This is a new business. It’s still a sandwich shop, but a completely new name and menu. They still have the menu of the old business on the wall, so they instruct you not to look at it… okay. I ordered a turkey sandwich with avocado, bacon and cheddar cheese. They were out of bacon. Got home and there was no avocado on my sandwich. The cheddar on my sandwich was in half inch thick blocks instead of slices. I don’t think I’ll be giving this place another chance. I’m giving this two instead of one stars because the woman that made my sandwich was very friendly.

Under new ownership since my last posting. The menu is smaller and so are the sandwiches. The quality is high and it’s convenient, but it’s not the place it was six years ago.

New ownership. The original owners loved making their sandwiches as much as we loved eating them. Now, it’s a sandwich stop that can be easily topped and simply skipped. Go somewhere else.

I came here over the weekend to try it out and I was semi impressed. There are so many great review on Unilocal so I figured it had to be amazing, but it was just a normal sandwich to me. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich. It was good, nothing special though. I definitely think there are better sandwich places in the area.

I have a friend who loves this place, but I was under-whelmed. While the meats are Boars Head… good quality, the bread is boring. It doesn’t seem homemade or fresh. The veggie topping selection is good with sprouts and avocados. I would prefer my sandwich on a fresh roll and maybe with some rotisserie chicken versus deli meat. It’s all okay, just nothing exceptional.

Love this place. Been coming here for years. The people working here are great with their customer service but also know how to make some of the best sandwiches in SD. I’m torn between the Seinfeld and the Fred Flintstone as my favorite. Guess it depends on the day and the craving. Please support them and tip them well. This is one of my favorite spots in PB. Word up.

Really plain. Pretty small sandwiches… for the price. Watched the chick making them smoke a cig out front while we were eating them — gross

Great sandwiches! Although they could use some higher quality bread. But the Boars Head meat was awesome!

Boars Head!(Great meat and cheese) But wasted on cheap bread and a dirty place. The worker was smoking before she made my sandwich. I don’t think she washed her hands after smoking, gross. Very disappointed by this place. PB needs a killer sandwich shop.

I was very disappointed. The bread was stale and the«sides» were tiny and tasteless. The meat and cheese was delicious, but with sale bread, the sandwich was incomplete.

I seldom review on Unilocal, actually this might be my first. I was walking around in PB and noticed this joint for the first time. I was hungry and thought why not? THEBESTSPONTANEOUSFOODDECISIONEVER! I grew up in Jersey where we have the best sandwiches, AND my uncle actually owned a successful deli in NYC… I know sandwiches! Sandwiches in SD generally depress me except a few locations(don’t even get me started on jersey mike’s!!) but this was a treat for my mouth! The kaiser roll my sandwich was on was amazing, and I am so glad i didn’t get extra meat because I had a hard time finishing this sandwich(sly stallone on kaiser instead of french roll) as is and I’m someone who gets a 3 by 3 at in-n-out. A must if you know and love sandwiches. Such a gem! Can’t wait to come back here to try their other cho

I’m so sorry, but it used to be better before the new owner. The meat is sliced too thick and the sandwich is assembled all wrong. It’s a poorly constructed sandwich with no finesse and no artistry. It’s just not very good, especially at these prices. I don’t see how this guy is going to make the rent on Garnet Ave.

Four Stars for the Bowl, Three Stars for the service So I finished my acai bowl at Olive Café and needed another one stat! I had to run to Trader Joe’s and I remember seeing a peruvian kitchen across the way that had the acai bowls but I also remember reading on Unilocal that Chalkboard Deli had them as well. I had my friends waiting in the car, so I decided to hit Chalkboard Deli as I thought it would be quick. Wrong, oh so wrong! When I got into the little shop there was a kid in front of me ordering a sandwich. There was just one woman running this joint. Now us woman are pretty good at getting things done. This lady was the worst. I finally got up to the counter and placed my order. She told me that she was out of blueberries so I could replace it with either mangos or kiwi, I went with mango. Once she finally got it all taken care of she made her way back to her little prep station. While I understand she took the sandwich order first, I guess I just assumed she would have made my acai bowl first. Because its just layering granola and blended berries and topping it with fruit. But no she made the sandwich first. She slowly made the sandwich, while making a few phone calls in between cutting the bread, the cutting the lettuce and so on. She finally finished up and them moved onto the acai bowl! The kid who order the sandwich was with his friend who was also waiting for something … what do yah know an acai bowl. He must have seen from my pacing and annoyed look on my face that I was getting impatient. He quickly made a comment about how she’s really slow but it’s totally worth it. Finally, the acai bowl was in my hands! This one was a little different. The acai wasn’t as blended as the bowl at Olive, giving the berry a thicker more chunky consistency which I didn’t mind. I also really liked the mangos instead of the blueberries. I also asked for extra granola, it was crunchy and sweet adding texture to the bowl. I secretly enjoyed the granola at the bottom as it got smothered in honey and a little soggy from the acai. Overall an amazing bowl but was it worth the wait, I don’t know! Not much of a price different, but it was interesting to find another spot serving up this superfood with a different spin on it.

Great sando spot w/good people watching if you can snag a seat out on their Garnet patio. Very friendly new manager that made us feel welcome and let us take our time to make the tough decision as to which ‘which to get. They do take credit cards now, so ignore those older comments complaining about that. They *could* update their menu — the Tony Gwynn should probably be the Tony Gwynn, Sr., since Jr. is no longer a Padre! :)

Stopped in at the Chalkboard Deli today for a nice bite. Pulled right into a parking spot RIGHT in front of the Deli(yay!) and headed in to explore. Right off the bat I appreciate a Deli that has an exclusive product or brand of goods so the fact that they are a Boar’s Head Deli puts them a step above the rest right off the bat. Walked in to the tiny place and the counterman immediately told me about today’s special which was a turkey bacon & cheese with a drink for a special price. That was great, love the helpfulness! He Grabbed a menu for me to look at & Took my order(word for word) which was a(BLT). **Review disclaimer** if you’ve read any of my previous sandwich reviews you may be able to tell I am on a QUEST for the holy grail of BLT** With that being said I asked for #21 or The Donald Trump aka their BLT to be «well done» and«extra crispy» on toasted sourdough and mayo. I got this all to go and then stepped outside so other people can come in an order. Seriously, because the place is the size of a matchbox, if you’re not sitting down to eat, wait outside for your food… The sammy was wrapped lovingly and the service was great. The bread was YUM, the tomato was deep red, lovely and juicy but the bacon left much to be desired. It sadly was not extra crispy or well done… It was fatty, stringy and not easily bitten into. This kinda blew but didn’t give me a bad view of this place… I know not to judge a sandwich shop just on the bacon alone but now I just know to try something else. Staff was great, the other sandwich descriptions seemed amazing and classic. I’m psyched to go back and try a different type of sandwich and some juice. I’d also like to give them another chance to master the art of «extra crispy» bacon but if you don’t get it right the first time then I’m guessing you were dropped on your HEAD as a baby. The only thing I did not like about this place was something beyond their control… a MMJ dispensary next door with a shadeball security standing outside looking like he lost something on the ground… Across the street there was a motorbike cop sitting and watching. I couldn’t tell if the cop was checking out the shop or waiting for speeders but I didn’t like the feeling… BUT I’m sure people«getting hungry» over there does not hurt the business. I just wanted a BLT not ganja… However that combo does go GREAT together I’ll be back to Chalkboard to try everything! It’s looking like a real winner and has great«yum factor» or «yumability». However Sully’s has this place officially beat on the BLT scene. Chalkboard BLT = $ 6.50(tax built in) Sully’s BLT = $ 4.99(w/tax 5.48) Yum, over and out.

Love sandwiches? Then you will love Chalkboard Deli! A small deli with friendly staff and lots of delicious & fresh menu choices. The family owned shop uses Boars Head meats and cheeses. Has a fresh selection of sides and fresh breads to make an out of this world meal made with a dose of love. x3
