*Bar/Drinks Review* A few girlfriends and I checked out ECHO at the start of a girls’ night out in SSI, as we had heard the atmosphere was fun and the drinks were good. I really feel overall that the experience here is pretty average; I would have expected better bar service and bartenders to be either more passionate about the customer drinks they’re slinging, or for the lounge seating area to be a little less in-your-face with the lighting. It’s definitely a loud and lively and very SSI atmosphere; you’re liable to see a private party going on in one section of the hotel lobby, and the ECHO bar packed with overflow patrons, hotel guests, and folks simply popping in for a drink or two. We had a hard time getting the attention of a bartender to order drinks(wine and cocktails from the bar menu), and once we did, he seemed annoyed at us asking which cocktails were more popular or which he preferred. Once drinks were in hand, we left the bustle of the bar for an open lounge seating banquette adjacent to the bar. Although these seats were comfortable and had the nice proximity to the bar while still retaining the privacy we wanted, we found that the lighting was annoyingly bright and not at all lounge-like. I realize my displeasure with the lighting and bar service might not be applicable to all patrons or why you’re at ECHO in the first place, but it was the impression with which I was left. Overall, the experience was A-OK, and a good way to kick-off our evening, but it’s not a place I would have spent the entire evening.

It hurts me to do this because it’s such a nice restaurant and it’s such a nice hotel, but the people need to know. I’ve been to Echo several times and it’s always delicious. However this past weekend I went and got the chefs plate. It started with a clam chowder it was nothing like a clam chowder I’ve ever had. It wasn’t a Manhattan, and it wasn’t a New England base clam chowder. It wasn’t bad just different. The second course was dumplings filled with ricotta cheese and spinach, the dumplings were so under cooked that I couldn’t even eat them. When I got home I had the worst stomach pain ever. The main course was redfish with cheesy grits whole green beans and Swiss chard. The fish was good prepared well the Swiss chard and green vegetables were very good very crispy cooked very well the cheesy grits were also delicious. For dessert I got the bread pudding with rum, it wasn’t bad but it desperately needed ice cream or something to offset the bread pudding. Overall I had to give this meal one star because of how bad the dumplings were alone. If this would’ve been my first meal at Echo I don’t think I would’ve ever came back it was that bad.

We’ve been back here multiple times & everything has been consistently good. We’ve had drinks, appetisers, breakfast… Among everything we’ve had, the grapefruit IPA& the mussels in white wine were favourites. For breakfast, don’t miss the banana pancakes & the king & prince muffins. When the weather was nice, we could sit outside near the pool. Inside, we could relax at the bar or in a lounge chair within the luxe dining area. Service was good every time. The only bad thing about ECHO is that we can’t take this beautiful place home with us.

My husband and I had lunch at Echo during our stay at the King and Prince Resort. It was a very plesent experiance. the Island sampler with chicken salad, shrimp salad and fruit, all very fresh and creative. we also had the crab cakes, the best we have had on the island. We sat at the bar, watched the ocean from our seats, and had a wonderful conversation with George, our very professional bartender. A good afternoon, with good food and company.

Great views, good service but the menu didn’t excite us. Since we stayed at the King and Prince, it was convenient for arrival day drinks and appetizers. The only thing that looked ok was the cheese tray. Good selection of cheeses, dates and honey. A few nights later, we went in for a light dinner. Husband’s chicken sandwich was bland but my winter fruit and arugula salad was outstanding.

I had dinner tonight with my wife and her colleague. First, I must say our waiter, Robbie, was fabulous! Next, all of our meals were overcooked but my food standards are pretty low so low that I think that McDonald’s makes a great burger :-}. My dinner companions did not enjoy their meals. The manager took the meals off the tab. The ambience was very good and the service was very good!

The atmosphere is great. Renovated about a year ago and much nicer than before. Our waiter was competent but didn’t seem fully comfortable, maybe he was newish. Food was decent. I had shrimp and grits. Fried pickle app was ok but it’s just pickle spears deep fried– a little too much pickle and not enough batter for me. Pickle chips would be a better balance to me. Dinner for two, one app, one drink each, no dessert for almost $ 100 after tip. A little pricey to me.

I visited Echo at the K&P for breakfast yesterday with one goal… a glass of champagne while sitting at an ocean front table enjoying breakfast. I checked their website, saw that breakfast service began at 7:00 am, previewed their Breakfast Cocktail Menu(mimosas, yes… if they serve mimosas then they obviously serve champagne) and eagerly planned my visit. Upon arrival at 7:05am, I was seated outside at a beautiful and comfortable ocean front table. When I ordered my much desired glass of champagne, the waitress told me that bar service was not available until 8:00 am. I stated that the hours were not indicated on the breakfast cocktail menu, she apologized and said these were the rules. So, I decided to have breakfast first and then champagne at 8:00. Whatever, I’m flexible. I ordered the spinach, artichoke and tomato quiche. It was about the size of the palm of my hand and perfectly cooked. I’ll be the first to admit that I do not have a discerning palette, but I’m pretty sure there were no artichokes or tomatoes in the quiche. It was served, however, with a large spinach salad with artichokes, tomatoes and mushrooms. I’m not a fan of dinner salads for breakfast… fruit would have been a better choice but I guess they were going for a low carb option. About halfway through my meal, the waitress brings over my check. I reminded her that I was planning to order a glass of champagne at 8:00 when bar service began. At this point the landscaper arrived, fired up the loudest gas powered weed eater ever, and began weed eating a few feet from my table. I get it… there’s probably no good time to do this… but it diminished my experience. It’s now about 7:45 am… I’m just killing time until 8:00. Around 7:55, the waitress comes to refill my coffee, I remind her about the glass of champagne and she now says that bar service begins at 8:30. I’m annoyed, frustrated, etc. I contemplate leaving but I’ve already invested an hour into this experience and decide to just wait it out. Meanwhile, flies are buzzing around my plate which still has not been picked up. Fast forward to 8:30, waitress comes by to tell me that they don’t serve champagne by the glass. She confirms that they sell mimosas, I ask if I can order two mimosas but have all the champagne in one glass and all the OJ in a second glass… she looks puzzled. I should have left but I just wanted to salvage the experience so I ordered a glass of moscato(gross!) and choked it down. In summary, I guess I should have called ahead and explained what I wanted but I feel like my desires were reasonable based on the internet research I did ahead of time. I do think the staff should have been better trained. If I had been told at my 7:05 arrival that bar service began at 8:30, I would have come back the next day(bonus…I would have missed the landscaper, too!).

Very good food and service is excellent. Food is a little expensive. Overall its really nice. The milkshakes are $ 8.50 for an 8 oz cup. And it was mostly ice. I really like the atmosphere and the employees

I have been at the King and Prince for 2 days now and have eaten at Echo both days. I am not sure why they have such a poor overall review. The food has been nothing short of amazing. I had the tuna appetizer that was cooked to perfection served with whipped avocado. My husband and I had salads today. Their version of a Cobb salad and the steak salad. Again both were amazing. The ingredients seem to be extremely fresh. The tomatoes were so ripe and seemed they were just picked from a garden. The food was definitely much better than expected based on the reviews. If you are in the area I highly suggest giving Echo a shot!

Food at Echo is excellent. For lunch the salad trio is superb! At dinner everything on the menu that I have had has been excellent. I have eaten at Echo about a dozen times during my stays at the hotel. I love it! I had the best Bloody Mary today. The service is excellent.

I wish I had read reviews before I went here. My group only ate their bc we were staying at the King and prince. FOOD The salad was dry and discolored. Could tell it was left out all day or unwashed. Salmon rice pilaf dish I ordered was bland and dry. It’s ok if one plate is bad. But it seemed like the rest of my table had the same thoughts toward their plates. The others ordered pot roast and steak and they were all throughly disappointed. There’s obviously a consistency in the quality of their food(or the lack thereof) and the management really needs to reconsider who cooks their food! SERVICE Service was average at best. Overall the food was over priced and after reading other reviews we did not get to experience the best part of eating here — the view — because it was dark. I’d spend my money elsewhere.

Had the breakfast sandwich with egg and sasuage– excellent beach front views but the food did not match, a subway sandwich would have been better, eggs were over cooked, sausage was dry. This may be the most expensive place to get take home grits in the world– $ 4 for 4oz. Should have left when the hotel adjacent was busy but echo had only 3 people seated.

Only beachfront restaurant & bar on St Simons Island. It is located in the King & Prince Resort & has been newly remodeled. Outdoor seating is beachfront! Happy hour is great! Food is fantastic, especially the flatbreads & burgers/sliders!

Service was slow despite more servers than patrons. Bar was especially slow(nothing fancy, just beer and wine requests). Asked me if I wanted special requests(i.e. Swapping out side items). When I agreed to swap, they were forgotten. Food was ok. Ahi Tuna was not fresh. Filet was cooked medium rather than medium rare. Muffins were the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately did not live up to our expectation of a King & Prince level restaurant.

Overall happy with ECHO for breakfast and lunch.(Breakfast ends at 10:30 a.m. so we only made it once.) Gorgeous beachfront view — that goes a long way. We sat in the dining area overlooking the beach as well as on the outdoor patio. Favorites — the lunch doughnuts(which are different from breakfast) and the fries which were DELICIOUS. Also, our waitress Jackie was SUCH a delight. Yummy mimosa, coffee and Irish coffee. Had an Island Oasis to go for walking on the beach — tasty and light. Eggs Coastal — salmon, grit cake and crunchy egg, which is a poached egg that’s deep fried. Interesting idea and everything was really well seasoned with a tomato-y sauce on the plate. Nice, reasonable portion(not large). Gf had bed and breakfast with 2 eggs, bacon, toast — again good portion and done well. Tried the half grapefruit — waitress pointed out that it would be topped with sugar so opted for no sugar, Yummy cinnamon sugar doughnut holes. Lunch — pimento cheese and fried green tomato melt. It was good. I don’t know if I’d order it again. A little too vinegary but OK. Substituted the dirty chips(that’s the brand of potato chips) for mac and cheese. Wow — the mac and cheese was HORRIBLE. Had a really runny sauce. Inedible. Gf had the grouper sandwich. The fish was nicely grilled but overpowered by the cheese and the roasted peaches which were also delicious. So glad that gf subbed the fries for the potato chips. For dessert, tried the doughnuts, which taste like like beignets — yummy.(no cinnamon sugar like at breakfast) Lovely décor.

John E’s review does Echo justice. Excellent energy, service and calibre of cuisine. Fresh ingredients, presentation with a modern flare and excellent attention to detail help bring new life into the King and Prince. Kristopher took outstanding care of my date and I. I enjoyed the fork tender pot roast while my girl enjoyed the filet. Both were exceptional(as was the green pea foam that came with our dumplings and heirloom grits). Echo offers something to please the palette as well as the eye — you won’t be disappointed.
