A very nice sandwich place with good side sandwiches the service was very good. The place was very very comfortable and clean. I would definitely come again

I get the chef salad extra egg. SOOOOO yummy! Only bad part is the fact that making anything here takes forever! Love the food dislike how slow they work. Lunch time is limited time. Wish they took that into consideration. Cute interior nice staff but VERY slow moving. I have called ahead in the past and it makes no difference. Yummy food nonetheless.

I’ve come to this place a few times and while it may seem like a little hole in the wall joint, they have some great sandwiches and a very unique atmosphere. The train theme isn’t really something that I am used to yet or something that I am the biggest fan of but it certainly isn’t too much of a problem. I personally like to get the Iron Horse on my lunch hour when I find the time, and it usually is the perfect thing to get me through the day when I feel famished. Loose Caboose is usually pretty empty, but I suppose that is a result of most customers calling in their order and picking up once it is ready, as you will find to be fairly common if you grab a table and have a seat. I think this may be beneficial to their atmosphere because it becomes a great place to clear your mind when you need to step away from work for a moment. Quiet reflection with a good sandwich or salad makes this place a great stop for your daily routine.

Good sandwiches and nice staff. I usually order the BLT with avocado which tastes great. Service a little slow but im still pretty happy overall.

I went here for a sandwich the other day as I didn’t have very much time and the bagel corner had a line out the door. I ordered a turkey sandwich and waited over 15 minutes for it, even though there was only one person in front of me. It was a mediocre sandwich at best. I was looking forward to lunch and was disappointed. There were not a lot of interesting menu options and I probably won’t be returning. There are too many better options in the area for good sandwiches. I totally support small businesses but wish that some would up their game. This place will likely stick around as there are plenty of people in the area that have a penchant for bland, unremarkable food.

Sandwiches at Loose Caboose can be ordered in half size or full size. The ingredients are always fresh. Many weekdays, the place can be crowded and sometimes the line goes out the door. It is located near several major office buildings. One of the best places in town to grab a sandwich!

The sandwiches are okay. They taste like a hot sandwich you can make at home anytime you’d like. Their lunch special is pretty good, though. It consists of a half sandwich and a soup or salad for $ 5.95, although you need to pay a little extra for the«premium» sandwiches. It’s an okay place with friendly service and good lunch specials but nothing to write home about.

I recently started working in South Salinas, and hitting all the local sandwich/lunch shops is a goal of mine. I started my journey by visiting the Loose Caboose based on a recommendation by a previous co-worker. The shop is much larger than I anticipated. There was plenty of natural lighting, which made most of the shop look fairly dim. I went at lunch time, 12:45, and there were lots of open tables. The food took a bit of time to get to me, but it was really delicious. I had the Fireman’s Special(half size) and creamy broccoli soup for less than $ 7. Both were great. The soup was thick, tasty, and warm. The sandwich was very tasty as well. The only downside was the marble rye was not toasted, so the bread fell apart a bit while I was eating the sandwich. I would probably ask for toasted bread next time for ease of consumption. I would definitely go back. I’m looking to try the avocado sandwich. Hats off to you, Loose Caboose! The 3 star rating was for the wait time. Otherwise, the food was great.

Went for lunch. service was abysmal as the servers were having their lunch and did not really want to serve me. The price stated on the window outside was $ 5.99 for lunch, yet I was charged over $ 7 without an explanation. The soup was microwaved and you receive a sandwich so small it was not worth having. The café was very warm as it does not have air conditioning. This is not a good place for lunch and I cannot recommend it.

This is by far the best sandwichshop I’ve ever been to. The people who own it are extremely nice. The make the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. I go there every week and it still tastes as good if not better each day I go. It’s bloody amazing.

The décor is so western and very cute, and they made decent sandwiches. I mean, nothing amazing, but the food isn’t bad. Plus, I haven’t gotten food poisoning from their tuna/egg sandwich yet! It is a little pricey considering, well, it is just a sandwich, but it’s Salinas and there aren’t too many choices for food. I almost always get the sandwich with tuna and egg salad. The ingredients are fresh and the service is quick and friendly.

I passed by this place a couple times on my lunch break and decided to give this place a try. The ambiance has that small town feel that’s inviting. I had the Loose Caboose because its the name of the place and man was I satisfied. They piled the meat pretty high and added a lot of avocado. The sandwhich cost me $ 8 which is quite pricey but it was worth every penny. Most of the sandwhiches run for $ 7 but they have a nice special for $ 6 which includes ½ a sandwhich, soup or salad, and a drink. I can’t believe it took me this long to come here. Best sandwhich shop in Salinas period.
Definitely some of the best sandwiches in town. I’m not a big fan of Subway or Quiznos, I do however like Erik’s Deli and Togo’s but since Erik’s is too far from home and there are no Togo’s in town – Loose Caboose is your best bet. Plus, I love the fact that it’s a mom and pop shop and not a chain restaurant. I absolutely love the turkey sandwich and their prices are very reasonable considering they use fresh ingredients. :)

I had been here once before because of an Entertainment coupon. I liked it then. Then I want again and read the reviews, and someone had complained about the Ironhorse sandwich. So when I got there I had it in mind, so I decided to see if their complaints were warranted. I got the sandwich and it was awesome! I came in hungry & left full! And I don’t feel that paying $ 7 something for a sandwich and a soda is outrageous. I think people are too used to generic $ 5 sandwiches at chain restaurants! This is a great local sandwich shop with loads of charm!

I ate here long long time ago and decided to give it a try again. I’m a sucker for hot sandwiches so I got some roast beef sandwich called the Iron Horse(I think that was the name?) It was way too mustardy and rather overpriced. For almost $ 7, I’d expect drinks and chips or a side but got just the sandwich. I thought it would at least come with pickles?! Sigh.

I went to the Loose Caboose for lunch with friends. They said the place was great, so I knew I had to try it. Maybe I need new friends. This place is a yawn.
