My first bad Unilocal review… I go to Chopstix at least twice a month and always enjoy the food there. There service is normally great as well but this is the second time this has happened and it makes me pissy. Walk in for lunch and they are busy. It’s just myself and there is one table open. They tell me they have nothing available. I ask if the open table is reserved. They tell me it is not but I can’t sit there as it seats 4 people and I am by myself. There are no other people waiting for a table… I let it go the first time it happened but since this is the second time I need to express my disappointment that they would not seat me in case 4 people had showed up. Suffice to say I will not return. I went a block down the road to Common Theory and am enjoying a tasty Banh Mi Sandwich. Expect a good review :)

I am a little confused by the high reviews for Chopstix, as I left feeling pretty underwhelmed. I personally got the mountain vegetable ramen with Shoyu broth, and the best thing about the ramen were the mountain vegetables. The broth was super bland! I also tried my dad’s Tonkotsu ramen, which was super bland too :(The crunchy roll was also super underwhelming. The chicken katsu was decent, but it tasted like something I could make at home. While the service and the price were on-point, I think I’d rather go somewhere else for better ramen.

Checked this out today cause I was craving some ramen. The usual ramen spot I go to was pretty pack so I decided to come here. Ramen was good for the price it was for. Only reason I gave it a 3 because I felt a little rushed eating earlier when they gave me the check when I wasn’t done eating. Customer service is pretty good. Parking lot is small but there is more parking in the back. I’ll defiantly come back when I get the chance.

Decent Japanese restaurant with an assortment of everything from ramen, rice bowls, sushi, udon, and Japanese curries. Chopstix was always the go to spot back in the day because you get the most bang for buck especially for the amount of food you receive. Sadly, their most raved about crunchy roll was once $ 4.95, but the price has crept up a dollar since then. Regardless, the crunchy roll is still a very good deal. You can easily fill yourself up on just one. To add, their rice bowls are also huge, hardy, and tasty. Expect to receive plenty of meat in their ramen as well. It’s not the best tasting ramen as the broth can be kind of bland and the meat a bit dry, but it still hits the spot. Service is always pretty good at this place and it’s not always that hard to secure a table on any given night. If you ever are craving Japanese food, Chopstix will serve a solid meal for sure.

Parking is a little cramped, but they have some spots in the back. Got in, and was immediately seated as the place was pretty empty being about a fourth full. Service was pretty slow as they too quite a bit of time to take orders and bring the check. The food was good and plentiful. I ordered the katsu curry and mabo tofu. As mentioned a ton of food was brought out and it was all quite delicious. My Girlfriend also ordered a dish as well which she was satisfied with. The prices were all quite excellent with most items under 10 dollars! Great place with a variety of decent food at great prices, just have to work on the service!

This is one of those food joints that you go to when you strictly want great food and good deals. This place is straight-to-the-point type of good… they get the job done. They have a wide menu, ranging from rice dishes, soups, sushi, and more. Tried their Ramen, Udon, and sushi rolls and was satisfied every time. Tastes authentic and is simply delicous. Look out for their food deals, like low price sushi or 99 cent food with a purchase of large beer. No complaints about the service and food comes out fast. My favorite thing here is the seafood or dumpling wonton & Chasyu pork ramen, but I wish they had the option of making it fat noodle. It might be a culture thing tho. Overall, they fit your needs. Don’t expect hip music or modern décor, but they have good Japanese food, two TVs, beer, and discounts… oh and most importantly, no line but never empty! Not my go-to Ramen place, but perfect for when my usual spots have a long wait, like Tajima. That’s how I usually end up here. When I’m really hungry and don’t want to wait even 20+ minutes for a table, I just take a short walk to Chopstix. Always get seated right away! 4 stars for the food, 3 stars for the experience

I just really like this place. Their service is great, food is great, and they recently remodeled so their place looks nice too! Their chicken katsu was amazing the other night. Their plain ramen is only about $ 6 and it tastes really good!

It took quite a while for Chopstix to grow on me, but I think it’s fair to call me obsessed at this point. The presentation and the food aren’t very fancy or exciting, which is why I didn’t quite get the popularity at first, but it’s very consistent comfort food. My favorites are the chicken katsu curry and the roast beef ramen. Both dishes are very generous and affordable. They get very busy in the evenings, so my boyfriend and I usually get our food to go, and it’s always ready very promptly and the ladies are very sweet :)

I had the medium portion chasyu ramen with shoyu broth(soy sauce broth). I thought the soup wasn’t hot enough, especial for a cold day. It felt more warm than hot and I definitely prefer a hot broth for ramen. The shoyu broth was just okay – a little salty for my taste. The medium portion of chasyu consisted of 4 slices of pork which were pretty thickly cut and a little dry. Overall, the portion size was decent for the cost and the food was okay. Nothing to get excited about and not satisfying if you’re looking for some hot soup on a cold night.

Location: Location: It is in the same location as the tea station here. Has its own private parking in the back if you go inside. Décor: It is fairly dark and is fairly crowded. It has wooden tables and chairs. Food & Drinks: They have a good variety of food and options to choose from. I think the problem for me was that the flavor was okay, but they gave a lot of noodles. I think my ramen was mostly all noodles and a few sides. I know usually ramen is a lot of noodles, but this one was a little extreme. Later on I was hungry :(. Okay eating my friends.

We have been going here for years and I almost always order the Nabeyaki Udon! Today I tried the Miso Seafood Ramen! I have a new favorite! I also always order a large beer and as a result get a delicious $.99 California roll! Lorenza likes the Katsu Curry and tried the Mambo Curry this time! Another success! It’s good to try new things! We originally went to Yakyudori down the street based on recommendations from friends and Unilocal!Due to the lack of welcome and the dirty menus we walked out! The staff did not even ask us what was the matter! They deserve a NOSTAR!

Absolutely love this place! I’ve been coming here since I was young, like not even double digits yet. Their miso ramen is hands down my favorite in San Diego. At times it can get really salty, but for the most part it’s spot on. I usually get it plain, just the noodles and broth. My family gets it with vegetables and they can’t ever finish all their food! They give a good amount of noodles in my opinion, especially for their prices. I also really like their tonkatsu. My family and I usually get it for an appetizer. It’s always so delicious. That’s all I ever ordered when I was little, and it’s still just as good! I do wish they gave more katsu sauce, but that’s really not that big of an issue. The parking lot is horrible though. I feel like people park there and then go across the street. And it’s just horrible to find parking after 6. Some days it’s really easy to get parking, but for the most part it sucks.

Sunday night food options are a bit limited but living near Convoy St. definitely has its perks. Coming here 45 mins to closing, I was afraid that I would of course get not so great service and/or quality of food. Fear not as that was not the case. Small yet inviting dining area, this joint had a homey feeling and the smell of ramen made me more hungry. Surprised of the daily specials that they offer(Buy one large beer or sake at regular price and get selected option for 99 cents) or monthly sushi offers. One could see that this place can get pretty packed on peak times. I ordered the ika katsu for starters and its crunch was tasty but salty. Its included katsu sauce was a nice addition. Main course #1 was the deluxe Nabeyaki ramen with 3 tempura shrimp. Yummy fatty broth with a salty flair is the name of the game. Great ramen noodle texture and consistency. Price was very fair considering the amount. Fishcake was just right with its on point firmness. Main course #2 is the seafood style Champon ramen. Calamari riddled the bowl and length-cut vegetables covered the top of the bowl, the smell of it was quite powerful. Admittedly made the eyes sweat a bit. Definitely a lighter body taste in terms of tonkatsu broth with the unavoidable scent of seafood. Preferred the first bowl of ramen in terms of taste and overall togetherness of ingredients. Both items are for sure a win. You should check this place out if you want reasonably priced ramen and good specials, especially when the other competing restuarants are packed with hungry patrons.

The food here is decent. I really like the chicken katsu! I got that with the mabo tofu but the tofu was WAYTOOSALTY for my tastebuds): this dish would have been one of my favorites if the mabo tofu wasn’t super salty. Maybe I just came at a bad time where the chief didn’t realize how much salt he sprinkled over the mabo tofu?.. Lol The chicken katsu curry is good. It was not salty and the veggies were cooked just right. This combo came with salad and soup as well. The soup was just regular miso soup. Nothing special. Just simple and decent soup to go with your dish. The salad was very plan. I don’t even think I took a bite of it because it just looked like salad from a bag with no dressing. The ramen was decent as well. The broth wasn’t very seasoned and kind of tasted like boiled eggs. But they do give you an abundant amount. The pork that came with it was decent as well. It was tender but didn’t taste like anything but boiled meat. Wish they soaked it in a seasoning. Maybe soy sauce or something? The costumer service is ok. They guy never came back to our table to ask if we needed anything or if we needed more water.

Solid little place for great food without breaking the bank. Honestly one of my favorite go-to places. I grew up going here, and have always left satisfied-both my tummy and my wallet! ;) The place is small, but kept well. The staff is friendly and service is usually pretty quick. They have great specials and a fairly expansive menu with plenty to choose from. My usuals are the oyako don or nabeyaki udon. If we’re extra hungry we’ll sometimes start with their sushi special(crunchy roll). Food always comes out piping hot, and I mean real piping hot hah. The crunchy roll is large and not all too tightly wrapped so it’s not the easiest to eat at times, but for the price it’s definitely not a bad deal! The rice dishes come with a side salad and miso soup, and we always leave with a very satisfied stomach. and a few to-go boxes too ;] The servings are generous and quality great-especially for the price you pay. At $ 5-$ 8 per plate, I can’t recommend this place enough for the best bang for your buck! Definitely a must try.

Our party came in exhausted and starving so when were entered to find it packed we weren’t too excited; it took us a while to find a place open so late and one that we all agree on. Nevertheless, the owner was a very attentive and charming older Japanese man who entertained us while we waited for a table. He told us that he came to the USA30 years ago and worked busting tables and how he is now the proud owner of this restaurant for over 25 years. Apparently the chiefs in the kitchen had been working with him for almost as long as the life of the restaurant. He had us seated and the staff was very sweet in accommodating the newborn and 5 year child in our group. I feel like I’m a fan of this place because of the great quality of the food. Everything was so delicious! Terakayi chicken, gyoza was spectacular, sushi, shrimp — everything was seasoned and tasted amazing. I would most definitely remember and visit this location when I return to San Diego again. The only annoyance with my experience at this place was the waitresses. Every 2 – 5 minutes a new waitress would run up to us and try to place our order, check on us, or clear a plate. It gave an impression that the serving staff wasn’t every organized and way to eager to have a turn around on the tables versus letting us relax and truly enjoy our meals. I will still make my way back here, this little hole in the wall of a place won my approval with its charm and its food.

Came here on a Friday night and was seated right away, but the place was still pretty busy an hour before closing. They have a deal when getting a large beer or regular size sake you can get a side order for 99 cents more. Ordered the combination sushi and wonton chasyu with tonkatsu broth. The combination sushi is a crunch roll with 4 pcs. California roll and spicy tuna roll. The star of this plate was the crunchy roll, the other extra pieces fall short. The California roll and spicy tuna roll was majority rice with the smallest portion of meat I’ve seen on sushi before. Maybe the portion will be bigger if ordered separately and not as a combination. The crunch roll was good. It had nice flavors, nice amount of crunch. The wonton chasyu ramen had good flavor. Nice amount of chasyu and wontons. The tonksatsu broth was good. The bowl was huge and I couldn’t find myself finishing it, even if I really tried(I really, really tried). The chasyu didn’t have much flavor, but it was still decent. The egg that came with it was really hard boiled, which I wasn’t to excited about. This place has ramen and sushi, and it’s those two things that I mostly crave for regularly and having both at one place is great. The prices aren’t bad, and the food isn’t bad(not amazing, but not bad). Will be seeing you again, Chopstix. Arigatou gozaimasu!

This place has my go-to comfort food! My tummy is grumbling just writing this review waiting for my Chicken Katsu Curry! :) I love this place! Why?!? I come for the Chicken Katsu Curry! Perfectly fried pieces of chicken with white rice that is smothered in curry sauce. That curry sauce!!! Chunks of beef, potatoes, carrots and onions… not to spicy(it’s really not spicy at all, I’m just a wuss with spicy stuff) … AMAZING! My very first visit was a togo order. Don’t order when hungry… you just get way too much food! So I ordered the Tonkatsu entrée, Chicken katsu entrée and ebi shrimp. I love tonkatsu(deep fried pork… oink oink baby!) so of course I was going to give it a try! Unfortunately I did not fall in love with the Tonkatsu or the ebi shrimp… but the Chicken Katsu had me hooked! It was on my third visit I tried the Chicken Katsu curry, and it won me over! Fry up that chicken and pour on that curry!!! I’m a happy girl! Parking is extremely limited and tight here for lunch and dinner. Good luck finding parking here on the weekend, it’s always packed! During the day, there is additional parking in the back behind Tea Garden that most people don’t know about. The staff is always super friendly and they have a great 99¢ specials if you order a large beer or sake… Going on all the time while dinning in! If you love the Chicken Katsu as much as I do, you try to figure out how to get the most chicken!(with some curry!) Here’s the breakdown… ~Chicken Katsu — a la carte — 4 pieces chicken -$ 5.95(includes small salad) ~Chicken Katsu entrée — 5 pieces chicken — $ 8.75(includes rice, salad, miso soup) ~Chicken Katsu Curry entrée — 3 pieces chicken — $ 7.75.(includes curry over rice, salad, miso soup) ~Curry entrée — no chicken, just curry over rice — $ 6.95(includes salad, miso soup) ~Side Curry — $ 2.95 size of soup container of curry The miso soup is also delish with tiny bits of tempura batter! :) Enjoy!

Cute Japanese noodle and curry house on Convoy! I stopped by today for lunch around 11:30am. I got the Mabo tofu don with tonkatsu, $ 8.59 after tax. Total $ 10 after tip. At first bite, i thought the Mabo tofu was a bit too sweet, which it kind of is. It’s not the spicy Chinese version I’m used to, but the more i ate, the more i enjoyed it. I love variety when it comes to lunch and i’m a happy camper to have gotten a little side salad and small bowl of miso soup with my meal. The udon, ramen and curry all look delicious as well. I will come back to try the other items.
