Hubby and I stopped by, deciding to try it. When you first walk in, it’s nothing to write home about, but when you take your first bite, your taste buds will sing. I was pleasantly surprised and can’t wait to go back again.

Felt awkward just walking in and staring at their counter filled with delicious looking desserts during lunch time. Hey I am an adult and I do dessert for lunch, dinner or whenever I want. Luckily, I was greeted promptly by a very busy waitress who made time to help me. I got a slice of prince cake(do not recall the exact name) Wow it was amazing, buttery and rich in chocolate with lots of layers. Just writing about it makes me want go get another slice right now! Looking forward to have«real» lunch in the future there.

Pass on the breakfast. Coffee is not good. Eggs not good. Potato pancakes have no flavor and grease soaked. Fried potatoes — nevermind. The place has been open over a year but their big sign sits on the floor in the hallway to the restrooms.

This restaurant was hard to find but well worth the time to find. We were greated by the owner, she took the time to show most of the baked items, from bread pastries, all baked in house. The food was prepared after we ordered so it took a little time and again worth the wait and the portions were nice. Save room for dessert all are homemade and taste great. I will be back often and I play to bring more of my friends.

Fantastic service! The folks here are super nice. I had heard some rumblings of this place getting busy for lunch and folks waiting for tables/service, but we got here at 11:30 on a Wednesday and we were seated and served promptly. This is a small hole-in-the-wall joint so if you come during lunch rush hours, be prepared. The Cordon Bleu was very tasty, as were the Bratkartoffeln(pan fried potatoes). I’ve had better Rotkraut(Red Cabbage) at a few other German establishments in town, so I’ll try a different side next time. Their German Cheesecake though… holy cow that was incredible!

this is the second attempt of this owner to start a German restaurant. this site will not last any longer than her Randolph Blvd site unless she changes things real fast. it has a somewhat difficult location. the inside is drab and lifeless, and usually empty. her staff is starting to jump ship, and her food is going down hill. S.O.S.

Hands down the tastiest, most authentic German food in San Antonio! Everything we ordered was exceptional. Felt like we were back in Germany, being treated to a meal prepared by the best home cook in town. That’s a special and rare dining out experience. Very fresh, full of flavor and the prices just can’t be beat. Check out the photos — sorry, the dessert didn’t last long enough to be photographed. SOMUCHYUM!

Hello Mrs Schugga and daughter, You have created a wonderful atmosphere for German expats and German connoisseurs alike. I walked into your restaurant and bakery to sounds of German music on the stereo and conversations in German from many of your just 7 tables. I like that you are reaching out to the community for new customers with your(coupons) like the one I used for $ 6 for $ 10. I have never tried authentic German food and this allowed me to thoroughly enjoy your jaegarschnitzel with hot sauerkraut and those mind blowing pan fried potatoes. eats: — jaegarschnitzel(hunter’s schnitzel) with 2 sides $ 9.50, well tenderized and flattened, lightly breaded(7 oz) pork tenderloin with the most delicious and smooth brown gravy I have ever tasted. — hot sauerkraut, delicious, tart and studded with bacon — pan fried potatoes, these will blow your mind, get a double order and skip the other side. They are that good. Don’t dare put ketchup on these potatoes. Use them to sop up the brown gravy. desert: — rum ball with rum from the desert case $ 3.50, It seems German pastries are light in sugar, which is probably good. This desert was a dense chocolate ball(almost like fudge). It was not high quality tasting and certainly not in the rhelm of Williams Confectionary, Bakery Lorraine, or Naeglins. Based on that one desert, if you are a bakery explorer, I wouldn’t come over any long distance for sweet treats at this time, but when you come for lunch to get the best tasting German food you’ve had in a while, maybe try a piece of desert on your way out. You will make a new friend with these friendly German people. takeouts: — a memo went out today to the Rackspace headquarters next door about this place and the tech workers were filing in by the 5’s, so be patient as every order is cooked to order(about 15 minute wait). They also sell schnitzel sandwiches for $ 6.50. — everything here is served on white glass plates and real water glasses, classy.

I heard about this place through work, and being the spawn of German parents, felt it was my duty to check it out for lunch. It is located off Walzem behind the Jack-in-the-Box and next to Harbor Freight Tools, which is just around the corner from Rackspace. They are closed Monday’s for sure(went on a Monday once :/), and open most other days 8 to 8. The place is clean and tidy inside(like you’d expect German places to be), with actual table cloths on the tables. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel with pan-fried potatoes and green beans. Once they arrived, I was impressed with the presentation on the square plates, but even more so that my food was steaming hot. I love hot food. It looked delicious and the first bite did not disappoint — the schnitzel was covered in a tasty brown gravy with mushrooms that went really well with the generous helping of bratkartoffel it was served with(see my pic). The green beans were equally delicious, as they were prepared with sautéed onions and real bacon, like my Oma used to make. I devoured everything, and then eyed up the pastry cabinet. It was never my favorite, but it looked really good so I opted for a slice of the bienenstich(bee sting) torte to go, and it was better than my mom’s. The filling was light and airy, and coupled nicely with the caramelized almonds. I washed it down with a fresh cup of coffee back at my desk, and loved it. I went back again today and brought someone else with me, and we both ordered the same meal I just described. Except this time I took a slice of the mandarin orange torte to go — so good. I wanted to try the red cabbage, but went with what I knew. Maybe next time… Just the meal with water will cost you just under $ 10(without tip), and a generous slice of torte will add about $ 3.50, so you can still get out the door for about $ 15 with dessert. They can wrap it up to go as well. I’ll keep recommending this place, and look forward to lunch next week. :)

Excellent food. Everything is made fresh, from the pastries in the morning, to each lunch meal being made to order. The owner is friendly, and very passionate and proud of her food. You will not be disappointed!

Great German pancakes!!! The mushroom cream sauce is delicious! It is for two and it really is for two. We split an order with six of us(5 adults and 1 kid). All the bread was amazing especially the pretzels. Family owned business is the way to go!

What a wonderful Valentines Dinner, the best we have had in years. Small, intimate, and the food OMG Puff Pastry(made in house and was so light and flaky) with a Venison Ragout melt in your mouth Venison and then came a choice of Rabbit and/or Pork Loin so we had to have one of each. Rabbit was outstanding and so was the Pork. Lovely dining experience and we are looking forward to the Breakfast. I highly recommend giving this place a try

Found this place on Unilocal while looking for a place to eat just outside San Antonio. The atmosphere is not much to look at(reason for 4 stars) but the food was excellent. I have done some extensive travels in Germany. This place has some of the best German food I have in the US. Reccommend a visit if your in the area.

A friend of mine and I were visiting San Antonio and decided to hit up a local bakery for treats to take back home. We took a gamble and scored big. The owners are so nice. You can really tell she loves what she does. Her pretzels are AMAZING!!! We had her special chocolate cake as well which was one of the best things I have ever eaten. We only had pastries but I am looking forward to going back and trying other things.

I discovered this bakery via Groupon over a year ago. The seller is friendly and delightful to chat with. She has a passion for her food and it’s authenticity. I purchased a carrot cake, which, as she explained was not like a typical American carrot cake, and she was right! It was good, but not quite my cup of tea. Her strudel is awesome! Her goodies are little pricey, but her food is made with a lot of care and not in bulk so it is all fresh.

I came across this place based on word of mouth. It’s a tiny little spot in a shopping center in a rather odd neighborhood for a Germany bakery. The owner greeted us and was very friendly and gave suggestions/explanations of food. I had the jaegerschneitzel(sp?) and it was just OK. While, I didn’t have any dessert, they looked delicious in the glass case. If just reviewing the food, I would give this place 3 stars but the fact that it’s local and the owner was so nice bumps the place up to a 4 star overall.

I discovered this place through Groupon. I ordered the Beinenstich, or bee sting cake and I loved it. My mother even liked it. She never liked Oma’s version and said this was better. The bakery is located in a hole in the wall building, not much to look at but I assume it’s new business and everyone has to start somewhere. It would be nice to have more to choose from but I’m not sure how much traffic they get here. I got some of the cinnamon cookies which I’d definitely go back for as well. I wish the bakery was closer because I’d visit it often, that being said I will order cakes from here again.

as stated by others not much to look at outside but I felt the inside was nicely decorated. We tried that days lunch special Schnitzel Roll basically an open face sandwich. Normally schnitzel Is a thin piece of pork this was a thick breaded slice of pork loin on a nice crusty bread covered with a gravy and a cheese. we were kind of worried about gravy and cheese together(poutine I think it is called in Canada) Well we give it three clean plates out of four. Four of us in our party ate it all without taking any breaths it was that good… Would have loved more gravy though One said it was good but he had really hoped for more authentic German Food but he really loved the potato soup, I thought it was rather bland. We did not try any baked goods because they only serve strudel on Saturdays. SO if you have a lot of time to wait for your meal than by all means try the special of the day but be prepared to wait. The Schnitzel Roll is worth the wait I will go back but I think we will bring a deck of cards so we have something to do while we wait. I agree it is not really what I was expecting a german bakery to be but I was glad I gave it a try. She generally lists the weeks special every Monday on facebook.

This bakery was a big disappointment. The bakery is in an old sketchy-looking building — our first disappointment. It just didn’t look like an inviting place from the get-go. Once inside the door, we were dismayed to see just a small display case with not many German pastries in it, and the whole inside of the bakery just didn’t feel like the German bakery it is supposed to be. We decided to give two of the items in the display case a try and were disappointed with both of them. The Black Forest cake was tasteless and the fruit cake was equally tasteless. Coffee is pumped into cups from a big thermos. A big no-no. The coffee was weak and barely warm. We traveled across town to try out this new bakery and feel like we wasted our time and gas.
