Good service and food. Great savings: 10% off if you check in on facebook, write a Unilocal review, or hashtag them on instagram(5% off during HH) and they are also on Mogl for more cash back(18% back when paying from 8−9pm!). Not many places can you get that much back in savings! And the prices are fair for the rolls. Obi’s roll and the baked California roll were delicious. I tried a few of my brother’s rolls, such as the Chargers roll and hot mama roll, which were also good. And for the Chargers fans Kevin Acee apparently is a frequent diner here and does his interviews with the Chargers players(many photos posted on the wall).

A good sushi spot isn’t too hard to come by in San Diego, but a great sushi spot with a wide variety of decedent collaborations of flavors that excite your pallet and engage your imagination is something special. Obi’s Sushi is that special place.

I have started coming here for lunch lately and everything I have tried is very good. I recommend bento box combination! Staff is always nice. It seems to be busy for lunch, so I recommend calling your order in to go before you visit.

I’m a regular here. The service here is great, the staff is nice, and the sushi is good. I usually get the bento and maybe a specialty roll or two and it’s such a good deal. No complaints! And its really close to my house

DH and I finally decided to try Obi’s tonight, hidden away behind the sizzler on Aero. We tried three rolls, the lemon drop roll, caterpillar roll, and the ninja plate(with dragon roll, spicy salmon and mixed nigiri). Our server was nice and helpful with suggestions, and patient with my changing out one of the original rolls. I thought the waiting time for our first sushi roll(20 mins?) was a bit long for the amount of people inside(approximately 5 tables). I definitely recommend the ninja plate and the lemon drop roll(if you like salmon). The dragon roll on the ninja plate was so good we will get the whole entire roll next time. We’ll be back soon, and I will update the review after I get a few visits under my belt.

I didn’t even know this place existed. The rolls are pretty dang good and the oysters are delicious. I normally don’t eat oysters but I really liked the way it was prepared. Happy hour from 4−7PM so take advantage because the happy hour looks awesome.

I’ve gone here twice and both were positive experiences. The first time was with my boyfriend and we sat at the bar. We felt very catered to because the chef interacted with us while making the sushi right in front of us. We ordered the caterpillar roll and some other rolls that I can’t remember. The second time, I went with one of my girlfriends and I tried the house sushi(Obi’s roll). All of their food are so beautifully presented and tastes great. The restaurant also looks very festive whenever I come. I will definitely come back and take more pics!

This place is OK, and three stars is warranted for the typical strip mall sushi fare offered here. Not sure why all the rave reviews, no way this is a 4 ½ star place. I know San Diego isn’t a mecca for dining like the Bay Area, but surely the Unilocalers here aren’t that out of touch? The varieties of fish offered here are pretty rote, with nothing interesting on the menu. Quality is OK but not outstanding. Emphasis is on the rolls, which are the go to fare for folks that don’t appreciate that nigiri and shashimi are where it’s at if the restaurant is legitimately in the upper tier. These are the same folks you see mixing wasabi into their soy sauce and then soaking each piece in the mixture. Service on this day was spotty with two servers tag teaming our table and not really on point. Interior is dark and more like a diner than anything else.

First time here. It’s in the Serra Mesa area where there’s not a lot of food(and Unilocal ratings are inflated as a result). Sushi Diner is my go-to sushi bar but it’s hard to eat there with kids, so I thought I’d give this place a try knowing in advance it would be lots of Americanized rolls with lots of sauce(which I have nothing against). Service was great. Décor is nothing special. No wait on a Sunday night. We ordered garlic edamame, which was good, but as its fried in oil any feelings of it being healthy were diminished. We tried an assortment of sushi. Salmon belly and yellowtail nigiri, salmon maki, salmon skin roll, and their Sumo Roll. We ordered a kid’s bento for my son. Salmon belly nigiri– good texture, but fishy aftertaste. Not fresh. Yellowtail nigiri– off color but soft texture and good taste. Only $ 4. Salmon maki– it’s fine and what you’d expect. Their offer 6pc for $ 4.5 and 18pc for $ 9.50, which is a good deal. Sumo Roll– salmon, tuna, octopus, and salmon roe with wasabi mayo. I enjoyed it, although I could have done with the mayo on the side. Octopus could prove to be too chewy for some, but I like the texture. Salmon skin roll– nice and crunchy. Some places don’t fry right and you get soggy bits, this one was done properly. Kid’s bento– plenty of food for my four year old. Usual suspects with teriyaki chicken, California roll, fried gyoza. It was fine. In all, I can’t say I understand why this place has 4.5 stars. I’d have been disappointed if I’d brought friends here from out of town, which I may have considered given the Unilocal rating. Nothing outside of the salmon nigiri was overly disappointing, though, and it settled my sushi craving. I’d say«It’s fine.»

Great place to have Japanese food. People come out here for the happy hour. They have a variety of sushi rolls, bento boxes, and combination plate. They also have kids plates as well.

The last time I ate here was with Momma Santos and my boo thang. Now I’m back here with Momma Santos, Poppa Santos, Ate Rose, and my boo thang. We just sent off Kuya Jo to the Navy and and now we’re hungry. The sushi just arrived so I have to go now. It’s good.

I enjoyed the sushi at Obi’s Sushi. It was fresh and flavorful, but not overly expensive. It’s a good local sushi place and one that I would go to when I don’t want to drive too far. We ordered the sashimi donburi, which is various types of sashimi over sushi rice and mixed with seaweed salad, cucumbers, and daikon radishes. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The fish had a nice flavor and was definitely filling. We also ordered hamachi sashimi to add with my donburi. It was very typical hamachi sashimi and were not disappointed. We tried the lemon drop roll and enjoyed it as well. It was very lemon-y, which is such a great combination with sushi. Obi’s Sushi is well worth the money combined with the convenience factor.

The lunch special bento is legit. The waitress was really patient and accommodated a custom piece to their special. Not a fan that everything is imitation crab, but oh well, just went for salmon instead. The miso is legit. It’s hearty and delicious. The rest of the food was fantastic too, we are all STUFFED and we’ll be coming back!

Originally planned to have sushi at another restaurant but this is my friend’s favorite sushi spot and suggested i try it. Met him here and was immediately greeted and seated by a server. They had a happy hour special 20% off any roll or buy one get one 20% off on the house and special rolls. Ordered mango roll(had real mango like that Thai dessert — sticky rice and mango), Lion king roll — to die for, charger roll(cz im a SD Chargers fan), volcano roll(yummy), spider roll(in my tummy). Also, ordered crab wantons and calamari. Fresh and delicious. The crab wantons had a good amount of soft crème cheese in it and their calamari were huge & crispy, at first i thought they were onion rings. Anyways, this place is really good. Definitely coming back.

Having been to this plaza a few times, I was always puzzled by the«Chinese House» sign as it’s not very often that a Chinese restaurant completely escapes my notice. While we should have recognized the warning signs when we couldn’t find any such place listed on Unilocal or elsewhere online, my date and I decided to try and check it out. Except there’s no there there. What *is* there is Obi’s sushi, which we decided to check out since we were already standing in front of it. After we sat, I asked the presumed owner about the«Chinese House» sign. Apparently the landlord makes them keep it up there in addition to having a few Chinese dishes on their otherwise Japanese menu.(I should note that I couldn’t discern any actual«Chinese» dishes on the menu, but we live in a land where teriyaki beef is considered Chinese.) This all makes perfect sense of course… Obi’s Sushi ends up being a pretty standard California-style fusion sushi place. Which means, in part, that it can be hard to find a sushi roll that doesn’t have either avocado or imitation crab, neither of which I particularly care for.(Yes, I don’t like avocado; deal with it.) Like its peers, I think Obi’s has about two that fit the bill, and I chose the«San Diego Roll,» which turned out to have avocado after all. I honestly can’t remember what else was on it as it’s been a while; I just remember that it was pretty average; neither amazingly good nor agonizingly bad. Hence an average score for Obi’s. Summary: Obi-Wan’s didn’t reveal the secret of my parentage, but it didn’t disclose the nature of the mysterious«Chinese House.»

Sooo… date night rolls around and I was in the mood for Chinese food. I frequent Bangkok Spices Thai in the same shopping area and my eyes were always drawn to this place called«Chinese House» a few doors down. I searched and searched Unilocal and the internet for«Chinese House» on Murphy Canyon Road. Could it be that«Chinese House» was undiscovered? I emailed my date a picture and approximate address of «Chinese House» and told him to meet me there at 5pm. We probably looked pretty stupid, because we were like, «Where is the door to this«Chinese House? Is it around on the other side of the building?» I think both of us were too embarrassed to ask, so we just decided on Obi’s Sushi. My date mustered up the courage to ask about the«Chinese House» sign and apparently the landlord won’t let them take it down. I don’t quite understand the issue, but it’s weird nevertheless. Anyway, for dinner I went with the stir fried ginger beef plate that comes with two pieces of gyoza, house salad, and either egg rolls, cali maki, or calamari.(I went with the egg rolls.) The ginger beef had a lot of flavor and was very tender. I didn’t care too much gyoza and egg rolls though. They tasted doughy. All in all, I obviously didn’t get my Chinese food for the night, but at least I got something stir fried for dinner.

I stopped in for happy because they offered $ 3 draft Japanese beers, Sapporo or Asahi, and if you know me, I just had to gets some eats as well. That being said, I had several ice cold Sapporos and ordered some calamari rings, a salmon skin roll, my fellow Unilocaler in crime, ordered the soft shell crab roll, mussel dynamite, and some Hot Sake. The fried calamari rings were the best thing I ate, not including the couple of ice cold Asahi. The calamari rings were very well fried, crispy, and came with a very nice color and side of chipotle mayo( ). The calamari inside was sweet and tender, and we appreciated the thickness of the lightly cooked succulent meat( ). With a little squirt of fresh lemon juice and light dip in the sauce, these were just grand. I was not very impressed with the salmon skin roll. First of all, it came with overly sticky rice that gave the roll a strange texture. The salmon skin inside was okay, but was mostly dry and over done, however it was nicely presented( ). I tried one of the mussel dynamites and it was good, but the soft shell crab roll suffered from the same overly sticky rice, which took away from the star of the roll, the crab. Service was nice and attentive… and great happy hour beer prices.
