Very impressed with the cheese board. Pleasantly surprised with how nice it is on the inside.

In my book, there’s really no justifiable reason for walking into a place with a significant number of Unilocal reviews averaging up to 2.5 stars, given the many choices in this town. However, it was a very late evening following a landing at MSP after a week-long business trip, and this place is close to my home, so I gave it a try. Really, 2.5−3 stars is about what this place rates. Nothing awful, but nothing special either. There is plenty of parking in their lot, which is always a plus in the Cities. The place is decent on the inside, just your typical bar and grill. The food was ok — it showed up quickly and fed the need, without being anything to write home about. To me, the service really makes or breaks a place, especially as a frequent business traveler, to whom a smile or a kind word makes a difference. Nice-looking barmaid? — check. I mean, how do you ever go wrong with black spandex yoga pants, right? But curt and unsmiling from order to payment. Too busy making time with a guy at the far end of the bar that she rushed back to immediately after taking care of business with other customers. Wrong or bad? No. But will I come back? No. Take any offramp on any highway in America, stop into the closest fast food restaurant, and experience the same level of service.

This place is your standard bar grill food. I had the St. Paul burger(two beef patties with cheese and thousand island dressing). The beef was tasty but I longed for some lettuce, tomato and perhaps a pickle with my burger. The fries were okay although a little overly salty. The server was not exactly warm but she was not rude either. I d probably go to Burger Moes for a good burger next time.

Man. I didn’t want to pile on but I have to in order to help who’s ever will be next to visit this establishment. We had a business lunch today with a client. But the place he suggested down the road was closed on Monday. So we went here. It was at noon on Monday. The gal came by with our drinks and then disappeared… litterrally. 10 minutes later, we were ready to order. But she wasn’t because she was no where to be found. I almost got up and tried to go find her. Then she came and took our order. It took another 20 – 30 minutes to get the food. Really? We didn’t order steaks. We all had sandwiches. My client even said it took a long time. Oh well. At least now we can eat. I had the Chicken Cyn. My co-worker had the fish tacos. My client had another chicken sandwich. None of us barely finished our meal. It was very ordinary. Nothing would scream, «I gotta have it again». Overall, the poor service was what did it for me. When we left at 115, the place was empty. Not sure how they can hold up.

jess c. My husband & I decided to give them a try. Trying to stay in our ‘hood, but up for something new. 5:30 on a Sat. Two employees at the door, 1 greeted the other sat, lounging on a bench. We were shown to a table. We could see 4 waitresses waiting near the kitchen. Our Server came right away, we asked for suggestions. She gave us some good options. He got a beer, it was bad. Smelled like vinegar & tasted worse. She took care of that, took our Order. I got a Ruben & he got an Asian chicken dish. Awful! Everything smelled like old Oil, & tasted that way! We again complained, she sent one of the 3 Managers over. He took one of the dinners off the bill, but defended the quality. Our Server was great. It is 7+ hours later and I am sick! Pepto is my friend. We wont be going back.

Holy apps. I got the merlot sirloin steak strips with button mushrooms and potstickers with slaw(but it tastes like kimchi). Man, they must have a saucier back in the kitchen, ’cause that slaw rocks my socks… bursting with flavor. And my drink was mixed well, too. Ty, you guys!

Place is OK. It was the original Champps and recently changed the name. It is usually pretty dead so I am not sure how they stay in business. I was hoping with the name change they would get some new menu items, but not so. The steak salad is actually pretty good though! Can’t speak to the other menu items.

This place used to be Champps. I was excited when I saw a new place was in here as I was not a fan of the Champps at this location. For some reason it is worse than the others. Anyhow, I quickly found out this this is still the same old Champps but with a new name. Even the menu is exactly the same. I got tricked into going back to this place. Don’t let it happen to you too.

Stopped here for a Monday happy hour while taking my buddy to the airport. The nachos were a good deal for $ 4.75, chips were crispy, cheese evenly melted, came with sour cream and salsa AND chopped olives, lettuce, tomato and jalapeño. We both had burgers and fries. I had the St. Paul Burger which was two patties, lettuce, american cheese — a big mac minus onion and pickle. It was actually delicious and cooked perfectly. My buddy had some sort of pepperjack, habanero sauce burger, I tried a bite. It also was delicious. Service was spot on, atmosphere was friendly, beers were cheap(happy hour). Left me pleasantly surprised.

The only saving grace here is a decent HH. Otherwise the prices, service, food and drinks are over-priced and lazy. That may be why it’s almost empty on Happy hour. Bartenders and servers chat it up with each other while customers wait. Food is SERIOUSLY over-priced. $ 29.99++ for a ribeye at this place is unacceptable.

My wife and I had a $ 30 Groupon here. The place was expansive and they had about 2 servers for every table that was eating. We sat down and watched the Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest on one of the twenty screens inside. The menu was expansive and I had a Peace Tree IPA while I looked it over. I love the big 25 oz mugs. Score! I ordered the spicy grilled Buffalo chicken sandwich and the soup of the happened to be minestrone, my wife’s favorite! What a great Fourth of July. We waited about 10 minutes and I got another Peace Tree to go with my food. The chicken sandwich was PERFECT! Just the right amount of spiciness and they even had wonderful blue cheese dressing as a side. The coleslaw was fabulous and our waitress checked on us often and refilled my wife’s Diet Pepsi often.(No Coke products. Boo) Great beer, amazing juicy and spicy Buffalo sandwich, and the best company in the worls made it a world class experience.

I long for the old Champps. Bring the pizza back, you nice pizza oven is still there sitting idle! Our meal was lukewarm as I am sure many other diner’s were too. Many meals sat under the heat lamps while the rest of the table’s meals were cooked. Even the waffle fries were soggy and getting cold.

Eating here made me sad. Was it the bus station/former cafeteria style of the tiled floor or the staff that all looked and acted depressed? Does it matter?

This is a sports bar on steriods… ooops poor choice of words! This place is great to watch your favorite sports on serveral TV’s. The food is very good and the service is usually very good. It can get busy during sporting events. Popcorn is served all the time. Parking is a premium so you may have to use the strip mall parking on the west side. The waffle fries are outstanding. They have a special sauce but I prefer Heintz Ketchup!

Champps has never blown me away, but it is a fairly consistent joint. The food is fair, the service okay(though at times it is slow) and the ambiance is sports bar. I like sports on TVs so that works for me. They have balloons they give to kids, so that wins my four year old over. Their beer selection is a bit lame on tap considering all the local options they have, but I am not coming for a dining and beer experience. I am coming for a place I can bring my kids and we can be loud and messy and eat popcorn and play video games and eat food. Champps does all that satisfactorily.

Was there recently on a quiet Monday night about 11PM with three friends. We sat at the bar, ordered beers and two orders of buffalo wings. I thought the service was slow considering that it wasn’t busy, so when the wings finally came, I half jokingly said«I hope they didn’t have to chop the heads off the chickens». To which the Bar«lady» said«Do you like your chicken raw? This isn’t McDonald’s» I thought to myself, well, it’s like McDonald’s because you aren’t getting a tip.

I hadnt been to Champs in about 15 years. In the 90’s it was a hopping place, full of life, and happiness. When we walked into the Champs, at 5:30 on Friday night, I was shocked at how empty it was but what surprised me more was how it hadnt changed in 15 years! It looked really run down, the staff was rude from the start, other than one young boy who seemed pleasant. Our waitress lacked personality, was an alright waitress as far as keeping drinks full but not a friendly person, not one smile on her face. Food was mediocre, probably wont go back. There are much better places to go.

I’ve always had good food and good service here. I primarily go for lunch when I visit but icaasionally an after work happy hour as well. Everything is reasonably priced. They have plenty of Fat Tire and lots of tv’s. Not a bad place to stop!

Worst Champps I’ve ever been to. The food is at best mediocre to begin with, and it is usually served late and not prepared correctly. I had a Summit there that clearly had been sitting in a keg for about year. The worst part is the staff. I was there one Sunday when they only had about 4 patrons. The 5 staff members were WAY more interested in talking to each other rather than the few customers they had. Even the free popcorn is gross… how is that possible?
