My husband and I love Sonic! We always make it a point to drop in when we head south from the Bay Area.
Today, a car-​hop named Isaiah gave us our food and he was the most friendliest I’ve ever met. Rolled up to the car and introduced himself with a great smile. Repeated our order. Made sure we had everything we need. In fact, he came prepared in case we would need any extra sauces. Very efficient. I’ve worked in the food industry from 14 years old till I was 27. I’m very impressed. This guy has a great attitude! He needs to be recognized!

Okay so I went through drive thru around 9:30? And the cashier was extremely rude. I asked her if I can have jalapeño poppers and she was like
«That’s not what they are called but okay» and when I asked her for some ketchup at the window she literally thru them at me. And to end this, MY FOOD WAS COLD

Wish I can give this place no stars!!! Halfway through my breakfast burrito I see mold!!! DISGUSTING!

Visited sonics this pass week and the cheeseburgers were good but we got one of the blasts, the first time it didn’t have anything in it. so we took it back, second time it was literally melted like water, the 3^rd time it was still melted but I was like whatever and just threw it away.
Pretty pricey so I just expect it to be good.

Fast and friendly service! I would recommend this place, will definitely stop by again if in the area. My only complaint would be their lack of cool indoor seating area. Great value of their food.

Don’t Bother — really a bad experience. Save your money & go elsewhere.
Went here and pulled into the parking spot overlooking Davis. Why this was located in the KMart parking lot is beyond me but hadn’t been to a Sonic since we were in Arizona a couple years back on vacation. Speakers were okay but the person taking the order knew nothing about the Sunday special.
Two of us ordered chili dogs, a corn dog, fries and soft drink. Food came separately in little bags not all put together, the fries weren’t with the order, the chili was on the bun under the frank — couldn’t even see it. Told the server who told us that’s how a chili dog is made. Really??? Sent them back to be redone. Chili could be out of a can — and not very generous & I have eaten chili dogs all over the US.
No tray at the window — why else do I need a carhop if you aren’t going to do this 50’s style? Food was not very good — no better than Der Weinerschnitzel and the corn dog was okay. Not a great value except for the opening special. Have not been back & not sure we plan to go again.
Drove by the other day and their business is way off — a sure sign that others agree; this isn’t up to the standards of other Sonics, nor other fast food joints either. I don’t want to come here and order food to be eaten on my lap — I want a tray for window car service, or else I’d be sitting outside for the 10 days a year when it’s sunny in Salinas and not blowing hair in my mouth.
Unless many changes are made, this place will close up; then we can hope that something better — Ruby Tuesday or Red Robin — will come to town.

— I visited this Sonic for the first time ever Monday, at about 9pm. The place was not busy. I ordered the double cheeseburger, fries and a Strawberry-​something-​or-​other drink to go.
— Immediately upon leaving the parking lot I ate a couple of fries. They were terrible. They were barely warm and were definitely Old.
— When I arrived home a few minutes later, I ate the double cheeseburger and found it tasted pretty good!
– The Strawberry drink I ordered was… odd. It tasted like a bad 7-​Up with a few sliced strawberries in the bottom… yawn…
— Perhaps I’ll give this place another try another time, though I probably will go to In ‘N Out Burger first…

Long time resident of Salinas here, so when a new place opens up everyone is thrilled as it doesn’t happen often. Sonic opened up a few months ago and I wanted to wait until the «newness» wore off before I gave it a try. Well, I should have never even tried it. What a waste of $ 15 for 2 Chicago Dogs, a lime slush and a Dr. Pepper. I had heard good things from my friends around the country that their Chicago Dogs were awesome, well not this Sonic. I’ve had better Chicago Dogs from the corner vendor on Sanborn and Market St. Now THAT guy knows how to make a hot dog. Anyway, the 2 stars are for the young man who explained how to order and how fast we got our food. The lime in the lime slush was fresh. The hot dog was puny and cold. No flavor. Unless I hear that they have improved, I won’t return until I need a slush… they did have a nice selection of flavors. *sigh* Another Salinas restaurant bites the dust.

Great service. We brought our special ed class. Our server Adrian was patient, polite and super helpful.

Unfortunately, I didn’t like it! Sonic is a perfect name, it’s like space (intergalactic) food. My 13 year old daughter likes it though.

Never had their burgers before. We went the first week they were open. Waited 30 minutes in the long drive thru line. The burger was dried out. Put together sloppy. McDonald’s taste better than this place and a lot cheaper. You would think a new place would want to get it right because word of mouth gets around quickly. Went back 3 weeks later to try their hot dogs. Only 3 cars in drive thru line. They never have a long line anymore even at lunch time. So word must have gotten out. So places never learn. Hot dogs were good. Also tried their bbq wings which were burnt covered in bbq sauce.

Don’t eat out often, but campared to others the price was high. the burger was good but doesn’t hold together in the bag very well and some lettuce sank to the bottom. If you order in the parking spot, I would expect them to give you a car tray instead of packing the food to go. The service was polite and friendly. Good milk shakes, but too small and fancy with whipped cream and a cherry. The food improved on a recent visit. If you order the economy junior menu in the small writing, the hamburgers taste great. You can really TASTE the meat without lettuce spilling in your lap. I also recommend the excellent coffee. great taste and doesn’t make you feel hungry. It was even worth ordering by itself!

I came here to see what all the hype was about. Honestly, it was just a regular burger. There was nothing special about it. Also, I tried the Nerds shake that I’ve heard was delicious, but it was way too sweet, you couldn’t even taste the Nerds. It was just one big sour/​sweet mess. The drive thru line took forever, and the bread I got from ordering a number 4 because soggy as I drove home.

Decided to check this out with my brother. We got the Caesar chicken sandwich which tasted nothing like Caesar and featured pale vegetables. The tots were the best part, hot and crispy but not enough to make me come back. Our order was correct so thats nice. This place seems to be best for it’s «something for everything» sortof menu for the most derisive and indecisive groups. It also seems to be ridiculously busy, maybe that is just the novelty and newness (which admittedly is what brought us) but it isn’t worth the wait.

Woo hooo! A Sonics in Salinas. What a treat. Real old fashioned burgers, car service with roller skates and a smile. Love it.

Was given the advise not to go until they have worked out the grand opening kinks– should have listened!
Went on Sunday late afternoon craving some ice cream. There is a staging area, one line for DT and one for stalls. Thinking that the DT should move along steady I opted for that line. BIG MISTAKE! Waited in a line to get in the DT for almost 20 minutes. They do a great job of directing and staging customers however once they move cars along no one ensures that the cars waiting for a stall actually goes to the stalls. This results in those cars getting into the DT line which is what had us waiting so long. The ordering process was fast and we received our order at a decent pace.
All of the tots and popcorn chicken were dumped into the bag not placed properly as they should have been. When we asked for a cup carrier we were given attitude as though she needed authorization from a manager. We will give it some time after they have worked out the kinks and see what happens. I hope they can get it together or we will not return and just give our business to the Gilroy location since they are more put together.

Foods not good service is horrible if they wanna keep customers they have to get rid of the girl in the front window she’s horrible only thing going for them is the shakes will really think twice before returning

We tried to come here on Christmas Eve at lunch time and it was packed. No stalls to park in so we left. When we got here today it was pretty much the same thing, although they had some employees directing traffic this time. One girl was pretty rude directing and we almost left but then a stall opened up.
I had a Number 7 Footlong Quarter Pound Coney dog with onions. They give you a choice or grilled or raw onions and I got the raw. It was good but definitely need more chili on the hot dog. I got it with onion rings which were slightly sweet and had a hint of vanilla, kind of different but not bad. They forgot the onions on my first dog so I asked for another and they brought it right out.
Hubby had their Number 2 Supersonic Double Cheeseburger. I had a taste of this and it was good. It came with some shoe string fries, they were a little dry but had the right amount of salt.
All in all not bad just crowded. We’ll be back to try their desserts.
