It just so happened that two times coming back from Lake San Antonio for training/racing we stopped here for food. This place is average for Mexican food, well maybe above average. They have menudo on the weekends, which I love, and its decent. You have all the stuff that you need: Oregano, cilantro, onion, lemon. It comes with pig feet if you wish(yes I wished). The al pastor taco was good as well, nice flavor and made simple like it should be. My buddy got a chicken burrito, which he said had good flavor, and a fish taco, which looked like something from a gringo nightmare. Everything looked the real deal except that dang fish taco… it came with shredded cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Evidently that was the idea of some random Midwesterner visitor or something(I’m speculating, of course). They serve beer as well and so I had to have a Modelo especial… well because it goes well with menudo, and it helps to dull the pain of a weekend of training. Plus a star for the friendly family feel.

I made a pit stop here during a road trip down the 101. The place is definitely a hole in the wall which isn’t a bad thing because most of my favorite taquerias look worse than this. I ordered a chicken burrito but what I got was a tex-mex/fajita style wrap with sauteed chicken, onions and bell peppers. eww. I like tex-mex, but just not in my burrito. Sorry. I’m used to San Diego burritos with meat, cheese, guac and salsa… it’s that simple. Oh ya, and it was super salty. I didn’t finish it, which is a rarity. ay caramba.

Woo hoo! First Review! The Great: Their horchata. It’s so damned creamy! The Good: Carne asada sopes and carnitas quesdilla The Bad: The super quesadilla needs more fillings(Like La Costa) The Ugly: There isn’t really anything bad enough to be deemed ugly. That’s it. Bye-bye!
