Loved our food here today! Great deal on Taco Tuesday — you choose two tacos for $ 5. Lots of drink specials, too. We were tempted, the margaritas looked great, but hey, it was a work lunch. Clean, cute, great service and food. Even the owner came by to chat with us and tell us how the menu uses his family recipes from Mexico City. Even homemade tortillas. We can’t wait to return!

Best Mexican food in Hillcrest!!! Their tacos are amazing and they have fantastic drinks! The people that work here are so nice, the guy working the bar is the best bartender I’ve ever encountered. Every time I go here it’s a great time. 10⁄10 I’ll definitely be here every time I want Mexican food!

Eeek, I seem to be an anomaly, but I wasn’t overly blown away by La Vecindad. I dig the concept — picnic table style dining, with a casual, order-at-the-counter vibe, but the food was not entirely what I was expecting. My tacos, while good, were pretty average and dripping in grease. I am not used to getting greasy tacos, and I wasn’t a fan. I think this type of establishment is definitely a welcome addition to Hillcrest, as there always seems to be either the hole-in-the-wall type places with limited seating, or the nicer sit-down places with full service. La Vecindad seems to strike a balance between the two, offering a full bar and a large menu. I’m willing to go back and give it another try in the future.

Went here for Taco Tuesday(2 for $ 5) and was very impressed! The Costa Azul was my favorite with so many different flavors, but the carne Asada was also good just mostly tons of meat and onions. Also the jalapeño crema sauce was incredible! Definitely will be back!

Very good service. Friendly staff. The food, though, not very good. Everything was very bland, no salt, no spice. Fine place to grab a drink and some chips, but skip the dinner.

This place has a TON of room for improvement. Charging $ 2 for tortilla chips is tacky. To add insult to injury, the salsa bar is pretty terrible. Tacos were fairly portioned, but also pretty bland. Chicken taco had too much fat/cartilage to be enjoyable, and everything could have benefited from pico. Our group also found the water situation to be frustrating; tiny cups of warm water are just stupid. I’d like to like this spot more, but there are too many great taco spots in this city to give La Vecindad more than one or two more tries.

Went to this place to check it out for ourselves after reading great reviews, DIDNOTDISSAPOINT! This place is owned by 3 brothers we met Tonio(hope I spelled that right) as we ate our delicious food I said to my partner this has to be family recipes.. as Tonio was telling us about his 4 month old restaurant he says these are all family recipes, I knew it! We had the pozole, al pastor taco, shrimp taco & carne asada taco. Double thumbs up all the way around.

I definitely agree with the other diners who gave La Vecindad 5 stars. If you want delicious food like you’d have in Mexico(but even better), you must try this restaurant. Tonio, the owner, is a gracious host and outgoing. The food, ohhhhhh, supreme. Today was Taco Tuesday, 2 tacos for $ 5. And when you see how much you get in these tacos and their high quality, you realize you’re getting a great deal. Today we shared pescado, carne asada, and chile relleno tacos with a side of frijoles. The pescado was encased in a light, crunchy coating that enhanced the mild fish. The crema was a tasty complement. The carne asada was also delicious and was covered with guacamole that was divine. The chile relleno taco was also tops, though maybe with a bit too much rice. Thank goodness we can walk there and get a 2.5-mile round trip walk that covers at least some of the calories, because we’re coming back!

I came here for Taco Tuesday where they have a 2 tacos for $ 5 deal. I ordered the campechano, al pastor, carne asada, and pollo asada tacos. As soon as I bit into the campechano, my hands and plate were covered in oil. The tortilla was falling apart from being drenched in its own oiliness. I decided it was a fluke, but when I bit into the al pastor, same thing. The carne asada and pollo asada weren’t as bad, but they were unremarkable. Sadly, not even the salsa bar could save these tacos. Service was great, however. The servers came around often, checking in on us several times during our meal which I appreciated. I wanted to love this place especially since the staff were so attentive and friendly, but the food was mediocre at best.

Food was delicious and spectacular. Comforting environment and friendly vibes all around. The owner tony sat down with us and talked to us asking how the food was. Couldn’t find anything negative on this restaurant. Only open for a couple of months but I’m sure they’ll be here a while. Stop by and try the breakfast taco on Sunday’s! #DaBomb

Really cute and delicious Mexican food spot! The décor is super cute, hip, fun, and bright. I was drawn to the wall art that says«TACOSBEFOREVATOS» because that’s one of my many life mottos & I definitely have an invisible tattoo of that phrase across my chest. We came in for Taco Tuesday and the deal is 2 for $ 5 and the tacos are originally $ 3.75 each! So that’s a pretty good discount. The taco menu is pretty extensive and I believe there’s around 6 – 8 different taco options? We got the Pescado, the Al Pastor, and the Costa Azul tacos. All were great and full of flavor and good amount of meat and veggies. In addition to tacos, we got the Aguachile which was pricey at $ 14, but they provide a LOT of shrimp. This dish is pretty spicy and it definitely builds up, but the avocado, onions, and cucumbers that come with it do help minimize the heat. The shrimp slowly cooks within the agua chile, but even though not cooked all the way, the shrimp was still very good and juicy. Overall, the food was very good, but they did run out of avocado for some of our tacos as well as chips for the Agua Chile. I am very understanding when it comes to restaurants running out and it happens! But our Agua Chile had avocados, so that was kinda confusing, and I’ve never really seen a restaurant run out of chips, especially at a Mexican restaurant. Regardless, the food quality, even with the lack of these food additions, was still good. We also ordered the house margaritas which were around $ 3-$ 4 and were super duper strong. Oh my goodness, my brother and I both got buzzed off of one. They’re freaking good and deceivingly powerful cause there’s so little of it and most restaurants I’ve been to give larger, more diluted margaritas. This place has worthy ones! For dessert, got the Churros con helado which I thought was okay. The Churros are filled and the ice cream is topped off with whipped cream and chocolate too. In all, I did like this restaurant though and their main food is made of gooooood quality. The ambience is really chill and fun with a good amount of seating(mostly communal bench tables) and the service overall is extremely friendly and cool too. I’d recommend this place to mis amigos for sure.

Power outage and this was the only spot open but thank goodness it was because I love this place! Stopped in for lunch I ordered a chicken bowl and side order of tortilla chips with fresh made guacamole. I left out the onions, cheese and sour cream. The bowl is incredibly filling, it’s stuffed with chicken, rice, shredded lettuce, guacamole, and black beans. Paired with their awesome salsa bar choices I was in heaven! I saved the other half for tomorrow. The guacamole is fresh with onion and cilantro. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. They have a great sized bar with a large selection of refreshments. It’s family friendly. The restaurant is so bright and lively. The decorations really add something special. They have bar seats and bench seating. The music is bumping in the background and they have televisions. It was just a fun spot enjoy my lunch with my co workers during the power outage. We’ll be back for refreshments after the work day! They’ve only been open for 3 months but it seems like they’ve been here forever. It’s a really nice addition Hillcrest!

Just had lunch here after finding this place on Unilocal, and I loved it! Heard from the server that they’ve just been open for a couple months. They have a pretty big menu but my eyes were focused on the tacos. Tacos were $ 3.75 each and the special-monday was mahi mahi taco was $ 4 each. I ordered a california taco and the bacon wrapped shrimp taco. The california taco is carne asada topped with french fries, cheese, cream sauce, sliced tomatoes and cilantro on a corn tortilla-it was my fave. I liked it so much, I had to order another one or I knew I’d regret it. The bacon wrapped shrimp taco was also good but the california taco stole the show. They had a lot of other taco options as well as a large drink menu. The guac and chips were also delish as was the complimentary salsa. Server was very friendly and accommodating. Place had a cool, modern vibe. Definitely will be back if I’m in the area, and highly recommend this place. Parking was tough, but we finally found a meter further away.

This place is just getting underway with their Mexican Cuisine and libations. I came in for lunch and ordered their Monday special, the blackened grilled fish taco for $ 4 and chile relleno taco for $ 3.75. Now, the blackened fish taco tasted great, but the problem was that they barely put any fish in the taco. It was one single thin rectangular prism about as wide as a lego and the length of two. For $ 4, I would expect at least three pieces of the same portion of a the fish or half a filet which is the norm for most fish tacos. The Ensenada sauce was light and flavorful, the red cabbage and mango relish was good, and the the lemon and habanero had a nice little kick. With more fish, this taco will be a winner. The chile relleno taco came with a poblano pepper stuffed with Oaxaca cheese, served with Mexican rice, and Ranchero sauce in the corn tortilla taco. I liked the flavor of the relleno and the use of the great for melting flavorful Oaxaca cheese. However, as good as the flavor of the pepper was, it was a little under cooked, so the right texture was not to be. It was firm to the bite, not soft and tender. The Mexican rice was good. It was seasoned well and had a light herb and tomato flavor. Oh yes, they forgot to put the«Ranchero» sauce on my taco, which I was looking forward to trying, so I put some of the salsa from the salsa bar on and it was good with some heat. They offer a small but very good salsa bar. My favorite was the green salsa because it offered a good balance between acidity and sourness with a hint of sweet. The red salsa was heat, red pepper, and tomato all the way. The gents working at the eatery were very hospitable and I observed them visiting tables and acquiring feedback from customers. The place offers comfortable seating, including some large picnic like benches, and festive colors throughout.
