Was seated quickly and came in after 1 in the afternoon and had a late breakfast. It came fresh and warm, my daughter finished her plate which was exciting. She had half a waffle and i had a regular strawberry waffle. She had an orange juice and i had coffe, the tab came out to $ 20.73 which to me was inexpensive and if i would have came here on a weekday my daughters meal would have been free.

We have been coming here for years for breakfast. I usually have the chicken fried steak breakfast, or might have a change of pace and have the ham, sausage or… breakfast. I like my eggs sunny-side up «hard». It is a hit or miss proposition in this restaurant. Finally I have learned to choose over-easy. Waiters/waitresses are friendly and we have gotten to know a couple. My last breakfast here, around two weeks ago, was one of the best and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Don’t know if they have a new cook or if I just happened to hit it on a good day. They do ok on the waffles, which they are obviously known for, but I have tasted better. An average«go too» restaurant if there are waiting lines at Awakenings and IHOP.

If you want bland, flavorless food, this place is for you. This place is disgusting. We ordered the steak and eggs and some waffles. I’ve had hospital food that tastes better than this. There was no flavor to either of the dishes and the waffles were soggy. If I could give this place –5 stars I would. Talk about a waste of time and money. Go to Denny’s. Or if you want real waffles, First Awakenings.

Good, simple, moderate quality food. Service could be better. The place is kept clean. Typically make it here 3 – 4 times a year. Think they’ve undergone new ownership recently.

It was good, as expected. The thing that stood out the most were the great waffles!

This place use to be one of my favorite places to get breakfast. I always loved their great tasting waffles of which they are famous for. But the reason now that I can only give this place two stars is because the last time I went there with my boyfriend, I was double charged on my credit card. Sadly, I did not realize that until much later that day when I checked my receipt. I planned to go back to the restaurant and tell them but then I misplaced my receipt. If by chance I ever go back there again for breakfast, I will pay with cash only so they cannot pull that on me again. But then, I doubt I will ever go back there. Pros: –Great tasting waffles Cons: –beware when using your credit card– don’t get double charged!

Just got out of school and decided to come here for lunch, had quick chitchat with the owner(Hans) sat me down and asked what’s the soup of the day. It was vegetable beef, and then waitress came over(Christina) I guess I was in a protein mood because with that; I’d order a cheeseburger, first off the soup had a perfect spice and flavor. The cheeseburger here, you could tell was real meat, unlike the fast food places where are you taste the fat and sometimes the gristle. The only thing I had added to the cheeseburger with some black pepper to it then the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions; no mustard or ketchup. I left nothing behind, it was a perfect size meal, no doubt, that’s why I’ll always will keep coming back for the great food and awesome service.

Eggs were icky, although kids like stawberry waffles, not worth the price and food not great.

At first the size portion seemed small, I had 2 eggs, 4 sausage and hash browns and a pancake. I was hungry so it seems liked a small portion. I was wrong, it was perfect and the food was great! In our party we also had Strawberry and Chocolate Chip waffles, again they were very good. High quality food at a great price. We’ll be back for sure!

Nothing special about this place, I could have done a better breakfast at home for less than $ 30 for 2 people. My food(omelette) had no flavor, biscuit with gravy was nasty and dry. They messed up my daughters waffle, Waiter forgot wifes scrambled eggs and sausage, waiter went back to get it she could not find them, somebody told her to check the microwave, which made me beleave that they microwave some of their food here. Yea, not a good experience.

I had an omelette and it was good, but prices are a little ridiculous… especially for the orange juice. Omg.

I want to rate this place higher because of sentimental reasons for my late grandfather and the staff has always been really nice, but their food is pretty mediocre. If you go stick more with the breakfast fare instead of the lunch menu. The bacon pecan waffle is my favorite and the enchilada omelet is surprisingly good. Unfortunately for them, they have a lot of good local competition.

The waffle shop is a so so place for breakfast in salinas. I think that whoever deemed it «the best breakfast place of 2010»(according to their framed certificates) was either high when they came in or has poor tastebuds or something! Honestly it was just okay, ihop status. Yes portions were big, however so were the prices!(30 bucks for two people?!) I could have eaten elsewhere with far better food! The hash browns were bland and needed salt(perhaps I’m a salt freak) and the waffles were just okay nothing to write home about. Our waitress was attentive and came to the rescue often when it came to filling my coffee up and asking if everything was okay.(It was almost obsessively that she came over, but its better to have an overly attentive waitress than one who gives two craps about you!) I think that if you seriously need a waffle fix, you might as well go to ihop or Denny’s with these prices, unless you’re willing to shell out a pretty penny.(Seriously bro’s don’t do it.)

Wish I had read the reviews before trying out the place. My 3 egg omelet was not only flat and rubbery, it was apparently made using quail eggs. I have never seen such a tiny omelet. I’ve uploaded a pic of the nasty, black avocado slices. The country gravy tasted like raw flour and the biscuits were quite dense and pasty. The service was ok but not great. Undeniably the worst breakfast I’ve had.

I don’t know what everyone is talking about, saying that there’s roaches, food’s bad, service, horrible etc. I come here at least once a week with family, and it’s never a disappointment. Our server, Kristy, is not only attentive, but friendly. Their waffles are delicious, especially their chocolate chip waffles that they make as a specialty for us, even though it’s not on the menu. That’s true customer service people. I’d recommend this place, it’s good, it’s affordable, and great waitresses. End of story.

Wonderful country-style cooking. Excellent waffles. Bacon cooked perfectly. Over-hard egg was the best I’ve had in restaurants. Kids eat free M-F(1 free meal/adult order) My kids enjoyed their meals too! Searched high and low for roaches and found none at all.

First of all kudos to the waitresses working there on Thanksgiving morning making sure hungry out of towners got fed breakfast. That’s a whole extra star. Good, friendly service. Unfortunately, the cook did NOT take the day off. Food bland and tasteless. Coffee just hot, dirty water. Hell, even the syrup was blah. Had to go back to motel room to see if taste buds were still there. Something wrong here.

I was born and raised in Salinas so I came back to town and took my Father out to breakfast. We ordered eggs, bacon and home-style potatoes. The potatoes were okay and how can you mess up eggs. We must of waited 40 minutes after ordering to receive our food than she forgot to bring me my dry toast. So I remind her and she comes back 10 minutes later with my toast slathered in butter. Oh well, I was done with my breakfast already. So I’m pretty sure I won’t be returning. will go to First Awakenings in S. Main.
