Alvaro’s makes the best Breakfast Burritos anywhere. Whenever it travel to San Diego area i bring home at least a half dozen of them.

I have had great food every time I have come here. Breakfast burritos are good and filling, but don’t get the Machaca burrito. Carne has good flavor. Salsa is amazing! They have fast service in the drive thru. I have no complaints with anything that I have had here. Their burritos are large and always fill me up. Their veggie burrito is also very filling. Parking lot is large and there are tons of spots. They have few tables inside. Staff is always very nice and they usually always have smiles on their faces. I recommend: veggie burrito, any breakfast burrito(minus Machaca), and anything that contains carne asada.

*3.5 stars* I really did not expect much from this place but they have a really good bean & cheese burrito and guacamole. The salsa bar is fresh and many choices including hot peppers and carrots. It’s a small place with a small dining area, outside patio and drive thru connected. I opted to eat on the patio and enjoyed my meal. If I’m in the area I would consider coming back.

Had the rolled tacos with carnitas topped with guac, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. I’m going to assume they made it fresh because it didn’t have that defrosted flash fried flavor. This is a kind of place where you shouldn’t expect much with service as long as the food is good and cheap.

I have been going here for years. I love it! I live by many taco shops and have tried them all because they are closer, but I always regret it and go back to Alvaro’s even though it is quite a drive for me. I love the Carne Asada Fries, the best around!

I’ve been coming here for years. Love their fajitas plate and horchata drink. For breakfast, I get the ham breakfast burrito. Definitely recommend it. If you want To order their carne asada fries or chips, share with a friend: too big for one person lol

The tables were all filthy and the cook and cashier were too busy talking and laughing. I noticed that the cook was drinking beer and acting very crazy. He took out 2 metal spatulas and started pounding them against the stove so loudly that patrons left. I will never go here ever again. I and other people were simply trying to enjoy a peaceful meal.

To be honest, I only go here because it’s one of the only places open 24⁄7. The veggie burrito is pretty good and the churros stuffed with cream are bomb. I wouldn’t recommend the cheese fries… they’re literally fries, with melted cheese. Kinda gross. To sum it up this place is pretty great if you’re really hungry.

One of my go to Mexican restaurants! Opened 24⁄7& even holidays! Perfect place to grab a bite after a night on the town. I love the burritos here = California, Fish, Carne Asada. They are very generous with the filling & the tortilla is so tasty I can eat it by itself. The Horchata is great & not watered down! I came in on a Friday morning to order 8 California burritos for my trip to the Bay Are because my family loves Alvaro’s(that gives you an idea of just how good it is!) Service is always fast & the workers are always friendly. Try to order inside so you can a pack a small bag of carrots to go, yum!

Convenient hours: 24⁄7. Been coming to this place for years. Came the other night after hanging out in Poway. Fast drive thru service. They split each container per meal we requested. The enchilada and shredded beef taco combo was a good choice. My husband got the chicken fajitas which is a lot of food and he enjoyed. The only negative is the chips and guacamole comes with cheese on it, but all in all I will be back!

Late dinner to-go. I parked and walked inside because I was undecided on what to get and didn’t want to be that guy in the drive-thru holding up the line. There was a steady flow of cars tonight. I imagine it’ll get busier as the 4th meal hours approached since this drive-thru never closes. Not much commotion in the small space inside. It was just one other customer placing his order, the cashier, and a cook. I got a burrito and some rolled tacos, then surveyed the salsa bar while waiting for the food. The salsa bar has a decent variety, but nothing is labeled, so unless you’re a knowledgable connoisseur, good luck playing salsa roulette. I’m ok with spicy, so I grabbed some colors to go from what was available. I think I got a habanero, chipotle, and some version of the common red sauce. At least one of them had enough to kick me in the tasticles. Decent portions in the adobada burrito and no hidden foreign objects or adverse reactions after eating. Win. The rolled tacos were nice too. Bonus points for using Cotija cheese instead of just the shredded kind and also for using guacamole, not that light-green BS blended avocado cream. Other notable: they do accept cards, but you have the option to grab cash from the parking lot SDCCUATM. A decent spot to grab a snack if in the area or just passing through.

I come here fairly frequently with coworkers. It is really close to my office. It’s a small place with a few tables outside. I enjoy the outside patio. The prices are really good. I usually get a taco. The tacos are pretty big, and so are the rest of the items, so I do suggest ordering less than you think you need or be prepared to have left overs. One downside to this place for me, I really dislike their mild red salsa. I can’t tell you what it is about it, I just don’t like the flavor at all. Over all, this is a good stop. I don’t go out of my way for it, but you’re never turn it down.

Despite the sad circumstances of one of my best buddy’s father passing away, it was important that all of his friends comforted him during this trying time. What better way to do this than camaraderie and social eating. We started out at my buddy’s parents’ house at 9pm eating BBQ marinade short rib, BBQ oysters, raw oysters drizzled with Cholula hot sauce and lemon, smoked tuna, caldereta pork, and pizza. We got done with this gluttony at around 12am and what followed was more gluttony. One of my friends, not concerned about his waistline suggested that we eat again at 24 hours Alvaro’s Mexican Food. Reluctantly, I went, harboring reservations that this Mexican food place would even stack up against my favorite Mexican restaurant, Yesenia’s in Carmel Mountain. Setting aside my loyalty to Yesenia’s for my mourning buddy, I ventured to Alvaro’s with an open mind. Alvaro’s décor is modest at best. It’s got a small inside eating area and seating for outside. At 12 midnight, there weren’t that many patrons, but the drive– thru had a steady flow of cars, which must be a positive. Alvaro’s has a decent salsa bar with plenty of choices. For the spicy enthusiasts, there was no salsa that made my taste buds tingle with spiciness. Alvaro’s is located near Poway Road in a small strip mall of shops. To its advantage, Alvaro’s is the only Mexican food place that I know is open 24 hours. After my experience, if I ever have a Mexican food fix after Yesenia’s closes, which is 10pm, I know where to go now to satisfy my craving. We ordered rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese, chips and guacamole, and a carne asada burrito. Speaking only for the rolled tacos and chips, the rolled tacos were fresh tasting, had an ample amount of meat, crunchy, and blended well with the guacamole and cheese. The chips and guac were aplenty, hot and crunchy, and were very satisfying. I ordered a medium horchata and it was refreshing, sweet, and cinnamony. A real plus is unlimited refills for their horchata. I love horchata! Yesenia’s has nothing to worry about because it is still the unequivocal Mexican food champ. But, I can stray if I have any late night yearnings for Mexican food. I’m definitely sorry for my buddy’s loss, but am thankful to him for introducing me to a Mexican food alternative. Looking forward to trying Alvaro’s other Mexican offerings.

Been eatin’ here on and off since high school, and I’m coming up on my 20yr reunion! In that time this unassuming building has seen a thousand hazy 2AM binges, trashed floors, drunken fist fights, and more name changes than Puff Daddy’s driver’s license. Hell I’ve seen a guy get kicked out once for pissing on the floor in front of everyone. and yet, she still stands. Why? CONSISTENCY. Like gramma’s chicken noodle soup, it’s always good, reliable, and there at the perfect time. The Carne Asada Burrito and Roll Tacos taste exactly like they did at 2am 20 years ago and always hit the spot… the ‘G’ spot… eh…the ‘M’ spot! In SD, it’s useless to go into detail about ‘who’s the best’, but do try the Supernachos, Carne Burritos, and Roll tacos. The salsa bar is always stocked, and the salsa too is consistently great and complimentary! Prolly not a good idea for me to roll in at 2am anymore, but I do take comfort in the fact that while I’m sleeping, Alvaro’s is out there still making people happy to this day. Also, leave a buck or 2 in the tip jar. Cleaning up this place ain’t no picnic. Good karma.
