Best place for cheap sushi! Customer service is always exceptional here! Forever a loyal customer. The best time to go is around 2ish when there’s only you and one other customer! I love their spicy crab roll!

I would give this place 3 stars for their food but staff and service makes it a good 4.5. Nice ma and pa shop. Feels like I’m eating at home. The prices are great but the eel sauce has a weird texture that made my sushi a bit too gooey. Aside from that, my octopus sashimi was perfect.

Took them over 40 min to get a spicy tuna roll out. Saw people seated after us get complicated rolls before us. Worst of all the food was descent at best. Nothing amazing and horrible service gets this place 1 star.

I always go to Chiba when I need a quick Asian food fix. Prices are very cheap and their specialty rolls are good. I usually call to do take out and I like that they always ask me if I am picking up in the Mission Valley or Tierra Santa location. I sometimes ask for their specials but it’s a little hard understanding them over the phone. Their rolls are pretty cheap and I usually get the spicy tuna or Philadelphia roll. I have tried a couple of their special rolls but my favorite is the Las Vegas roll. The outside is deep fried with tempura batter and topped with sliced jalapeños and spicy mayo. Inside the roll are salmon, avocado and cream cheese. Yummy!

Like many other reviewers… I’m not sure how this place got 4 stars. By far the worst sushi I have eaten. I couldn’t decide what to get so I went with the usual crunchy roll(can’t go wrong with that right? WRONG). The«crunchies» seemed to lack«crunch». And to make it worse. Cream cheese inside. I guess my bad for not reading the description. But seriously… Most crunchy rolls don’t have cream cheese. On top of the crunchy roll. I got a tempura roll. That was the only thing I forced down. I don’t think I would be coming back to this place. Do yourself and your stomach a favor and pass. Hit up Kawaii on Mission Gorge. Sushi is much MUCH better there! 1 star for my Sprite and 1 star for the girl who worked there. She was nice.

Well, this place is pretty good for price, compared with other sushi restaurant, this place is pretty chap. Taste is not bad, but if I order bento box next time, I hope the salad will be better then before. And service is good too,

I have been going here for literally years! Here is what I get every single time: mission roll with jalapeño, sushi poppers, miso soup with extra green onions and seaweed salad. The prices are fantastic. The food is good to especially for the great menu prices. There are lots of options including Sashimi and hot dishes & rolls too. They offer takeout and if you call make sure you specify which location because they also have another Chiba in Terrasanta which people sometimes confuse. The only beef I’ve ever had with this place is the fact that many times I have asked for a few extra soy sauce packets. My order is always over $ 20. A couple of times the girl actually had the nerve to tell me know and that I could only have three packets. This is a far cry from other places like San Sei where they have a huge basket full of soy sauce and you can take as many as you feel you need for your food to taste the way you like it. After that incident I literally boycotted them for a whole year because I was so mad but because it’s convenient delicious and reasonably priced I got over my grudge and went back to enjoy.

First I want to start off by saying that this review is about my order that I picked up to go, so if you are reading this expecting it to be about my experience dining in I am sorry to inform you that this is not the review for that . I’ve had this place bookmarked on my Unilocal account for quite some time now and thought that this was a perfect opportunity to order some food from here for a small sushi dinner for two that I was planning to have at home. I wanted something inexpensive, but also something that would leave me completely stuffed. After a few sushi spots that I looked into on Unilocal I decided to stick with this place and try it out . The venue is cute and small. The staff there was extremely nice. When my sister and I walked in the entire staff made sure to greet us. The lady that cashed us out was also very friendly. Word of advice is don’t bring in a large group when it’s busy because the place isn’t that big to accommodate large groups all at the same time . When ordering from here I based my decision on the photos I saw on Unilocal as well as what I was craving for. I ordered the spicy tuna roll for $ 4.25, the Philadelphia roll for $ 4.25, the Las Vegas roll for $ 8.25, the Pizza roll for $ 6.25, the albacore roll for $ 4.25, and last but not least the baked mussels for $ 3.95. Each roll was good for its price and even though it wasn’t the best it did leave me full. The rolls were the averaged size rolls you get from other sushi spots, but for the price you really can’t complain too much. The only thing I would say was a miss was the baked mussels not because of the taste but because I payed almost $ 4 for it and only got two. The taste was overall good, but I have had better. My total came out to be $ 36 and some change . Overall, I will be coming back here again because who doesn’t love good sushi for a great price?

I love their customer service. They are extremely nice and kind. Everyone loves good customer service. My bf and I wanted something light and quick that would hold our hunger over for an hour or two and this was good for us. I ordered two rolls: crunchy roll and avocado with cheese cheese and cucumber and it was a good price. I think it came out to be around $ 13. Food is good and we were both pretty happy with it. It’s a cute little place in a cute little center. Ever in the area and looking for good sushi try Chiba.

This is a good place to get your fix on cheap sushi. I ordered tonkatsu which is fried pork cutlet usually served with cabbage, rice with delicious and savory tonkatsu sauce poured on top. But there was a problem… I found out quickly that this place wasn’t genuinely Japanese when I found that the dish was served with tartar sauce instead of tonkatsu sauce. I have lived in Japan for 3 years and I’ve never seen that before. Nevertheless, I was disappointed but I ate it all anyway. It wasn’t horrible. It was actually decent and also, it was chicken instead of pork. My cousin ordered sushi and the presentation was very nice. It tasted good as well. Parking was okay because there was nothing going on at Qualcomm Stadium. Wasn’t too busy when I went and the service was good. Overall, this place is good, cheap, but not amazing by any means.

I needed a quick, light dinner one night and followed a handful of reviews from Unilocal to Chiba. I ordered two rolls(veggie and eel) and a side of edamame. I didn’t have the intention to eat it right away, as it was still a bit too early for dinner, but it was still good an hour or so later. I asked for extra ginger and they gave me loads of it. And it was yummy too! Really affordable.

Pretty mind blown that this place has 4 stars. A previous review said«you get what you pay for», but Id say that’s a little generous. I got the bento with Chiba chicken and some friend thing I’m pretty sure is Chinese(probably should have just tried sushi). The whole plate was just… Brown… My friend got the curry katsu which he said tasted like it came from a bag. I’m fat so I finished my plate of brown anyways and will probably give it one more try(for the sushi). On an unrelated note the waitress was cute. 1 star for the food. 1 star so this place stays open so the nice lady has a job.

One word, gross! I am not sure how people eat sushi from this place, but it was disgusting in there, can’t even imagine what the back kitchen looks like. I had the veggie teriyaki and steamed gyoza. There was probably one piece of broccoli, one piece of cauliflower and a split mushroom. The salad that came with it, the lettuce was all white. They have flies flying around everywhere and especially by the sushi bar, not a good sign folks!

Not really sure why this place gets 4 stars. Even for the price. The fish was not fresh, and even dry. The sushi rice was just as dry. They use imitation crab meat and don’t even try to hide that fact. Again, dry. I wanted it to be good, since it’s been a while since I’ve had sushi, but it was not to be. Service was friendly however so if you’re into that kind of thing, I can’t knock it.

I love to get my sushi fix but coming here for a quick fix was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. I understand that you get what you pay for, but I honestly would rather go to a crappy chinese buffet for sushi. First of all, this place is dirty. One of the girls came to clean the table AFTER we have already sat down. The table was sticky AFTER she had already wiped the table. I ordered a special chiba sushi bento. The portion was good, however, the sashimi tuna that was in the bento box was clearly old(it was dark brown color). I also ordered a soft shell crab roll. I have to say that I can hardly taste any soft shell crab in it. Anyhow, I do not recommend this place at all.

I randomly found this place on Unilocal while searching for something to eat. I was attracted by the one $ sign meaning it was cheap. Most of the appetizers, entrees, and basic sushi rolls were cheap, but the specialty rolls were average regular priced. Appetizers about under $ 6. Basic rolls are all under $ 5. Hand rolls are under $ 6. Specialty rolls are about $ 9-$ 14. Which is still a pretty good deal. Philadelphia Roll $ 4.25 The Philadelphia roll was decent. Good amount of salmon, but very uneven distribution of cream cheese. Some barely had any cream cheese, while other pieces had more. And the rice was a bit on the hard side. Special Cucumber Roll $ 12.95 (Out: Cucumber, In: Tuna, Salmon, Imitation Crab, Eel, Mayo, & Shredded Tuna) This roll was good except for that I noticed there was some kind of sauce on it. The sauce tasted a bit on the sour side and very much reminded me of «Nuoc Mam» or vietnamese fish sauce. Which I did not like on the roll. But everything else was good. I am quite surprised to find out that everyone working here in this restaurant is all Vietnamese. The server is vietnamese, the hostness is vietnamese, and even the sushi chefs were vietnamese. So im assuming that its a family owned business. Just thought I’d point that out. But overall, cheap decent place to go for lunch.

Talk about a huge bang for your buck! My bf decided to order take-out from Chiba and we ended up getting A LOT for just under $ 20. It about 20 minutes of placing our call, our order was ready. We got the pizza roll, 18 piece salmon maki, & spider roll(see photos) — all were really good. We were super full by the end of the night. Parking was pretty difficult even though we went on a Thursday night around 8pm. They do have a few tables inside and outside, but the place is still relatively small. I recommend taking your order home and enjoy some sushi with a movie! I will definitely be back for more!

Small local business… Everything is fresh. They do not accept Amex! Debit/credit card must be a $ 10.00 minimum purchase. The Corona Roll was delicious and their chicken teriyaki bowl is served with sufficient food. Inexpensive fresh sushi for a quick fix. This isn’t a fancy sushi bar. It’s a great place to satisfy your sushi craving and most importantly it’s fresh. Parking is available in the plaza.

Judging from other reviews, I was expecting a hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant that offers delicious semi-traditional Japanese faire. Well, let’s just say this is one those times when my fellow Unilocal reviewers missed the mark, completely. The atmosphere: the interior was off-putting from the get go. Old tables, dirty floors, and a feeling that the place hasn’t seen better times since 1992. Two things really made my appetite sour after stepping in. The bathrooms were not very clean and they were covered in graffiti. I get it, some douche bag or several douche bags went in to the bathroom and vandalized it, but just because Chiba was the victim, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t clean-up the graffiti for their actual civilized customers. Also, you know the cliché: dirty bathrooms, dirty kitchen. The last unsightly thing I noticed was baby flies buzzing around my sushi. Keep in mind I was there in the middle of winter, so where are those flies coming from? The food: close to abysmal. I got a spicy scallop roll, a dragon roll, a California roll, and a bento of teriyaki chicken. The sushi rice had no seasoning and the seafood didn’t taste fresh. Also, the fish wasn’t cut uniformly resulting in uneven textures. The salad served with my bento was all iceberg and even the veggies in teriyaki chicken tasted bitter. Nope, not good. The service: their only saving grace. All of the waitresses were attentive and very polite. This is the only reason why I didn’t rate this place one star.
