This place is a go-to. The interior looks like a jack in the box from the 1980s but the tacos are legit! Huge portions and great food. I always get the trash can and the chicken Norteño! Taco Rey is awesome, don’t be scared by its appearance!

Originally, I came across this restaurant from my work. Ever since then I have become glued to this place due to the convenience, speedy service and addictive spicy salsa. The inside isn’t anything to be impressed by, but then again if you’re hungry and aren’t too picky… who really cares. I almost exclusively order their breakfast tacos, though I have stopped by a few times for their reasonably priced lunch specials. If you’re in a hurry in the morning and crave a delicious Papas Rancheras, Migas or a plethoras selection of other tasty tacos, then I highly recommend this place.

Check your order when ordering by phone, they have a hard time understanding English and Spanish. We were charged for tacos we never received. And of course the sad emotionless attitude. Food is good for price, but don’t expect to win any competitions with these tacos.

This was my first stop on my mission to find some breakfast tacos that are actually flavorful on the northside and Taco Rey failed to meet that challenge. I ordered one bean and cheese and one papas rancheras. The tortillas did not have that homemade taste, for starters. Secondly, the beans were runny and flavorless. The cheese would have helped if they would have actually put a significant amount on the taco, but there was hardly any. The papas were lacking ranchera sauce — it did have onion and bell pepper, but not enough to add any significant difference in flavor. This place is less than mediocre, so I will have to continue my search. I would not reccomend if your looking for the best breakfast taco.

WOW. Perhaps some of the best breakfast tacos I have ever tried. The eggs were moist and for the price, I was surprised by the overall quantity and quality. The service is great, the food is even better. Will go back.

I forgot why I stopped coming here for tacos. Taco Rey is over priced for the tiny tacos they serve. $ 2.50 for a carne guisada taco??? And they always seem to tack on a .40 charge everytime I go and claim its a to-go charge or a styrofoam cup charge! I didn’t ask for a styrofoam cup, you gave it to me… don’t get me wrong, the food is good and so is the service, it’s just over priced and the cashier seems to love to over charge… just sayin’…

Well known source for two things only… TRASHCANTACOS, and inconsistent rude service that ticks me off. They actually do have other stuff on the menu, but it didn’t get ordered twice. I can always depend on this to satisfy. One is enough. If Taco Rey could even say hi as I walked up to the counter I might squeeze out an extra star. But like a gas station with the right price, I’ll keep going back, despite the service. Their overstuffed homemade tortillas with wonderful mixed textures of meats, cheese, beans, and who knows what will leave little room to add salsa. Dining space is small and uninviting counter help is as friendly as a drive through window. Repeat visits have also caused me to take the time to check my change as I’ve been shorted on several occasions.

Good solid breakfast tacos and plates. This place is an old Subway so there is not a lot of room but the staff is nice and the food is consistently good and cheap. I like the chilaquiles and barbacoa.

Not a bad place to get a breakfast taco or burrito. I ordered a breakast burrito of chorizo and egg all the way wich came with cheese rice and beans. I also go the verde sala which was pretty spicy. It made for a good, filling breakfast that was a good price. I noticed that they had tacos al pastor on their lunch and dinner menu. I developed a love for al pastor when I lived in California so I’ll definitely be back to try it, and if it’s good enough I’ll re-review this place and give it another star.

I remember going to this place a couple years back and thinking it was pretty good. So we decide to go try this place out on a Saturday morning for just some good ol’ tacos and coffee. The place is very small and offers a couple of tables and booths. It was a seat yourself kind of place and they weren’t too busy. We didn’t have to wait long for the waittress to ask us for our drink orders, 2 coffees. They have a good lil assortment of breakfast tacos, machacado n eggs, brisket and eggs and a «trash can» taco, which had a lil of everything. I decided on an old faithful bean and cheese taco and a potato and egg with cheese on corn. They don’t have home made maize tortillas by the way. The bf ordered a brisket and egg taco and machacado. The coffee was decent, the normal kinda coffee you expect at a lil mexican joint. I happen to actually be a big fan. My bean and cheese taco was really not all that great unfortunately. I think Las Palapas are better. The flour tortilla seemed like the thin, un-authentic tasting kind you get from HEB. They offered 2 salsas, a red salsa and verde. The verde was ok, a lil watery, vinegary but was spicier than the red. My potato egg and cheese was good, I don’t think you can really go wrong there. Except the fact that the maiz torts weren’t homemade. My boyfriend said his brisket and egg taco was pretty good, and the machacado hardly had any green peppers in it, and looked dry and as if it had been sitting there for a while. All in all I’d say, I’d take las palapas over this place if I had the option again.
