Second time here. First time was on a Thursday evening. It was slow, food was inexpensive, tasty and our waitress was the sweetest person I think w have ever had serve us. Tonight we came with a party of 11 and had a totally different experience. Food was good but the service was horrible. We waited forever for one plate, we asked 3 times for it and were finally told it was made and they didn’t do it right so they had to make it again. Every time we placed an order they didn’t remember what we ordered. I don’t want to go here again. Sorry

We were referred to this restaurant by friends. Parking was tight on a Friday evening but amazingly they have somebody in the parking lot help guide you. I ate several different types of sushi that were fresh and delicious. They also had a salad I don’t remember what it was called but it feeds about four people and is awesome, especially with their house sauce. We will be to this new found little gem.

My coworker brought me to this place today for lunch. Let me start by saying that this place is delicious.. way way better than sushi deli… and their lunch prices are unbeatable. … I will definitely be coming back here

The food is good but the service sucks. The Waitresses got potential as bussers than waiting tables. If you give a menu out, don’t forget to check on the table to see if the customer figured out what they want. Good chef though. Keep it up

I’m so sad to lower this rating. We used to come here at LEAST1x a week! I think they changed sushi chefs for lunch… The rolls are smaller than before and just NOT as good. Sometimes it tastes like it was left over ingredients. Most of the time it feels like they just don’t give a s*** about the food they’re making. Where’s the love??? Rolls are plain and love-less now. We get the crunch rolls a lot, especially lobster crunch. The last few times it just wasn’t great. The last time we got lobster roll they didn’t even put the correct sauces on it! Wth! There was no sirracha sauce, which is what DEFINES that roll! The crunch they used to do(the ones that are like chips) are gone now and it’s the panko crunchies are carelessly put on(we’ve had it cold and oily once! yuck). We really loved this place… now we have to find a new sushi place.

Ordered the miso ramen lunch combo that included sushi too! For $ 14.95, it’s a pretty good deal! It came with a whole egg instead of just half like other places. I was a little disappointed with the egg though because it was hard boiled :(Portion size was so big that it became two meals for me. The sushi that came with the lunch combo wasn’t that great. It did not taste very fresh. The rice seemed different than other places… Not sure how to explain it. Service was great though! The waiter was nice and friendly!

Good place if you are looking for japanese food other than sushi or ramen! The place is a little small and the parking is pretty packed. So waits for both things is quite common. They have a good variety of food, with a ton of sushi rolls and other japanese fare like okonomiyaki to yakisoba. All which are done quite well. One dish I greatly enjoy is their chirashi salad, which packs lettuce rice and a ton of diced fish with a spicy sauce all in to one bowl. So big it is definitely for a group!

It’s a small restaurant with roughly 12, 4-person tables. Maroon 5 and other alternative/pop artists are gently playing in the background. There is a 42 or 46″ TV in the right corner that is on a news station w/o volume. It is Wednesday night and 4 out of the 12 tables are taken. The waitress is friendly and will occasionally sing with the music. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing. The waitstaff and sushi chefs seem to be laughing and enjoying their work. As 5 pm approaches the waitress dims the light and places lighted candles on top of every occupied table. — Fried blue crab was fried, but raw on the inside. Left a bad taste in my mouth. The waitress apologized and told me that I wouldn’t be charged for it. — Their fruit and lemonade mixes are very good and served in a mason jar. A variety of flavors like mango, peach, pomegranate, etc. They use syrup not powders, so this is probably why the drink tastes good. — Miso Ramen was okay. Tasted just like Miso soup(durghhh). If you like the soup, you’ll like this dish. It comes with two egg halves and some sort of meat. Not sure what it was since I didn’t eat it(saving my stomach for the sushi and dessert). — The jalapeño bomb appetizer is very good! The pepper is spicy, but not over the top. Definitely could eat a mountain of these! Tip: Right now if you write a review, they will give you free green tea icecream. They have happy hour everyday from 4 to 6:30 pm and from 9:30−11 pm Friday & Saturday. You can save a couple of bucks on handrolls, sushi, appetizers, sake/beer, etc.

I am a big fan of their Nozomi chirashi salad. It’s a salad but it’s so satisfying and filling with plenty of fresh sashimi and shrimp pieces on top and white rice on the bottom. That large salad can definitely be shared between two people and you’ll both be satisfied. My friend usually take out the fish eggs and put it into her bowl before mixing the salad to get maximum amount of eggs in her stomach and not stuck to the bowl(genius). Once in awhile I will order their green noodle if I want something soupy. The soup is simple and not very flavorful but they give you a jar of marinated pickled vegetables to add flavor to the noodle soup. The chirashi salad and the green noodle is the only reason why I go here even though they have sushi and teriyaki in their name.

First time here. Had a gift certificate. Recommend an über/lyft bc parking on a Friday evening can be crazy on Convoy. We got there 7:15 and finally got parking and were seated right away! Our server was Kelly but found out later her Japanese name was Kairim. She was a peach! She taught me Japanese and I helped her with her English. Only coaching note is that at times the servers weren’t as attentive as they could have been and I had to remind a few times for to bring me a Sapporo and for refills on water. Because there were 3 they switched off so you never really knew who your true server was. I was 100% happy with Kairim/Kelly. But I am taking off one star for this issue. The food was oishi! I also get hamachi(yellow tail) and maguro(red tuna) as my measuring stick for every sushi restaurant. The pieces were like butter. We got the Windy roll, it was awesome my only issue is that the roasted garlic was a little too thick so the texture was weird. If they slivered it a little thinner it would have been perfect. I loved how they used little lights for presentation. They also had Dassai 50 my fave sake! They served it in a holder with ice. Finally, after I kept asking for refills, Kairim brought us a bottle of water so we could refill ourselves which made it way more convenient. They have happy hour specials 4 – 6:30 and then a late night happy hour starting at 9:30. We will prob come back on a Thursday evening to take advantage of the HH and also easier parking. The hotate scallop was delish. The seared albacore was a little too seared but not terrible. The unagi nigiri was like dessert! And then we had mochi for actual dessert. The curry looked amazing and everyone around us seemed to order it lol. I got a veggie yakisoba to go and it was decent. Def high-end fish and the attitude of everyone was very welcoming. Can’t wait to go back!

Been here a few times before the past couple years, but I have got to say, my experience this time was by far the greatest. The service was amazing and nice. All the staff greeted me and my party the moment we entered the place and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. The regular stuff I would order(chirashi and some rolls) were amazing by them self. We were given a couple of recommendations and I was so glad to have followed it and ordered it. The salmon sashimi was exquisite and had a beautiful texture and flavor. We got to also try the moon fish and sword fish sashimi which were beautifully crafted and presented and were both amazing in flavor.

Can’t go here without ordering the Chirashi salad. :). They come in ¾ size now also instead of just their regular size. I guess people had trouble finishing the huge bowl of delicious salad. Good problem to have if you ask me: D. That salad some with assorted sashimi bits with rice at the bottom. We have been here several times and the rolls and chirashi salad never fails. Although a bit pricier than nearby places for the rolls, they are displayed quite beautifully and I’ve never had a roll that I didn’t like here :). We also ordered karage which was pretty good and the tempura platter which was quit interesting! I would recommend that if you want to see all the things they can batter up and deep fry! It was fun to sample.

My husband had some rolls(would not recommend the one with lemon) while I had the miso black cod with shrimp and vegetable tempura, salad, rice, soup, and dumplings. I wish the fish were bigger(as it was on the small side) but was good. The service was fine and they were very nice. Parking can be difficult because it is located with many shops sharing a small lot.

The only reason I go to Nozumi is for the chirashi salad. I had a gift card so I went with a friend for dinner around 6PM. Technically, it was still happy hour, but because we were using a gift card, it couldn’t be combined with other deals or offers, so we had to order off the regular menu(boo :c). We ended up settling on the Chirashi salad(of course), the Girl’s Night, and the Fuji. Chirashi: delicious! They were generous with their portions of raw fish and the red sauce absolutely ties everything together. It was light, refreshing, and had a kick of spice at the end. Seriously, the only reason I go to Nozumi is for this salad. Girl’s Night: Decent. It had asparagus in it, raw fish on top, and was topped with a ponzu sauce. Also light and refreshing. Fuji: baked crab wrapped in salmon, topped with scallops I think? There was no rice on this roll. It was extremely rich, but packed full of that usual«dynamite sauce» flavor. We got two pints of Sapporo as well. When we went in, there was literally no one else in the restaurant. The servers were attentive and quick. Overall, except for the chirashi, the food was relatively mediocre with pretty good service. If I just wanted sushi, i’d go elsewhere… but the Chirashi here is a MUST.

Tried going to Tajima Izakaya only to find the 45 minute wait on a Sunday night with not only our own two kids but our friends with their three young ones in tow as well. Needless to say«Eject! Eject!» So our friends say lets go to Nozomi which is one of their go-to places. I was a bit skeptical based on the star ratings but then saw Unilocal Elite Friend Arlene P gave it four stars I was on board. We were seated immediately and the server was quite enthusiastic. It may have helped that she was Korean and so were our friends who did the ordering. They got the signature Chirashi Salad. I didn’t realize that it was a family size serving! My buddy dished out individual servings and I was about to dig in with my chopsticks when he said to get a spoon. I’m thinking«Huh?» So I take a stab at the salad and proceed to understand why I need a spoon. Good golly Miss Molly! Fantastic flavor dance party in my mouth! I couldn’t get the stuff in there fast enough! Forget the chopsticks. Forget the spoon. Where is the shovel? Fresh pieces of fish on top of salad and righteous sushi rice. But what really brought it together was this awesome spicy dressing. Before I knew it my little bowl was gone. I had to chuckle when I looked up to see my pal just literally eating out of the serving bowl with the serving spoon. They also ordered the Spicy Seafood with green noodles. Again this was a family sized bowl. Think green almost fettuccine type noodles in a silky smooth broth with mussels, whole shrimp, and wait for it, half a blue crab. My wife ordered the Special Crunch Roll which was a shrimp tempura roll topped with broiled salmon, a whole lot of tempura crunchy goodness. On the side were deep fried sweet potatoes and onion strings. Yummy! Once again, magic trick as it disappeared within seconds. Sticking to my own game plan I ordered their regular tonkatsu ramen and was a bit dismayed when it came. The pork belly slices were charred. I’d never seen that and figured maybe this their take? Big no bueño on that. The slices were dry and tough even after letting them soak in the broth which made things worse as it imparted a burned aftertaste. The noodles were clumpy. The good news is that this was the only bad news because the other dishes rocked!

Food: — Gyoza: 5 pieces of deep friend pork potstickers. There were yummy. 4⁄5 — Dragon Roll: Deep fried shrimp, cucumbers, wrapped in seaweed and topped with eel and avocado. 3.5÷5 — Love Volcano: I can’t remember what is in the roll but it was topped with shrimp and scallops. 3⁄5 — Hot Crunchy Roll: basically a California roll covered with tempura and topped with spicy crunchies. 3.5÷5 — Mochi Ice Cream: Mango, Strawberry, and Green Tea flavored. The mango was my favorite. The other two tasted like it was freezer-burned. 3⁄5 — Deep Fried Ice Cream: 6 pieces of green tea ice cream in a chocolate cake-like batter that was deep fried. That was pretty good but was way too much for 2 people. 4⁄5 Service: Fast and friendly. Our server made a couple rounds to our table. 4⁄5 Final Thoughts: The food here was mediocre. Nothing was really good nor was it bad. Pricing was high considering the quality of the food. I probably won’t come back here.

First time getting sushi in Convoy, and I’m glad it was Nozomi. Seating was pretty fast for a party of four on a Friday night, especially considering the place looked packed. Oh, I should note the parking arrangement in the lot outside is odd. It looks like valet, but the valet attendants basically tell you where to park even if it blocks other cars and gives you a playing card(don’t know what for). Then they call you if you need to move your car. Weird. APPETIZERS– The only appetizer we ordered was the Hamachi with Jalapeño in Ponzu Sauce for $ 10, and it was hands down the best item we ordered. The sashimi and sauce were fresh and light, and the jalapeño sauces were thinly sliced to perfection. ROLLS– Between four girls, we ordered Girls Night for $ 14, Yellow Storm for $ 13, Pinku for $ 14, Baked Salmon for $ 13, and Super Crunch for $ 13. And yes, we devoured it all. The only roll I wouldn’t order again is the Super Crunch, as it was just a lot of crunch as the name implies. The rolls itself are not fried, but it has a ton of fried toppings and fried garnish on the side, and I prefer my rolls lighter. To be honest, the other rolls(Girls Night, Yellow Storm, and Pinku) blended together and we were not able to distinguish between them. However, they were all on point. I thought the Baked Salmon but it is quite small. My friend who has been there before preferred the Baked Scallops. DRINKS– $ 12 for a pitcher of of beer is a great deal! Plus, we got another free bottle sent to our table thanks to some mystery peeps(thanks, strangers!). Overall more than enough beer. ATMOSPHERE– Rowdy, loud, nearly filled to capacity. At times annoying depending on if parties around you are doing sake bombs every ten minutes, but it’s nice to see a restaurant so lively rather than chirp-chirp quiet. Nozomi has got the whole package, in my opinion. Would definitely come back again for the food, drinks, and atmosphere.

The chirashi salad is the best! That’s the only thing I come here for. The salad bowl is HUGE! It could feed up to 3 people. I always share with another person and still can’t finish it. The salad comes with freshly cut sashimi, rice, lettuce, sesame seeds, cut cucumbers, and a spicy sauce. I usually cannot eat raw fish unless it’s a salmon roll, but this dish is delicious! I would definitely recommend this to my friends. I would probably come back to try other things they have to offer here. But I always get tempted to get the salad and it’s already super filling haha. Service is good, not great. They’re very friendly but they could be a little more attentive. It’s usually not too crowded so I’m sure they could do better.

One of my favorite sushi places in San Diego. Fair prices and great food! Setting: Not the largest restaurant, but they can fit larger parties. Best for groups of 1 – 10 people. They offer bar seating, table seating, and booth seating. Very nice calm environment and beautiful decorations. Service: As you walk in, the workers here greet you in Japanese, even if they’re not Japanese. Everyone here is very friendly and stays on top of their service. Except for water though, they forget to refill waters. FOOD: Shrimp Tempura Curry $ 12.95 Tastes like your average Japanese curry. Plenty of rice. Plenty of sauce. Served with about 4 pieces of tempera shrimp. Shrimp is really good. Hot Crunch Roll $ 14.95 AMAZING! Slightly spicy and lots of crunchiness goodness. I forgot what kind of meats were in it. But I CAN tell you what made it crunchy. They have tons of crunchy noodles, chips, and crunch flakes all over it. JUSTGETIT. Fuji Mountain Roll $ 14.95 Another delicious sushi roll! Basically its a baked sushi roll wrapped in salmon. No rice. Sushi rolls sit on top of a bed of cucumbers. Just amazing. Sake Bomb $ 1 Nothing is better than sake bombs for $ 1 and they serve it at any time and day! Mango Mousse Cake $ 4.95 This cake was delicious. Fat layer of mango mousse on top and a small layer of moist cake on the bottom. Topped off with whipped cream, cherry and chocolate on the side. Worth a try! Green Tea Cheese Cake $ 3.95 Disappointed in the size of this dessert. It was VERY small. Definitely not enough to be shared between two people. It was extra tiny compared to the mango mousse cake. But nonetheless, it was a very creamy rich green tea cream cheese flavor. Also served with whipped cream, cherry and chocolate on the side. Overall, great place to go for Japanese food because they serve a little bit of everything: salads, appetizers, rice plates, udon, ramen, and sushi !

Small little Japanese restaurant with a chill atmosphere. Nozomi is a quaint restaurant located in the heart of Convoy. Service was good. Food: Beef Curry– very watery however the flavor was yummy. Grilled Black Cod-it was alright Fried Tempura– it was alright too. Nothing to rant and rave about. Overall, it was an alright experience. I’ll probably return for HH instead.
