Service is great. The food on the other hand appearred to be previously frozen. The cinnamon french toast was a frozen cinnamon roll disc with some added powdered sugar. It was disgusting and i had a breakfast voucher. I wouldve been better off getting jack in the box next door. The only star is for service. They have items jack in the box has but cant even make a fresh breakfast burrito, croissant sandwich or decent coffee. Dont get tempted to eat here while staying at the holiday inn!!!

I’m going to give it 3 stars for service, but the food deserves 2 stars. I ordered cocktails and a margherita flatbread. The cocktails were fine. The flatbread tasted like it was made from canned(Pillsbury) crust and canned(Chef Boy-ar-dee) sauce. It just was meh. The service, though, was really good.

Happy Hour 7 days a week? Yes please! I believe it was from 4:30pm-6:30pm. They have a great HH menu. $ 5 appetizers. We ordered the chicken skewers with peanut sauce, steak quesadilla, buffalo chicken sliders and it was wednesday which is $ 8 burger night for my hubs got a jalapeño burger and it comes with fries. It was pretty great! We were stuffed to our gills when we left. The service was amazing and on point! We will definitely become regulars. 2 thumbs up from 2 fluffy foodies!

This restaurant is inside the Holiday Inn in Murphy Canyon. Came in on a hot day that we didn’t want to cook. Had a groupon so brought the whole family. Food was cooked right. Had a great burger and fries. If i was staying at the hotel, i would not hesitate about coming in and eating here. Fair price for good food.

Best value is happy hour daily from 4:30 p.m. To 6:30 p.m. And the food is extremely good. $ 2 Taco Tuesday and free appetizers on Wed. During happy hour.

I came here for dinner with a friend using a Groupon. We had $ 30 to spend, so we ordered carne asada nachos, burgers and drinks and broke even b/c it was a Wed before 6:30. It was a lot of food for two girls! They have Taco Tues for a couple of bucks and Burger Wednesdays for a burger, pickle and a side for $ 7. Then they have hh until 6:30 where you get $ 2 off apps. Their nachos are on the expensive side, $ 8.00 + $ 4.50 to add carne asada but they were delicious and splitting those alone was enough food for the night. I ate the burger at home for dinner the next night and wasn’t impressed at all but it could have been because it was a day old. Our service was fine and the place had a busy spurt but was calm and a great place to catch up. The parking spots are super small so I had to crawl thru the passenger side to get my car out. Next time Ill probably park in the shopping center that its attached to. It would have been a 5 star experience if they would bring down their nacho prices… hint hint! :)

Came on a Friday night and loved the food! The ambiance was nice and dim lit. Only a couple tables were occupied, and there were two servers. Service was a bit slow, but that was fine. I came with a $ 15 or $ 30 Groupon Now, and was able to order Red & White tacos(two tacos included, which were delicious! My boyfriend and I agreed that they taste comparable to World Famous’ tacos, except this plate cost $ 8.50), corn chowder(delicious!), chicken salad(generous portion), and a special happy hour burger deal that included salt&vinegar fries(a bit disappointed that I couldn’t taste the vinegar). We left with plenty of leftovers for another meal, and only had to pay an additional $ 2(without the tip). Food was great! I enjoyed my experience. Probably wouldn’t come without a coupon, but so worth if if you have one!

Their food is delicious. They used to do a lunch buffet and I loved it. The mexican food was fresh and there was always something there for everyone. And the best thing about it was the price.

Well, I went to Rayo Grill this past weekend for breakfast and the experience was OK. For one, the only serve breakfast and ealery dinner with no lunch in between. The restaraunt in the hotel is small, with maybe 10 or so tables. A few of the food choices and portions doesn’t match up with the price, like the steak and eggs. On the flip side, the service was friendly and the food was good. That morning, they were kinda slow due to missing a server and had a fill in replacement. I give Rayo Grill and average rating.

Horrible. My boyfriend and I came here and I swear the manager was discipling his staff out in the open. Either use your inside voices or do it back in the kitchen. Talk about embarassing for the employees! and how uncomfortable it was for us as patrons! On a friday night, only two other tables were ocuppied. That’s a bad sign. Not exactly a full bar. The service was mediocre. I didn’t even know who the server was. I think we had the manager take our order, the busser lag on our drinks, the server brought our waters long after, then someone else brought our food!!! really? The service was slow. I work in the hotel industry. I know how room service kitchens/stand alone kitchens work. It may take that long because of the shortage of your staff but what management staff allows that to happen?! drinks took an absurd amount of time to get. the margarita I ordered? wrong. But i didnt want t hem to fix it because I was afraid they take forever to get me a new one. The only reason I tried this place was because I had a coupon for it. Holy Smokes. Don’t waste your time people. if you are in need of a hotel restraurant. plenty others out there!!!

Where is the effort? Hotel restaurants everywhere are struggling. The flurry of Groupons are a testament to that. So you’d think that they would bring their«A» game on a Friday night. Parking was surprisingly available in the front of the Holiday Inn. The restaurant glowed with the orange and yellow hues of the New Mexico sun. Orange chairs and hi def TVs added to the modern warmth. We were excited. But our excitement waned as we waited about 15 minutes for cocktails. There were only two other tables, and even the friendly bus boy acknowledged that«he would be pissed too» if he had to wait that long for drinks. We ordered a Cadillac margarita but didn’t get any Grand Marnier. The coconut shrimp appetizers lacked much coconut. And it really pisses me off when the cooks butterfly shrimp or steak without warning. Butterflying complete sucks out the inner moisture. The guacamole was atrocious. It looked and tasted like some green chunky power mixed with water. And the tortilla chips were stale. The southwestern style chicken swam in a gravy-like goo that was coagulating before our eyes. Lay off the corn starch, Cookie! Mysterious brown gelatin + bland chicken = hospital food. Suffering through that plus vegetables withering in butter made me feel like it was my last meal before a doomed surgery. My better half had the salmon, which was so old it stunk. I can’t think of the last time a restaurant dare serve salmon so fishy. For a Santa Fe/Tex-Mex themed eatery, there was nada mucho flavor. No spice. No cream. Not even enough salt. Truly some of the blandest food this side of the Rio Grande.

Rayo is great for what it is: a hotel restaurant in a random part of town. Since there are no quality restaurants nearby, the food does it’s part. I had the lunch spinach wrap, and while the BLT plus egg filling was yummy, the thick coating of blue cheese was not. Too much for this lady. The salt and vinegar fries were rad: the balsamic glaze was perfectly viscous and the fries were crunchy. Yum, yum, yum. Irene is a fabulous server and I appreciated her attentiveness and take-charge attitude. She handled a busy lunch with grace.

2.5÷5 First of all, I guess I didn’t read the reviews closely enough, because I didn’t realize this restaurant is in the lobby of a Holiday Inn. No, not partitioned off in another area, it’s literally in the lobby. Not the kind of place you want to take a date to, in my opinion. In fact, it was just straight-up embarassing to take my friends here without knowing where it was, but it sure as heck didn’t make it any cheaper. Second, the service was horrible. It was pretty much as bad as it gets without anyone being actively rude. The waiters were clearly hotel staff that were tasked with running a restaurant as well, and it showed(drinks took 20 minutes to get to the table, «on the rocks» margaritas showed up with no ice at all, food was spilling over the edges of all of the plates, didn’t have the beers on tap they said they did, etc.). I feel genuinely bad for these guys, it’s really not fair to make someone work as a waiter without knowing what to expect. The food was very passable. I got the carnitas, my friend got the steak which was quite passable. The food was all a bit cold but it was certainly decent. But not for the price! As a party of 5(heh) we escaped from Rayo after tax, tip, title and license for $ 80 thanks to a gigantic coupon. At that price, I’d probably give this place a solid 3. The fact that it could have cost us $ 130+ is criminal for a HOTELRESTAURANT!

I came here with the KMLB, my first one! Regular price for lunch is $ 8.95 I believe. It comes with complementary chips, salsa and guacamole! Heck yeah! Drink is also included! The lunch buffet consisted of 2 choices of soup, Carnita Enchiladas, Shrimp with grilled onions and peppers, rice, beans and also a salad bar. Your drink is also included and I was never thirsty because our waitress just kept coming with more! Service was awesome. I came here rather late and was accomidated nicely. Thanks to Ace for setting this up! I’ll have to return.

This restaurant highlights the problems with Unilocal.I was looking for a new restaurant in the Kearny Mesa area and ran across the reviews. So I looked at the menu and was intrigued enough to try it. Going in through the elevator, they advertised your lunch in 30mins or it’s free. Sounds great for those of us in a hurry. Turns out the menu isn’t available during lunch only the buffet.(Well, I would hope you get your lunch in 30 minutes if it is only buffet!) The selection was typical of a hotel restaurant. Limited and minimal on flavor. The place was well decorated and the highlight of the restaurant. If you go, notice one oddity that I have never seen before. They have water glasses already on the table, but when you order water, they take them away and bring them back filled with the water rather than filling them at the table. Since the waitress took them away by picking them up by the lip, I hope they bring you back clean glasses…

Came here for the KMLBUYE and I was really impressed by what you get for $ 8.99(although for the purpose of this UYE, they gave us a discount — $ 5/person)! Chips, guac and salsa come to the table almost immediately after you sit down — the guac is pretty darn good too! The buffet against the back wall houses a salad bar, shrimp fajitas, carne asada, enchiladas, chicken tortilla soup and tomato bisque. My favorite was the carne asada… it was better than some Mexican places I’ve been to. The meat was tender and flavorful — I had 2 servings of this! The shrimps were fresh but I didn’t like the excessive stewed tomatoes that were in here. I’m not an enchilada fan but I did take a taste from my friend’s plate and well, I’m STILL not a fan of enchiladas. The chicken tortilla soup and the tomato bisque were both very very good! I wish I had more room towards the end for some bisque but unfortunately, I didn’t so I took a taste from someone else’s bowl and wished I had more stomach space for it. Service was super efficient. They give you warm flour tortillas and chipotle butter and drinks were promptly refilled and plates removed very quickly. I would totally come back here again if I lived in the area, but I’m guessing my gas cost more than the lunch itself! Great times!

KMLB had their monthly lunch here courtesy of Ace. I had never before been to this hotel much less the restaurant. I was the first to arrive and we already had a large table waiting for us. The bar/lounge area is large to accommodate more then a few friends. Very nice décor and the menu for both the drinks and the food looked great. Mouth watering I eagerly waited for everyone else to arrive. While I waited the server brought out complimentary chips, salsa and guacamole. The lunch is a small buffet that has a decent selection of food. When we all started heading to the buffet our server brought out more complimentary items. This time it was fresh tortilla’s with a chipotle butter spread. I had the tomato bisque soup. Very tasty. Basically the soup was a creamy tomato with a kick of spice. I had three bowls before throwing the napkin in. The only other option for vegetarian’s was the salad bar. The staff was very friendly and kept the buffet full of fresh food. Our drinks were never empty. The plates were cleared away quickly. How’s that for service? It was great catching up with my fellow Unilocalers. I will be back in the future to take advantage of this great buffet and check out the dinner menu. Thanks to everyone who took care of us.

«Raaayo… Ra-a-a-O… Daylight come and he wan go home.» Actually, these lyrics to the famous Harry Belafonte song half-way sum up my trip to the Rayo Grill. I was awake way earlier than I normally care to rise for a Social Media breakfast, but after taste testing a few of their items I didn’t «wan go home.» Who doesn’t like starting their day with quesadillas and mahi sliders? Before 9am I’m usually a zombie, but these two items woke my taste-buds up. There’s very few examples when I’d be more than down to return to a restaurant located inside a Holiday Inn, but between these samplers, the über friendly management, and an exec chef with a pretty impressive resume(Peohe’s, Planet Hollywood)… I may just have to drop in next time I’m in the area.

I’m usually never up early but one of my favorite social groups was meeting up at Rayo Grill for their annual meeting and I didn’t want to miss out. Besides the great people and discussion topics, I would even have the opportunity to be the first to Unilocal this new, upscale, South-of-the-border concept so I definitely couldn’t miss it. Coffee, orange juice, and pastries were available to try from the hotel(all of which were great) and there was some great items to try including the chips with fresh guacamole and salsa, chicken quesadillas with mango salsa, and the mahi sliders. My favorites were definitely the excellent sliders and chunky guacamole and I was fortunate to be at a table with extras. All the more for me! I had a little trouble finding Rayo Grill since it was actually inside the Holiday Inn, but it was a great place to hold the event. The staff and service were great and I’m confident that their executive chef will do an outstanding job making this the place to be! Food: 8⁄10 Service: 9⁄10 Price: n/a Atmosphere: 8⁄10
