Decent ayce for a decent price .they kind of forget about some of the rolls it seems like so you need to remind the waiter a lot

The family and I were in San Diego for our family vacation. We felt like sushi for dinner one night and not knowing the area how else to find a restaurant but to Unilocal it We Unilocaled sushi restaurants around us and RB Sushi came up. I read a couple of the reviews and some had some negative things to say but overall it sounded ok. Boy was I wrong!!! Upon arrival the welcoming was well let’s just say non existent. They had a hostess stand and someone was there but we didn’t get a hello, how are you, thanks for coming in, NOTHING! Then we were sat and literally crossed 4 employees because we were sat at the back and not one smile, not one hello, not one nod. So clearly this was a bad start. We were seated and our sever said hello. Our server, Joco, so very friendly and personable. Unfortunately, his great attitude couldn’t save our horrible experience at RB Sushi. We all orderes AYCE, which would normally consist of ordering at least 2 – 3 rounds. For us however it only consisted of one round since it took an hour and 45 minutes for us to get everything on our first round. That alone is completely unacceptable. Some of our sushi was warm & one roll looked liked it was smashed. We ordered an order of yellowtail for my son, after 90 minutes I finally asked for it(all of our nigiri that we ordered had already been delivered) and said If it hasn’t been made yet please cancel it. He went to check and he said he was able to cancel it. So I’m left to think that after 90MINUTES they hadn’t even made that order? Really? Putting one slice of yellowtail on a peice of rice takes that long? Uh ok! We ordered edamame and miso soup. Typically an appetizer at Japanese restaurants right? Well not here. After about 40 min and 4 rolls had been dropped at our table, I finally asked if we could please get our soup and edamame. Joco, sounded surprised that we hadn’t gotten it yet and said yes he would check. He came back within minutes with both. Not sure what the hold up was with that?! I guess this is how they keep down the ordering. If you serve one roll, make them wait 5 – 10 min for the next one and so on, after an hour your stomach has started to settle and you become full. Makes sense. I don’t think it helps that the server stand/computer is located on the floor where customers can see them. It doesn’t look too great when you see 2 – 3 servers congregating just talking and hanging out while you are waiting and wondering where your food is after an hour. All in all, i definitely do not recommend this place.

Server is super friendly and the only reason why it has stars. The overall experience is very slow for an All you can eat sushi. 11 Rolls= 90 minutes.

My first time in this place, I have no words!!! Awesome!!! Friendly service, clean place, fast. I tried AYCA, I really recommend it. The food was delicious, they have every kind of sushi, spicy cooked or fresh. I tried almost everything!!! I can’t say which one is the best because every type is so good! Enjoy great food and excellent service here!

Well I was craving mussels and my hubby was craving sushi, so we decided to come here. We both ordered off the AYCE menu. The mussels which I was really excited about had a very funny taste to them, they were chewy, and were not fresh at all. The sushi rolls were OK! Most of the rolls on the menu contains Krab, which I was not pleased about(variety please). Also the restaurant itself seemed stuffy, sticky and just uncomfortably unsanitary. For example, the gnats flying around our plates, the unclean window we sat next to, the sticky table :(! And I didn’t even complain like I usually do because where would that have gotten me. The great thing about our visit was our waitress(can’t remember her name) but she was very attentive and friendly!

Ordered a Caterpillar Roll [$ 10.95] that took about 20 – 25 min to bring out. Yes, it was busy, BUT our table ordered at the same time(one roll each) and they both came out quickly… without the caterpillar. I think our waitress forgot to put the order in & blamed that it was backed up. Right. Got hungry waiting for the other roll so I left the restaurant hungry –__– #WhereTheyDoThatAt?! Omg. Anyway, onto more positive things. The Yellowtail– 10pcs for $ 19.95– was delicious. It was cut into perfect bite size pieces. Pretty darn fresh & nicely presented, too. But not the best I’ve had, MAYBE top 3. Had the Tiger Roll [$ 13.50] which came with eel on top & shrimp tempura inside(plus the other things) very, very tasty. The eel was goood. Be ready to wait, the wait after we were seated was up to 45 minutes. Parking in Hillcrest isn’t that bad if you park in the garage, RB Sushi will validate the ticket. This experience could have been better, but since the food was pretty good I give it 3-Stars.

First let me say that I would never eat here if it were not for their AYCE(all you can eat) option. That being said, their AYCE option is why they get 4 starts from me. If you love sushi, idk how you couldn’t appreciate this place. We literally ate hundreds of dollars worth of sushi for $ 50($ 25 a person). So that’s the pro. Now, what everyone says is true … They do pack a lot of rice into the sushi to try to fill you up and you do have to eat it all or you will be charged full price. The food itself is okay. It’s not bad by any means but definitely have had better tasting sushi. The rice was way sweeter than it should have been. Also, you can order as many rounds as you want but it takes FOREVER for the food to come out. So I would recommend ordering most of what you’re going to eat up front. But ultimately, I’m going back there again tonight because, hey, where else can you get unlimited sushi other than at a buffet that’s going to give you food poisoning.

Affordable price. $ 25 for all you can eat sushi. When you take into account that most sushi joints charge ~$ 8/roll, and I myself eat at least 4, this is a no-brainier when I’m eager to get my sushi fix. The rolls are great, service is always on point, and the place is never too packed. Plus they have numerous other selections to choose from. Probably my favorite restaurant here in San Diego

It was my first time here with my boyfriend and I fell in love. It wasn’t too busy when we went, so we were seated right away. Our waitress was the sweetest! I don’t recall her name, but she was this blonde female. She was very attentive and checked up on us frequently. Not to mention, she never stopped smiling. My boyfriend and I each ordered a lunch special along with a sushi roll. He’d always tell me about a roll at the RB Sushi by SDSU that was his really good, and we ordered it. It was the lemon roll, with yellowtail, salmon, and thinly sliced lemon on top. It was pretty amazing. Everything was delicious. There’s an AYCE sushi option too, and it’s cheaper during lunch, of course. Next time, I think I’m definitely going to try that.

Pros: Overall it was a pretty descent restaurant. The place was clean, very friendly service, enthusiastic staff. Display of the food was quite neat and tidy. The sushi rice portion was smaller as well unlike some sushi restaurants where they try to increase the volume of the rice&imitation crab to full up clients fast to pocket more money, so here was good. Lots of fun roll menus as well. Fried dishes such as calamari are more meat than the bread-coat so is good. Had other ayce places in San diego where I couldn’t tell whether I ordered the bread-crumbs or actual calamari. Cons: They have nigiri, rolls etc with rice, but not the sashimi itself(without rice) for ayce menu. Saw that 80% of the rolls menu included imi crab but I guess it’s still better than some ayce places I’ve been to. Rice was on the soggier side for sushi. The meat on the rice are bit thin. Although they had good displays, dishes coming from the kitchen in general were pretty salty. Seafood could be fresher but was still okay for the price. This is more biased than the other comments, but personally I like hairs tied up in food industries and I noticed that majority of the ladies had their hair tied up so it was good. But one person in particular, I think it was the manager considering the fact that she was wearing differently, had her hair loose and was going back and forth the kitchen while brushing through her hair with her hand several times. Nothing wrong with that since she’s not the one cooking but since she was going into the kitchen where the food is being prepared I thought it was a bit improper. Overall pretty descent place if you want a casual ayce with your friends.

I have been a long time fan of the Rancho Bernardo location. I made my way here when my aunt was in town and she requested sushi. This was the location closest to her. First Impressions: This location would be really fantastic for a date. It has a really cool, intimate and modern feel to it. The location is a bit of a pain to get to, but so is everything in Hillcrest. The good news is they validate your parking! I wouldn’t come here with a big group though. No more than a party of 4. The Service: My server was very kind and attentive. I never found myself wondering where she was, but didn’t feel crowded either. Good service is a balance and this location has the balance down. The Food: I always get all you can eat, and I recommend it with a group of a few people so you can all try each others rolls. Unless you eat A LOT of sushi by yourself, it might be too much for one person. The garlic edamame is a must. It is delicious. I am also a big fan of the lemon roll. It has an unassuming description but do not let that fool you. It is very refreshing and has great flavor. The Pink roll is another that doesn’t jump out at your, but is worth your time. I am also a big fan of the calamari tempura. The nigiri had good cuts and didn’t have too much rice. Overall: I would defiantly go back if I was in the area(which I normally am not) and I would recommend anyone go there. Beautiful place, good service and delicious food! Check, check, and check!

Pretty good deal if you get the AYCE. The rolls were voluminous, lots of flavors happening on the palate, slightly over seasoned, but the presentation was well executed. Beef Gyoza was a treat, not too fried, simple, flavorful. Sauce on the mussel appetizer was caked on– a little too rich, and messy, masking the bland rubbery protein in the over baked shell. Edamame was swimming is «garlic butter soup» which ruined the vibrant green color, leaving an undesirable chewy texture. Service was ok– the server playing host, seemed very unhappy about it. The vibe was chill. Only 3 tables/about 8 customers in the dinning room with 2 servers 3 sushi chefs on, so I’m not sure what she was so stressed about. My partner and I asked to be moved to a table near an outlet and judging by the dirty look and attitude of indifference we received, it was a lot of us to ask of her. Annoying — we get it, however we work in the industry too; play it off better. Hopefully they don’t have a pooling system and the 20% gratuity went directly to my server. We live in the neighborhood so there’s a good chance that we’ll try one more time, to be fair.

I stuffed my face here. Literally. RB Sushi is kind of like a guilty pleasure for me because I have been to really authentic sushi joints, but restaurants like RB give me the authentic and also Americanized options that I crave. I did not opt for the AYCE option, but here’s what stood out to me: — Chirashi Bowl — pieces of assorted sushi on a bed of sushi rice. I like the tuna and yellow tail and I poured fresh wasabi(available on request) all over that sucker. So good. — 911 Roll — Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, spicy tuna, and baked with creamy sauce drizzled on the top. Need I say more? — Havana Pearl — It’s like a roll, but instead of rice, they use cucumber. It’s refreshing and a good low-carb option! — Salmon Skin Roll — Make sure you request the hand roll. It’s amazing. they give you a hearty helping of salmon skin. Great service and will definitely come back when I’m ready for some AYCE amazingness!

RB Sushi is the only AYCE sushi place that I’ve been to so unfortunately I don’t have much else to compare it to yet. However, I’ve already gone twice, and I’m always willing to go again and again. It might be cause I’m a sucker for baked mussels and baked rolls, and their baked dishes are delicious! Would definitely recommend getting it. If you’re doing AYCE, I recommend on skipping out on the gyoza and calamari since they are rather unappealing and bland. Overall, found this to be a great place to indulge in sushi in Hillcrest in SD. It’s located in a great spot in the heart of Hillcrest!

This place isn’t bad! Not the greatest, but it was good! They have a parking garage and they validated which was a huge plus in this area. Parking is usually pretty brutal with Snooze across the way. On the day we came here, their credit card machine wasn’t working. So when we walked in they told us that we would have to pay cash or they will take down a copy of the credit card info and enter it in when it’s back up. Although they said they would shred it, that was definitely not an option I was going to take. So I walked around the corner to the SDCCU atm and took money out. So glad it was close by! We found that the sushi rolls had a pretty good rice to fish ratio. The Nigiri quality was surprisingly fresh! Be careful though, the specialty rolls are huge! I think those filled us up rather quickly. We also liked our waitress, she checked in with us very often and the entire staff was so good at clearing empty plates. I definitely wouldn’t mind coming back here again to find a roll that could possibly be mind numbingly awesome?

Uh oh, did I just find a new favorite sushi spot?! My wallet and bank account are scared! This lovely restaurant is located in Hillcrest right across from 24 Hours. You can park in the same parking structure and get it validated(2 hour limit)! That alone in Hillcrest is a plus for me already! The restaurant is very nice, open, and clean. There’s plenty of space for big groups but I would still recommend calling in for a reservation just in case. We came for the AYCE sushi which is all day everyday $ 21 for lunch(until 3PM), $ 25 for dinner(starts at 3PM), and children are $ 15(10 and under). They have your standard choices of kitchen meals such as sashimi salad(SOGOOD!!!), nigiri, hand rolls, and rolls. Even better, to go with your meal, you get 2 for 1 draft beer Monday-Thursdays! The sushi was very good-came out super fast and quality looked pretty good. The tuna was a little more pink than red but later when we ordered round 2, the tuna looked a LOT better. I am a HUGE fan of the sashimi salad-super fresh vegetables and big chunks of fish. I wouldn’t recommend getting the stuffed mushroom because it’s fried and I’m not really absolutely sure what they were stuffing in the mushrooms. We didn’t really have a limit on the first round so we kind of went crazy-so crazy that we were questioning about a second round. We did a second round but a much much smaller amount. A huge shout out to Gel(Angelica I believe was her real name) as she was our waitress and she was awesome! She was extremely friendly, attentive, and just had a great attitude! We were the table that was super indecisive and asked for too much beer and wasabi. NOTE: Pretty typical of AYCE sushi places, you do have to finish what you order or you will be charged with«leftovers.»

This is a close, close match up between my two favorite sushi joints in all of SD. I wont name the other as this is a review of RB not the other so why bother? The price here is right, the sushi is tops, the options are endless and oh yeah… AYCE dinner for $ 25! Or just $ 21 for lunch?! That’s crazy awesome in my book. Service is fast, super friendly and the sushi chefs are always in a bustle to push out the quality sushi I come here for. This location is prime as its right next door to the 24 hour Fitness gym I go to 1−2x a week and when I need to carb up on some rice and sushi, boom! Right next door I go. Location alone gets these guys 1 start at least. My normal order is odd but it works as its all brought out in 1 shot and then I do not end up waiting 15 – 20 minutes between rounds and making a dinner take an hour or more. I get 2 miso soups(sip this with each bite of fish, thank me later) 8 orders of nigiri and 5 hand rolls. Sounds like a ton(kinda is) but 16 piece nigri is the same as 2 long rolls, 8 pieces each. See my photos for the items I get. When you train 1.5 hours a day for yourself after 3 hours of fitness classes for work on top of having diagnosed hyperthyroidism… you almost have to eat like this… not so much get to… big difference. RB is my saving grace for big eats and delicious eats! This visit was my last one for 7 months as well… so sad!

Food: AYCE sushi for about $ 25. Most of the rolls were good. We ordered so much, I don’t remember what was what and which were good. lol. I know we ordered several orders of the garlic edamame each round. I recommend pacing yourself. I was so full by round 3. I definitely got my money’s worth! 4⁄5 Service: Fast and friendly. The servers don’t always tell you which rolls are which so it made it hard for me to know which rolls were good. 4⁄5 Final Thoughts: I would definitely come back. The quality was good. It was worth $ 25 for sure!

Checked out this place since it was an AYCE sushi. The restaurant itself is lovely. Very open and modern seating. We got the kryptonite roll, rainbow roll, dynamite roll, baked popcorn lobster roll, kimmy roll, and tiger roll. My favorite was the kryptonite, rainbow, and tiger roll. I’m usually not a big fan of lemon on my sushi but the kryptonite roll was pretty damn good. Always a favorite is the rainbow roll. I love a variety of fish on my sushi :). The tiger roll is pretty much a dragon roll except there’s shrimp on top. The other three rolls were okay. Definitely not my favorite so I won’t order again. However, I’ll probably go to this place again since it’s a good price for AYCE. $ 20.95 for lunch. Sushi wasn’t my favorite but I’ll order new rolls next time and see how I like it. They validate your parking for the parking near by(as long as it’s 2 hours or under)!

Sushi’s ok. I’ve had better. 25 $ all u can eat but u have to finish everyyyyything otherwise they’ll charge u for an additional roll. Well if your sushi was good we probably would have eaten all the food. We wrapped the leftovers in napkins. Now ima go home and throw it all up haha jk It’s spacious they have a back room. Our server was nice and friendly… Not coming back… Disappointed. Next time I’m walking to sushi deli.
