Salad Sensations

Who took away Salad Sensations? This was one of my favorite food locations at San Diego State as a freshmen. They offered the best Santa Fe Salad! I know it’s not healthy because of all the dressing, but it was delicious. Hopefully once SDSU is done with reconstructing they will bring back a similar place. I loved going here because sometimes they would have good $ 5 meal deals. These $ 5 meal deals were important because everything at Salad Sensations was freakin’ expensive. SDSU! Why did you get rid of my favorite salad place on Campus!): I wish they would have replaced Salad Bistro in East Commons. It’s rather expensive in terms of salad but damn are their salads great. I’m not super picky so I tend to check-​mark off everything that doesn’t cost more money. I could eat here every day if I had to.

Getting my favorite salad again was the only good thing about school starting, but alas, I’m left disappointed…
-$ 1 extra to make it a wrap (previously free)
-$ 1.29 extra for avocado (previously free)
–I waited 10+ minutes for my salad when there were only 3 salads to make before mine (previously would have taken less than 5 minutes)
–The size of the salad is about ²⁄₃ of what it used to be.
Damn budget cuts! =(

I’ve been coming to this place since they first came to SDSU.
The salads are excellent but the prices are a bit high. Also, if there is a crowd, do expect a long wait.
The only reason why this place doesn’t get 5 stars from me is my issue with their steak. It seems like they cook their steak beforehand and keep it warm in a food warmer. By doing this, my steak is always well done and dry.
Next time, I’ll see if I can get my steak made to order, if so, this place deserves 5 stars.

This place serves salads. They’re decent but I really don’t find anything exciting or special about them. Healthiest place to dine on campus so I’m happy they exist but come on, where’s the flavor for the price you’re charging! Love the fact that you can choose every ingredient and have your salad exactly how you want it but in the end, its not as satisfying as I’d like to have. I like to get a salad with balsamic vinaigrette and steak here, it’s the best combination I’ve had here.

salad sensation is probably the only food service on campus that provides a decent amount of greens.
they charge ridiculous amount of premium for any protein, but again, health never comes cheap.

This review is referring to their $ 5 meal deals only.
These meals are a great alternative to the $ 7 – 8 salads. The $ 5 meal comes with a fountain drink, so it’s a steal. I’ve had the $ 5 Chicken Caesar salad and the Southwest Chicken salad. I enjoyed the latter much more, but the Chicken Caesar salad was ok. They beat Aztec Market’s salads any day.
I’m not surprised most of the salads cost so much though. Healthier foods tend to be more expensive, customer can pick every single salad ingredient, and these salads come with freshly grilled meats. I don’t always eat salads, but I love this place!

Dear SDSU,
I understand with the state budget cuts you too have needed to cut back on funding, but is it really necessary to rip off your students with terrible food? I received a HANDFUL of lettuce, bread crumbs, and cheese and you find it OKAY to charge me $ 5? To top it off, when I ask one of your servers if my salad can come with some chicken I am greeted with a, «sure that’ll be 3 EXTRA dollars.» Would you like me to empty or my pockets now or would you like to continue robbing me? If I wanted to pay $ 8 for a salad, I’d buy a decent, gourmet one at California Pizza Kitchen. I mean seriously, how can you claim that your salad is «sensational» when in fact it is less than satisfactory?
