Que bonita! This place is such a great resource in San Antonio’s Hemisfair Park. San Antonio and Mexico have a long, deep and rich history together. Of course, one of the six flags that have flown over Texas is the Mexican flag, so it’s incredibly fitting that we have a cultural institute to honor, preserve and promote the culture. The Institute is a series of art galleries, and an auditorium. They offer a variety of exhibits in various media. The exhibits are usually incorporated with something Mexican, but not always. It’s an interesting way to spend a good hour in the air conditioning to check out what they’re up to. The concerts and lectures given at the auditorium are always interesting. I came to an acoustical guitar concert attended by various high ranking dignitaries, both local and international. In the middle of the guitar set, someone from the outside started banging furiously on the fire exit doors, yelling to be let in. After a good 15 seconds of pounding over the music, someone ran over to open the door and give him the most furious shush I’ve ever seen. It was hilarious. It’s always free to see the exhibits here. You must check this place out. Just look for the giant Olmec heads!
