Rubicon Deli is by far my favorite lunch spot in the entire city, they have several locations but this is my favorite one to come to since it is so close to my work. Over the years I have tried every single thing of the menu, however the sandwiches are always the best. If I am not super hungry I will get a simple acai bowl, which is good, just almost as expensive as a sandwich so why wouldn’t I just order one. I used to not care about my weight so I always ordered the Jalapeño cheese bread. It is absolutely amazing, just not very healthy obviously. Over the past few months I have been sticking to the wheat bread and it is just as good in my opinion. My top sandwiches to order are the spicy tuna, pastrami, and dapper dipper. All three are amazing options but I usually try to avoid the latter two during the week because they are not as healthy. They just started serving up a Rubicon Club sandwich that is delicious as well. The pickles perfectly compliment the bacon and turkey. A tip though, I would ask for the buffalo sauce on the side, otherwise they drown the sandwich in it!

Giant sandwiches! I don’t know how people bite into these but I anyways find a way to finish it! Everything is delicious. There’s no going wrong. I love the location as well! Grab a sandwich and eat on the beach. The only con is the parking but that’s mission beach for you.

I had the spicy tuna naked(which means that the«sandwich» literally came in a head of lettuce!) the tuna tasted great, but the composition of the sandwich was all wrong. When you order it «naked» you get all of the tuna in the bottom of the head of lettuce and the several layers of toppings are placed on top. I would have rather enjoyed a bite with all flavors at once. Also, watch out for the habanero mustard that they place on top! It’s a doozy!

Best deli in SD hands down. Those gluten free cookies with the subs? AMAZEballs. Did you know you can buy them by the half doz? Yea I may or may not have bought a few dozen before. The dapper dipper, turkey crandie and spicy tuna are my go to choices. They also have a yummy watermelon drink in the summer time. Their homemade bread and tasty deli meats make the sandwiches. Call ahead so you don’t have to wait!

Two stars for the parking and the salad. Four stars for the sandwiches, service, and free cookies offered after check in on Unilocal. Parking is hard. There’s very few parking available outside the shop. The salad here is very average. I got the cowboy salad the other day. The chipotle chicken was very dry and plain. Besides, I like cilantro dressing, but I wasn’t a fan of the sour cilantro dressing offered here. The good thing about this place is that they offer everything in half, so you won’t be eating too much. I do like the DAPPERDIPPER sandwich. I think I’ll try another salad next time when I’m here.

Probably my favorite sandwich shop in SD. Great ingredients and options, fresh baked bread, and they take pride in their sandwiches. My top 3 recommendations: 1. Dapper Dipper:(with Dutch crunch bread) roasted tri-tip, crispy onions, Swiss, horseradish and au jus. 2. Belly Up: kind of a riff on a bahn mi. pork belly, sweet & spicy coleslaw. 3. Rich Boy: seasoned grilled chicken, Monterey Jack, avocado, lettuce, tomato, Tabasco mayo. Great fresh baked bread options: Dutch crunch, garlic cheese, jalapeño Jack, blue cheese, pesto, wheat. They added some new side options too which is great compared to just chips. Complimentary cookie too. Negatives: skip the acai bowl and limited parking.

By far the best sandwich I have ever had! I had the Rubicon special! My boyfriend had two different ones the Stalin and the rich boy because he couldn’t make up his mind. Each sandwich has so many flavors along with amazing deli meat you can’t go wrong with any of them! Service is awesome on top of all that! Oh and don’t for get to grab one of each cookie they are to good to pass up!

I’ve been going to Rubicon for years. They have a ton of options for the build your own, which is great. Also their bread and tomato basil is awesome. Unfortunately, the last two times I’ve been here I’ve noticed that the portions have gotten considerably smaller. One of those times I had a single SLICE of turkey, I kid you not. I went back today, thinking that my previous experience was probably a fluke but was disappointed yet again. It is still an ok sandwich size but nothing like they advertise on their website. Don’t say you make«giant» sandwiches when they’re just average sized.

Really great food. While on vacation we couldn’t imagine waiting for food for over an hour at the other«Mission» breakfast/lunch spots. Especially when the sun was shining on the beach!!! So we were shocked when we found this place almost empty. Although as we sat there the place filled up. It is an order at the counter and sit type place. Me: Dipper Dapper. French dip-ish with horseradish sauce. Hubby: BEC breakfast sandwich. Brioche bun. So good Son: hogs breath on wheat bread. Fresh and filling. Tips. 1. They have several bread choices. Ask and learn. 2. They have a craft type soda fountain. I loved the ginger beer. My son tried a few options and was freaked out. But he is so used to main stream Coca-Cola type machines. 3. A half sandwich is huge. It is too big for one meal. Which makes the value that much better. See my pic.

From the ginger kefir on tap to the s’mores cookie and eerything in between this little deli is straight up ballin. First day we met a friend and all ate sandwiches soups and salads from the main menu. We went back 2 days later and did ‘build your own’ vegetarian sandwiches which were amazeballZ. You know what just quit reading this and go.

Tried the complimentary breakfast sandwich(they left postcards on local doorsteps) and was very unimpressed. Tried the Benny and the ham was too salty and the rest was bland. Could find/taste the«hollandaise» mentioned on the menu. Still friendly service but prefer the non-breakfast items. Also, disappointed that the only bread available to buy when they were open was wheat(guessing leftovers from the day before).

The sandwiches are sooo good. I love the pork belly. But the customer service is TERRIBLE. The people working here are too cool to be friendly or accommodating. If you hate your job, work somewhere else… Service is incredibly slow even when there are no customers and a full kitchen staff. They often forget things on my orders, or give me the wrong thing entirely. But I can’t help but going back because of the lack of much other dining options in Mission Beach. Especially for a YUMMY sandwich. Food gets 5 stars. But the service gets 2 stars at best. Fix your employees for more regular customers in the community and not just tourists.

I can’t believe how great this deli is!!! The Spicy Tuna on Jalapeño bread had my taste buds going crazy! If you love spice and flavor this combo is for you! The whole size is big enough to feed two. Unless you are feeling greedy because it is so good and worth every bite!

Like others, the spicy tuna knocked my socks off! I agree, I should’ve been in sandles, but I digress. The jalapeño bread perfectly complimented the sandwich and the cold thai peanut noodle side was the icing on the proverbial cake. Speaking of desserts, check in on Unilocal and let that qualify yo trick azz for 3 free mini cookies. I’ll be back to try anything I can in the pescaterian/vegetarian realm! Keep up the great work!

My new favorite sandwich spot! I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile and boy have I been missing out! Amazing sandwiches(rich boy!) & huuuuuge portions– stick with the ‘half’ size when it comes to the sammies. Their salads looks SOLID as well– that’s what I’ll be getting next time I go! Sides are available: I tried the bacon potato salad & it was way too dry for my liking(don’t waste the calories) Check in so you can devour 3 yummy FREE mini cookies(next time I’m going to buy a big one bc they were that good & fressssh) As you can imagine, lunch time is super busy! But I walked in there and got my order to-go and it took 10 min max!(So don’t be afraid by the long line) Only con: street parking(mission beach duh!)

This place is ridiculously delicious. Randomly stopped in while on vacation(thank you Unilocal!) and split the dapper Dan and the pork belly Sammy with my sister. Huge portions, and I am still dreaming of the pork belly. Amazing flavor and texture combination. I also wanted to say how much I appreciated the staff. We brought two little kids and two babies in with us and they happily tailored sandwiches for the kids and little cups of veggies and fruit for the babies. No fuss about it and they didn’t even charge us for a few small side items. Fresh bread, fresh ingredients, fresh made juice! Everyone left very full and happy. I can only hope they start one in portland!!!

The first time I visited here, I came back two days in a row! It was THAT good! I came back a year later and ordered the Dapper Dipper and it wasn’t really great. I’m going back again this week so I’m hoping it’s a hit. if not, then i don’t think I’ll be coming back. I’ve tried the Dapper Dipper(my fav!), Dom Pastrami, and The Stallion. Portions are huge! Reviews below are from my first visit. My thought on the second visit was. .meeeh. Dapper Dipper & Dom Pastrami: both DELICIOUS and melt in your mouth delicious. I was wondering where these sandwiches have been all my life. The Stallion: This is an Italian sandwich. I didn’t think too much of it and would not get it again. Mini cookies: I’m not a big cookies/sweets fan but these itty bitty cookies have stolen my heart. I LOVETHEM!

Came here on a whim with friends since one of them has a gluten-free diet. Overall atmosphere is very chill and the place is a bit small for parties bigger than 5. Their sandwiches are REALLY good– one of the best I had. You can get either half or whole sandwich and I got the Hog’s breath half a sandwich on Garlic Cheese bread. Their bread is ONPOINT. I was surprised by how tasty the bread is. Everything about the sandwich is a 10⁄10 except I feel like $ 10 for half a sandwich isn’t really affordable. They also give a free mini cookie and even though it looks dry it was actually soft and somewhat chewy. I would come here again if I’m in the area.

To be fair, I really only get one sandwich here. But it’s my favorite sandwich. So sad they took the T.A.B.L.E. off the… well, the table! And on garlic cheese bread? Yes, please! It’s even yum after being in the fridge overnight. Adore the mini cookie wrapped up with the order. If the lot is filled, parking can be difficult to find. Close proximity to beach if you want to picnic. Get a sandwich from here, you guys! Big portions, yum ingredients.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch after finishing a run along the beach. The inside of the deli was clean and modern. Along the left wall they have a print that shows the crowded beach from years past. When it was our turn to order I couldn’t make up my mind. I asked the guy behind the counter for his favorites which were the Rich Boy and Dapper Dipper. I went with the Rich Boy: Grilled Chipotle Chicken, Monterey Jack, Avocado, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Garlic Tabasco Mayo and I chose a wheat roll. My wife ordered the Rubicob Salad: Baby Artisan Romaine, House Roasted Turkey, Bacon, Cherry Tomato, Blue Cheese, Boiled Egg, Avocado, Buttermilk Ranch and a cup of Tomato Basil Bisque soup. The chicken in my sandwich was moist and the bread was awesome. It was a well put together sandwich but I wouldn’t order it again. It wasn’t a bad sandwich its just wasn’t for me. My Wife really enjoyed her salad and she said the turkey was extremely moist. I tried some of her soup and it was one of the best Tomato Bisque’s I have had. We will definitely come back. We got the(3) free cookies with the Unilocal check in deal and they were very good. You do get(1) cookie with your sandwich.

I tried a small sample of their pork belly sandwich at the San Diego Magazine Best of Party(ok, went back twice!) just the week before and I couldn’t wait to come try it again. I had never been here before, so kudos to you guys for bringing a dish to the event, that brought me into your shop! They knew they had me at pork belly. This sammie consists of Slow Roasted Pork Belly, Sweet & Spicy Coleslaw, Spring Greens, Miso Ginger Mayo. What a tasty combo! I had their garlic parmesan bread and it was killer. Others are right, half a sammie is all you really need unless you’re like a 20 yr old surfer boy and can eat anything and not gain weight. Shut up, I’m not talking to you anymore. A side of their potato salad with bacon in it was pretty damn good, but was $ 3 more. Half a sammich was like $ 8 and change. Boy, did I luck out with a parking spot right in front, because we all know it SUCKS to park in Mission Beach!

FANTASTIC. Really. Excellent salads, super tempting sandwiches with great alternatives for those looking for healthy and tasty gluten free options as well. Acai bowls were terrific too. Very happy with this super fresh, delicious AND healthy option. A great find. Parking is scarce but available in what looks like a laundromat lot just beside the café.

Yummy is all I really can say. Your taste buds will be happy to experience any option you choose on this menu. I love the Tuna with Pesto bread and the Vegetarian one-I can’t remember the name on Pesto Bread. Comes with a mini cookie and they are delicious. My only issue is that it is kind of expensive but the sandwiches are well proportioned so it makes up for the expense. A half sandwich will feed pretty much anyone. They are a nice size.

Hands-down the best sandwiches in San Diego. The bread is beyond amazing, and their homemade mustards are what set their sandwiches apart. Also a fan of the acai bowl and their salads. My go-to is the spicy tuna sandwich on the jalapeño bread. Every order comes with a homemade mini-cookie. Makes me happy and will probably make you happy too. The sandwiches are massive, so a half sandwich is usually enough. Always really friendly people behind the counter and in the kitchen. If you’re around Mission Beach in San Diego you must stop here!

I saw you putting up a new menu when I came in today. Just checked the menu on this website, and the new salads and soups(you were adding today), looked really appealing so please update your menu here! Btw, I had the Little Dipper today, and you’ve added a crispy onion stack(on the menu on the wall, should post a pic of it here maybe?, yet that’s not on this menu either.

I have a new favorite sandwich place. I was in Mission Beach last week at lunch time and I have been wanting to check out Rubicon for a while. Being a grey weekday, parking wasn’t a challenge which was nice. I ordered the Dom Pastram on garlic cheese bread. Delicious! Every element of the sandwich was excellent and when combined the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. They know how to make a good sandwich. I got the potato salad as a side because the description said bacon. It was good(«bacon») but in the end a pretty straight forward potato salad. The sandwich was the star. I am plotting my return visit already.

I’ve been putting off writing this review for awhile, because I know I’m just going to get hungry and crave a Rubicon sandwich right about now. This deli has the best sandwiches in the entire world I promise. The bread is so incredibly fresh, and bread can literally make or break a sandwich. My personal favorite is the Grilled Cheese with avocado on the Jalapeño Jack bread… the bread has the ideal amount of jalapeño spice, the cheese is perfectly melted, and avocado makes everything that much better so what more could I possibly want? Also, just FYI: the Grilled Cheese is no longer listed on the actual menu, but can still be ordered just like normal! On the rare occasion I decide not to get the grilled cheese, I usually go with the Crandie, Rich Boy, or Whales Veg(awkward name but I suppose I can roll with it). These are excellent, too, but normally I get them with the Pesto bread because it complements the flavors of these sandwiches more. Rubicon also has wonderful gluten-free bread available if that is what you prefer. For drinks, they also have a few fresh-brewed beverages, including a great lemonade. It’s hard for me to resist the little glass jar apple juices, though, as those remind me of my childhood and are filled with the best tasting apple juice I have ever been able to find. Another perk of going to Rubicon is the free mini cookies that come with each meal. For your first Unilocal check-in, they will give you a few extra cookies, too! They also have a nice wrapping station when you decide wowwww the full sandwich is actually way too much food and I would love to save the rest for later to avoid a major food coma now. Rubicon also takes USD Campus Cash, which is convenient for all of the students in the Mission Beach area, and they are very convenient to order catering platters from in my past experience dealing with placing /picking up large group orders. My only request is please stay open later so I can get my favorite grilled cheese sandwich whenever I want :)

Yum! I can’t believe I waited so long to try this place. It’s def worth the wait in line(plus it moves quickly). I ordered the Rubicon Special on the Dutch crunch bread. The bread was perfect a little flaky and toasty. The rubicon was delicious perfect amount of roasted peppers and pesto mayo and it comes with smoked Gouda and lettuce. A well balanced sandwich. I got half the sandwich to share bc I was told it’s pretty substantial. It definitely was! Enough for my bf and I. I also got free cookies for checking in on Unilocal! And they were yummy.
