This was a late night stop for a quick bite and being from new York I have high expectations for pizza. This pizza was authentic and tasted like a slice I had back in new York made by my Italian neighbor who would make her own sauce by crushing the tomatoes with her feet. Good pizza that is definitely worth a try!!!

Lu Pizzetta offers a unique variation on what might be affectionately called dive-style pizza, tight and cramped, but with miniature pizzas on display in its glass case instead of just slices. Much like how one eats a New York-style slice, the default method for eating Lu’s product is folding the whole thing in half. However, eating a whole pizza this way ends up being much more sanitary and pleasant than pizza by the slice. But yet I have misgivings. When you order your pizza, the eponymous Mr. Lu takes the«base»(crust plus sauce plus cheese) out of the glass case, adds some toppings(in my case pepperoni and sausage) and sends the now complete pizza quickly through the oven to warm it up. As Mr. Lu mentions in responses to other reviews, and as I mentioned above, this is pretty standard. At the same time, I think there’s a conceptual mismatch between ordering 360 degrees of pizza and not having it being made from scratch. Mr. Lu mentions in one comment that the customer can always ask for an entirely fresh one, but I do wonder why that’s not the default or at least offered as an explicit choice upon ordering. Especially given the fact that, while the base price is pretty cheap, the price can rise pretty steeply with the addition of toppings. All this is to say, I like Lu’s pizza, but it could be better. Hopefully, on my next visit, it will be because I’ll know to order it fresh. That said, the other downside is the unfortunate location, right next to a nail salon, meaning that, in the height of summer, we’re talking fume town. Which, you know, might be your thing. Summary: Fresh is best.

Stumbled into this small pizzeria alone and semi-drunk on a late Friday night in PB while hoping my car is parked on the same street.(It was, thank god) With the recommendation of the owner, Luca, I ordered a Rossa pizza with sausage and zucchini. He told me this was one of his favorite pizzas. It was absolutely delicious! The pizza is thin and they tell you to fold I together like a calzone to eat it like the proper way in Italy, but when you are intoxicated and hungry, you just eat it. The crust was chewy and super fresh and the ingredients went together so well. I loved the pizza sauce base. Close to $ 7 for a small pizza that will fill you up. The crust is SO great! It is a really small location, no bathroom. Just a quick order grab-n-go. No alcohol. There’s a small table inside to eat. The pizza comes out very fast after they pop it in the oven. Really good pizza, really great friendly Italian hospitality :) Luca and Andrea are both funny friendly dudes. would definitely come back. We need more legit pizzerias in San Diego.

Lu Pizzetta is run by a super friendly and chill guy named Lucas, Italian through and through and always good for a chat. I had a spinach, artichoke and mozzarella pizza on the white base and it was devine — made fresh in front of me and cooked to perfection in just a few minutes. The base was perfect, so crispy and wirh a perfect crust, but still soft ontop. They can get expensive if youre wanting to add a lot of extra meats or cheese, but do keep in mind — its Italian style, not American so expect quality over quantity! Its authentic, and just delightful.

I was visiting San Diego & was craving something of the pizza variety. So glad Unilocal exists. This was hands down… best calzone ever! I wish I could go back. I wonder if they deliver to Milwaukee? :)

Walking in we were warmly greeted by I believe Mr. Lu himself. The menu was pretty simple; pick a base(or crust), and add your proteins and veggies. Keep in mind that adding protein and veggies really can add up. Protein(pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham and anchovies) are $ 1.50 each, while veggies are $ 0.50 each. Onion and/or garlic will also be an extra $ 0.10 per pizzetta. I went with the«Rossa» base(mozzarella and tomato sauce) and added pepperoni and mushrooms. I am disappointed that the base(crust, sauce, and cheese) just sits in an acrylic box on the counter top, waiting to be heated up with the protein and veggies. Who knows how long it sits there? This place only has 1 table inside, and on a hot day you certainly don’t want to sit there. One breath of the neighboring nail shop’s fumes might make you pass out. My date and I opted for the patio seating in the front to try to take in the ocean breeze. In less than 10 minutes, our 7 inch pizza on the go came out. Like I’ve seen in other pictures here, I folded it over and started munching. The crust was indeed delicious. I loved the crunch of the outside crust and the soft and doughiness of the inside. The pepperoni was pretty average along with the amount of grease that compiled on my plate. I appreciate that Lu Pizzetta is trying to carve out a unique niche in the pizza world with their 7 inch fold over pizza on the go. The crust was indeed good, but how much better could it be if it was made to order rather than sitting on a shelf and waiting to be purchased? Hmmm… hopefully we’ll find out someday.

What a great find in PB. Tucked away on Cass street just north of Garnet is a pizza place as good as it gets. No pretense, just great food. I had a custom calzone, with my standby ingredients of pepperoni and mushroom. The eggwashed crust was perfect, the inside had just the right amount of tasty sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni and mushroom. I can’t wait to order a full pie. Best pizza in PB hands down! The owner is extremely courteous and very obliging.

Let me just say that this is one of the more authentic pizza places in San Diego. When you go there don’t expect your typical American style pizza. My parents are from the same area of Italy that the owner is from. I’ve been several times to that area plus I got this type of food everyday for 35 years from my mother. Sad to say living here for the past five years that this kind of food is hard to come by. Until now. Lu Pizzetta has taken me home. The pizzettas are delicious. The service is fantastic. Please make this place a big success so the owner can expand and expose San Diego to the rest of what Abruzzo, Italy is all about. Simple, healthy, traditional, delicious and inexpensive. Bravo!!! Lu Pizzetta!!!

Great little hole in the wall place! You can walk right by it if you aren’t careful! You will find the owner Luca right in there making the pizzas and calzones. He was so welcoming and inviting, he could tell it was my first time and explained how it worked. You order your base and then add any topping you want. The ham is just superb!

I tried Lu Pizzetta for the first time last night for dinner. The Pepperoni Pizzetta was loaded with pepperoni, the crust was delicious, and I became so obsessed that I just had another one for lunch today! My husband decided to try one for lunch too(pepperoni and mushroom) and he raved about how fantastic it was and how nice the owner is. They have a buy 9 get 1 free card too which is awesome. Great food and a must try!

Saw the good Unilocal reviews so decided to come here for a quick, casual dinner bite with my husband. It was so good! The pizza is different than the typical kind we are used to in the US. Thinner and light on the cheese… but it’s like the authentic Italian street food I loved when I visited Italy. So excited to have something like this in PB now! The ingredients are fresh and tasty and don’t make you feel guilty after eating it. It’s better to be there with only 1 – 2 other people if you want to dine in because there’s not much seating room. Fun little ambiance! Coming back!

On a long bike ride from La Jolla last night, I experienced a sudden craving for pizza. Perhaps it was because I recently attempted that gluten free thing, or perhaps because I love pizza more than most parts of living. «I NEED pizza now,» I said to my husband while cruising down the boardwalk. «Yelp something,» he smartly replied. A quick Unilocal peruse later, we ended up on the quaint doorstep of Lu Pizzetta where we met Luca. I have to say, I was skeptical at first. When I think pizza I think massive pies sizzling with tomato sauce and gooey cheese beckoning me to consume the entire thing. Lu Pizzetta’s pizzas are a different story(an even better story, and straight from the pizza motherland«Italy» where the very sweet Luca is from). Think warm, crisp yet soft, salty yet sweet bread as the crust, homemade savory tomato sauce with a light natural cheese, all folded together to create one of the best things to have ever hit my tastebuds. My poor husband — I spent the majority of our bike ride back to La Jolla obsessing over how amazingly delicious it was(he agreed, he just wasn’t as vocal about it). WEWILLBEBACK.

Checked out Lu Pizzetta after reading about the cool concept of grab and go pizza. I had seen the sign up for a bit, and I thought«Oh great another pizza place!» We truly have a number of them in PB. I was happy to learn that yes, it’s a pizza place but with a total new concept. The place is small with limited seating but given the type of food– it makes sense. I like being able to grab food that’s easy to eat and eat while multitasking(riding your bike, walking, driving, etc…) well you shouldn’t drive and eat, but we do it. Usually you drive while holding a burrito, pizzetta could be the new thing :) I ordered the vegetarian pizzetta with olives, artichokes and mushrooms I asked if I could add pepperonis and they kindly did. My bf had the Pizzetta Pescara, which comes with sausage, mushrooms and onions. It was also very good. The dough was crispy on the outside(which I love) and more doughy on the inside. I prefer crispy and my bf prefers doughy so I guess it’s the best of both worlds. They also have calzones, and a Nutella/banana combo for the sweet tooth lovers. They were both $ 6.50 each, it’s definitely a good alternative to sandwiches or burritos if you are looking for a quick inexpensive bite. I would definitely check them out next time you are in PB.

This is a cool little pizza joint that specializes in Italian street food. It’s small, with a few seats out in front, but non inside. The food is meant to be eaten on the spot or taken with you in your hand to eat as you walk. I ordered the Pizzetta Pescara with Tomato Sauce, Sausage, Mushrooms, and Onions for $ 6.50 named after the owners home town. In the the display, the pizzetta are flat, but when they arrive, it is folded and wrap with paper and a napkin for easy eating. What was very unique about the pizzetta was the crust. It similar to Foccacia bread dough but formed into a pizza crust. It was crusty on the outside and a nice light golden brown with pockets of a darker brown. Inside was a moist soft center with great flavor. The toppings were great. The sausage, although not house made, was of good quality and savory. The sauce was a little sweet but good, the mushrooms were tender to the touch and tasty. I liked the onions but more cheese would of been good. I added a good of amount of grated Parmesan cheese. If you go from 12 pm to 6 pm, you can get a Pizzetta and a drink for $ 6. The owner Luca is a very enthusiastic fellow. You can tell he has a lot of passion and desire to do well. With the Pizzetta I tried, I pretty sure he will.

Lu Pizzetta is in the soft opening stage and still working things out, so I can’t give a full review yet. But I wanted to get the name out there so people will stop by! This place is a great concept for the area. The restaurant is just a walkup with no room for seating, so Luca is serving little pizzas folded in half and wrapped in paper. They’re very easy to walk away with and to eat on the go. Perfect for the end of a night on the town or the start of an afternoon at the beach. Like I said, there are things to work out, but the crust on the pizza is fabulous. It’s crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and bursting with flavor. I’m looking forward to coming back again after their full launch.
