Curves

The owner is probably a nice person however the fact that $ 44 makes or breaks her ability to stay in business is sad. I left TWO voicemails on the location phone specifically stating I was interested in canceling my membership. The messages were left on March 25 and March 28. NO_​ONE returned my call to tell me that the request had to be in writing. When I finally found out it had to be in writing, the email was dated early April and now this Cheryle would not take the time to see that I had called in March — nor did she apologize that no-​one returned my call. Great customer service Cheryl. Bottom line this Cheryl person made me pay for the month of April and May — instead of just April. (Yes I canceled the membership early and also had to pay a $ 50 penalty). If you are considering joining here, this twice and find an alternative Curves. The area is sketchy when dark! Hope your business can make it.

Curves is basically a circuit gym for women (of all ages). Cheryle (the owner) is completely dedicated to you and helping you lose weight/​get in shape. She’s just moved to the new location in Sorrento Valley (within the past year I think) and now the gym is HUGE! It even has a shower!
My mom and I joined Curves when I graduated high school (though I only did it for three months before moving to college) and wow — the machines really are designed to target different muscle groups. They are also hydraulic-​based so you don’t have to worry about changing weights or being worked too hard by a machine — you decide how hard you workout by how fast you go and how hard you push yourself. I think the CurvesSmart program is included when you join, which really helps you from slacking off — it keeps track of your progress and gives you a green light when you are on track. And Cheryle is amazing at motivating you and making you feel welcome and making sure you are using the machines right.
The best thing about Curves is the workout environment. I got to know a number of ladies who came in and they always had stuff to talk about! It’s like gossip hour, except the circuit is only 30 minutes! That said, you are welcome to stay as long as you like or even just hang out. Join with a friend and you’ll have a good time getting in shape. If you’ve been thinking about joining a gym, call Cheryle now! It’ll be the best decision you can make!

It’s not your usual gym, but for people like me who are a little fitness-​shy and not totally in love with working out, it’s perfect. The owner’s a total peach, and they are the only curves in San Diego that is open on Sunday, and the only one with shower facilities as far as I am aware.
They also have Zumba and Pilates classes for an additional fee ($ 3 a class), and there’s a massage therapist setting up here too — so hey — good place for a before-​work workout, in my book!
