to make fries… it’s a gimmick. They don’t get crispy, just mushy even on the best day. Frozen fries are the way to go. I know that may sound like a joke, but its not.

Jesus Christ Penn Station is delicious. You can’t go wrong with any of their sandwiches; the bread is always fresh and just slightly chewy, perfect to go with the tons of options that you have for stuffing it. Even if you order a ‘themed’ sandwich(Italian, Dagwood, etc.), you can custom order what’s in it, ensuring your general happiness every time. I used to try all of the different sandwiches, but then I had the Philly Cheesesteak and it was all over. I’m sure it’s not«authentic» Philly style, but wow. It’s amazing. The fries are cut fresh from real potatoes. That makes them some of the best fries in town – just crispy and perfect. The high school kids working the counter are pleasant and the dining area is just casual, no frills. Penn Station is my default spot for a simple meal that I know will be excellent, every time.

SOOO good! I used to love eating at Penn Station when I lived in Ohio and was really excited when I found out we had one in St. Louis. Great sandwiches– warm fresh bread and fresh cut fries! A bit pricey for a sandwich, but totally worth it.

Yes, it’s a chain, but oh how I love me some Penn Station. I’d marry the fries if it were legal. And, you know, not weird and stuff. No, seriously, I sometimes come to Penn Station just for the fries. I’ll order two large buckets and nothing else, and I’ll be perfectly happy. The fries are made from actual potatoes, and if you’re curious, you can watch them spin-peel and slice the taters into fries. Add those to the oil, and bam! Real-fry heaven. Sometimes my body does yell at me to eat some veggies, though, so I either order the artichoke sandwich or make up my own. My weirdo dream sandwich includes artichokes, mushrooms, saurkraut, two types of cheese, lettuce, green peppers, tons of onions and some oil and vinegar. The folks at Penn Station never blink an eye when I order this, which I totally appreciate. For the record, I’m a skinny girl, but I can eat. When I do two buckets of fries, I’ll only supplement that with a cookie. When I order a sandwich, it’s either a small or medium, and I’ll still order fries. My friends usually are filled by just a sandwich, but not me. In fact, I ate TWO large orders of fries AND a sandwich the other day. The Hampton Avenue Penn Station particularly is great. The workers there are friendly and quick, and they always manage to make my sandwiches really cheesy, even though I don’t request it and even though I don’t pay extra for it. «Cute girl favor» for me? Maybe. But seeing as how most of the sandwich makers here are girls and not boys, I wouldn’t count on it. I think they’ve just finally realized that people like cheese on their sandwiches, especially vegetarian sandwiches. As others have mentioned, the lemonade at Penn Station is really, really good. I’ve found myself watering it down just a touch lately, though. Oh, and you’d probably guess this, but Penn Station is smoke free. Rock on. I give four stars instead of five for the following reasons: * The lemonade is behind the counter, and I feel really awkward waiting to ask someone to give me a refill. * They don’t have to-go cups for water. I love the lemonade, but I only get it on rare occasions now; I generally drink water at all meals. More than half of my Penn Station orders are take-out, with me eating in the car on the way to wherever. However, the folks at most of the area Penn Stations look at you like you’re crazy when you ask for a to-go cup for water. They usually hand you one of those tiny plastic cups, which are fine for dining in, but they don’t fit into cup holders and lids don’t fit them. I understand not giving premium cups to folks dining in, but come on – they can spare the $ 0.20 cup on someone who is taking yet ANOTHER weekly order to the car. :/

Subs, like coffee and tax returns derive most of their quality from who prepares them. That’s why even sub chains like Penn Station can have the quality vary greatly from location to location. Except Penn Station might be one chain exempt from that rule because every location I’ve ever been to has been delicious. They all aren’t amazing, but I think this location on Hampton is pretty close. The real bonus is that the staff here are super friendly and fast. Despite being so tasty, I do think they are a tad bid overpriced. And I am not a fan of the lemonade-is-now-behind-the-counter-so-you-can’t-order-a-regular-drink-and-get-it-without-paying-20-cents-extra trick. But these are minor bumps in the road to sub sandwich heaven.
