Great falafel wraps. My favorite falafel place downtown. They have super skinny shoestring sweet potato fries that are delish too. They used to have nice décor but they recently ruined it with a bunch of accessories that don’t match the previous modern style.

I went here with my girlfriend because we had an amazon local deal. It consisted of a small plate, two entrees, and two glasses of wine… sounded like a great deal. However, we showed up hungry and by the time we received our food we were starving. It took over thiry minutes to get our small plate which was 5 chicken wings. They tasted good but we were starving. The waitress gave an excuse of only one fryer working which would have been more understandable had we not been the only people in the restaurant waiting for food. We ordered the shish kabob entrée which was filet mingon, a few burnt pieces of onion and a handful of fries that are an exact replica of the seasoned frozen fries from the grocery store. The meat was tender however it was cooked well done, which in my opinion is offensive to the filet. My girlfriend got the chicken kabob which was about five chunks of chicken and some rice. It was ok flavor wise it was just odd to eat plain chunks of chicken with no sauce or anything with it. We ordered pita bread with it but that didn’t show up until we finished our meal so we gave it to the table next to us. I’m glad I had the deal because I would have been extremely disgruntled had I had to pay $ 18 for the«filet mignon» kabob. It’s safe to say we will not be returning.

This is long overdue but I found this spot after wandering downtown aimlessly with my niece, looking to satisfy my impatient stomach. That’s how we found our way here because of the following reasons: 1. There were only two parties dining at the time(this was on a Saturday night when everywhere else in downtown was feel good vibin’) 2. It was kid friendly enough for my niece 3. The name was interesting I’ve had my share of Mediterranean food and I can say I’ve had better in other places, but I can’t entirely discredit the food. My favorite thing they served was their tater tots smothered in cheese and a light gravy. MYGOODNESS. The crisp crunch of the tots held its own under the rich river of brown sauce that just sent my taste buds on a ride. That’s definitely something I would recommend if you ever come out here. My only criticism is I wished they served more, but that would just be gluttonous of me. Then there’s the falafel wrap. Eh, it was alright. If all you gave me was the vegetables wrapped with their BITEME sauce(think slightly spicy, like sriracha with mayo) I would be fine with it. I just thought the falafels were fried too long, giving it a dried out, grainy taste that lingered long after we ate. In regards to service, our server was nice but the wait was pretty long and at the same time she was cleaning up tables with no one else to help her. There was another person outside just standing there who didn’t say much. I’m assuming she was the greeter, customer go-getter, etc… but trust. There wasn’t a lot of activity happening on that end of downtown so she could have easily helped her fellow sista out. Then again, who am I to judge about work flow? I think I’ll come back here again but not for the falafel wrap. They’ve got other promising menu items and I plan on giving the joint another chance.

I came here with my roommate because I had a livingsocial that was expiring and i was so glad I did. We got there right when they opened on Wednesday and were the only 2 people there. The waiters were really attentive because we were the only people there. We got: bite m. e wings: they were really good! they come out hot and fresh, the wings were still crispy under the sause they were tossed in. The cheese was a really nice compliment to the wings. My roommate like the sause so much she wanted to save it for her meal but too bad she has no self control and ended up pretty much drinking the whole thing Lamb Skank Special: this is not on the normal menu. The lamb was super tender and almost fell off the bone. It had a lot of flavor was not salty by any means. I loved loved loved loved the dill rice it came with, which isnt included on the normal entrees either. The rice had a hit of butter, huge ol’ lima beans looking things, dill. I dont know what was in it but sweet jesus it was good… Shish Kabob: It was cooked to medium temperature and it was not tough or rubbery. This came with regular basmati rice, No complaints about this dish. Pistachio Baklava: The waiter even decorated with it chocolate and carmel sauce. It was flakey and not soaked in honey. It was light and not dense and chewy like other baklavas. Service: Our waiters were super nice and friendly!

I stopped by for a late night bite a while ago. The food hit the spot. My friend and I started with the Gyro Quesadilla which was awesome! It was so good we had to order another. Plus the service was great! I ended up leaving my iPhone and didn’t realize it until I was already back home in Orange County. I called and the server who was helping us answered. He already had the phone and mentioned he ran outside to try and catch me but it was too late. The server took down my information and ended up mailing it back to me. Now that is service! I will definitely stop in there again the next time I’m in SD. The perfect stop for late night grub!

The name of this place is regrettable. But what the heck I thought it has good reviews on Unilocal… Went here on a week night to have dinner with friends. Located next to the mall this place is an easy walk from it should you decide to park there(remember to get free parking you need to plunk out $ 10 at the mall) The inside is non remarkable. The music is interesting, it is like a middle eastern take on muzak. Food: The roasted eggplant came with pita(not tortillas like someone had mentioned): It was bland and didn’t have the roasted flavor it should have had. Pass on this. Cauliflower: These bites were pretty tasty. They are fried but not overly oily. I think this was the favorite of the whole group. The side of ranch adds some flavor. Tabbouleh: Pretty good, but lacked a fresh crunch. Good lime juice flavor. Falafel Burger: Dismal. The flavor of the falafel wasn’t bad it just lacked any crispness that it should have had. It was REALLY mushy and soft. I dunno maybe it was my fault for even ordering such a thing, I don’t really know what I was thinking. I figure if you put it on the menu(one page of food) it should be alright… French Fries: Overpriced for the portion size and not crispy. Baklava: I didn’t think it tasted very fresh but the rest of the group really liked it so maybe I am insane about my baklava. It reminded me of the type they serve at San Diego Desserts. Service: Awful. Full frontal terrible. We waited over 15 mins for our drinks. Our water was forgotten. We were never asked if we wanted a refill. The food was really slow. Our waitress didn’t give us the ranch for the app so we had to actually get up and ask. When we wanted more wine we went up to get it. The french fries came out really late, well after I had tucked into my soft burger. Nice that they had sumac on the table with the salt and pepper. Never asked if we needed anything, if we liked the food, blah blah. Nothing. Value: I think it is really overpriced for what you get. I am not looking for the most cheap food, and you can check out the menu for yourself. I just think this place is WAY overpriced. The place wasn’t very busy. Our waitress was apathetic. The owner was as well. I suggest they wake up and act like they want their business to succeed. I am going to give this place another 3 to 6 months if they continue at their current level. So many better places a step or two away. I also am crazy surprised that anyone would rave about this place. I am simply floored. Bad service aside, the food is not that great or fresh. I would say maybe I came on a bad day, but I don’t believe it. I usually like to give a place a benefit of a doubt but it was just a super bland dinner. When you expect to eat this type of food you are looking for fresh flavors, which didn’t find their way on to my plate.

I couldn’t have been more disappointed. Two of my friends and I went here because my friend was craving a gyro. This visit was a first here for all of us. The environment: * the smell. I am big on smells… and I couldn’t help but notice the smell when I first came in. It wasn’t the smell of spices, it wasn’t the smell of food. it was more like the faint smell of a garbage disposal that had not been cleared of food… * that should have been my first warning. but remember, my friend was craving gyros so we stayed… don’t worry, it’s one of those smells that you get used to after a while The food: * we ordered a chicken plate, a beef shawarma, and a lamb gyro… note: the lamb gyro was wrapped in a tortilla, not pita * the kitchen was kind enough to put the beef shawarma in pita because that was really what my friend wanted Trouble: * The chicken plate comes with salad, rice, and a roasted tomato. The salad, with was not an appetizer, was served way before any of the rest of the food was ready. And, there was NO roasted tomato… * The beef shawarma was suppose to have tzatziki sauce… when it came, there was NO tzatziki sauce… … when we brought this up to the waitress, she basically said, «I saw that. I’ll let the kitchen know.» … WHY bother serving the food when you KNOW parts of the dish are missing! * here I’m sitting thinking my meal was the only one that was not messed up. Well, we were celebrating so I ordered a glass of red wine… lo and behold, AFIXED to the bottom of that glass of red was a fly! Not floating, it didn’t just fly in. ITWASAFIXEDTOTHEGLASS!!! And ofcourse it was at the bottom so I didn’t see it until I finished the glass. YUCK! … how do you not see a FLYAFIXEDTOTHEBOTTOMOF A GLASS when you’re pouring the wine!!! I doubt I will ever go here again. On the other hand… one star for the lamb, it was good… just not worth the health risk.

We chose this place because there was a Unilocal check-in offer for 30% off the total bill. It was too good to be true. When we got there our server informed us that the manager they’d fired recently posted that after hacking into their account or something like that. I would think that they’d be able to fix that with no real problem, but they at least gave us a 15% discount. The wraps here are decent. Falafel was a bit too dry for me but the lamb was pretty spot on. The roasted eggplant was yummy and a pretty decent sized starter for the price. I think if I’m ever craving Mediterranean when I’m in SD again I would only come here during their happy hour… don’t think it’s quite good enough to justify me paying full price for everything.

2.5, but rounding to 3. Located in the heart of the Gaslamp, Bite m. e provides the area with an alternative cuisine(Mediterranian) for those that are in the mood for something other than the local bar fare. I was excited to try Bite m. e not only because of the impressive reviews, but also because we were in the process of entertaining an out-of-town guest and wanted to treat her to something that she hadn’t yet experienced in San Diego. Indeed, the quirky name of this establishment incited my giggles, and I must admit that it was partially responsible for my initial intrigue in wanting to give it a try. I’ll do my best to avoid any wordplay or inuendo for the rest of this review, but I can’t make any promises. Bite m. e is unlike any Greek or Mediterranian restaurant that I’ve been to in terms of décor. It sports a contemporary flare that plays into no tired regional stereotypes, but, instead, embodies a retro, vibrant and somewhat audacious personality that speaks to the owners’ endeavor to carve out their own space and vision for the cuisine and restaurant. The artfully chosen name clearly plays into the motif. Upon arrival, shortly after 8pm, the restaurant was quite busy, but we were able to secure a table in about 10 minutes or so. We were all hungry, and it didn’t take us long to place orders for the Bite Me Tots and the Roasted Eggplant for appetizers. The tater tots are not your standard, run-of-the-mill tots. Oh no. These tots are on steroids, topped with a delicious gravy and melted cheese. Sheer heaven. For me, they were probably the best dish of the evening. The blended eggplant, served with warm pita bread, was also good, but not particularly memorable.
For our main entrees, we ordered the Greek-Style Chicken, Donor Chicken and the Meat Me plate. My Greek Chicken dish was pittiful. I was so disappointed at the portion that was served to me. Thankfully, they were more accomodating with my tablemate’s Donor Chicken entrée, as it sported a couple of extra chicken pieces. The Meat Me dish, composed of a savory weiner of some sort, was good, but, again, I thought the portion was slightly on the small size. It was a sad piece of meat that, in my opinion, failed to adequately«meat» my male dining companion. Luckily, all of these entrees were served with a delicious serving of basmati race that added a necessary filler. Had it not been for the rice, I would have left Bite m. e with a fierce hunger. The entrees range anywhere between $ 11-$ 19. Not bad. Nevertheless, unless I find out that Bite m. e has worked on their portions, I will not likely return. And perhaps their response to this piece of constructive criticism can be located, inherently, in their name.

This place’s wraps are really good and they have a lot of vegetarians options, too :) I’ve had the roasted veggie bite and the falafel bite and both are very good, especially with their secret sauce, which is a mayo-based chipotle sauce and really kicks it up a notch(not really spicy, but adds a good flavor). Like everyone else says, the lemonade is great– very minty and reminded me of a virgin mojito. Free refills on it too! The garlic fries were tasty as well and the(pistachio) baklava was just right, not drenched in honey or sugar syrup. From the food to the waiter(he said he was the GM), this place was good from start to finish. And to top it all off, I checked in on Unilocal and got 15% off the bill :) With that coupon, 2 bite sized meals + garlic fries + lemonade & soda + baklava = $ 15/person(including tip and tax). Great value!

Service was amazing at Bite Me. Yes, this place really is called Bite Me. The server/host we got were both really nice and friendly. With a check-in on Unilocal, you get 10−20% off your entire bill! I ordered a Cesar Salad while boyfriend got the Meat Me. It was loaded with meat and some other goodies which was all very flavorful. It was nice that there was NOLINE to get in and the food was STILLAMAZING! Let me get a separate paragraph for the Mint Lemonade. It’s amazing. It’s delicious. It’s refreshing. It’s perfect for ANY meal you’re going to have. I really need to find a recipe for it now. Thank you staff of Bite Me for making my birthday weekend fantastic!

Tasty lunch spot — good food, friendly service, reasonable prices and hip atmosphere, unusual(if a bit corny) name. The«bite» sized chicken donor was a great deal — just $ 7 for a big sandwich, lots of chicken; comes cut in half, and ½ would be perfect for lunch if you get/share a salad w/it. Why not 5 stars? Honestly, if I hadn’t been to the Kebab Shop, and was just comparing this to your average sandwich, I’d think it was great., but now, whenever I hear«doner» I think of their doner w/the garlic sauce, super thin pita, and wow. Is there a reason theirs is spelled«doner» and Bite m.e.‘s is «donor» — can they really trademark the name«doner?» But, I digress. Back to Bite m.e. — we also tried the«bite» sized Mediterranean salad(just $ 5) which was really good — tender greens, tangy dressing, nice flavor. I got shrimp on it for an extra $ 5, not sure that it’s worth it for 6 ok shrimp. But, overall, a very tasty lunch.

My wife and I were walking around the Gaslamp, which we live in, and decided to check it out. I’ll be honest with you most greek/mediterranean places are the same old poor quality ingredients with decent meat. This is NOT the case here. Everything we had tasted freshly made with fresh ingredients. I’ll list what we had and comment next to it. Lemonade drink with mint– Absolutely delicious! Half Greek salad– My wife was practically drinking the dressing off the plate Pickled Vegetables– very nicely done and a good tartness Wings with honey and bleu cheese– ABSOLUTELY a must! I normally don’t like bleu cheese, but it was delicious with the honey sauce. Hummus– very fresh tasting and really good Tzatziki– needed a little lemon, but it was still worth getting Baklava– Again… a must have! The food was great and we will probably eat there again tomorrow and very often. The waitress, Dannielle, was very nice and inviting. She was helpful and responsive to any requests/questions we had. This seems to be a rare thing in a lot of places downtown. It will definitely be a standard on our list of places to eat out. Loved it! Thanks and see you soon!

My friends planned a surprised going away event for me and they took me here. While, my friends was driving to SD I was asking them what restaurant are we eating and she goes Bite Me… and than I go… yeah right what’s the actuall name of the place. She start laughing and said it is really called bite me. haha I thought it was funny. Overall I thought the food was okay. I got the hummas which is good and the Meat Me Bite was okay. My friend ordered the beef donor plate which i was thinking of getting and I thought the beef taste better but it was a bit salty. My other friend ordered the sweet potato fries and it was overcook. A few of my friends tried the dessert and said it was really good.

You could call a restaurant«Go F**k Yourself» and get away with it if the food and service are on point. Sure, Bite m. e has a goofy name… their décor is a spitting image of Burger Lounge… and the«i» in their logo looks like a syringe , but they do the things that really matter very well. The grub was excellent! I had the donor beef served in «bite» form which means it’s wrapped in a grilled flatbread with hummus their special sauce, lettuce, and tomato. The meat was extremely flavorful and paired with the shirazi salad I ordered on the side was an extremely satisfying meal altogether. Our server also deserves mention. He was as on point as Justin Long in the movie Waiting reciting most of the menu off the top of his head. Didn’t get your name my friend, but you were pretty impressive. Price point is relatively low for the Gaslamp. I’ll definitely be back soon.

Perhaps I’m a tough Unilocal critic, but I really wanted to love this place more than 3 stars worth. While the Donor Beef, «bite» portion had tender and flavorful meat and a subtle spicy secret sauce, it didn’t «wow» me. Instead it reminded me of the donor that I had at «The Kebab Shop» in Mira Mesa. On a Saturday night it wasn’t very crowded, so I expected the food to come out faster and the service to be quicker. I figured the beef was already cooked, so it shouldn’t take too long to slice and roll into a burrito shape. Definitely give this place a shot if you’re in the mood for simple(limited menu), yet solid Mediterranean food.

Bite M. e is another entry on the list of Trendy Little Eateries. Well the hypothetical list because I haven’t actually made one in Unilocal. The question is: does it sacrifice authenticity for trendy? Both my date and I ordered wraps – she, the beef doner(shavings) and me, the kaboodeh(ground beef). We traded halves so I got a taste of both. Basically the same except for the meat. We both agreed that the doner tasted better, but the overall taste was masked by a surplus of sauce making it hard to judge the overall construction. We also had the garlic fries, which came in a trendy odd-shaped bowl. They were ok; that’s about all I can say. I’d be willing to give it another chance though. I’m just not sure that it compares well to a lot of other Mediterranean places out there. Summary: Could have used less trendy and more juice-dripping skewers of pure meat.

The atmosphere is really modern and cool. This is something that downtown was lacking. Great lunch spot for some yummy eats. I had the greek salad, chicken and shared a side of sweet potato fries. I am really picky about my chicken and loved that they only used breast meat. I also got the mint lemonade and was in heaven. PS — Great name!

I went here with my sister the night the restaurant opened. I had the donor chicken wrap, and it was very flavorful and tender. My sister had the classic kabob plate, and she gave it a 4 out of 5 stars because she said the beef was not as flavorful as my chicken. I highly recommend the baklava. We tried both the chocolate walnut and the pistachio. There was the right amount of honey, and very flaky. I also had the shoestring garlic fries. I will come back to this place for this. I’m craving them just thinking about it. The garlic shoestrings had a perfect balance of garlic and salt. I love how they brought us ranch dressing without having to ask. The presentation of the shoestring’s was cute in a cylinder container, and plentiful. I also enjoyed the fresh mint lemonade! A must have! Personally, I give the quality of the food 5 out of 5 stars. I was uncomfortable with furniture in the restaurant. The booth sits very high, a bit too high, for someone who is 5“2′, and the chairs in front of the booth are so low that it feels awkward when people are trying to have a dinner with a large group of people. My friend who sat on the chair is 5“8′ and I towered over her while I sat on the booth. I highly recommend this place! I think their food is better than the Kabob shop on 9th and Market!
