I recently started working in the area and tried several delis. This is by far the best place for lunch. Their is has a lot more than just sandwiches and they have 3 daily specials. I really like this place, price is very reasonable for the quality of food is very good. I’ve been here 3 times this week for lunch and twice for breakfast and coffee. Everything i’ve tried has been pretty good. I have been telling everyone in my office and they have been very pleased. The level of customer service here excellent.

It’s a good cheap place. They fast & good customer service. I like that they have 3 daily specials. I got the French dip with fries & soda for $ 8. Thought that was a great deal & it was good better than going to a fast food chain.

If you work nearby, this is a good place to stop in and get a quick lunch. They have a lot of options on their menu including sandwiches, burgers, wraps, salads, and rice bowls. They have a lot of seating inside, which is a plus. I had the turkey and bacon sandwich and it was ok, but not great. Next time, I’ll go with a burger.

There are not a lot of choices in the Mira Mar area that are not fast food. This place is quick and very good. Their chicken salad is excellent and a really good turkey burger. The daily specials also never disappoint.

Good food, reasonable prices and a pretty broad selection. Their specials are usually a good choice to make, especially the orange chicken. Ambiance is not much, but as lunch places go, it works!

I get very, very specific food cravings and when I want a grilled chicken sandwich, this is where I head. It’s all about the Southwest Chicken Sandwich with fries. Years ago, I worked down the street, so this place was in my weekly rotation. We could walk here. I have tried a lot of what’s on the menu, and it’s all pretty decent. The deli sandwiches are good and piled pretty high. The prices are all nice. My co-worker loved the yakisoba here. As for me, as soon as I landed on the Southwest Chicken Sandwich one day, it became my go-to order. The chicken is a flat chicken breast, and almost always well cooked, i.e. tender. It is served on a grilled bun, with bacon, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato and mayo. It’s a simple combination but the flavors all marry well and the sandwich is mouth watering. The fries are good too. They are thin cut and have a nice seasoning salt on them. Yesterday I had that chicken sandwich craving and I trekked all the way here. Totally worth it.

Have a rotating lunch special everyday, food is made fresh, but its not nothing too spectacular. It definitely hits the spot for lunch though

If your close in the area and want a good price sandwich and some fries this is the place to go. Otherwise I’m sure you could find a better deli because personally i have had better. But still this place is not bad whatsoever. Its quality is awesome, the owner is very nice. I will definitely be back Update* they have a new cook who messed up a couple of my to go orders already. Ordered a volcano and it came with no salsa… Basically its now just a turkey melt. It might be awhile to they are back on their game so I’m dropping my stars to 3

Ok… Random stumble on this place. Left me with little pleasure. Food was greasy and over cooked. Reasonable prices but poor service. They forgot my fries so i had to wait an extra 10 min to have them made. But I guess since it’s tucked far back from the main streets, they don’t have much competition so they don’t have to be on their best behavior or cook the greatest food.

…Had the Bento Box… it was OK. For a deli in a business park I guess its better than AM/PM. I dont think I will come back I guess I will be packing a lunch form now on.

Sandwich Island has the best breakfast! And Great Lunch specials. Located in a business zone it is the ONLY local place to go if need to eat FAST when your tummy is empty and work calls you back to your desk.

Any place that has a sandwich named HumuhumuNukuNukuApua is awesome. Although they don’t use the real humuhumnunukuapua fish in the sandwich, still. trying to pronounce the order without giggling is an experience… to me i guess. The place is kinda hidden, they don’t just serve sandwiches tho… they also have japenese bento boxes and different daily specials that aren’t sandwiches. It’s a tiny spot with great customer services. Hit or miss on the quality of food. I ordered the teriyaki salmon bento box one time and the salmon was really dry. The décor inside is really not much to look at. Then menu is very huge and their prices are affordable.

Sandwich Island is not a bad place. Really, it’s not. But it’s not great. There’s a reason it earned the nickname«Fly Deli» from businesses in the area. Yep, a co-worker found a fly in her food once. Anyhow, it’s a pretty standard little setup for something to eat when you forget to pack a lunch or don’t want to waste the lunch hour up on Mira Mesa. The prices are reasonable — less than $ 6 for a wrap — and the servings are appropriate if not pretty decent in some cases. I like the bento boxes when I’m really feeling hungry. I ordered a smoothie once and wasn’t impressed, but I did get a brain freeze. Does that count for something? Also, it’s hard to screw up breakfast and they haven’t screwed up my breakfast(yet). Toast and eggs — pretty tough to mess up. It’s too bad they don’t get more quality ingredients and that’s the big reason I can’t give this place more than three stars. The side salads could use some better lettuce and the tomatoes are never all that great. Is it really that hard to get good fresh produce? Plus the chicken is bland unless it’s chicken teriyaki(rule of thumb: slather anything in teriyaki sauce and you won’t notice if it’s old much less inedible). I like the owners however and the service has always been friendly. They will take a call-ahead order if you’re slammed at work and can’t wait that extra twenty minutes to get your meal. It isn’t necessary to create such conveniences, but they like to help.

It’s easy to miss from the curb. If you blink you could miss it. Fortunately, that’s a plus in my book. I’ve always said that for sandwich shop types, better décor doesn’t always mean better food. The décor in this place is minimal, but don’t mistake that for gross — This place is immaculately clean. In fact, I’ve seen better décor in a tricked out Chevy Nova. However, I’m not coming to a place to stare at the walls. I’m headed there for lunch and I have to say — the food is really good! I ate the Maui Meatball Sub/Sandwich and this isn’t that processed craptastic sandwich you’ll get at Subway. No scrimping on the cheese or sauce. The fries were great and I received a generous portion. The pricing is spot on. For this nice sized meal, I paid like $ 5. Not too shabby! Can’t wait to go there again!

when i first started working in the area, my co-workers were telling me about this great deli just down the street. it turns out i accidentally went in the wrong direction and instead found Sandwich Island. it then became my go-to deli spot for that entire year. everything i ever tried there has been delish; BLTs, mushroom burgers, healthy salmon bowl, even chicken katsu! their breakfast selection is huge! they have a french toast and pancakes, bacon and eggs, and even breakfast sandwiches all for under $ 5(last time i went there, anyway). their breakfast burrito and salsa is thee bomb, btw! Mimi, the lady who usually takes the orders at front counter, is so friendly and nice. the place is pretty popular with the locals, so if you go during the lunch rush you might have to wait a bit. i’d advice calling in orders or going after the rush dies down.

I worked within walking distance and was a regular. The cashier lady remembered my name and always included«extra fries» with my meals at no extra charge. They have a really delicious breakfast burrito that comes with a great salsa. For lunch, their hot sandwiches were always good. I liked the grilled reuben. My other favorite was the spicy guacamole chicken wrap. They have some kind of delivery service also, but I never did that so I don’t know the details on that.

This place is perfectly acceptable for me considering they are in close proximity to my work and deliver with a $ 10 minimum. The food is pretty standard; I love their chili however. It’s not homemade, but it’s always so delicious for some reason. Calling in orders are difficult at times, because I never understand what she is saying and she never understands anything I say. I try to keep it simple though, because if you make it too complicated, they’ll probably mess up your order.

Before I was laid off, Sandwich Island was the ‘other’ deli where I ate lunch about 2 days per week. Overall, the food was consistently great, and I would highly recommend the hot menu items over their cold options. My two favorite sandwiches were the Reuben and the turkey melt, both of which were toasty, tender, and came with LOADS of freshly prepared french fries or a side salad. I also ordered the Shrimp, Cheese, and Chicken burrito when I was very hungry. This burrito is really juicy and contains large helpings of all ingredients mentioned above with salsa and spices. Meals were reasonably priced for the helpings, especially their daily specials. The staff were extremely friendly. They only gave me the wrong order three times in the two years I ordered food there. I would not recommend the cold sandwiches. Although they are still tasty, they are much smaller, blander, and easy to get tired of. I never tried the salads, but from what I saw handed out, they were large, cheap, and loaded with customizable items. I would recommend giving this place a try. Beware– when the deli gets busy during lunch hour, waiting times can be long for specialty food and they sometimes get the orders mixed up. Make sure they give you what you ordered.

Sandwich Island is «meh» incarnate. One of the most important things I’ve learned about cooking is to always use the best ingredients possible. Sacrificing ingredient quality in order to save money immediately becomes noticeable when tasting your meal. No where is this more evident than Sandwich Island. I’ve visited this establishment a handful of times and have found their food to be slightly below the numerous alternatives found in the Mira Mesa/Miramar area. The chicken I’ve tried here is bland(Chicken Club) and not seasoned well(Chicken Caesar Salad). The side salad was literally a pile of iceberg lettuce with tiny amounts of shredded cabbage and carrots. Zzzzz… Zzzzzz… Wha?! Oh yeah, I was writing a review. That being said, Sandwich Island does boast an incredibly broad menu. Surpassing Miramar Café’s triple-genre menu(Mexican, American, Greek), Sandwich Island is the only place I know where you can order a bento box, burger, Reuben, and an enchilada under one roof. Taking a page from Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, I think this place could improve itself greatly by halving the available menu items. The money saved by not having to stock such a diverse array of ingredients could instead be spent on higher quality items. However, until a change like this is made I fear Sandwich Island will continue seeing an empty dining room at lunchtime as I did today.
