Came to Sangs for a birthday breakfast for my cousins birthday. The inside is unassuming but the food is classic, delicious diner food. The service is fast and friendly, at least during the week. I had the Roman scramble with hash browns and a biscuit… It was filling and hit the spot. The reason why I didn’t give it five stars is because that two of the five orders came out incorrectly but they corrected them quickly.

Was not expecting such a huge dissapointment from this place. A lot of people have recommended it and it was packed with people around lunch time on a Sunday. We waited an hour and a half total to be seated and to recieve our food. Booths/tables sat empty after partrons were leaving and they were not getting cleaned up. The food was horrible to say the least. Were were a party of three and all three plates were bad. I ate most of the pre-packaged saltine crackers sitting on the condiment tray, I recommend those! Drinks were served in paper coffee cups. The couple sitting next to us received one plate, took one bite and left the restaurant. They were not pleased. This place is in a prime location and really needs some revamping. Call Robert Irvine!

I’ve been coming here since I was little and about 5 years ago the service and food has gone down. Waitresses are a mess they can’t and don’t attend to customers. The food is nasty, the potatoes are old and the food tastes like its old. I’m very disappointed with Sangs, because at one point it was my family’s breakfast spot every Saturday. I don’t think I’ll ever come back! GROSSGROSSGROSS!

Chicken and waffles! In Oldtown! Me and mom are polar opposites when it comes to dining out. She prefers homestyle comfort food, while I like anything I can’t cook at home — and it should be healthy… But I can’t always have my way so I planned an outing at Sang’s. Whoa! The menu is HUGE. Serving breakfast all day with all the usual suspects of a local diner(omelets, benedicts, pancakes), with hearty additions like lambchops or beef short ribs or pork chops with eggs, or my current favorite ground beef patty &2 eggs which comes with mushrooms, onions and gravy. Too many lunch items to list but Corned Beef and Cabbage, Salmon Fish n Chips, and Roast Turkey appear as stand-outs. We came for the first time in December and have returned nearly every weekend since. It’s a great place to become a regular as the service is just downright friendly. Today one server yelled out«hi Tonia» over the counter. An old friend came to hug my mom, a do-rag donning gentleman picked up a to-go order and a lone diner was absorbed in her paperback at the bar while the guy next to her checked out a game on tv. Me? I am updating my Unilocal review using their free wi-fi. When I’m ready to bite the bullet and eat healthy, they have veggie omelets and burgers, whole wheat pancakes, salmon with brown rice. We went nearby to brunch one weekend and spent twice as much without being able to take home leftovers so Sang’s will continue on as a fave Saturday hang-out.

Third time was not a charm. The coffee was weak, brisket was flavorless and the hash browns tasted like they were freeze dried. This is our third attempt in hopes that the previous two visits were just a hiccup. Waste of $ 31.

This place is great. They’ll split any breakfast for $ 1(splitting the main dish but doubling the fresh fruit side). Good special and the pancakes are he bomb! Try the Reece’s Cup pancakes!

First time eating here with a group of 6 and our waitress Sara was awesome. Very nice and attentive. The food portions are definitely huge! You can customize your meal however you please. No restrictions or excuses. The food was very well cooked and the pricing is amazing for the generous amount of food they pack onto your plate! Highly recommend this establishment to anyone whether you’re from Salinas or you’re a tourist. Plenty of dining space for all! Definitely, a satisfying meal and experience.

This place is pretty good for breakfast I usually get something new every time. Every dish on the menu is prepared fresh and will leave you satisfied. And just incase you didnt know John Steinbeck used to eat here which is pretty cool if you like to read books.

Had biscuits and gravy but honestly Dennys is way better — just my opinion. Kids weren’t digging their pancakes either. Service was good, friendly staff.

My family gathered here in hope to have a nice breakfast. But after waiting over a hour an a half for our order and watching everyone else get there food we finally got our food. When we asked the owner what took so long and was he going to do to rectify the situation? He said if we dont pay for our food then we can leave and don’t come back. The owner was rude and disrespectful plus we never got our full order and I could have gotten better food at Jack in the Box’s.

Large portions. Friendly service. A bit of history. Reasonable price. Across the street from the National Steinbeck Center.

Good breakfast place more for locals. When First Awakenings wait is an hour +, walk down the block and have a great breakfast here. It’s a bit hoaky décor and the kitchen can be a little slow, but they put out solid food.

Corned beef hash from a can? Really? Who serves that? Well, this place does. Very disappointing breakfast.

After hearing some good things about this place I wasn’t too impressed. The food wasn’t anything special, it was okay. To me the restaurant felt a little bit dingy and dirty. You could see a bit into the«kitchen»(I use that word lightly here) and again it seemed unkempt to me. I think the ambiance of this place brought my overall impression down. I don’t think I would return here but hey give it a shot, you might like it.

Been coming here with my daddy ever since I was a little girl. BEST, let me repeat myself, BESTCOUNTRYFRIEDSTEAKANDEGGSINTHEWORLD. I usually order it just like how my daddy orders it– country fried steak with over easy eggs, rice and gravy and toast with a cup of hot cocoa topped with whipped cream on the side(that’s my perk, not my dad’s). This place brings back memories and never fails to satisfy my tastebuds. Service as well as cleanliness of the restaurant has gone down a bit through out the years but that won’t stop me from eating here. Definitely give it a try!

One of the best diners I’ve been to. They’re friendly, helpful, and attentive. The gals that work there are full of energy! Love their omelets… Yummm!

I wanted to try a new diner for breakfast. So we came upon Sang’s Café in downtown Salinas. The sign says John Steinbeck ate in that building at one point back in time. The food was decent. However, my biggest concern was the cleanliness of this place. One of the chef walks around with his dirty chef outfit, with matching dirty sneakers, looking out the window in between cooking. They had salsa in each table. But as a newcomer, I thought it was not good to have guests arrive with salsa waiting. I didn’t know if it was half eaten already. I had a shrimp scramble eggs with green onions and gravy topped rice. The shrimps were small, the gravy was your average brown gravy. The rice was dry. One of my daughters had a ham & cheese omelete with hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were actually good, and the omelet not bad. My other daughter had the rancher’s omelet with fruit. Omelet looked fine. For fruit though they had only cut pieces banana, and small grapes. Overall, a fail for me. But seems like they have tons of regulars who don’t mind the scenery and come back for the just okay food.

This morning had a huge portion breakfast at sangs café it is a must stop at destination! The omlets are fabulous! ! Omlets cheasy and jam packed full of made to order your way to protection! The ham sausage n bacon is yummy! Endless coffee. The waitress was fast and on the move but she never left us hanging. Biscuits and gravy were a side order however was so largely portied that could of been my whole meal!!! Usually when I do like dennys and say eggs over easy the egg white is still grotesquely runny. However not the case today!
