It was my first visit to San Diego. I was visiting from Canada, I wanted to find a real deal Mom and Pop taco stand. I think I found it. Had the fish tacos(absolutely delicious) and the potato tacos(really great) and a soft drink. Had a great chat with the owners(who I guess thought I wasn’t a local) when I told them I was visiting from Canada. What a fabulous place, the real deal, the food is homemade and wonderful. Next time I go to SD, I’m going to Gloria’s Taco Shop!

Decent Taco shop. Prices are about average for a meal. There is a small dining area with about four tables. I ordered a carne asada burrito, it was a decent size but there wasn’t a lot of meat but a lot of salsa and lettuce. They use a lot of fillers in their burrito

The only thing better than the horchata, is Jose’s smile when you walk in the door. Super friendly and good, fresh Mexican food. The carne asada is great and the California burritos are especially delicious. Jose has never let me down!

This is our usual Mexican haunt in San Diego. My wife ordered a Chile Rellenos burrito today and asked if she could add Carne Asada. She said it was one of the best burritos she’s ever had. The owner is genuinely happy to see us and he makes quality food(let’s not forget how excellent his cheeseburger special is). We keep coming back here all the time, trying different things from the menu, and have not been disappointed.

Reviews on the Carne Asada Fries = Ok. The flavor of the meat could be tastier. Hot Sauce, not so hot.

#1 out the #2 in less than five minutes, I would only recommend Gloria’s to someone who wants a good cleansing of their colon

Very good fish tacos. Service was quick and friendly. Tacos were spot on with good salsa. Don’t really know what that green stuff was but it added good flavor without being too spicy.

Best breakfast burritos in San Diego. I get the vegetarian one, and my husband gets the meat burritos. Excellent tortillas. It’s a small family owned and operated business. They are always so friendly. We like to take burritos over to Balboa Park and sit outside since it’s so close.

Did you hear? Gloria’s changed their name to: Hangover Cheeseburger Sometimes you go just a little too hard. You think you’re 21 again, you fill some water bottles full of vodka and smuggle them into a crawfish boil — typical Sunday. It’s days like this that make the following day a little rough on the mind and body, and make you swear off booze for life. Enter the Mexican cheeseburger. It’s no secret that I love burgers from Mexican joints. I’ve said it before(on my previous Gloria’s review), I’ll say it again, «they’re so good!» Seriously, cooking a frozen beef patty on a grill that’s been dishing out seasoned carne asada, carnitas and pollo all day really makes a difference in my eyes. It has the ability to clear my foggy head, strengthen my weak knees, stabilize my shaky hands and relieve most of the body pain — I just love it! Under $ 5.00 for a cheeseburger, fries and a soda… sold. Best burger ever? No. Best burger in the right moment? Yes.

I have been eating at Gloria’s every morning sense I discovered this gem. The owner, Jose, makes my food anyway I want it. If I want to add a little of this or a little of that… no problem. I love this little hole in the wall that all the locals know about. Its where we eat, and where we bring our friends. Its not big and fancy, its just good no… great Mexican home cooking that you will remember. Jose make his own salsa that is wonderful. It’s the love that makes this place what we call home. Jose and his beautiful wife Gloria, have given us a family that doesn’t make us wash the dish’s. I love you both for this wonderful Mexican food. From your 70 year old Jewish mama… this food will bring you back, again and again. But Jose’s and Gloria’s smile’s will bring you love.

Most of the Mexican joints in my neighborhood(Golden Hill) have lard in the beans. Bummer for a burrito-loving vegetarian. A little too recently, the hubby and I were recovering from a late night of swimming in martinis at Turf Club and craved breakfast burritos. I gave Gloria’s a call(on a whim) and was SHOCKED to learn they offer vegetarian lard-free burritos! Not to mention the guy on the phone was super friendly and helpful. Vegetarian friendly taco shop within walking distance: a blessing and a curse. No exaggeration, we went on a Gloria’s bender for a few days. A few lbs later, after working our way through most of the menu, I can honestly say this is one of the best little taco shops in the city. My meat-eating lard-bean preferring husband agrees. He’s a big fan of the CaliBurrito. Love having this place around the corner… even though my waistline lives in constant fear of the phrase, «Wanna order Gloria’s?»

La torta de chorizo, gotta have it, good mexican food got some delicious salsa and the owners are really nice down to earth people. It’s a little hole in the wall but puts out really good authentic mexican food

Worst Mexican food I’ve ever had. Heard a microwave in kitchen while waiting for food. Soggy taco. Horrible orange cheese in enchilada. Fish taco may have been the microwaved item and tasted uncooked.

Trying Gloria’s Taco Shop for the first time. It takes a while. Minimum of 15 minutes but it is fresh and tasty.

I was extremely excited to try this place based on the reviews. My boyfriend was picking up some food from next door and I couldn’t help but to try their food as well. I went with the beef chimichanga with rice and beans on the side. The lady who was helping us was very nice and did not hesitate to give us extra hot sauce being that I like to smother my food in hot sauce. When I cut into the chimichanga, it was not crunchy what so ever, who knows it could’ve gotten soggy on the ride home so I didn’t worry too much about it. I took a few bites and never got any meat. I kept going and going hoping I’d run into some, but by the end of the burrito, I realized that it was 95% salsa fresco and 5% shredded beef… BOO!!! The enchilada sauce it was smothered in had no flavor, there was barely any sour cream or guacamole(a strip of each), the rice was cooked with too much water(soggy) and very bland and the refried beans were dry and chunky as if it had been sitting out all day. I gave them two stars because I have yet to try their other dishes, but after my experience, I’m not sure I’d want to take another gamble.

This place is pretty yummy. It’s definitely got the dive look about it, so don’t let that scare you off. I went with the roommates on Friday night and there is just this one dude making all the food and taking all the orders. Really nice guy. My one complaint is with what I ordered. I got a chorizo plate and the meat was cut with eggs. I’ve never seen it prepared this way so I was disappointed as I’m not a huge fan of egg. I would say it was like 60% egg and 40% chorizo. It still tasted fine and the sides were good, but, I won’t lie I felt a little cheated. Should have ordered the carne asada plate, which my roommate got and was really good. Other roommate got beef tacos which were so-so. The prices are great here, but it’s not the best Mexican food ever by any stretch.
