99 Cent Only Stores

In Salinas haben wir auf der Suche nach einem Supermarkt durch Zufall einen 99 Cents Only Store entdeckt. Wir waren sehr gespannt, ob der Laden hält was er verspricht.
Der erste Laden wurde im Jahre 1982 eröffnet, mittlerweile gibt es mehr als 350 Stores in Kalifornien, Texas, Arizona und Nevada. Der Mitbegründer Dave Gold hatte irgendwann in den 60er Jahren herausgefunden, dass die Produkte in seinem damaligen Spirituosenladen mit dem 99 Cent Preis sich am schnellsten verkaufen.
Im Laden gibt es neben allerhand Krimskrams, auch Getränke, Lebensmittel, Partyartikel, Drogerieartikel, Schulsachen, Grußkarten und Süßigkeiten. Überraschenderweise gab es hier auch Obst und Gemüse.
Zu den üblichen amerikanischen Naschsachen wie Oreo, gab es hier aber auch Haribo und Werthers Bonbons. Das beste Schnäppchen war die Sonnencreme von L’Oreal, das Deo von Axe war vom Duft nicht so gelungen und kommt als Raumduft in der Toilette zum Einsatz.
Wir hatten zu einigen amerikanischen Snacks auch noch einige Geburtstagsdekorationsartikel eingepackt, die unschlagbar günstig waren. Es hatte wirklich Spaß gemacht in diesem Laden zu stöbern.

Don’t get too excited when walking into this building. Yes most things are a buck, but it can use some help with the cleanliness as well as some more employees working the registers.
All in all a great place to find some nick knacks. I come here for bars of soap, toothpaste, cleaning supplies, the occasional snacks. I usually leave with a load of items spending no more than $ 20.00.

Hot mess describes this store. No pride what so ever. I couldn’t even stay 10min in here. Like others have said the food is many days old and expired. No monitoring to ensure the safety of people and quality control is not here. There was just stuff thrown about in the entire store. Parents with their kids acting like hyenas running amuck with no instruction to correct bad behavior. Made it impossible to shop and I was in and out quickly. Disgusted.

It was a complete mess and most of the food they sell there is about 10 days expired. The bathrooms were completely unpleasant too as if no one has cleaned the floors or refilled toilet paper/​covers in days.

This is my favorite dollar store. They have just about everything you can think of. Lots of ethnic food products, groceries, bread, spices, produce, dairy, office products, beauty products, kid stuff, kitchen supplies, pet supplies. This store has the best dog toys and some of the dog treats are made in the USA. All only 0.99!

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! Tonight I bought TONS of stuff and paid $ 22! They have groceries (including produce), which is rare at dollar stores. They also sell recognizable brands! Heinz ketchup, Kraft salad dressing, Sour Patch Kids, Chips Ahoy… you get it. Everything is $ 0.99, unless it’s cheaper!
