We have had Dr. Ehlers as our family physician for about 10 years. Everyone in our family trusts him and appreciates his thoughtful, professional and intelligent approach to our care. He has a quick wit and personable manner. It does take some time to get on his schedule but we don’t mind waiting so see him.

Our family LOVES Dr. Ehlers! He was my father-in-law’s doctor for years and literally pulled him from death’s doorstep. He became his doctor and more! Dad loved him and the office so much, he would bake breads, cakes and brownies and drop them off randomly when he was in town. About five years ago, Dr. Ehlers became both my and my husband’s doctor, and it doesn’t even bother me that I drive from Orange County for my appointments. He is worth the drive! I have never had such a thorough physical! AND… I have never had to wait months as stated in one of the reviews. However, I do plan my routine physicals in advance, because it’s not urgent in nature and I’m not in a hurry. That being said, we have always been able to get in within quickly when the need was more urgent. Hey…there’s a reason why Dr. Ehlers is the doctor for all the other doctors! He’s the best!

See, the problem is — if you want to see Dr. Ehlers 3 or 4 months from now, ok, make your appt now. If you want to see Dr. Ehlers within a few days, ha, dream on! Both times I actually met with the man, I had to make the appt months in advance. The only other communication I had with Dr. Ehlers himself, was when I reacted to an antibiotic. He was the doctor on-call that night for the practice, so he had to deal with it. Man, it wasn’t even late and night, but the man was so irritable I felt like I was begging for help. Dude! You’re my f*cking doctor! So who do I see? Well the beloved NP Diane retired. My PA became part-time and also impossible to get an appt with. So I was«adopted» by a new PA, who just twice tried to kill me this past week by suggesting absolutely inappropriate medications. If I listened to her and started taking either one of the two he was about to prescribe, I would either 1. end up in the Emergency Room, or 2. end up in the Emergency Room after contacting Poison Control. I actually am on Unilocal right now to search for a new doctor. I kid you not!!! Why the hell am I giving Dr. Ehlers 2 stars? Cuz on the off chance you see him once in a couple of years, he’s not bad.

Dr. Ehlers has been my primary care physician for years. In addition to being knowledgeable, but not arrogant about it, he has a sense of humor and warmth about him, like you might expect from a family doctor out in a small town. I suppose that has something to do with how booked up he is all the time! If you want a doctor of internal medicine who is up-to-date with technology, but still treats you like a human being, here’s one! Book your appointment well in advance! He’s in high demand for good reason!
