It’s always been difficult ordering from food trucks that stop by my office building because they take forever, but New York on Rye literally took 2 minutes didn’t sacrifice quality to make it happen! Delicious, fresh tuna sandwich, a cup of soup AND no wasted time on a lunch break — I’ll take it!

Small casual friendly deli in MiraMar. These guyz used to have ONLY a food truck! They were so good, they decided to be more stationary. The Reuben is the juiciest you have ever had! FF are salty & crunchy to perfection. My GOTOMIRAMAR sandwich spot

Great food, great service, great, great, great… I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. The owner was working the til. Very friendly and pleasant. Came to everyone’s table and asked about the food. Thank you new York on rye.

awesome New York deli style food served with gracious service that really makes you feel like you popped into mom and pops deli to get some delicious grub. I recommend this place if your looking to appease your fixing for a traditional style NYC sandwich. Try the corn beef hash fries!

Went back, and took my camera this time. Have to emphasize that I went in WANTING to love this place, to crave a sandwich from here on a weekly business. But I can’t…the pastrami is very, very ordinary… they machine slice it paper thin, it has a rubbery texture and the flavor is underwhelming. Guys, you should honestly change the name to San Diego on Rye, it is more accurate. I grew up eating NYC deli food and they ALL blow away the sandwich I had last Tuesday. Meh!

Wow, probably the best Ruben I’ve had on the west coast. Nice t too many delis out here that can compare to the east coast. I definitely recommend the Ruben and next time I’ll be trying the pastrami. The fries were so much better than I expected too. Everything made on premise with the meat and cheese coming from local market as well.

San Diego isn’t a great Jewish deli town, but New York on Rye is definitely the best one out there. The pastrami is very good, as is the rye bread and house-made mustard. The sandwiches aren’t piled ridiculously high as you’ll find at some other places, but the quality is excellent. The location and atmosphere leave much to be desired. My dream is that one day New York on Rye will move to the old Elijah’s spot near UCSD or La Jolla Village Square and will have the character of a classic Jewish deli with Formica tables and cushy vinyl benches. But until then I’ll just focus on the pastrami. One suggestion for the owners: more and better pickles are needed. One spear doesn’t cut it, and vinegar is a major no-no.

I went to NY on Rye for the second time today on a lunch break. It’s a little pricier than I like to spend on lunch and I don’t live nearby, or I would probably be going there several times a week! Their sandwiches are delicious and they’re extremely friendly. Today I called in my order and it ended up taking me a while to get there. When I arrived they explained that my food had gotten cold due to the wait, but they had made me a second order of fries for free so I would be sure to have some fresh and hot. I definitely recommend them if you are in the area and hungry!

Wow is all I can say. I ordered the chicken caesar salad with avocado and it was, to put it mildly, excellent! Chicken was seasoned perfectly, dressing tasted homemade(and delicious) and the avocado was perfectly ripe! You guys are rock stars!

Just tried it, Sandwich was OK but when I spend $ 11 for a sandwich I expect it to have some weight. I can get almost 2 for this price at BnB.

Came here on my lunch break and I must say this place is LEGIT! Your reuben pastrami sandwich won’t be a foot high from the plate like in NYC but c’mon how are you really going to scarf that down and survive in the afternoon?! Most importantly, the food quality and customer service was on point! Tip: As a FiveStar member, you’ll receive incentives for visiting regularly.

FANTASTIC sandwiches! Was craving some corned beef during work one day so I turned to my trusty Unilocal community to help me out and I came across this gem. It’s off of Miramar Rd and a little hard to spot(I had to make a U-turn since I missed the driveway the first time *side note: IT’S A STEEPONE.) It’s in between McDonalds and a taco shop, forgot the name. So the Rueben is their signature and most popular sandwich and it was DELICIOUS. Hefty portion of meat that balances perfectly with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, all held together by crisp rye bread. Even the pickle spear they give on the side is good! As I usually don’t care much for the pickles that are given in most delis. I got a side of fries(didn’t check in on Unilocal until after I ordered, but FREEORDEROFFRIESIFYOUCHECKIN) and the fries were bomb! They are twice fried so super crispy but still a little fluffy on the inside. The only thing about that is that maybe 1⁄3 of them were fried to a point of crispiness that it wasn’t even like a fry anymore haha just a crisp hollow shell. The 2nd time I ate there I thought I would try something different so I ordered the corned beef hash fries. The meat has a slight chipotle flavoring that was tasty but I’m not sure if I would order this again just because corned beef hash already has potatoes in it, so I had potatoes on my potatoes and it was just too much. I found the meat to be a little mushy as well so not quite something I want on top of my fries. What I think would be awesome is if they served their signature corned beef chopped up, with cheese and Russian sauce on the fries– just an idea! Anyways, small shop with great people and great food. Best Rueben I’ve had in San Diego and 2nd best everywhere else I’ve had one haha.

I travel to a lot of cities and one thing that San Diego has that no other can boast — is the amazing plethora of Food Trucks that roam the city. That being said — I have heard of the mythical ‘New York on Rye’ truck — in fact — I have seen it parked outside the school on Governor sometimes — but never had the opportunity. Wait. There is a secret hidden location where you can sit down and gobble your delectable sandwich masterpieces? Who knew? It was tasty fellow Unilocalers! I had the corn beef Reuben recommended by the cashier. The meat was extremely lean(and not at all greasy!) and the sauerkraut was just the right amount of bite. I’m definitely coming back —- because I just feel creepy stalking a food truck. I need to snap a pict of their wall, they make their own dressings, horseradish, and deli mustards. Amazing good and really worth the hunt within the shopping center. It is very difficult to find — but it’s close to the McDonalds as a landmark(it’s kinda of behind it)…

two colleagues and I went to lunch planning to eat at Top Bun. We were surprised and a little disappointed to find that Top Bun was no longer there, but NY on Rye was there instead. I’ve never been a fan of Rye bread in the past, but we walked in to check it out. The guy working there was so friendly and helpful, we decided to try it out. he told us they use higher quality meats than Top Bun and gave recommendations. It was a great decision to stay! I tried the Reuben, their signature sandwich(1st on the menu) and the soup of the day, whitefish chowder. Both were firsts for me and both were absolutely delicious. My friends tried 50 – 50(off menu) half pastrami, half corned beef. They were equally pleased. The reason I give them a 4 is because there is no air conditioning. The food and service both scream a 5!

Being from New York, I tend to be judgmental of New-York-Style-Food. I came upon the NYOR food truck at a festival in Solana beach, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I get the same thing every time — the Reuben with pastrami — and it’s like Heaven with each and every bite. I even turned someone else on to it who used to hate sauerkraut, but the way they make their sandwich is just spot on. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is for accessibility. I live in central San Diego and work off the 56. The food truck is rarely in either of those areas, and on the weekend when I would actually be able to get to the sit-down location, they’re closed, and the truck is only occasionally in service.

I’ve been here 3 or 4 times with coworkers for lunch. It’s a really great sandwich shop and I have never been disappointed. I’ve had the pastrami dip, the tuna melt and a couple of other sandwiches. Everything is great and they even slide a mini cookie in the basket. The only thing I would change is the prices. The bill is just a little steep for a sandwich shop, but maybe I need to get with the times and accept inflation as reality.

I ordered a sandwich and a drink. Apparently the cashier did not hear me and did not charge me for drink. When they brought my food, they told me that I have not paid for the drink! I said ok, I’ll pay, the guy said, it’s OK, it’s on him! A few min later, the cashier came to clean up the table, I told him I had ordered drink, maybe he did not hear me. His response was straight: No you did not pay for your drink!!! :) That was really rude and pissed me off this time! making customer feel like shit, twice, in front of other customers is not a good practice! Anyway, I paid $ 2.11 for the drink to make them happy! Anyway, the sandwich was very greasy, I would not go back there anyway!

Sit Down Restaurant review. The Food Truck part of this company is well known in the UTC area. NYOR was known as a «hit and run» food truck, meaning that they would park on a city street for an hour or so, then take off. They were also on a bi-weekly rotation at my work campus. These three things — Inside is nice, clean, and welcoming. Music was appropriate and made you actually want to stay and dine in. There was more than enough staff to take orders, prepare, and clean. — I ordered a half Rueben(7.50). It was a good Rueben but the dressing was a bit heavy handed. The portion was perhaps a bit too thin for a good lunch, so you might want to just order a full sandwich. It took about 7 minutes from order to being ready on a fairly busy lunch rush. — This location has seen it share of failures over the years,(Brown Bagger, Bombastic, and Top Bun) but it’s a higher-end option for the working folk on Miramar. As others have mentioned, and also the guy in front of me that quibbled about the price, you’re looking at 16 bucks for a full meal. Summation — A splurge.

I love this place. I used to visit the deli that was in this location before NYoR, but one day I came by for lunch and they were closed. A large banner hung in front of the door claiming a new restaurant called New York on Rye was coming soon. I quickly checked Unilocal to see if there were other locations. As I read about the food truck and looked at pictures, I got very very excited about this newcomer. For weeks I stalked the parking lot on my way to and from lunch, looking for visual progress reports. After a few short weeks it was open for business and I was happily in line. The Coaster has been my sandwich of choice. It is unbelievably delicious. The sourdough is soft and easy to eat. That goat cheese aioli changes the entire sandwich in an amazing way. I love goat cheese and have never felt overpowered by it, but I can see how some people might(my husband included; he’s not a fan of goat cheese at all). The goat cheese aioli NYoR uses is perfectly blended so you get the taste of the cheese, but no way you’d get overwhelmed. My goat-cheese-hating husband tried my sandwich and loved it. He didn’t even realize he was eating goat cheese. So far I’ve only tasted The Coaster, but my husband had the New Yorker and couldn’t get enough of it. He said it was delicious and filling. He’s definitely not a light eater, but a whole New Yorker and a bag of chips actually got him full, which is great bang for your buck. Because speaking of buck, as others have noted, yes — New York on Rye is pricier than other sandwich shops in the area. Half of The Coaster and a bag of chips is almost $ 10. Including tip, eating at NYoR generally costs me 2 – 3 times more than other places I lunch in the area. I get whole sandwiches and chips at other delis for $ 7. But they don’t taste like The Coaster, so it’s not a big deal for me to spend a little more once in a while. Oh! And they have soups! This is «souper» important to me.(See what I did there? Souper. SOUPER, Carl! *insert The Walking Dead Carl meme*) But soups! With the exception of the chain sandwich establishments in the area, I haven’t been able to find delis with soup. I love soup. I could eat soup for every meal for weeks at a time and be perfectly happy. There have been many days when all I wanted for lunch was a bowl of delicious soup. The above mentioned chain sandwich shops have crappy soup. It’s pretty much never delicious and mostly just a means to an end. But! New York on Rye has creative and delicious soup available every day! So far I’ve only tasted the Peanut Soup, and while it may sound a little weird, I assure you it is fantastic. I take lunch later than most people, so I’m usually here after normal lunch rush times. There are always people coming in and out, but I never have to wait long. The time I walk in the door to the time my food is handed to me is only 5 – 10 minutes *at the most*. I very much appreciate the speedy service. I just noticed they offer online ordering via their website. Order online, pick your options and sides, and it’s ready for pickup in 30 minutes. I love this service! I’m usually too busy to remember to sit down and place an online order 30 minutes before lunch, but I’m going to try to use this feature soon. I love places that are using technology to their advantage and to attract people like me who would rather use the computer screen for most things. It makes me feel very important. Like my computer is my personal assistant who is just, like, arranging things for me. I’m a loser. But I don’t care! Anyway, New York on Rye is a new favorite and I’m pretty sure I’ll be coming in weekly. Bring on the soup!

I’ve tried out this food truck a few times and I’ve only ordred the corned beef hash on fries. It’s not on the menu but I had it when they promoted it during a food truck festival. They are always happy and willing to make whatever you ask. You can order any of their regular sandwiches on fries. The corned beef hash fries has corn beef, cheese, diced potatoes, tomatoes, onions and fries. You can ask for a side of the sauce they have(I don’t know the name of it). It’s a little spicy but not really meant to be like hot sauce. It’s like carne asada fries but with corned beef hash. The service here is really good. The workers are friendly and the wait time isn’t that long for the food. Definitely try this place out if you’re nearby.
