I Had The Time Of My Night at Moonshine Flats… the dancing is so much fun! The staff are outstanding in personality and assistance and just the entire atmosphere was outstandingly positive… even the crowd! Me and my girlfriends had such a blast! I literally danced my feet off in 6 inchers! I felt like I could fly… cannot wait to come back and dance again… I told them I was going to brag the heck out of this place and I mean it! Thank you Moonshine Flats and staff… You guys were a real good time

I was a little iffy coming in here as I’m not really into country music but I have to say I love this place! They have every bar game under the sun, the bartenders are super easy to talk to and didn’t mind all my pesky drink questions! I seriously felt so relaxed here and met some awesome people, the drink prices are very reasonable too!

For a downtown San Diego staple, I’m sad to have to write a negative review. However, when I was there this past Saturday night I ran a tab at the bar and the bartender took my drivers license and credit card. When I closed the tab out, the bartender returned both to me and without looking, I put them in my wallet. I did not guess that they would have given me the wrong ID, because that has never happened before. Sure enough, after leaving the bar I realized I had the wrong person’s license. I returned and they claimed to look but did not find it… but had no problem taking the other person’s ID from me. I was given the GM’s business card and told to follow up with him. Two days ago, I emailed the GM and have received NORESPONSE from him. Nothing. Not even an «I’m sorry, we can’t find it.» Nothing. No response. FROMTHEGM! This is a terrible inconvenience because I am flying out of out of the country next week and am supposed to be driving a rental car. The fact that the GM couldn’t even return an email tells me that this place values your(and my) business exactly NONE. Hospitality biz, yet ZERO hospitality from the guy who is supposed to be setting the standard at this place. EXTREMELYDISAPPOINTED.

I am in no way a country fan, but I still had a blast here! I came here for a holiday party. The night was kind of hazy from the open bar(whoops!), but I remember dancing most of the night! Alfredo was our wonderful host/dance teacher. He & some dancers taught us several different dances. Don’t sweat… they do a great job breaking it down for you & you practice a few times. Everyone there is in good spirits & learning along with you. The dance floor is pretty big & they also have a lounge to the side as well as an upstairs with a bar & some arcade games. The ladies restroom is also beautifully decorated. Lol! If you want to bust out your cowboy/cowgirl boots, dance, or you’re just a country fan, Moonshine Flats is a fun place & is unlike any other place in downtown San Diego. It made me a country girl for the night, but let’s keep that secret here.

It’s been about a year and a half since I went to Moonshine Flats with a couple of friends. My memory is hazing, but I do remember having a good time, having good drink service, and enjoying the live band. Not my style of music, or my style of venue, but it was a good for what it was. Maybe I’d go back if someone convinced me I should…

What’s not to love?! Live music, cute boys/chicks, line dancing lessons, and dancer/entertainer/shot pourers on the stage side; Fooseball, ping pong, shuffleboard, giant beer pong, and did I smell BBQ? on the deck side. They sometimes have concerts and you can RSVP online to get on the guest list the nights that they don’t. How does it get any better/simpler than that! Anytime a fellow Texan comes in town, I definitely try to take advantage of the country lovin’ and bring them here: D

This place was so fun. High energy country mixed with a little bit of everything. The venue was huge, the drinks were decent. I thoroughly enjoyed my night there. I would definitely come back.

Where do I even start?! I absolutely love this place. First off, the drinks are very well priced while mostly everywhere else downtown is super expensive! The staff is so friendly and energetic… they are great at their jobs and you can tell they really enjoy working there(which makes the whole experience much more enjoyable). The music is great and the dances are pretty easy to pick up if you just jump in and give it a shot. Overall 10⁄10. Cant wait to go back

Country music(at least of the modern sort) makes my ears bleed. I can dig some folksy country, bluegrass, some old timey country like Dolly Parton even. But listening to modern country is akin to experiencing a chamber of horrors. The twangyness, over-the-top southern accents, predictable melodies, and cliché lyrics are the stuff of which nightmares are made. The only other place you’ll find music with artistic standards this low is in those modern churches where you close your eyes, wave your hands, and sing songs about loving Jesus. You may ask why someone who has such a severe and incurable case of countrymusicophobia would ever end up here, but you know how it goes — you go where your friends go. Even if it’s a torture chamber. I have fun no matter where I end up. Reasonable selection of beers(at least two IPA’s on tap). Prices are fairly typical for downtown. Venue is very spacious. Plenty of room to wander around. The concept of taking shots in barber chairs is entertaining. But the shots they give you(so I hear — I gave my drink ticket to a friend) are gross. The games — cornhole, ping pong, beer pong, etc., also cool. Even if you don’t play, it’s fun to watch others play. Will I ever take initiative and suggest this place for a night out? Probably not. But will I return if a friend does? Probably.

My fiancé’s love for country music has finally rubbed off on me — this place is a BLAST! Easy going rustic themed, it reminded me of Dallas! There’s an atrium in the middle and so ventilation is not a problem! There’s tons of games to play, and if you’re up for it you can try the moonshine! Though, I’d personally opt for the Georgia Peach. Loved this place and can’t wait to bring the fiancé here!

Terrible. Great band however. Just line dancing. No place to country dance. Staff stole my beer twice when I set it down to go dance. Rip off joint. It gets one star just because of the band.

I went here on a Thursday night to check out the line dancing for a friends birthday. I will start with the PRO: $ 4 drinks. If you’re a super crazy advanced line dancer that knows very complicated dances without cues, this is the place for you. The dances were not guided or taught. They would teach about one dance an hour, but most of the time you’re standing around watching the professional dancers because no one has the first clue on how to do these complicated dances. It feels like you’re in a night club with line dancing. There are professional dancers that are very seductive and they are line dancing to rap music. This place not my favorite. I’m not going back anytime soon.

I am not a major down town person but decided to come here after my room mate graduated hygienst school. Let’s say I did not regret it. This bar is hugeeee and they have games inside as well, multiple bars and a dance floor. My room mate along with some of her class mates had a blast. We didn’t have trouble getting a table nor was it hard to get drinks. I never had to wait in line at the bathroom and it was actually pretty clean even at closing time. The dance floor was a great time and I had a blast. We pretty much came here at 10pm and didn’t leave till closing time. There is a $ 10 cover charge and this is a county type of bar. I am glad downtown now has more casual bars.

I absolutely love this place. My favorite place to go out downtown! Great music, I love the live bands that play here. They have a fun area with lots of games like pool, corn hole, ping pong, etc. If you like country music, this is the place to go downtown!

Have you ever seen a movie where there’s a live band playing at a massive bar/music venue? That’s basically what Moonshine Flats looks like. Seriously, I walked in and felt like I was in Footloose. There’s a huge dance floor(with line dancing on weeknights), lots of colorful disco lights, loud music blasting, and a balcony along the edges that overlooks it all. I’m not even a country fan and I can tell this place is the real deal! We were there on a Saturday night and it was PACKED, to the point that it was difficult just to navigate around from the bar to the dance floor and bathroom. The crowd was super energetic though, singing along with the band and dancing throughout the night. The live band played a mix of country music and rock music, mostly the«crowd pleasers» if you will, that got everyone bouncing and shaking to the beat. The drinks and beer selection are pretty standard – nothing too special – but the bartenders managed the crowd like champs. I also love that Moonshine Flats connects to The Deck, where you can play lawn games like cornhole, bucket pong, shuffleboard, and even arcade games for free at the bar. There is a cover, but it includes entry to both Moonshine Flats and The Deck so it’s worth it for the crazy fun atmosphere here!

I’ve been here twice(once on a Thursday and once on a Friday) — hugely different experience each time. Both nights had games, great drinks, a fun vibe and live music. Personally I will be sticking to Thursday nights due to the crowds of people that were there on Friday and lack of line dancing on Friday night(got here around 10 pm, maybe there was line dancing earlier? When we got there it was a grind-zone). The fun thing that was there Friday and not Thursday were the shot chairs, man those girls are good! Basically a lap dance on a barber chair, but a very classy one ;). Thursday night had fun lessons, line dancing, and an amazing band in the back. The teachers were energetic and the drinks were yummy. Overall awesome spot in DTSD, and not a place to miss! The massive location alone makes it worthy of a check in, if not the country vibe.

Moonshine Flats is so fun! The older you get, the more you appreciate joints like these. I’ve been here twice, both for coworkers’ birthdays. When you walk in, you see the bar on your left and all the fun stuff on the right — total dive bar games(minus the darts) such as corn hole(new favorite game!) and pool. There is a lot of space… I particularly liked the fact that there were a ton of people, but we were able to keep to ourselves for the most part. The music isn’t pounding in your ears and they also have a bar menu(yum waffle fries). It’s such a casual place to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night. If you make your way to the back, you’ll find the line dancing room. Seriously — LINEDANCING. I don’t know a thing about country music and it’s culture, so going here for the first time was mind blowing. I told myself to go home and learn these dances off YouTube so I can come back and not look like a fool. Haha straight up choreographed dances… I was so intrigued. The second night I came here, there was an actual concert going with some country singer — country music is such a refreshing break from the usual EDM/house stuff you hear everywhere else. I don’t listen to country music when I’m alone, but surprisingly this is one of my favorite places to be in DTSD!

This bar as a front and a back. The first time I went in, I stumbled in to one side and there was trivia happening. I jumped in on some groups game. *You’re welcome, strangers* They have the questions on this big screen on the wall. They had arcades, beer pong, flip cup, corn hold, darts… there was a lot going on that night. I don’t know if it was a random night or if that’s a regular thing but they also had prizes. It was fun. I wanted to stay longer but unfortunately, it was a school night and our carriage was about to turn back into a pumpkin so we left. The second time we stumbled in was through the other end. It was much busier that night but it was nothing like the night before. There was line dancing here. Not really any other games. Not that I remembered. And country music. A hip hop song came on and I thought it would turn into a regular dance floor but it didn’t… just more line dancing. Pop song=Line dancing EDM=Line dancing… that wasn’t my scene. I’d rather play drinking games. 4 *s for the trivia part. 2 s* for the other side. 3 *s average.
