It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t a standout, either. When the server finally made it to our table(granted, it was busy, but the servers weren’t exactly hustling) we ordered our drinks and food. Hubby had the fajita plate, which he said was very good. I had the beef enchilada plate, which was… let’s just say I’ve had better, but it was at least edible. I see a lot of people on Unilocal raving about the carne guisada, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that I just ordered the wrong thing. I’ll go back and try the carne guisada; who knows, maybe it’s bomb.

Tortillas are awesome and the Carne Guisada with cheese taco was good. Come here if you want some good tacos or some good Carne Guisada tacos. Our waitress provided good service she checked up on us several times making sure we was doing ok. Come to Tommy’s if you want good service with some good tacos.

Best tacos in San Antonio for sure! I always get the migas plate and guisada, it is amazing! Definitely the best guisada I’ve ever had. The tortilla I’m pretty sure came straight from heaven, they are buttery deliciousness! I’ve never tried the barbacoa but if everything else I’ve tried was so good I’m sure it’s amazing!

Food was ok. Nothing out of the ordinary from a Mexican restuarant. Nothing really stood out. I would go back if I was in the neighborhood.

It was the kids choice for breakfast and guess where he wanted to go. Yup, Tommy’s. He wanted a bean and cheese taco. Man does this kid love those tacos. It was our Saturday morning, and was it busy. it was a packed house but not packed enough where we couldn’t find a table. The waitress came over right away to clean up the table that was a bit of a mess from the last customers. Then she left us with some menus while taking our drink orders a tea and two coffees. She was quick to come back and get take our orders. The food came out super-fast no waiting time at all. We ordered some tacos, pancakes, and come migas. They were all so good we wanted more but were super full. The restaurant is a bit loud, and again super busy. I did have to ask for more coffee, and more tea but i can see why the waitress was everywhere. The Kid gave it 5 Stars, I’m giving it 4 stars since I think they can have more staff, or at least someone to clean the table as guest leave, and someone just to fill up water and coffee for guest that way there’s not wait time looking for someone. All and all I will be going back until they can win my 5 stars.

I’ve been several times now and haven’t been disappointed at all. The food is good and the price is right. Waitresses are nice and friendly. P. S. If the restrooms are clean the restaurants clean. A+ from me. So the next time you find yourself on the South Side, stop by and tell them Lonnie sent yeah.

The tacos here are so good. Carne Guisada n cheese and barbacoa are the best. There is a lot of wait staff so you are always taken care of. The manager always has a smile on her face and makes sure the customers are always satisfied. We will be coming back soon.

Best in town for big red and Barbacoa. Truly an original. Fast, great service and the manager, Erica, is so attentive. She made sure all customers were taken of and happy. Prices are reasonable and the wait isn’t that long, even on their busiest day. Good job Tommys …

I stopped in for lunch today. I had 1 cheese enchilada, 1 crispy taco, with beans and rice. The cheese in the enchilada was good, but I did not care for the enchilada sauce. It had a strong and overpowering tasting seasoning that I did not like. The picadillo in the crispy taco had a strange taste to it. The refried beans and rice were good, as well as the sweet tea. I would not make a special trip to this restaurant.

I went to Tommy’s today for the first time because it was suggested by some friends. Good food. Great service. My server was Claudia and besides being cute, she was warm and friendly. The only reason I didn’t give Tommy’s a five star is because the place was a little run down. I’ll be back for sure.

I have noticed that the bill at the cashier is much more than I expected to pay. Even my niece said I was charged more than the menu prices. Too bad cause my family has been coming to Tommy’s for years and years. I wish they would put the prices on the bill so that we don’t have to depend on the cashier. For example $ 2.29 for a glass of tea! And no, we did ask for refill or to go cup!

I was in the neighbourhood with a group of people and we needed a quick bite; this was the first place we found. What a find! When we came in the place was almost full but we were seated quickly. It would surprise me if we were the only non-hispanics there. I took that as a good sign. The waitress was very friendly and helpful: when we told her we only had about half an hour she had the food out in no time flat despite the place being busy. Everyone was happy with the food; my tortillas were seriously the best I’ve had in a long time.

Food was great! Service was awesome. The place was completely packed on a Sunday morning yet Raquel took are drink and food order very quickly and we had our food in less than 7 minutes. Prices are reasonable as well. Décor is like your regular Mexican greasy spoon joint but the food, service, and music make it A+++

Went today purely on recommendations on Unilocal. Not quite a hole in the wall, kind quante, mom and pop place. Good crowd. I went during breakfast had three tacos egg and chorizo was not impressed BUT I am very picky about that taco, carne guiada was pretty good and a bean and cheese taco(if you screw this one up, you have no business being a mex restraunt) and like mentioned the waitress were very pretty especially the cashier. All in all very nice atmosphere, good food. Only complaint is I don’t like to ask for creamer every time you refill my coffee, you should already know that.

Came here with my dad, mom, and my uncle as I was in town home from Austin. I have tried several Mexican restaurant places in my hometown of SA but not this one. I was surprised it has taken me this long to go to Tommy’s. It was Saturday morning when we arrived and about 9:30am — early for me but not for my parents and uncle. We had a hard time finding a good seat for all of us but the friendly wait staff helped us out and cleared out a table just for us. Prices are ridiculously low here. You can get hot and heaping plate of food on the cheap, ya’ll! I had the classic Huevos Rancheros for $ 2.99!(without the bacon… if you want bacon you pay a little more at $ 3.99). Seriously?! All this food for less than $ 3! I am SOLD! Very attentive wait staff, plenty of seating for anyone with a party of 4+, and quality good Mexican food at it’s best. I saw all sorts of diverse people eating even so early in the morning. It is a glorious thing! Also, I noticed the beautiful pieces of art and paintings around the restaurant. One piece, in particular, caught my eye — it’s a baby girl version of the Virgen of Guadalupe. It had a cartoonish quality to it that I absolutely loved. None of the pieces are on sale. I’d imagine they are just collectables by the owners. Look for it next time you are there. It’s near the back where there are additional tables and seating area. Next time I am here I am definitely trying the pork chop taco(with bone in)!!! Tacos were priced ridiculously low as well($ 1.69). Anyone wanna go and be my date next time I am in town?

Came here on a recommendation for lunch, having never heard of it I was very surprised with how good this place is. The place is a old and a dive but that’s part of the charm. The waitress was fast, efficient and friendly. The salsa is awesome; not too spicy and has great flavor. The special of the day was meatloaf with mashed potatoes, green beans and toast. I’m usually not one for meatloaf but noticed a lot of people ordered. It was very good and was only $ 6.99 including a tea. The food came out very quickly, less than 5 minutes, making it a great spot for the lunch hour. My co-workers had the carne guisada and nachos. It looked good and both said it was very good. I’ll definitely be coming back here soon.

As a Yankee, I’m usually lost and forlorn in San Antonio’s universe of in a taco joints. Barbacoa? Ranchero? Que? Happily, my partner ordered carne guisada for me, to great results. As a beef stew it’s wonderful: tender to the point of falling apart, with rice on the side to cleanse the palate from the rich and flavorful gravy. Refried beans usually scare me, but their version is well-balanced between toothy and smooth. I didn’t eat the house-made tortilla that came with the plate(who needs the carbs?) but I was happy to hand them off to my partner. His taco came in «grotesque» proportions, overflowing on all sides with beef and demanding backup tortillas. My only complaint(as ever, in San Antone) is this: healthy food is anathema to these folks. The salsa might be the most nutritious part of the meal. But you’ll certainly conquer any lingering anemia with this tasty beef-gut. The service is friendly and the good came quickly after we ordered.(The waitress apologized more than necessary for making us wait before ordering, which came off as endearing.) It’s a stand-in-line-to-pay kind of joint, with a chaotic constellation of tables to choose from, reinforcing the feel of a mom-and-pop joint that really took off. Despite their success(3 locations), they seem true to the recipes and principles that got them this far. …and now they’re playing«Fill Me Up, Buttercup,» so I’m changing this 4 star review to 5. Well done, Tommy.

Good place to get some tacos for breakfast or any time. We go as a family and don’t wait long to get a table. Fast service and good food. They greet you as you come in and thank you for coming when you leave. We don’t mind the travel across town to eat good. Need to get one of those shirts that say big red and barbacoa.

My family comes here almost every week after church and we go to church a good distance away! It’s always packed, but we never have to wait long. The breakfast tacos are tremendously delicious. The tortillas are thick and homemade with that little flour-y feel on the outside. The salsas are all amazing. The mole is amazing. The beans are amazing. They serve breakfast tacos until closing time. Try the pork chop taco! The service is fast. The caldos have always been warm and delicious for my family, although, yes, there are bones and eating them can be a messy affair. Two other bonuses: the waitresses are all terribly attractive and Mexican Elvis also breakfasts there every Sunday around 11 – 12. Keep an eye out for him. Sometimes there’s a sexy busboy there too, but I haven’t seen him lately. Sadness.
