Me and my family are huge sushi eaters, and we love to try new places. I got a Groupon for this place which seemed like a good deal, so I decided to just try it out. When I first walked in here I said oh lord what have I got myself into… Cheesy pics on the wall, small area, not Japanese like. I sat down looked at the menu it seemed pretty decent. Our first rolls came out and was a little hesitant to take a bite but it was actually very good. By far not the best sushi I’ve ever had but it was good. We ended up ordering like 4 rolls lol, and each one was great. I will def. go there again.

How to rate? 4 stars because I love their sushi? or 1 star because they seem to have closed their doors with no notice at all. Guess I’ll go with 1 star for now and if they come back in business will change it. So bummed about this place! Its one of my favorite go-to sushi spots, especially when Im in the mood for take-out! have been coming here for years and love the fact that their fish is fresh and their rolls are huge. My favorites are the Craig’s Roll & Danny’s Special Roll. A couple of months ago I tried calling for my usual take-out order and no one answered. Called back several times thinking they were busy, but never got anyone to answer. Very strange. Stopped by one night to order in, and noticed a sign on the door that said«Closed for remodelling». Ok, I can deal with a couple of weeks or so of not having take-out sushi. Fast forward several months… Their phone is now out of service, the sign is gone from the door, and another sign is up in its place that says«Do not leave mail for Toro Sushi». I peeked in the window and everthing looks the same, chairs are up on the tables like they’ve been cleaning the floors… sushi bar is still there. But the lights are off and its dark and dingy. Is it really closed for good? If not, they have some TERRIBLE customer service. They could at least tell us what’s going on instead of leaving us hanging!

Does anybody know if they’re going re-open? If they close it will be a bummer they’re our good and cheap go to Sushi place?

I usually pick up my orders to go from this place. They have unique rolls, decent prices, quality seems good. Last week I dined in for the first time. They were really busy at lunch time and only ONE waitress. Mind you, it’s a tiny spot so during normal hours one waitress might suffice. But during the lunch rush when people have a limited-time lunch break… a second waitress would really help! Anyway, besides the wait to put in our order the food was delicious as usual. My only advice is do NOT order water. It’s gross tap water… not even filtered. It tasted like pure toilet bowl(not that i’m familiar with that taste, I’m just guessing). Next time i’ll remember to order tea or soda. My favorite rolls so far are Victoria’s Roll and Mexican roll. The jalapeño poppers are petty darn good too.

Man-o-Man! This place is getting dirty. and the owners don’t want to hire enough service people; so the ones here are over-worked and grumpy :( The service has been so unfriendly for the past several months, maybe because they seem to have cut back on servers. There is usually only 1 server for the entire restaurant! ONLY1SERVER!, crazy, huh! and the newest one… She works so hard and there is no way to keep up with the busy crowd. Sometimes one of the guys from the sushi bar will come and help her clear the tables, but, honestly, the waitress, server, hostess, cashier responsibilities are outrageous for one person. I think that the management needs to take better care of its people(servers and clients!!). We haven’t gone there much anymore; maybe once a week instead of 3 or 4 times a week. But, we do want sushi, so we go to other sushi bars in the area. We have enjoyed the wonderful Lemon Roll at the nearby Chiba Restaurant(10435 San Diego Mission RoadSan Diego, CA92108,(619) 584‑1836) ****Sorry Toro, but you need to spend a little money and effort on hiring more servers, etc. Cleaning up the entire restaurant(inside and out) would be a really good idea too.

The sushi is wonderful here. I eat here about once a week. I recommend their spicy tuna and eel hand rolls — they are wonderful. Every roll I’ve ordered has been exceptional. Fish is always fresh and delish. I only come in for lunch on weekends and wish I could eat here more often for lunch. Their cooked food bentos are aok as is their house salad. Highly recommend.

I don’t think I really like this place… I feel bad because my friend really does! She bought the deal $ 25 for $ 50 so we went in together. She told me she didn’t know there’s so many restrictions that came with it like you can’t use it on alcohol, must tip original amount, can’t split the bill if you use this, etc. The table we sat at was dirty and my friend got sticky eel sauce on him. There were flies flying around EVERYWHERE and it was really annoying having to swat them away like every minute while I’m trying to enjoy my meal. Our server didn’t seem that nice. I even heard her taking a togo order on the phone and she was like«Uhhh yeah sweetheart… it’s sushi.» Would you really say that to a customer who’s just asking questions about the menu? She even got my friend’s order wrong. She wanted dragon with no cucumber and of course, there was cucumber. The crunchy house roll felt like I was eating pure batter. The batter is SUPER thick on there that I can’t even bite it. The baked volcano roll had a TON of mayo on it. I really didn’t feel like stuffing a spoonful of mayo in my mouth. Why don’t they use cream cheese? Yeah I’ve come here other times and the service was a little better but all in all, I feel like this place wins in price. It is cheap and you get what you paid for.

I’m here probably every other week. It’s kind of small, but I don’t think I’ve waited more than 10 minutes for a table, and most of the time there isn’t a wait at all. The service is pretty awesome and you really can’t beat the price. For value, I really like the bento boxes. It’s a bit of everything for not too much cash. I also really like the tempura udon. It’s really filling and served up nice and hot. Fave rolls include the rainbow roll, the california special roll, and the San Diego roll.

Hmmm… I am sorry to say I agree with Christina T., on the freshness and perhaps the quality of their sushi lately. I too have recently gone with a friend and ordered a variety of sushi rolls. While the rolls were generous and well priced, unfortunately I noticed that the quality and freshness of the fish was not as good as it was when Tony owned the place. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but it did not seemed to have that extra distinct level of quality were you do not sense that hint of fishiness that can overwhelm a roll. But, the friend calamari is still great! Check out the picture I uploaded!

This is a hole in the wall place that serves decent sushi for really cheap prices. We got 4 rolls and the bill was only $ 24! They have A LOT of different types of rolls it’s pretty overwhelming. If you come here often enough, they will take a picture of you and post it on their wall.

I have been wanting to try this place after finding out about their .99 cent Nigiri(for one piece). This is part of their happy which goes from 2pm-6pm Monday thru Saturday, and on Sunday it goes from 12pm — 4pm. The nigiri offered for the .99 cent deal included Unagi, Albacore, Mackerel, Shrimp, Crab, Salmon, Tuna, Red Snapper and I want to say, Yellowtail. I ordered everything but the Shrimp and Crab. I love the sauce that comes with the Albacore and Mackerel, it has a slight kick. The Unagi had the right amount of sauce on it and wasn’t overly sweet. Everything else was delicious, and I enjoyed it all. My friend ordered a Vicky’s Roll, it’s a baked roll with Salmon, Cream Cheese, and Avocado in it. It was pretty good, but I’m not really into cooked rolls. The pieces are huge by the way. My total for the 7 pieces of Nigiri came out to $ 7.48 I believe. I found it to be a very good deal. I think the only good thing about their happy hour is the Nigiri, to get 50% off a roll you have to order an entrée that’s $ 8.99, or to get a free roll you have to order two entrees at $ 8.99. I think they should at least offer 30% off rolls, but I’m quite happy about the nigiri deal, and their rolls aren’t expensive to begin with anyway. Servers were nice, they were pretty good about checking up on us. Overall, I’ll definitely be back. It’s a pretty good spot.

I’ve loved Toro Sushi from the first time my boyfriend brought me here. What’s not to love? It’s cheap, quality sushi and they have happy hour everyday from 2 to 6pm. All the servers and staff are really friendly. There’s almost always a table open just for you. I love coming here to stuff my face with $ 1 nigiris during happy hour. My favorite things on the menu are: Jumbo roll — all the raw fish you could want in a roll you can hardly fit in your mouth Johnny’s roll — fresh and delicious topped with ponzu sauce Crunchy Special Roll — deep fried guilty pleasure I’ve eaten here plenty of times and still haven’t tried everything. There menu is pretty expansive, so I know I will keep coming back for more! I wish there was a Toro Sushi in LA :(

Sadly disappointed. I recall this place being pretty okay a few years back. But, as of the last take out, not so good. Only two of the three orders were okay, and that maybe a stretch. The crunchy house roll that’s supposedly one of their more popular items… what a waste of money! I don’t know if it has much to do with the fact that it was in a take out container and that by the time I got to it(15 or so mins after) the texture of the crunch fell flat. But that wasn’t the only problem. The overall starchy, rich but flavorless, just didn’t cut it for me. The primary reason for even considering to get food here again was because it was in route when the sushi roll craving kicked in. Needless to say, this quick and unwise decision made for an unsatisfying experience. The extra 10 mins it would of taken to get to Niban would of been a much, MUCH, better decision. Lesson learned. .

Toro who? TOROSUSHI!!! My friend had been recommending this place and so I took her up on the offer to go this past Friday. Located not to off from Mission Valley this place is by far a hidden gem! The place was small but felt cozy and the staff was so nice! And the random lobsters on the wall made me crack up time and time again. Anyways, now you ask what did we eat? Edamame 2.95 Crunchy House Roll 6.25(My fav) T&T Roll 4.95(On the white board) only order if you like Spicy :) Tony Roll 2 Sapporo Beers ;) We spent less the $ 20 bucks each and enjoyed good food and laughs! I think everyone should give this place a chance :)

This can be a very busy place on the weekends, so if you are free for sushi during the week or lunch I recommend that for your first impression. It gets busy for a reason: their sushi is really good. I start every meal with an order of miso soup and the Mission Roll. Yummy crab, tuna, avocado, wrapped in soy paper with rice. Even my friends who don’t like sushi have started eating sushi because of the mission roll. Booyeah! Quick, friendly service; nice sushi chefs, and affordable sushi. The only down side is it shares its lot with a soupplantation so parking can be a nightmare. That’s not their fault though, so no knock against Toro.

I don’t know what’s the fuss about this place. I’m all for mom n pop type places, but it was such a disappointment. I have to agree with the other Unilocalers about the spicy tuna roll. There was nothing spicy about it and the color was really off. Fresh tuna is typically a very red, but this place was VERY pale pink. Oh! and the texture was so off. It felt like I was eating gooo. The other rolls were okay. nothing too special. I give them credit for trying though.

I have to say that I am the most happiest person alive to FINALLY try this place out and know that it’s just down the stree from where I live! 5 stars because my unagi sushi [which tasted soo fantastic] was less than $ 5! I spent only $ 10 for two sets of sushi here!!! I now have a new favorite sushi joint and it’s so close to where I live! Small and cute place, and this place gets packed FAST! The only problem was PARKING!!! I couldn’t believe even on a weekday parking was packed and so was toro sushi, but of course totally worth every penny ;] Yum!

I love this place! At times the wait can be long, but for sure worth the wait. The staff are friendly(sometimes slow), but that hasn’t stopped me from going back time after time. This is one of few places that I can say I’m a «regular» The Stuffed-Tomato(not really tomatoes) and San Diego are my favs. Hits the spot EVERY single time. The prices are very reasonable. Ultimately, sushi is sushi… as long as the fish is fresh you can’t really tell the difference. What sets this place apart is that they have such a large variety of rolls. I always challenge my friends to have them take me to their favorite sushi joint and I take them to Toro… I always win(of course within this price range). Give it a try!
