Update *** still love this place. Been coming since it opened. Song is the best sushi chef and will create something for u that’s not on the menu if u just ask. He’s creative and very friendly. The only downside to this place is that it’s gotten a little on the expensive side. They are closed on Sunday’s and they don’t have a happy hour!

If you enjoy sushi as much as me, then you’ll love this place. I’ve probably came here about 5 times and I am just falling in love. Pros: their food is delicious and their service is amazing. the ambience of the restaurant is pretty good too. Even the sushi chefs are very personable, so if you want to come here by yourself, you can sit at the sushi bar and have a nice conversation with the sushi chefs. Cons: I can’t think of any at the moment. These are some of my favorite things here and I highly recommend: Shrimp Tempura: I’ve had many shrimp tempuras at many difference places, but there’s just something about this place that makes it so perfect. The crunchy outside batter thats wrapped around the freshly prepared shrimp thats been fried perfectly every time. Their dipping sauce is also a nice elegant touch of richness that puts this whole combination together as one of the best shrimp tempura’s I’ve ever had, even as good as the ones that my grandma use to make me when I was growing up. Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll: You guessed it right, my 2nd favorite thing here has the shrimp tempura inside too. Is there anything more that I need to say about it? Catalina Sushi Roll: this roll just has the perfect blend of San Diego and Sushi all put into one. I’m typically not a big fan of spicy tuna, but the yellowtail and their special cilantro sauce that they put on top of it, just screams Mexican San Diegan Sushi special. Torrey Pines Sushi Roll: I was feeling for an healthier option one day and I came upon this roll. This roll is wrapped around a cucumber instead of sticky rice. The proportions of the imitation crab and mix of sushi(I believe it had Tuna, Salman, and Yellowtail) was perfect. This was my version of a sushi salad. Besides those 4 things above being my favorite, I also recommend the Baked Salmon Roll, A1 Roll, and most of their nigiri are usually pretty fresh for a small sushi restaurant in the suburbs. This is going to my go to sushi place in San Diego now.

I liked the food but very disappointed to find out fake lobster was being served and Eda Mami was fined and plead guilty…

Love the name of this place. My friend and I were actually looking for a different sushi place, but it was closed, so this by the powers of Unilocal,we located this place close by. What a great option it turned out to be! I ordered the mixed tempura, which had a deliciously light batter and the Ninja Roll which had crispy rice on the outside of spicy tuna topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo. All together we had two rolls, the mixed tempura, and a green tea and each spent about $ 14. If this place was closer to me, I’d probably be a regular customer.

I have mixed thoughts about this place. I came in as I was hungry and had some free time before my afternoon appointment. After sitting down, I noticed that they had 50% off select sushi so I decided to try two rolls and some salmon nigiri. It was pretty good, nothing spectacular. Definitely a decent deal at the price. The worst part of my dining experience was my server. She hardly spoke and not once did she smile. The wasn’t remotely warm and she seemed completely disinterested. Had she been more engaged and pleasant, I would find it easy to recommend this place.

Pros: Staff was extremely nice, Seems like a great place. Cons: Food poisoning. Not joking. Also, a bit overpriced for what you get. Sorry guys, won’t be coming back.

Disappointed to find out Edamami has acted fraudulently. We eat here often, and on occasion would order the bakdd lobster roll as a treat. Little did we know that’s not actually what we recieved. Not sure what to think about it. Always enjoyed their food but I can’t eat what I can’t trust.

This place used to be fantastic and one of my favorite spots. Unfortunately with time quality of service and food has worsened to the point where second chances are long gone. To make matters worse this comes out: No lobster found in lobster rolls at San Diego sushi restaurants

Man. Where do I start. I love this place. I’m usually an AYCE sushi-er but this place, I make an exception. I’m addicted. The fish used is so above average it’s like a privilege to eat it. The chefs are kind. The waitresses are kind. The service is fit for a king. You want something special done to your roll? Doesn’t hurt to ask! They may do it! I asked for a vegi roll with spicy tuna on top with jalapeño and lemon, boom, done. I drive to San Diego twice a week and at least come once or twice on those trips weekly. It’s what motivates to drive the 120 mile trek. The sushi in our city(Redlands) doesn’t stand a chance against this(luckily for them l, they’re far away). Try this place. You won’t regret it.

fast prepartion of my sushi roll. It lacked the avocado at first so they made me a new roll and it was good. No Japanese sushi chefs to be found but the two white dudes did a decent job for Americanized sushi. The yellowtail collar was good and traditional. Nice job and nice interior for a quick dinner.

Decided to try since it had great reviews. Came around 1pm so it was not as busy and I was seated right away. They gave me edamame so that was nice. It gave me something to snack on as I wait. The menu is is simplified with not too many things so it narrowed down what I wanted. I went for nigiri and hand rolls since this place offers 50% off those items as their special. I ordered the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, octopus. I really liked the tuna and yellow tail, they were nice cuts and the rice is formed nicely. the salmon felt a little slimy for my taste. now the octopus was great with a nice crunch and not rubbery. the downer was they didnt give me enough of the picked ginger but their wasabi was on par and pretty decent. it was the right texture i liked, not too dry and not too watery. I have learned to eat wasabi the proper way which is NOT to mix it with the soy sauce and only scoop it onto the sushi for that added kick. The service was great and overall i was pleased. The place was clean and everything was well organized. I will definitely return to try out some of the other dishes there.

Best sushi spot in Tierrasanta! Once you’re seated, they serve you edamame. Thought that was a nice touch the 1st time I came in. The staff is always kind & attentive. They have a large selection of different rolls. My husband & I typically order 2 rolls(1 hot roll) & some nigiri. We tend to go back to the Washington Roll & the Baked Lobster Roll. The Washington is 1 of the rolls included in the 50% list. I’m glad I have the option of ordering real crab instead of imitation crab, but there is an additional fee. Overall, the quality & price are just right! The sushi here satisfies my sushi cravings, which is every week. Heads up! Check out their chalkboard for food & drink specials. Make sure you check in to get a free small hot sake.

Service wasnt that great. Waited forever fof water refill. A little too expensive for the quality. Ordered tiger roll, yellow tail hand roll, shrimp tempura hand roll and spicy crunchy. Hand rolls were better than regular rolls. Spicy crunchy was really not good at all. The tiger roll ok. Won’t be going back here again.

When I first moved to the Serra Mesa area(from downtown SD) I was seriously doubtful I would find a sushi restaurant that would ever satisfy me. Luckily, a friend and fellow Unilocaler posted pictures of this place and I was on my way! First, the 50% off sushi selection is an awesome deal! Especially when you’re used to downtown prices… I love the detailed explanations of the sushi rolls on the back of the menus. I know every sushi place is sort of the same but at the same time, very different. The detailed menu helped me find my favorites and also helped me discover new treasures. Second, the staff is just so pleasurable; very friendly and warm. They’re attentive and professional but at the same time not stiff! Third, the atmosphere is cool and relaxing! Again, a very welcoming place that makes you feel comfortable but you get the feeling you’re about to have some damn good sushi! **My favorite roll was the Lemon Roll/The chicken Katsu was the best I’ve ever had**

My girlfriend and I have been looking for a new sushi place closer to our house. Woohoo, found it! This place is amazing! The atmosphere is so welcoming and charming. They greet every person who walks through the the door and not like a «welcome to subway» type of greeting! We checked in a got a free hot saki, still not my favorite but I keep trying saki. Every server was so nice, they could tell it was our first visit and gave plenty of time to look over the menu with just enough walk bys to not annoy or pressure. We ordered the Malibu roll, lemon roll, spicy tuna roll, and a katsu bento. All were phenomenal! The bento was such a clean and pretty presentation. We spent $ 49 on the food and a glass of wine and a beer! Such a great price! We look forward to our next visit and have so many things to try there!

Let me preface my review by saying that it’s based on three separate visits to this place. The first time I went to Eda-Mami I went with a girlfriend and it happened to be happy hour. We got a few rolls to split, they were decent, and the bill ended up being cheaper than we expected. The staff was friendly enough. So I decided to try it again a few weeks later. This second time I went to Eda-Mami, I had my boyfriend call in our order so I could pick it up on my way home. When I got there, I was told my total was 50-something dollars. Obviously, I thought it was a mistake(how could California and Philly rolls cost so much?!), but the waitress repeated the order to me. I said okay and gave her my card. When I got home and looked at the receipt, I saw that my boyfriend’s two spicy tuna rolls were like $ 15 each! Ummmm no sushi I’ve ever had is worth $ 15 a roll. Then, I went to dive into what I expected to be the most delicious sushi roll I’ve ever had, and they screwed up the order. Somehow when my boyfriend said«Philly roll» on the phone they heard something entirely different and I ended up with a roll that was a little too adventurous for my new sushi-liking palette. BUT, we decided to give them another shot last night. Again, boyfriend called it in(with instructions to get something cheaper than spicy tuna) and I picked it up. This time it was $ 24 for two California rolls, a Philly roll, and a dragon roll. Not too bad, I guess. I got home and devoured a California roll. It was good, but it was also just a California roll. Now time for the Philly… I put the first piece in my mouth and got a splinter on my tongue in the process(my own damn fault). Before I could even chew I could taste how fishy the salmon was. Uh-oh. I then compared my roll to my boyfriend’s dragon roll and the salmon in mine was practically brown compared to how pink and fresh the salmon on his roll looked. Not wanting to risk food poisoning, the rest of the Philly roll went in the garbage. I gave you an honest shot, Eda-Mami. I really did. The place gets two stars for friendly staff and good enough California rolls. I can’t say that I’ll be going back though.

Overpriced slow and too much rice in the rolls. So sad this had to be the closest sushi joint to my house.

This place is ok. You really gotta divide it up between the sushi and the cooked food. Sushi: consistently fresh fish. I can’t deny that. The rolls that are half off don’t include the specialty ones. The priciest of the half off rolls are $ 11, which include the eel and Washington roll(glorified California roll with salmon on top). I guess at half off the price is about what those rolls should be about. I would definitely go for the sushi(depending on which chef cuts it, you might get a generous cut) and the hand rolls. The cooked food: the only thing worth mentioning is the kama. You get a massive piece. As for the teriyaki chicken and fish, they’re honestly quite terrible. They’ve got that fast food teriyaki taste going on. Conclusion: sushi is awesome. cooked food, not so much.
