Large selection and veggie friendly! Awesome service, and they have a really cute outdoor space to enjoy your meal. Extremely friendly staff. They brew their own tea, and it seems as if pretty much everything here is made from scratch. They have a great deal on cookies, two for a dollar, which are AMAZING!

Love this place! A straight ahead deli that’s not trying to re-invent the wheel. Sandwiches, salads and soups done right! The Grove Club is my go-to sammie. A half of sandwich is usually ample but sometimes you just can’t help yourself and eat the whole thing! Everything I’ve tried here is what I want for deli style lunch. Excellent taste, superb quality, generous portions with a nice friendly staff. Perfect for any lunch.

I will start this review out by saying that the 1 star review is not based on the food because we didn’t really get that far. My family and I stopped by there to pick up a late lunch. We moved to Webster Groves not too long ago and wanted to try a new place. The place was completely empty except for a very quiet young girl at the counter and a guy I maybe assume is the owner. We ordered a few sandwiches and a gyro. Both people working were very unwelcoming and seemed a bit annoyed by us showing up. The problem with this visit was that while we are watching them make our food, neither the guy nor the girl are wearing gloves. I am not a germ freak and don’t mind the occasional touching of my food but all of these sandwiches required a lot of touching including my gyro. I watched until about half the food was made then I had to ask. I asked if they usually use gloves when they make the food. While maybe there is not way to ask this that isn’t going to sound ignorant, I really made a conscious effort when asking this not to sound like a jerk. What did I expect the response to be? I am not really sure; maybe I thought he would apologize and say something like yeah I usually do and throw some on, but he answered like he was ready for me to say something. He immediately said«Do you want your money back? My hands are clean» in a very get the hell out kind of way. I was surprised by this response and didn’t answer right away so 2 seconds later he told the mute girl behind the counter, «give him his money back and tell him not to come back.» I reminded him that this was a restaurant and that he was touching all of our food to which he replied, «My hands are clean, all I have touched all day is food, you just have to trust me, I’m a professional.» He then told the girl again to give me my money back and tossed the half made food around and reminded me not to come back in. So here is my thoughts on this. I tried to be as cool as I could with this guy’s bare hands all over mine and my families food. The guy was obviously already in a bad mood and in no mood to deal with lip from some customer. Firstly and unfortunately for this restaurant and this guy, who most likely is the owner(possibly manager), customers are where the money comes from so don’t be a ass. Secondly, you are a restaurant, you are making peoples food; sandwiches no less; put on a pair damn gloves. While you may be a professional with clean hands, your customers don’t know that and don’t know you. Thirdly, when your business is completely void of customers at 3pm on a Saturday, don’t run off the only ones that walk in by acting like a jerk in front of their young kids. While your lack of entrance from Big Bend is completely ridiculous and inconvenient, you are taking up some prime property that could be used by a better place. I have a feeling the place may be on a downward slide. As requested, I won’t be back. After this visit, I will wait until a better place moves in, which looks like could be in the near future.

Surprised by the quality of the sandwiches since I never hear anyone from my circles in town talking about Grove Deli. But I guess I shouldn’t be since they have been around for 40 years! A little hard to access since you can’t get in via Lockwood. But we really liked our sandwiches: I had the Club sandwich and it had a substantial amount of turkey and ham on it, and it tasted great. My wife had the hot turkey and ham on French bread — also delicious. We will be back to try more!

Had the gyro and it was pretty tasty. I’ll definitely be back to try and eat the entire menu before swimsuit season kicks in.

It’s a bit of an adventure to find the place, but with a little help from Google Maps and the enormous«Grove Deli» sign on the back of the building, I made it there safe and sound. This place is larger than it looks, with two inside rooms for seating and a comfortable covered porch with several more tables. I visited on a Friday afternoon and there was live music on the porch(guy with a guitar and harmonica) so I opted to sit outside and listen. They also had a magazine rack inside with lots of reading material, which I thought was a neat idea. I ordered the Webster Club and coleslaw and really enjoyed my meal. The sandwich was piled high with meat so I felt the price was justified, and the coleslaw had a good balance of mayo, cabbage and a touch of vinegar to keep things interesting(but not sour). The only complaint I have about this place is that it took quite awhile for my food to be ready. I ordered at 12:25 and it was after 12:40 when it was delivered. I’d expect 15 minutes for something that had to be cooked or baked or whatever, but this was just a cold deli sandwich. I suppose the lunch rush just got the best of them today. Another reviewer(from a long time ago) mentioned Free Cookie Friday, and I am sad to report that I visited on a Friday and there were no free cookies. You could still get 2 chocolate chip cookies for $ 1 tho.

The Grove is a good place to go for lunch, as the service is quick and the portions are appropriately sized. Their menu is largely warm sandwiches, soups, and salads, and they typically have a tasty special that is the best bang for your buck when you add in the drink and side which, ordered a la carte, are a little pricey for what you’re getting. The dining area is casual, where one would feel comfortable bringing a laptop to work, although the whole place lacks personality in the way of décor. The shaded outside deck faces the parking lot but is fabulous for enjoying on a nice day. I’ve been there many times and the staff is always friendly and helpful, and I’ve never had an issue with the accuracy of my order. I typically order the Gateway Melt or the Champion Melt. Both are good options. The French bread is lightly toasted to give it just the right amount of crisp. The meats are typically something to be found at a good deli grocer. On the Champion Melt, the mixture of the provolone and cheddar goes well with the ham and turkey. On the Gateway Melt, the more robust cheese is a good compliment to the BBQ sauce. If that doesn’t suit your fancy, they have wonderful rotating specials that are way awesome! All specials come with a side and a drink, in a perfect portion size. I highly recommend the mushroom bisque soup(which can also be your side) and I always like their gyro. Good stuff!

We come to this place for lunch once every couple of weeks. They always have good specials that are sometimes fun to try. They have a great patio to sit on when the weather is nice outside. The inside of the restaurant is a little dated, but has a «home» feel. I normally get the Gateway Melt which is delicious but they’ve recently changed the BBQ sauce they put on the sandwich… which isn’t as good as the originally. So that is a little disappointing. Anyways, this is a great place to go for sandwiches and chill on the patio when you need a break from work. It’s a short walk from my office and you can get a decent sized sandwich for your money.

Everything here is fantastic!!! Seriously I have tried just about everything on the menu and it is all great! The portions are very large and everything just tastes so fresh! It is my favorite place for lunch! If I had to pick a favorite item it would be the BLT. It has a ton of bacon and I wish my bacon was as crispy as theirs! I don’t know how they do their bacon but it is the best I’ve ever tasted! The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. Kudos!!!

I must have walked past The Grove a couple million times, about half of those times I sorta scratched my head wondering how in the hell do I get in. The deli is centrally located though awkwardly placed right in the middle of the Downtown Webster Groves strip just a short hop skip and a jump from Webster University. Call me picky, call me lazy I don’t care but as a pedestrian I found it really inconvenient to have to walk around to the back of the building and cut through a parking lot to get in. I had heard good things about The Grove which is why I put in the extra effort to find the door and check it out the other day on my lunch break. All in all I don’t think it was worth the effort. There are a sprinkling of unoriginal vegetarian options on the menu(no, egg salad doesn’t count) which in this day and age always surprises me. Half the salads on the menu all come with meat, this isn’t unique to The Grove but whenever I see it I’m always left wondering why. All salads feature the standard cast of characters of yawn… next pleas. After some deliberation I settled on the Greek Veggie, the only vegetarian sandwich on the menu because, again Egg Salad is meat based and not vegetarian. The sandwich was a whole lotta meh and hummus between two slices of bread. Prices and vegetarian options are comparable to Stratton’s Café across the street though the quality really isn’t close.

Not many vegetarian options. Pricey for the portion size. Good sandwich at least. The cashier was nice. Edit: I should have been more specific. HOT vegetarian options. There are lots of salads and a few vegetarian friendly cold sandwiches. Soups and sides too. I would have liked to see more hot sandwich options to choose from. The cashier was helpful and worked with me so we could find something I liked better. Thank you for pointing this out, Jason.

First time here. The Reuben was delicious & the deck out back is great on a nice day. Apparently they have comedy on Saturday nights. A nice assortment of cocktails is also available which is unique for a deli.

The Grove Deli is pretty great if you can find it! Tucked behind the main strip on Big Bend, this little deli has great food, a cute porch to sit out on, and the staff is super friendly. I had the Grove club and it was piled high and very yummy! And Aimee K. was right, ask for an extra pickle as they are mini sized but so good! Prices were kinda high, but based on the amount of meat that was on the club I could say I got a deal! I recommend spliting a sandwich or ordering just half as they were way too much for one meal for me. There was a guy playing music inside on the Saturday we stopped in, which was a bit loud for a sandwich shop, but I understand that the Grove Deli is known for having live entertainment and comedy shows. I would come back for another yummy lunch for sure.

I’ve been going there almost every Friday for over 2 years… I normally love the food, but when my friend ask if she could sample the egg salad, the owner replied, this isn’t f’in Schnucks… sorry guys, you just lost a loyal customer.

I’ve lived in Webster for so long, but because you can’t enter this place from the«main drag» of Big Bend, and have to go around to the back, I never really knew that it existed. I’m not the greatest with directions and such, even in my own backyard. I finally figured it out though, and I’m glad that I did. There is nothing fancy about this place, but it’s very homey, they have a nice back patio if you like to eat outside, and they appear to make most things from scratch, which I like. Many little delis like this have the same macaroni salad, the same potato salad, the same soups… but here, everything seems to have a different twist. The chili is vegetarian and has unusual veggies in it, like cauliflower. The macaroni salad has tiny cubes of cheddar cheese, celery, and even a little pickle relish in it, which is delish. And the egg salad, which I am generally really picky about, is good too. I do wish that they had better pickles for a deli(they taste like Vlasic or Mt Olive from Schnuck’s), but they do use pickles in their egg salad and in their mac salad, so I forgive them. They have a nice leather couch to sit on while waiting for take-out orders, as well as every possible magazine that you can think of to read. Feeding food and celebrity gossip cravings at the same time? Yes please. And occasionally, they live music too, which I enjoy because I’m always here waiting by myself. I love to support quality Webster businesses, especially when the owner is always so gracious and thankful for the business. I rarely am able to stop in because I’m so busy, but when I can, I definitely will!

I am a frequent shopper of Daisy clover and have never been here before. Yesterday that changed. Fair prices, friendly service and a comfy environment with free yummy smells. We split(and were SUPER full) a Reuben sandwich and the tomato basil soup. Will most for surely return for round two next time I am in DC.

Really good sandwiches and salads, and at very reasonable prices. VERY large portions. We’ve ordered out from there several times, and the food is always ready by the time we walk the two blocks to their store. The staff is friendly. I like it.

This is going to be a short review. I like The Grove Deli. People: Great, conversational, ready to learn about vegan/veggie folks. Atmosphere: Cute, comfortable, and cozy. Food: Pretty good, filling, and served fast! Good example of deli that’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to be doing!

FREECOOKIEFRIDAY? FREECOOKIEFRIDAY?! The Grove Deli is pretty darn good. A) They have great daily specials that are even cheaper than regular sandwiches. B) It is behind my fave store, Daisy Clover, so I can order, then the Grove staff will bring me my sandwich in the store, where I’m bothering the workers, no doubt. C) Chili! D) Cookies! E) Nice employees! I have been known(in my bum days) to wander in on a Tuesday, order lunch, and ask for my damn free cookie. Then I would realize I don’t even know what f*ing day it is, get a job! Once I got a free cookie anyway ;) Or maybe that was a Friday? Anyway, if free cookie Friday still exists(I haven’t been in on a Friday in a while) it’s the best thing ever. Go, my child.
