They were here today at my work for lunch. I had their BBQ Chicken Salad. It was AMAZING! It’s soooo much food and you definitely get your money’s worth. They gave us a generous helping of watermelon on the side and you get a bottled water too. Please keep coming back!

These Mommas are awesome! And the tasty fun foods they serve up are amazing! Was first introduced to Hippie Mommas a few years back at an anniversary party for BBCo and it is always a pleasure to see these ladies show up at other SA events around town. The most recent being at the SoFlo Market. I got in fairly early to beat the crowd and was happy to see Hippie Mommas right out front. For lunch I ordered the Bourbon Chicken Tacos and they hit the spot! Can’t wait to see where Hippie Mommas will pop up next :-) I’m a fan!

The food is delicious! I had the chicken piccata and it came with so much extra food(salad, fruit, and soup), that I was full, which almost never happens with a food truck. Everything was fresh. I will definitely eat here again when this truck comes by.

Last night I had the crab cakes and they were so delicious; I am still thinking about them. Cajun spiced, with an arugula salad– every bite was savory. I also tried the skewered shrimp and pasta. Not as impressive– the shrimp did not taste like gulf shrimp and the pasta was over cooked. The stuffed tomato that came w the crab cakes was stuffed with GREAT grilled veggies. It took an hour to get my order– hence only three stars. Maybe they were overwhelmed by the crowds at Second Saturday?

Hippie Mommas is a quirky gourmet you can always depend on for a delicious bite. They have an ever rotating menu of yummy goodness from pasta-tacos-burgers. They can do it all! We recently hosted a baby shower at Random and the Hippie Mommas did an excellent job accommodating our number of guest, palates and budget! I high recommend to try this truck on your next visit to Random whether it be for your self or your whole crew! The Mommas will take care of you!

When it comes to food trucks I must confess I am always hesitant to try one. I have encountered one of the best meals at one and a couple have made me regret the decision of ever trying one. However, Hippie Momma’s food truck has seriously made rethink my notions and ideas of that style of dining. I was at the So Flo and noticed an aroma emanating throughout the space. It was the intense smell of burgers being grilled. And like Odysseus, who was lured by the Sirens, I was summoned by delicious flavors. The food truck itself fit well within that realm. It is in itself, art. I briefly surveyed the menu, written on a dry wall chalkboard. I also noticed that their prices are pretty reasonable, as truck food fare can sometimes be pricier than if you went to a restaurant. It had the day’s specials such as: panini sandwiches, soups, burgers and sliders. It is very simple and bare bones as one spot can get. I decided on their sliders by default, as they were out of burgers. I placed my order and waited for my food to come out. I have to admit after a few minutes I did grow impatient. But I have to get out of that mindset of expecting food quickly, like the fast food culture has ingrained in all of us. I could see the cookers feverishly molding beef patties to be placed on their grill. The aroma of seasoning and oil made me even more impatient. A few minutes later the server brought over the food and I dug in. It was three small sliders in small bread rolls with potato chips. They were real good, made even better by the small imperfectly shaped patties. When I bit into them I could taste all the seasonings, with the melted cheese supporting the flavor of the burger. I have in the past been to a food truck where it was painfully obvious that their patties were frozen. But here the patties were fresh, which reflects the integrity of this business. In addition the service was great, to match the food served up here. At Hippie Momma’s simple food is made simply well. Next time I see a food truck, particularly this one I will give it a go. Seeing people smile as they cook as though it was a labor of love, are the ones in fact who make the best«Comfort Food.»

This place hits the spot! Talk about comfort food! They’re beyond comfort. They offered these bacon wrapped jalapenos stuffed with Boudan, a rice filled sausage. It was amazing. I’ve never had anything like their boudan, it’s like a piece of cajun heaven. It held together better than any boudan I’ve ever had. The sliders were quite good too, those sweet rolls always get me! Can’t wait to see them out again next time!

After getting a recommendation, I decided to try this place. The bacon wrapped, boudin stuffed japanenos was pretty ingeneous. The japs were mild since they had the seeds and membranes removed. They still packed some faint heat. Maybe it’s just me since I’m used to the head. Regardless, they were pretty good and pretty big. The biggest disappointment was what recommended, the cornbread waffle chili bowl. When I first heard about this, I thought, surely going to be delicious, especially with the cornbread waffle. That, my friends, is almost like a trick on your head — yes, you expect a waffle but a cornbread waffle — let that sink in for a while. The waffle was warm and soft, not crunchy as you would expect the bottom of cornbread to taste-it definitely plays a trick on your head as you bite into it. And yes, the cornbread waffle was great. The chili however, was a total miss. I’ve had some bad chilis but this one was probably the worst. It smelled really good and the texture was there, the flavor just wasn’t there. As matter of fact, that’s one flavor I’ll never forget. The chili has this pretty bad after taste, almost like when you have too much horseradish or wasabi. Yeah, my nostrils were pretty clear after a few bites. Needless to say, I only ate the waffle or part of it. Could not finish the chili-left about ¾s of it. Luckly, the stuffed japs kinda filled me up.

The last place I tried during the Summer 2013 Food Truck Throwdown. This place is both up and down for me. I’m massively in love with the fact they were so friendly, and they even worked with me to let me order a small portion than a whole meal plate, so I could have one of their specialities on the side with a sandwhich I’d already order(from Crazy Carl’s, one truck over from them). I got the Boudin-Bacon wrapped Jalapeño. The boudin was pretty awesome, as was the tender bacon wrap, but I didn’t much like the jalapenos themselves. The spicy tziki sauce, mixed with spices was pretty good on the boudin, too. I’d definitely advise people checking it out. 3 stars for the food, and 4 for being so awesome to work with their customers!

After owning a business in South Houston, the owners of Hippie Momma’s decided to grace San Antonio with their brand of comfort food. My group shared the boudin stuffed jalapenos and the chili in a cornbread waffle. Being from the Texas/Louisiana border, I love anywhere that gives me a taste of home. The boudin was delicious and reminded me of what I ate growing up. The jalapenos were stuffed with boudin and wrapped in what else but bacon, then grilled until the bacon was perfectly done and the peppers were tender. The peppers came served with a queso and what looked like ranch. I was slightly disappointed with the«ranch,» until I discovered that it was in fact tzatziki! Made no sense together, but it was such a perfect combination. Next, we dug into the chili. Topped with cheese, onions, and more jalapenos, then served in cornbread that was quite literally made in a waffle iron, this dish has been popping up in my dreams for days now. The waffle was good on its own, but once softened by the chili, it took on the quality of the best tamale pie you’ve ever eaten. So, so good. Get out and find where they’ll be setting up at or check them out on twitter(@HippieMommas) and get a taste of one of the newest trucks San Antonio has to offer!
