Flot is a small business in the most accurate sense of the term. With maybe 300 square feet of breathing room for serving coffee and other drinkable vittles, it’s not a capacious environment. This makes the critical feedback that much harder to offer, especially since the proprietor was a conscientious fellow with his heart in the right place. I sought out this coffee shop purely for their Bulletproof Coffee. For the uninitiated, it’s the modern health-hipster’s preferred method of drinking coffee with promised health benefits stemming from emulsified butter and coconut oil infused into the drink. I’m a huge fan and make it at home often. If you follow the Bulletproof style to the letter, it requires grass fed butter and an elevated strain of coconut oil. It’s a trademarked recipe. Here, their version of Bulletproof Coffee includes Earth Balance butter and various adjunct ingredients. Earth Balance is a vegan butter, not grass fed, and the addition of maca and maple are therefore an abdication of the original. It’s like ordering a Red Bull & vodka cocktail and getting a screwdriver. Annoying, but that wasn’t the crux of my disappointment. After preparing my coffee drink with the acuity of a vocational pro, he learned he had nothing but small to-go cups in stock. To pacify the lack of a large cup, he offered to pour my purchase into two small cups. With baggage in tow, that was an impossible alternative. He moved to plan B; pouring half of my large coffee into a small cup. He left the other half of the drink I bought in the blender and didn’t offer any kind of discount. Simply said«sorry» and wished me well. I can’t fathom a situation where that’s a vetted customer service solution. This small coffee shop has the potential to be great. Adversity dovetails into our professional lives often, and the reaction to that fork in the road is what great businesses do well. I hope my experience is an anomaly, and this review can be a benchmark for improved customer service moving forward.

It’s been over a month since our weekend in San Diego and I’m still thinking about the acai bowl from here. My daughter and I were walking around after visiting the San Diego Museum of Modern Art and she wanted an acai bowl when we saw a menu chalkboard on the sidewalk. What is a Flot I asked her since she’s really good with her SAT vocabulary. She said she didn’t know but she knew what a flotsam was, lol… The Flot juice/coffee bar was a little hard to find but it’s in the basement of some businesses that are not open on weekends. They had juices, nitrogen cold brew on tap, bulletproof coffee and all the stuff I love at home. Although they had ran out of a lot of toppings, I told him it was fine to make make it with whatever they had. Their bowl typically has coconut, bananas, berries, hempseed and the most amazing granola that has toffee like chunks. The guy who helped us from Hawaii was really nice and even offered me tastings of their coffees but he was slicing the fruit and preparing the food bareback: O

I found this place because I was jonesing for an acai bowl. At $ 6.50, the bowl was a good size but otherwise very disappointing. The acai was blended with almond milk and ice, which created a very icy and watery consistency. The bowl was topped with about 3 pieces of strawberries and 2 pieces of sliced banana. Seriously, I wished I had gone elsewhere to satisfy my craving. The only saving grace was I enjoyed one of their«tonics» which are basically a shot of juice elixir. This juice/coffee bar is a little hard to find. It’s on the bottom floor inside the McClintock building. There’s so seating, but you can sit on the patio outside the building that’s a part of Stone Brewery. Moral of the story: stick to juice or coffee at this spot.

This place is a small quick café but all of their items are SUPERHIGHQUALITY! They went the extra mile to do things right. Places where most cafes skimp they used better(usually more expensive and why cafes skimp) ingredients. Love what this place represents and and their prices are friendly too.

I go to Core40 upstairs in the building and found this place after a sweaty workout. They have fresh juices, coffee and healthy snacks. But what really keeps me going back is the acai bowl. It’s the best in downtown and I’ve tried a lot of them. They mix the acai with coconut water which I think is the secret to why it is so amazing. It’s light and not too sugary. It’s super coconutty and I crave it all the time. You should try it!

This place is pretty hidden, if it weren’t for the sign out front I wouldn’t have known about it. Enter in through either Stone or the little bistro and go down the stairs. It’s a tiny little nook of a coffee shop, only enough room for the barista and a fridge of juices(& a cute guard dog out front) & it’s actually a part of the spa of the same name. I really wanted to love this place but the coffee wasn’t up to par. I was excited to try their cold brew on nitro, and the barista kindly gave me a sample of it… and I’m glad he did so I knew NOT to get it! It was so so sour and tasted old… It didn’t have any of the creaminess that I expected from nitro coffee. I ended up getting the butter coffee and it was alright(coconut oil, butter, cinnamon.) but nothing too special and definitely not worth the $ 6 or so I paid. I also got a 2oz tonic shot(2.50 ish) and it was a nice pick me up but again, nothing too special. Overall I think their drip coffee is OK if you’re in NEED of coffee while in the area, but a bit over priced.

I am becoming quite fond of many of the juice cafes around town. This located the McClintock Building downtown San Diego, they not only make healthy juice drinks and great coffees, but they also make some great Acai Bowls, as I experienced. Acai bowl was quite good. It was not the largest I have had, and at $ 6.90 it was not a bad deal. The bowl came with freshly sliced bananas and strawberries sliced up on the spot. The bananas were at a perfect ripeness and the strawberries juicy and sweet. The the granola was crunchy and tasty and the coconut had a nice chewy texture to it, not to mention a great coconut island flavor. I think they were out of berries, because I did not get any, but I did get some terrific tasting organic honey on top. The Acai berries were well blended, cool to the touch, and had that great unique natural acai berry flavor. I liked that it was equally smooth throughout and with a gentle iciness. The lady who owns and runs the juice bar is very ice and knowledgeable regarding her product offerings. The place does not have any seating, but you can sit right up stairs in Stone Brewery’s outside patio.

An amazing place! I’ve never liked coffee– i hated it! My son brought me here. The proprietor, Mirko, made me «bullet proof» coffee. Like liquid tiramisu, I now want to drink coffee!!!

The Cold Brew coffee is amazing and thats coming from a coffee nerd, there cold pressed juices and tonics were so good as well. The owner and his wife were extremly knowledge and welcoming. I will be back, and I highly recommend trying it for yourself. Good people.

Located in the historic McClintock building in the Columbia District of downtown San Diego. This innovative coffee & juice shop is exactly what the neighborhood needs! Fresh juices and tonics. Fresh Gluten Free baked goods to go with incredible artisanal coffee and tea. I love the cold press coffee and can’t go a day without one of their hot coffees. If you live or work in the neighborhood or are catching a train, this is your place for coffee and snacks!
