My husband and I would always go to the one in Tigard because we used to live right down the street. When we moved to Salem we saw this one, one day while we were headed to Target so we figured we’d come in for an early dinner. We couldn’t help but compare the two. Tigard loved. This one, ehh it’s okay. The staff weren’t very welcoming and the layout of everything didn’t flow as nice, plus the food didn’t cook as quite the same. Like it almost cooked too long where all the flavors combined and we didn’t get to really enjoy it, if that makes any sense. The great thing about this place and all other ones is you can customize your food and eat as much as you want of whatever you want.

Chang’s is just so-so. It’s all you can eat, but the waiting time is so long, you’ll only want to go through the line once, so really load up your bowl(s) that first time through. The sauces they have don’t really add much flavor, so you can’t make a spicy plate without adding their chili sauce after your food is cooked. I really liked the hot & sour soup, unfortunately, had to eat it with my meal rather than before. At $ 9.95 for lunch(drinks are extra), it’s a decent value. Price is higher at dinner, but menu is the same. Don’t go right before closing time because that’s basically when they shut down the grill and you won’t be able to get seconds if you want any. There are several ways Chang’s could improve the dining experience — though I’m sure it will never happen. The best change would be just dropping you bowl off at the grill and have it delivered to your table by the server when it is ready. That would avoid the long wait in line just to have your bowl started by the cooks, and the additional waiting time while it cooks. I think most diners spend more time waiting in lines than dining. Another change would be to have tasty sauces premixed, rather than the rather flavorless ingredients that they have to choose from.

I LOVE this type of restaurant. Came here on my birthday and got a free meal. My boss loves this place so he treated me to it. The first bowl I had was VERY spicy. I had put a bunch of Teriyaki sauce on it and apparently that added some spice too it. Later noticed the sign and it said how many scoops of each sauce caused what kind of heat. After figuring this out, the next bowl I dropped the sauce quite a bit so it wouldn’t be so spicy.

I personally enjoy eating at this establishment. Food is good, service is good, and you are never made to feel hurried. I recommend Chang’s.

I was fortunate enough to have a Chang’s by my home in Seattle years ago and became instantly hooked! After over ten years in the Rogue Valley I am tickled pink to be back in driving distance of Chang’s! I have had dreams about this place for years, there is nothing like it. While there are other Mongolian Grill type places, Chang’s is the only one that is reasonably priced, all you can eat, with excellent veggie, meat and sauce selections and they fry your food to get a little crunch which we all know brings on flavor. The other MG’s I’ve been in in Oregon don’t fry, they douse your food with water to steam it. Your meal is all you can eat stir fry, choice of two soups, rice and wrappers if you want and even dessert — you can’t beat that!

The food was great. But we had to wait an hour to get our food Cooke by very unresponsive cooks. The waitress spoke so quietly that we couldn’t understand what she was saying and got the wrong drinks. The cooks also put half if our order on someone else’s plate and half of theirs on ours. The prices were way too much for our experience. We usually love mongolian grill but will not be back to this one.

Service is great, but food here is terrible. The station where you get your ingredients and sauce is messy and makes the food look unappetizing already. The first time you get a plate and it’s fried up, sure there’s a novelty aspect to it(selecting your own food, sauces, seeing the food cooked in front of you while you idly stand by in line). But even then, the taste was mediocre. Go for a second and third time, and the only reason why you’re going back for more is to fill any hunger and make the $ 15 per person charge worth it. A truly rip off price for bad food. Take your money to any other Chinese restaurant and it’s probably enough to order two different dishes per person, and I guarantee you you will come out just as full, but the food would be ten times better tasting.

They have weird hours and are CLOSEDFROM2:15−5pm… I usually try to stop in for a late lunch or early dinner and get denied. It’s not like the menu changes, I don’t understand why they close?! Most big buffets that have actual menu changes don’t even do that. Grrrrrr.

Closed. Sunday at 4pm! Anyway, they opened at 5. This is not a buffet per se, is an all you can eat Mongolian grill, meaning that you have to wait for food every time, you have to pay for rice extra and there agree no deserts. Food was pretty good but not sure if work the wait.

Delicious food here two days ago brought us back again today and we will be again. Great staff and extremely friendly. They were literally having a competition to see who could fill waters first, this is the main judgment for my tips usually, that being said I did not go thirsty nor was I bothered just kept a good eye on. I knew what I wanted and I got it all done in one trip while my girlfriend went for two trips. While I waited by myself noticing the smaller details of the restaurant and enjoying my after meal high, the waitress(current leader in water fills) took my plate and asked me if i was done then asked me if we were gonna want ice cream and I said yes and she asked if I wanted mine now or to wait. This may seem like a minuscule detail but it shows something, years of customer service experience. For a place where you kind of serve yourself I felt taken care of. She accidentally brought three ice creams and I, no shame, tried to eat two but managed to be defeated, only eating 1 and a half, haha Great place for lunch under $ 20 for 2 people, we always get there as they open to beat the rush. There area a few reviews on here that complain about them closing in the middle of the day. It’s a requirement to deep clean that grill and other cooking appliances that have catch basins, it’s a serious fire hazard plus a clean grill is a good thing. Just thought I would clear that up

The secret to Mongolian BBQ, according to my husband who knows about these things, is to fill two bowls — one with veggies & sauce(s) and one with meat(s) and seafood, and have them grilled together, since the finished food is put on plates anyway. We didn’t have any issues with ours being mixed up with anyone else’s and the guys at the grill were pretty friendly for the most part. Chang’s Mongolian Grill was very clean and wait staff were efficient, maybe not so friendly, but they got the job done. Our meal came with soup, rice, and«crepes,»(basically mushu pancakes) that I loved wrapping my grilled veggies in. For $ 12.95, it’s your own fault if you leave hungry. I loved all the fresh veggie choices available and the fact that very little oil is used too to grill your food. I’d go back if in the area again. Good value too, I’m a fan!

Glad to find this one shortly after Golden Tent Mongolian disappeared. Staff were friendly and attentive. Choices on line are very good, but I think cilantro isn’t always there. Queuing up is tight — You’re going to have to make some new friends — as it butts up against a frequently used service door. Tables, booths, chairs and«buffet» space(not sure what else You call that where You select Your food) all appeared clean. Décor still seems kind of new. I think plum and soy sauces are available at Your table. Sriracha, nuts, and sesame are available where You pick up Your cooked food. They’ll ask if You want rice and wraps and later, ice cream.

I always find my self reeking of garlic and running red lights, speeding to make it home to blow up the bathroom. The floor is very oily and the cooks that cook in front of you are not all that friendly. You sometimes get some of your neighbors food finding its way onto your plate. They close in the middle of the day for a few hours. Kinda wierd!

Good Mongolian style place. Nice people. Fair price. I can’t see paying more for dinner… not that big of a difference for the price.

We used to love this place a long time ago. Then we moved away and when we came back after 8 years, it wasn’t what we remembered. The idea of a Mongolian Grill is fantastic and we’ve been to a lot of them: some are amazing, some are dives. This one is in between. The thing that struck me the most that had changed since we left in 2003 was that the place just doesn’t feel as clean as it used to. Tables are sticky, floors needed cleaning. I realize it must be next to impossible to keep that buffet clean after each person traipses along spilling sauce everywhere, but it just seemed like it was a little unattended. For this kind of an atmosphere, we walked away feeling like we overpaid. The price seems high for what you actually get. The food was still good and we’ve still gone back a few times, but it just isn’t what it used to be.

This is pretty much the place you go with your diabetic dad in Salem. Meat and veggies and then some. Sure, you’ll have to smack the plum sauce out of his hands, but it’s worth it. We probably eat here a couple times a month. My food is always good because I make it awesome – and I applaud myself like I’m some Mongolian Grill Genius(and let’s face it, I think I am). I request for my food pile to sit on the grill a little longer to get caramelized, and they always oblige. We always tip the grill guys. You’ve got to. Anyway, if you like Mongolian, then you’ll like this place. I’ve been to a few Mongolian grills and I’m usually disappointed that they aren’t THIS one. This clean. This attentive. This generous.

We showed up late but they still let us in just before they close for their mid-day break.(Strange…why would you want to close in the middle of the day? we saw several ready to pay customers walk away). Food was fresh and plentiful and they cooked it fast, hot and not overdone. Now for the bad… The place was sooo dirty and my wife was horrified from the bathroom. It looked worse than the worse road side pit toilet. Probably will not be back to this location.

I happen to like Mongolian grills. No limit on food, make your own dishes, blend your own sauces as hot as you like… This one happens to be on the mediocre side of the long line of establishments I have visited. Yes, it has all of the above qualities, but for some reason.. . nothing really stood out or impressed me. Here at Chang’s they did not have jalapenos or hot chili sauce to blend into my mix. This was a little disappointing, as I like my food HOT. I tried to make due, but the flavor just didn’t come out right. This also could have been due to the fact the griller burnt my noodles. The choice of either rice or rice paper to make wraps in was nice. I picked the wraps, but just ate the wraps rather than put anything into it — not really sure why actually.. . hmm. Sodas are refilled often, the waitresses are friendly, the restaurant itself clean. From what I could see, the meat and veggies were replenished as needed, nothing running on empty. The cost of dinners at the Mongolian grills seems to be sneaking up there, and I thought it a little spendy for Salem. Oh, I’d come back, just wouldn’t be on my top 10.

We are big fans of Chang’s Mongolian and this is definitely the cleanest and friendliest location we’ve been to so far. With better grilling style and less oily than other Mongolian-style restaurants we’ve tried. The selection of meats, seafood, veggies, and sauces leaves you with the possibility of a new dish every time. Just the way YOU like it! It’s also been a GREAT way of introducing our daughter(now 6) to different foods and vegetables! Although there are no children’s coloring activities or anything at the restaurant, there is plenty of fun for the kids in experimenting with their food! I say at this place, encourage them to play with their food!
