I wish I could give this a 3.5 since it wasn’t all bad. We made reservations for the outside patio. The quality of the food for the price was inconsistent. The tuna de gallo was not what we expected. It seemed like they opened two cans of $ 1 tuna and mixed pico de gallo in it. The tuna was dry. The chips were good and crunchy. The calzone was good, big and jammed with the toppings. They weren’t skimpy with the toppings at all. I opted for the mixed green salad. I was pleasantly surprised. Love the combo of greens and fruit. My boyfriend ordered Guillermo’s combo pizza. He was very disappointed. The bell peppers were not cooked. The pizza was cold. Overall, half of the order was good and the other half not so. Our waitress was great, but she sure looked frazzled. It looked like she had too many tables.

This place and I have a love hate relationship. They have delicious food but I hate the long long long long wait for everything here. For seats, for drinks(outside ordering area is dreadful), for food etc. I waited 45 minutes to order and get food and then they bring mine and my moms food and my little boys food STILL hadn’t came out. Ridiculous! Do not bring out an adults food and not a child’s food! On top of it the child’s plate was way smaller portion. The food was good but the raviolis were so hard. I couldn’t eat them. We did mention this to the server and they gave us a gift card for next time. I haven’t been back since then to use it. They take way too long to Come on my lunch break even though I work two minutes away. I wish it wasn’t like that because I would come more often. Their pasta salad with pineapple and spinach is the best.

We’re the restaurant right now with my family. Well it’s usually been a wonderful experience since we found this great hideaway downtown. We have brought business partners, friend and family to frequently dine here.. Today our plates of chicken Alfredo and chicken picatta were both the same dishes but with different names. The plates were at best barely Luke warm. The chicken Alfredo and chicken picatta tasted identical. We did complain to waiter who didn’t care one bit about our concerns and we were charged for the lousy dishes anyway. So to say our frequent business lunches and family evening dinning will find other food establishments that at least care about the customer concerns.

The calamari and the meat lasagna were nothing special. My husband loved the chicken parmigiana. I really only give it 3 stars because we were sat inside in the 1836 room and it was hot. They definitely need central air in that room, especially if they seat families with babies.

Pros Awesome beef empanadas Pretty tasty salads shrimp Alfredo was good Velvet cheesecake was average Cons customer service needs a lot work. I was not greeted when I initially arrived to pick up my order. The phone system sucks. My wife rang 22 times before they picked up and the line was awful. The meatballs were not cooked enough and tasted too much of basil

I truly enjoyed this restaurant! My husband and I were on the San Antonio river walk looking for some good pizza. I came across this place and decided to give it a try. It’s not on the river walk but it’s definitely worth getting off of the beaten path! We loved the pizza that we ordered. The service was great and the atmosphere was quaint. When we visit San Antonio again, we will be back!

As others have stated service was lacking. Had to get the servers attention, who was sitting in a nearby room, to ask for a refill. Food was OK, not anything to WOW about! Oh and if you are not an alcohol drinker the drink menu is VERY short. With water, Mexicane cola, and organic fountain drinks…

I absolutely LOVE this place the food never disappoints and happy hour is awesome! The service is also really good every person I have encountered there is friendly and polite. It does take a bit to get seated but it’s worth it, there’s a bar outside so go have a drink while you wait. The only thing that bothered me were the flies! There were so many of them and we were sitting inside. I didn’t like them flying around my delicious pizza. Other than that I love this place and I will definitely be back!

As always Guillermo’s never disappoints. We’ve een here a few times, until now I have never posted about it. My wife and I love it. Everything we have ever tried is just awesome. Everything from the salad to the entrée is just pure deliciousness. We highly recommend this place to anyone wanting awesome food served in a great environment. Ask for the salad with bow tie pasta. You won’t regret it.

Went back to have a late lunch. We sat in the patio again and were waited on pretty quickly by Sam. We ordered beers and tuna de gallo. We were pleased with the food and the service. We then ordered a small margherita pizza and the Guillermo’s pita. Botha were awesome, especially the Guillermo’s pita which has beef fajita meat, chorizo, onions lettuce and cheese. This was what the waiter recommended and he got it right! Way better experience this time and we’ll definitely come back. Came in for dinner and there was a 20 min wait… no problem. Went to order a drink outside and the bartender did not acknowledge us for 10 minutes despite the fact that it’s only a little window. I finally spoke up and she took my order for a Cuba Libre which they have on their drink board. She was being an @$$ about making a drink. I saw her pour a splash of Sailor Jerry in a Collins glass full of ice and finish it with coke. Then she charged me $ 9.50. Being the good sport that I am, I took the drink. While she was getting my change I tasted it and the coke was flat… and there was not even a hint of rum flavor. I told her and she argued that she provided a full pour but then said she’d add to it. She didn’t. Anyway we decided to take our business elsewhere this time. Gonna take a break from here.

I’ve never tried anything here that I didn’t LOVE. This place has some of the best Italian food the city has to offer. It puts chain restaurants like Olive Garden and Corinos to shame! Their pasta and spinach salad is delicious and the calzones are huge! This place is crowded for lunch so come early and they are open for dinner. Yum!!!

Had such high hopes for this placed based on prior reviews! Unfortunately that didn’t happen when I ate there today. Firstly the service wasn’t good. I received my salad about 10 minutes AFTER I got my entrée. I even repeatedly asked about the status of it and no priority was given to it. In what world does that happen. Basically defeating the whole purpose of offering the salad. They attributed it to having new staff. Not acceptable. Secondly, I ordered the«jumbo shrimp» fettuccine Alfredo which were not jumbo at all! They were average sized shrimp at best. This amounts to false advertising in my view. Overall I was not impressed with this establishment. A restaurant that didn’t live up to the hype! Response to Guillermo: First of all, my review of your establishment was not personal and was based upon my encounter that I had there today. I noted the lack of service and size of the shrimp because that is what I in fact encountered. That is the purpose of this site, for everyday people to share their experiences. On this particular occurrence it was not a favorable one. Further, your explanation of the dollar situation is not accurate and a feeble attempt to deviate away from the real issue of the poor service which has been well documented previously on Unilocal.Perhaps if you spent more time managing your employees and less time responding to Unilocal comments the service would be better. Unilocal is for people to have a voice and mine will not be drowned out by your unwillingness to take constructive criticism. Best of luck in your future endeavors, from my standpoint you will need it! — RRM

One of the most authentic Italian restaurants I’ve eaten at in San Antonio. The food is always so fresh and deliciously cooked with loads of flavor. I’ve been here a few times and I have never been disappointed. Each time I have left full, overly satisfied and always wanting more. Great staff, cute scenery. It’s really a great place to grab some lunch or have a delicious dinner w your significant other. Highly recommend.

My daughter and I were Downtown to check out«The Saga» presentation at San Fernando Cathedral this past weekend, and had a few hours to spare before the show began. We both had not eaten since breakfast and we were definitely hungry! I had been here for a Unilocal Elite event and I just had to introduce her to it. We were lucky to get just about the last outside table on their patio. It was breezy and a great evening to be sitting outside, It took a while for me to decide what to get. .. much different than my daughter. She new in a relatively short while what she was going to get(Italian Ham & Pepperoni sandwich). We ordered our appetizer(Spinach Artichoke dip) while I decided. In fact I was already through with my first glass of Passion Tea before I finally got around to ordering. I think that delicious tea helped quite a bit. I hadn’t had much to drink that day. Our waiter, Juan, was quick to notice I had drunk it fast when I ordered my dinner(Meat Lasagna). He quickly filled my glass again and when he brought us our appetizer, he noticed I had emptied my glass again and made a fun remark about the speed with which I drank it. In fact I said I could use a whole pitcher of it. He said he would get me one and walked up the the outside bar area. My daughter got a good laugh out of my shocked reaction that I might get a huge pitcher of tea to satisfy my thirst. I got up and said I was just kidding, afraid I would get that pitcher of tea placed at the table. He said he was getting me a smaller glass pitcher to refill my glass when I was through with the second one he had brought. I returned to the table relieved and thankful. When he brought the pitcher it was one that held between 1 ½ and 2 glasses of tea. Perfect! When the Spinach Artichoke dip was brought to the table, we both commented and how great it looked and both got out our phones to take pictures. The cheese, sauce and toppings made it a picture perfect shot, along with a great toast on the bread sticks. They were golden on the outside while still leaving softness on the inside. We immediately dug in and had a fun time with the almost comical stretching of the cheese. If I’d had a pair of scissors I would have used that, but had to make do with breaking the cheese stretch with my fingers. Ha! We were about two thirds done with this(there was so much of it) when our salads arrived. I suggested the Mixed Green salad because I remembered it from the Unilocal event. The awesome collection of ingredients(pineapple, cranberries, almonds, tomatoes, olives feta cheese…) in combination with their House dressing made the salad as enjoyable as any other part of the meal. Only here can the salad be as much a star as the main entrée or appetizer. I scarfed it down and was just about finished when our food arrived. Her sandwich was big and filled with delicious looking ingredients. The focaccia bread that made the sandwich had a great flavor that complimented the Italian Ham and pepperoni. She really enjoyed it, but was kind of full from the appetizer and salad, so she ended taking part of it home. My meat lasagna was beautiful to look at. The duo of marinara gave it a look I hadn’t seen before in a lasagna. The cheese was just as stringy, fun and good as in the appetizer. The lasagna itself had a slightly firm texture, which I personally like with the meat filling being good, but not great. It still gets two thumbs up from me. Overall, an enjoyable dining experience in a great outdoor atmosphere, and a thoroughly enjoyable introduction to Guillermo’s for my daughter. I’m looking forward to many more visits to try new, and I’m sure delicious, dishes.

This place is delicious. I did some work at the hospital around the corner and always came here for lunch! Food is amazing. Their burgers are juicy. The pastas are tasty and well seasoned and their house dressing is the best! I actually buy some on the side sometimes. Occasionally some classmates and I would order the xlarge pizza and it was great price for 5 toppings! Also, their deserts… amazing too! Love this place and the owner is hilarious.

Fantastic! ! Huge portions… I had the turkey, bacon and avocado half sandwich with the Caesar side salad. My sandwich was too big to finish, but boy was it good. Love the selection of teas as well. Great Sevier had us in and out for lunch. Oh, and grab one of the cookies!

While this place has a nice outdoor space, I doubt I will come back. I ordered a sausage and spinach calzone(apparently calzones are popular here?). It was a very generous portion, but the last time I checked, sausage is cooked like ground beef… Like on a pizza. Apparently, Guillermo thinks that Polska kielbasa is sausage?!? When I asked my server if it was sausage, he said they’re changing meats and this is what sausage is. Um. No. It’s not.

This was my special spot, love their spinach dip and pizza. I am so sadden that I won’t be able to return because I am so disgusted by the lack of common sense in sanitation. While enjoy our dinner I watch a huge winged roach walk around the floor! Gross. But I also can understand bugs happen. Well, dinner is ruined especially since the giant roach eluded death by husbands foot, I was done. So here’s where the reason I won’t come back again. We stand up as I’m just ready to pay and go, and I notice the kitchen and prep area, what I find revolting, is the door is wide open to the outdoors elements. This door is open for bugs, rodents and whatever else chooses to make a visit to where your food is cooked, prepared and stored. Upon walking out, I also notice the back of the kitchen door is also open. Where dishes are washed. I don’t know about others, but I don’t plan on paying $ 15 a plate to share my food with the bugs. This is so unsanitary. Most people keep their doors close at home to prevent bugs and rodents from coming in, here they welcome them. Gross.

Good decoration and outdoor seating. The 10 dollar margarita was alot of ice and small. The lasagna was hot but too saucy and cheesy for me. The garlic bread was sizable but too much butter oil. My friend liked her chicken alfredo. The staff was nice. It seems clean.

I’m happy with Guillermo’s – it’s a unique offering in the neighborhood, and the environment is equally young and warm. The beer prices though… Best value for drafts is $ 8.50 for 24 ounces. And that’s hard to concede.

For once, Unilocal finally comes through and finds us a great restaurant close-by. We wanted Big Lou’s because of the Man vs. Food episode but traffic was insane. So, Unilocal found us Guillermo’s and it was great! They said it would be 30 – 45 minutes but we were seated in less than 10. The outside patio is so cute and had outside heaters on. My pizza was great and the top shelf margarita was. Will go back again for sure!

This was our second visit to Guillermo’s first time for lunch. The day was beautiful so we decided to sit outside on their patio and soon thereafter the menus were brought to us. We have heard good things about their pizza from other Unilocal members and felt we should give it a try. We ordered the large 5 topping pizza where you get to pick the five toppings from an extensive list of topping options. We selected for our toppings pepperoni, garlic, bacon, sausage and sundried tomatoes. Talk about piling on the toppings the pizza came full of every single topping that we requested in a correct and balanced amount no one specific topping overpowered the other toppings on the pizza and the pizza sauce complimented the flavors. We will continue going back to Guillermo’s for their outstanding pizza and look forward to trying some of the other tasty things on their menu.

We came back to Guillermo’s for lunch. It was a gorgeous day, so we sat on the patio. Our server, Joseph, was friendly and brought our drink order right away. We decided to order a pizza since we heard so much about it. .and we weren’t disappointed! We made our own and chose pepperoni, sausage, crushed garlic, sun dried tomatoes and bacon on a thin and crispy crust. The toppings were fresh and plentiful and the crust was crispy(although I prefer über-crispy crusts) enough to give it a good crunch. The 18 inch pizza is large enough to feed 3 and have enough leftover for later! Well be back!

Came here new to the area hoping for some good Italian. Had dinner and thought it was pretty good, «next time I’ll try the pizza.» Called to order a pizza today(they deliver) was put on hold for 27 minutes only to have the other end not care. Food is mediocre, service is offending. Unfortunately, I can’t comment on the pizza.

I love a good patio! Who doesn’t? It’s always good to find that perfect spot where you can enjoy the perfect(and sometimes crazy) Texas weather and have good food and drinks with friends… and yes people! Guillermo’s is that perfect place. I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of bread in general… I think is that kind of food, that just takes away too much space in your stomach and keeps you from eating other delicious stuff. BUT I’ve finally found the butter to my bread(or the other way around). The bread that they use in their subs is buttery and perfectly seasoned. They make it fresh EVERYDAY and use it for their sandwiches… is totally mind blowing! And you have to try their Alfredo tomato pasta! It’s so creamy and delicious… you gotta trust me on this one! But what really made my night, wasn’t their delicious pasta or decadent bread… it was their salsa… yes! You heard me right I have to start by saying that all my friends know, that they key to my heart is… a good salsa. And ooohhh my!!! Guillermo’s won my heart and soul! They have this amazing Chipotle salsa which goes perfect with EVERYTHING! Please order it! It goes perfectly with their subs and empanadas.

Update — Update: I want to thank Steve the GM at Guillermo’s for responding to my review. He personal assured that I received the best service that Guillermo’s had to offer and I really appreciated the peronal service very unexpected. There may have been a misunderstanding with my order, I do apologize for that. But my correct order looks great and taste great with the extra sauce. I am happy to udate my review. The next time I visit San Antonio I will visit Guillermo’s again and I know that I have to order the Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo.

Went back today for late lunch early dinner on the patio. Everything was lovely. You could really see the team pull things together and doing their best to keep things running top notch. From the get go things were buzzing and everyone played their roll well. There was a gentle breeze blowing in the wind and it was a sunny day out in their beautiful patio. I had never been seated outside before and we were the first guest be seated out on the patio that early evening. All around it was a great experience eating there from the arrival to the close out and as always the food was superb. The waitress had suggested a few appetizers and then offered us a lovely drink menu with lots of great selection & on that day it was oh so welcomed. Everything was perfect on this day. I had had a couple of experiences prior to this visit that were less than desirable to say the least. However I am writing this review to say that after trying another time and taking a chance coming here’s again, I am glad I came back. Still some of the best Italian food around and I will certainly be back to enjoy the patio in the fall!

I came here for dinner recently and I had the spinach bow tie pasta salad and chicken marinara sandwich, and my boyfriend had the king guillermo sandwich and the mixed green salad. The food was okay but I’m sticking to the guillermo burger next time we visit. Once we finished our meal it was hard to track down our waiter. We ended up going up to the front and one of the hostesses found our waiter for us. When we were waiting at the front for our check to be processed I was able to peek into the kitchen and saw one of the staff members making multiple salads with no gloves(no utensils or tongs for grabbing the salad items either, just his hands). I’m not sure how that works if someone has food allergies… so if you’re allergic to nuts or other things that they put on their salads I advise not ordering a salad if that’s the way they normally prepare them.

This is one of favorite unique eateries in town. I visited again with two out of town colleagues. I couldn’t resist ordering a pizza & side salad. The hand made pizza was very flavorful & had a blend of spices. The side salad had a variety of ingredients, including pineapple that provided a distinctive taste! My colleagues enjoyed their food, as they watched what other people in the restaurant were eating. The motif & ambience provides a memorable dining experience.
