Great place with helpful staff! Helped me choose my rig and explained a few things technical things. I wish they had more radios on display. ;-) I had two repair issues and they handled it all for me, sending it out, packaging it, etc. I’m glad there is a Ham Radio Outlet close to me. If not for you, worth the trip when you are heading through Salem, NH! Any questions, feel free to private message me.

They are the most unfriendly company I’ve ever dealt with! They charge you for an item you ordered, that might not be in stock for weeks!(Who does that) nobody! I will never do business with them again or recommend them to anybody! The online sales guy Berry is a pompous ass! Very rude and argumentative. He definitely doesn’t put customers first, and needs some customer service training badly!

Pilgrimages to HRO are always a treat. They have just about anything you could need if you are a ham radio operator, as I am — AB1DQ. Best of all the staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I do most of my shopping these days online — who has time and who wants the hassle of going out to stores/malls and dealing with crowds? Even though most items I buy from HRO would qualify for their free-shipping policy(and they do ship promptly!), it’s always worth it for me to drive up there on a Saturday morning from the Greater Boston area to buy my gear in person.

It seems the older I get, the more expensive my hobbies get. For the Ham Radio enthusiast this place is a financial crisis waiting to happen. Everything the new or life long amateur radio operator needs is here. Even those who are just interested in learning how to get involved in Ham Radio will find something here in the form of a large selection of study guides and reference materials. Hams are picky about radios and HRO gives you a chance to get hands on with the top brands and latest models. Something that can help you make the tough choice in selecting a new rig. With hardware running from $ 300 for a handheld to creeping up to and over $ 10,000 for ‘big gun’ contest ready rigs, this is an important step. Even more important, the staff knows their stuff. After patiently listening to the restriction I had on putting up an effective antenna and the limitations my current antenna was causing they were able to make a simple recommendation that dramatically improved my operation. I went from contacts that, in the best of cases, never exceeded 1500 to over 7500 miles. All for $ 29.99. Bearing in mind there were other antennas that were many many times that price. They listened, heard the problem, and recommended the right option at a very reasonable price. The advice given was to help solve the problem in true ham fashion(cheap), not make a high dollar sale. Not something you find these days. If you’re a Ham, or know one, it’s worth the drive to Salem to check it out. Best of all, if you live in the New England area you can order online and your items will ship from Salem store. This means delivery is usually in a couple of days even with the basic(read cheap) delivery option.

I had a problem with a radio. They took it back. With a store credit, we bought more radios. They don’t call this place the Candy Store without a good reason.
