Neat location and idea. Ill need to try the cereal next time. Cold brew was alright. Latte was a definite no go with burnt milk. But the milk is for the cereal anyway, right?

Have you tried their cold brew coffee? Drooooooling just thinking about it. It’s cool because it comes in a bottle that looks like a beer bottle so when i drink it people look at me like I need help. But I don’t. I just need coffee. If I could describe it in two words, those two words would be: rich and smooth.

Had a pour-over cup of coffee with a shot of horchata… Delish. I chose not to add any sweetener, but if needed there were sweeteners available to add on my own. Hubby wasn’t interested in hanging around, but I will definitely be trying this coffee spot again at my own leisure. Looking forward to taking my teenagers for the cereal bar… yummmm.

I have enjoyed this place in the past. On my last visit I was a bit disappointed. When arrived we were greeted but the vibe felt off because there were two people at the register more interested in each other than to help us. We order and 5 minutes later I had a luke warm latte. I send it back asking for a hot drink. When the drink comes back it comes with the lecture of how to make a latte and to not burn the milk. Thanks barista maybe just warm the cup with hot water first. I didn’t pay 5.50 pls tip to get a story. Just a hot drink.

I’m here because I had a life altering moment with my cereal. I went for an event, Rock the Coffee Shop because I’m familiar with a local band who had a show there. It was super busy, late at night, and had I ordered a cereal mix that they recommended– The Southtown, I believe it was called. When I went up, they were out of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but had chocolate Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Was that okay? I said hell yeah that sounds even better, go ahead. They continued to ask what I liked as they prepared and altered my bowl slightly for the best flavor. I can’t entirely remember what was done. Almond milk, add another cereal, bananas, probably chocolate syrup? It pains me not to remember but I’m going to go back and ask to attempt to recreate it. Anyway, it was GOOD. Really good. Really really good. My buddy took one bite and waltzed off to get his own bowl. So that alone makes this experience A+ for me. Yeah, you could buy your own cereal at home and yadda yadda but they have cute mixes and will switch your cereal game up. You go for the experience. Other tidbits: Through we were there late at night for a show and it was too crowded for this, I did spot some board games that I would love to go back and play while I enjoy another bowl of cereal. Also, I wish I could comment more on the actual coffee portion but I’m not a huge coffee person so I skipped that this time around. Will be back though.

Cute place but my coffee was just not very good. I also can not imagine paying $ 4 for a bowl of cereal.

Pretty good breakfast spot that features original coffee and a Cereal Bar. Attentive staff, games to play, and wifi. Calmed, relaxed, and again: delicious coffee !

Not a bad little place. Kind of homey. I like the concept of a coffee shop and a cereal bar. You can get a small or large cereal bowlful. They have more than a dozen different cereals to choose from. You can basically put together a ‘suicide’ cereal by combing several. They also have several named combos from which to choose. There are hot and cold coffee drinks, flavored and unflavored. Also a variety of teas. No table service. Just walk up to the counter and order. There are magazines to browse on the tables. I found a magazine named ‘Outside ’ which I thoroughly enjoyed. Also board games spread throughout the space. Some comfy seating as well as the typical chairs and wood tables. There is art for sale on the walls. I opted for a small bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats with a caramel cappuccino. Pretty good stuff.

I really, really want to love this place. It’s cute. There are games to play. Magazines to read. But the coffee was really disappointing. Full disclosure, I will often pass judgement before I get my drink if a standard espresso-based coffee only comes with one shot. My latte, with additional shot, came out scorching hot, undrinkably hot for at least 10 – 15 minutes. Tasted watered-down, really weak. And the barista wasn’t sure if he still had whole milk available at 9A on a Monday morning. So… Really cute spot to spend a little time grabbing a snack but don’t come expecting real coffee.

Saw Joseph E Coffee mentioned in the Current — and as a cereal lover, I knew I had to stop by for a bowl. On a Saturday evening, I had a craving. Checked their website and was excited to see that they were open until 10pm. I walked in around 9:20pm, to find the place all to myself. This place has so much right — Free Wifi, open seating, industrial look and feel. I asked the cereal artist his favorite creation for Fruity Pebbles. Out came a bowl with Fruity Pebbles, Lucky Charms, Oops All Berries topped with bananas. It was delicious! I hope that more people catch on to Joseph E Coffee and I’ll see it busy all of the time. My only recommendations would be to have the cereals in a clear display case for all to see instead of just looking at the list.

I really liked this place. My friend and I brought our babies and my 2 year old on a Wednesday morning. We were able to lounge on the couch comfortably. It was quiet and a couple of people were working on their laptops but it was an overall friendly & casual vibe. The toddler loved his bowl of sugary cereal and his cup of milk. I was overwhelmed by the choices of cereals and milks so I got the Southtown– Cinnamon Toast Crunch & French toast crunch with almond milk and strawberries. It was really really good; wish I’d gotten a large. My friend got Cocoa Puffs, Cookie Crisp, and Golden Grahams with Nutella milk(yes you heard that right). The coffee was the highlight of our experience. Mine was cold brew with chocolate coconut milk. My friend got horchata with espresso and heavy cream. It was an indulgent but delicious way to spend the morning. There are so many possible combinations of cereal, milk, and coffee that I just have to come back. The environment is. Rustic? I’m not sure if they’re going for a modern minimalist look or if they’re still under construction. Regardless, I recommend checking it out.

joseph e coffee is the closest coffee shop to where i live. also, it’s directly on my way to work. these two things alone are star-worthy, but the coffee is really terrific and tasty. there’s an array of standard coffee drinks on the menu, as well as a(not-so-secret) secret menu with some extra fancy options. i like, nay, i love the cold brew, and the service is excellent too. it’s been a while since fun cereal was a part of my regular diet, but on the rare occasions i’m craving some count chocula, i know i’ll be headed here to get my marshmallow on. this place is definitely getting it right.

It’s such a cute concept. I’m bummed I didn’t like it so much. The service was great, he was nervous but earnest and nice. The coffee was not great. My Cinnamon Toast Crunch was, however, delicious. I was excited about it and told my husband who said, «we have a big box at home!». Clearly, no one needs that kind of negativity in their life so I immediately got off the phone with him. I did appreciate the variety of milk or almond milk option. The TV was on pretty loud when I got there — on a sitcom at 9am — and when I looked at the worn out couch along the wall I couldn’t help but think this was totally a dream spot for someone who smokes a little wacky tabacky. The chairs were horribly uncomfortable and worst of all the restroom door wouldn’t stay closed. There’s only one restroom located mostly in the kitchen area and the door sprang open every time you tried to shut it. The nice employee said you have to SLAM it! I tried several times and had no luck so I held it closed with one hand while I used the restroom. I can confidently say that was the first time I’ve ever had to do that. I left soon after.

Hello Unilocalers. It has been sometime since a place has caught my attention enough to pop back up and say a few words. Joseph E. Coffee has opened up its doors in south town San Antonio. My love for little coffee shops is almost as strong as my love for Christmas; and lets face it, if only my house had snow, I am very certain it could be mistaken for Santa’s Workshop. So back to the Beans. Joseph E. Coffee uses 100% Arabica Coffee beans to brew their Jo. If you have never had it, well it will surely light a fire in your mouth. Smooth Italian notes will tickle your taste-buds and finish you off with a bang. This shop is so comfy and quiet, filled with the scents of coffee roasting in the air as jazz sings from the speakers. Great place to get some homework accomplished or just surf the web with the shops wifi. The staff is eager, friendly, and knowledgeable not only on their coffee but about bikes and the downtown community. I am so excited to watch this little gem grow. There are beautiful and big plans for its future. Add this to one of your coffee house must sees in the city.

I was hoping for a cool new shop to hang out in and instead got the worst coffee of my life. As stated in other review, they microwave the milk and also use pre ground coffee to make all the drinks. I had to throw my coffee away after a few sips and go to fairview(highly recommend that place). The cereal bar consists of about as many boxes of cereal as I have at my house. Take some pride in your business and spend some money to make a better product.

While the guy who opened the place and made my coffee was friendly, the coffee was among the worst I’ve had in San Antonio. I ordered a mocha, and when it came out barely warm, he put it in the microwave to warm it up(!) Then the coffee was too hot and, when I could finally drink it, I realized it tasted like instant coffee. I actually had to pour it out and stop at another coffee shop on my way to the office. What a waste of $ 4. To top it all off, the design of the place, inside and out, is pretty forgettable. Save your cash and hit up one of the other nearby spots like Halcyon or White Elephant.

We heard about this place from the Current and it wasn’t at all what we expected. Service wasn’t great or helpful, the cereal was just cereal(didn’t get told about any fun combinations or different types of milk), and the coffee was subpar. Hopefully this place gets better with time. We need more independent shops/restaurants in this city.
