No cover charge was nice. Once you walk upstairs there is a pool lounge area to the right and then the dance area to the left. Nice set up, friendly bartender. I guess the coolest thing about the bar is that the D.J. had a video screen that displayed the video of the song that was playing at the time. There were dollar bills hanging on the wall and bra’s hanging from the ceiling. You can take your dollar and sign you name with a sharpie and they will hang it up. At midnight, ladies can stand on the bar and take their bra off and give it to the bar for a free shot. There were all types of people/genders in the club. People might not seem as what they appear to be.

The very closest thing to a fun gay bar in the area! Especially after the restaurants close and the serving staff show up for fun. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants no attitude friendly place with good looking crowd.

Located down by the Pier on Mallery St., Rafters is a good bar to stop in and grab a drink! This is not a fancy place, very casual, not dicey enough to be a dive bar… but almost in that category. Not sure why it’s got«& Raw Bar» in the name… I saw no food. Although, there is a restaurant right next door. There are at least 4 pool tables and 3 dart boards. TVs if you want to watch a game. Note: smoking is allowed. So if you are sensitive, probably shouldn’t come here. Went on a Saturday afternoon to escape the rain and there were only a total of 7 other people in the bar. Guess 5 pm is early for the night crowd(wow, my age is showing).

Pretty cool place. They have a pool hall along with the bar and dance floor area. Cool people and the music was ok. Drinks were cheap. It can get really crowded there, and it sucks that out there everything closes around 2 am.

Apparently, Rafters is one of *the* bars to be at on St. Simons Island. If any of you have been to Moondogs in Atlanta, I think Rafter’s might be SSI’s equivalent. There’s pool tables, darts, pinball and arcade machines, multiple bars, and a dance floor. And like Moondogs, you have to climb a set of stairs to get inside. This is a fun place to be. We visited late on a Saturday night and the bar was packed. The entire bar was smoky, especially the pool area. I could tell a lot of locals and regulars came here to hang out, drink, and shoot pool. All the pool tables were taken. I counted about 5 – 6 pool tables, all pay-to-play. The dart boards were hooked to machines with digital displays for scoring purposes. There are two bars: one in the game room with the pool tables and another in the room with the dance floor. The music in the dance room was incredibly loud, like almost eardrum-bursting loud. The dance area was more club-like with dim lighting and flashing lights. I saw bands come here to play, but there were not here during our visit. The crowd was mostly 20 and 30-somethings. I recall seeing one MILF(GILF?) with huge, fake knockers playing pool. The staff and most of the patrons were cool and laid back.

I love going to rafters to listen to some of the bands that travel threw. The atmosphere is great and so are the acoustics. Drinks are reasonably priced which is always a plus.

I have got to give Rafters 5 stars. There hasn’t been a time that I’ve been to Rafters and not had a great time. This is the place to come party when you are on the island. They always have great drink special and the food is pretty good to. Service at Rafters is great, the staff is always friendly and lively and know how to get the party started. In addition to the great boozing, partying, and debauchery; Rafters also has some nice eye candy to with the atmosphere.

I’m excited to be the first to review Rafters! I should note that I moved from St. Simons in 2004 so my review is based on that time, hopefully things haven’t changed too much. Rafters is the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights. They have great live music and lots of fun people. I met so many of my friends at Rafters and I took a few friends from out of town and they always said it was their favorite bar ever. They also have good food, the burritos are really good. I was just talking with someone a few days ago and he made the comment about how good the food is and that everyone forgets about that because of how much fun they have at the bar.
