For those who expecting some gourmet food(just cuz you’re in la jolla) you are so wrong. And this place is located in the mall. Its amazing how some of these reviews are out of total ignorance. Chef surprise here… and with the asian cuisine competition, broaden your horizons and give this place a try… I think its better than the other fast food places(manila mira mesa)

I had my doubts, but wow, this place is actually not too bad at all. The prices can be pretty steep and the portions can be small for mall food though. $ 8 for 2 items? Ouch. The elderly couple who work here are so sweet, especially the older lady. She’s so nice. I got the pancit noodles, very well flavored; the sweet sausage(2 per order) which were delicious and the pork rind thing which is my favorite, but it’s very fatty. That’s probably why I like it thought haha. Overall, I’d give it 3 stars for the service and the flavor. I would give it 4 stars if the prices were a little more affordable. I’ve been craving this place, so yeah, I’ll be back.

I always think eating out should be a personal experience meaning that by eating you get to know who cooks the food and that they love making it for you. Josephine the female owner made me and my husband feel that way. In that crowded food court she hailed me over and asked me to taste the chicken bbq and I was suprised, it tasted great and she was more than happy to show us the layout. We got pancit, fried rice, sweet sausauge, chkn adobo and chkn bbq and a couple plantain lumpia fritters all of it tasted so so so good, my mouth waters at the thought. I’m not a frequent eater of filipino food but when I was a kid in Guam my neighbor was a pretty filipino lady who always brought over home cooked food and taught my mother how to make lumpia. Sizzling Eggrolls took me back there especially the pancit and Josephine was so nice we had to thank her for the meal. This is for you Josephine and Jaime. Keep it up because we will definitely be back for more!

Their servings are too small which can only make a school-age boy/girl full; and expensive! The taste of their eggrolls are not so special! Their chicken curry tasted like they added«patis»(or fish sauce).

The chicken was good, but for a place called Sizzling Eggrolls, the egg rolls were old, cold, and tasteless. I’ll go elsewhere.

This place is borderline 3 stars but what makes this place stand out are their soups. I’ve never been a die-hard fan of Filipino food simply b/c I never ate it much growing up. The female owner of this place is super nice. Sooo nice that when she gives out free samples/tastes of the food, you can’t really NOT order b/c you feel bad(like saying no to an older aunt or something). I wasn’t too impressed w/their adobo and skewers. But ordered a 2 item combo and a side of their soup. It wasn’t cheap. I think it was about $ 8 or something and it wasn’t the biggest of portions. But no matter. I didn’t care b/c the soup they gave me was this chicken and chayote sour soup. But my sis and I loved this soup. I was craving this dish for 2 wks afterwards. I’d call them every so often to ask if they had it on the menu that day but they never did. So went there one day and the nice woman convinced me to try their other soup. It was pork sparerib, eggplant, radish sour soup. And omg, this was good too! She said they always have this soup. What confused me was when i asked her just for a bowl of soup and the price, she said $ 6(and it was for maybe a pint size container). I kinda looked horrified and then she said for me, it would be $ 5. Still seemed alot but I didn’t care b/c the soup was that good. I took my Filipino friend there and she thought the food was ‘ok’. Kinda have to agree w/the other Unilocaler that said she got kinda tired of the food after eating ¾ of it. That’s what happened to us as well w/our combo plates. Regardless, this place is convenient. And honestly, it’s not like everything in the food court is THAT affordable. I think all the vendors in that food court are kinda pricey. Anyhow, I’ll be visiting this place again for their soups!

I’m a halfie, so I love me some good filipino food. I wasn’t feeling so great today, so I thought it would be comforting to eat some food that reminded me of home. I was greeted nicely and introduced to all of their food. Sinigang, longanisa, lumpia, pancit, adobo, etc etc. I decided to settle for some steamed rice and chicken adobo, my second favorite filipino dish of all time and one of my favorite dishes in general. When I went to pay, I was a little horrified. $ 6.51 for my food! There wasn’t even that much on the plate… So I dug in. The adobo was very different than what I’m used to. It tasted extremely sweet, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but not what comes to my mind when I think about adobo. After getting ¾ through my plate, I just got tired of it. Maybe some Filipinos like their adobo sweet, but I don’t. Bring on the soy sauce and vinegar for me, please! Something else that bothered me was the rice. The rice was half dry and half mushy. How is this even possible? It was still edible, but I would have rather it been better, or at least consistent. Overall, I was not very impressed. I feel bad saying this about a filipino establishment, especially one in La Jolla where there is NOTHING filipino, but if I’m going to spend that kind of money on a small plate of food, I want some correctly cooked rice and some non-sweet adobo. The food wasn’t AWFUL, I just wouldn’t come here if I was craving some great Filipino food. Thanks for introducing La Jolla-ians to Filipino food, Sizzling Eggrolls. As for me, I’ll stick to Mira Mesa and National City for my Filipino cravings.

Okay first of all, I have to say, «Sizzling Eggrolls?» I’ve never had eggrolls from here haha. But aside from that, this is a great place to go if you want a tasty alternative to the run-of-the-mill mall food that people usually eat. Now, I’ve gone to Sizzling Eggrolls a bunch of times with my Filipino boyfriend since it’s really close by UCSD, and we like going here whenever he needs his authentic Filipino food fix. The lady who usually mans the counter is really nice and knows us as regulars. Usually I get the rice with two sides which comes out to about $ 8. The food is pretty good; there is minimal greasiness, it is very flavorful, and I’m always always full after I eat there. Even though the prices are a little high for a mall food place, you will certainly get what you paid for. I don’t know of another Filipino place in the area, so if you have a craving, Sizzling Eggrolls has my vote!

I was eager to try Sizzling egg-rolls because I love lumpia. There is only one cardinal sin you can commit when you name your restaurant Sizzling egg-rolls, and that is to serve said egg rolls cold. I went to Sizzling Egg-rolls and my eyes were drawn to the lumpia. The lumpia were in a metal bowl and I thought, oh the lady working there must have just retrieved these rolls from the hot oil and I am about to be transported to the land of lumpia nirvana, a place where you bite into a hot crispy wrapper with tasty ingredients that make your taste-buds sing. My taste buds cried. The lumpia was old, cold and soggy. I ate 1.5 and tossed the rest. The lady working there looked pretty fierce so I slunk by after my dining disaster and peeked back to see the rest of my lumpia’s brethren, sitting in the same metal bowl, languishing in the desperate knowledge that they too were doomed to insult another palate at UTC.

It’s nice to see a Filipino restaurant at a Food Court except I honestly can’t say the food was that tasty, especially since I was craving some and it was too far to go to the other places Unilocal had suggested. That and I found out that a lot of Filipino restaurants close around 6−7pm! What is up with that? Anyhow, I’m not sure if it’s because the food had been sitting out for a while and it was near closing time for the UTC but I really wasn’t impressed by the pancit or the pork dishes. On top of that, the food and drink cost us almost $ 20 for two people. The woman who sold us the food was really friendly so that’s sort of what saved this review from being a one-star. This is the first Filipino joint I’ve been to in San Diego and I hope to try more on my next visit.

Yay for filipino food in UTC area! I love that it’s now in my neck of the woods instead of Mira Mesa or National City. So I’m not Filipino but I am a huge fan of filipino food. I especially like this place since the food is not drowning in its own grease like the other filipino takeouts. I’ll still eat greasy filipino food because I love it that much but it’s just nice not having to eat oil sometimes. Additionally, call me a non-Asian eater but I don’t like chewing on bones and eating fat or guts in the meats at the typical filipino takeout places. I like this place since it saves me the trouble of eating around the guts and bones. However, this place is little bit more expensive than those other places. It’s $ 8 for 2 item combo with pancit and I believe it’s a dollar cheaper if it is just with steamed rice. To compensate, at least they pack on the food. I like the beefsteak with onion, chicken stew, beef stew, chicken adobo, and pancit. It was all very tasty and flavorful without the heavy grease. The meats were all relatively tender(not chewy). I didn’t like the pork adobo(meat was too tough) and kare kare(surprisingly the only super greasy food there and not a lot of meat). Kare kare is my absolute favorite filipino dish so I was a tad disappointed. I had better at the other places. Regardless, I’m a fan and will be coming back again and again.

So happy there’s a Filipino place around La Jolla. As a student in UCSD in an Asian-American fraternity, I’m completely surrounded by Koreans, Taiwanese, Chinese & other Asians. Granted I love Korean food & sushi but there are times I crave food from my roots. This place is at a bomb location: in the center of the food court of UTC. Right by my place & right by work, it’s so easy to grab flip food. The ladies there are so nice & they are great at getting free samples out & hustling for business. Josie is my favorite, she’s very generous when it comes to rice!

I’m happy that there’s Filipino food somewhere besides the expected locations of Mira Mesa(and vicinity) and down south. In fact, that’s +1 star just for being brave enough to venture into fresh territory. Considering the nature of most Filipino food joints in southern California — you know, the point-at-your-food-and-get-your-tray-stuffed nature — I can’t think of a better location than in a mall food court. It makes more sense, especially, to put it in the UTC food court, where you’ve got options for Vietnamese food, pizza, shawarma, Indian, Mongolian BBQ, or Panda Express, but there has since not been a Filipino food option. So thanks Sizzling Eggrolls for supplying that alternative. I ordered the caldereta(beef) and the pork adobo along with two vegetable lumpia. The caldereta was nice and rich with tender cuts of beef. It was not overly greasy as I’d expect from any place in Mira Mesa. The pork adobo was good too, but with the added sweetness, it wasn’t representative of what I think adobo usually tastes like. As for the lumpia, I’m not sure if they were vegetarian egg rolls, because I could have sworn there was meat in it, but to me that’s a good thing because I like a little meat in my veggie egg rolls. In general I think their food offerings are sound and Sizzling Eggrolls is probably one of the better options for a meal at UTC. I did have a little gripe about their steamed rice — it was a little overcooked and mushy. Rice is a tough one to get right every time, especially if it has to stay in the rice warmer for extended periods of time. I think one solution could be higher turnover, so give Sizzling Eggrolls your business so they can keep making fresh batches of food!

I love the filipino food here! Being Filipino myself, I know that filipino restaurants usually make their foods greasy and I hate it. Places down south are cheaper, but tend to generally be much greasier. The food at this place isn’t as greasy, and the pancit is probably one of the best tasting I’ve had. It’s a bit pricey, but the quality is there to back it up. The employees are nice, and I like the simplicity of the design of the restaurant. «Sizzling Eggrolls» isn’t such a Filipino sounding name, but who cares. Great place– If you want a good representation of Filipino foods, this is the place.

I still don’t understand why it’s called Sizzling Eggrolls. It doesn’t sound so Filipino, but I guess it’s okay. It’s pretty pressuring walking around the UTC food court at night, trying to decide what you want to eat. The empty restaurants are practically staring you down and persuading you with their samples in hopes that you’ll buy something from them. I don’t like being pressured when it comes to eating. I like taking my time. But being Filipino, I was okay the first time when a Filipino lady tried to sell me some Filipino food. Unfortunately, I didn’t buy anything that time because I had already bought food(sorry, auntie!), but I said that I would come again another time. The next time when I go there, it’s an uncle trying to sell me food, along with a big Mexican guy who’s trying to get people to buy Filipino foods that he doesn’t even know the name of. That day I went, I was buying Filipino food for my roommate because it was her birthday(she’s Korean and she LOVES Filipino culture/food/people). I got the combo plate for about $ 7, which included steamed rice, pancit, and lumpia. I asked for a side-order of the chicken adobo. A small side-order of chicken adobo cost me an additional $ 5. Five. Dollars. For a few pieces of chicken adobo. It smells like National City, but I would rather eat Filipino food down there were it’s cheap with gigantic portions.

I grew up eating Filipino foods, and I think this place is pretty authentic. It’s the closest Filipino food from me, and I’m so glad it opened right in the UTC mall! I would personally recommend the Pork sinigang(when they have it) and the Chicken adobo. In addition, I’ve tried the tinola, chicken curry, and kare kare — all GOOD. My only qualm would be that sometimes the rice is a little clumpy and stuck together(which is my rice-pet peeve). Other than that, I encourage anyone who hasn’t tried Filipino food — TOTRYIT!

I don’t really get a chance to go out to eat as much as I would like to but I thought, why not today, get me some food(I didn’t have leftovers). As I drove towards UTC, I though of places around that I could get food but I decided to check out Sizzling Eggrolls again. And today I was not disappointed. They had lechon kawali!!!, I don’t think it appeals to most Americans but for a Filipino. its like candy! We love them fried with fat still visible to munch on. I just finished my two item combo of white rice, pork menudo and lechon kawali. Only thing missing was the lechon sauce but the pork was very good! Hope they make it a regular item… nom nom nom!!!

Ok, so this isn’t the BEST Filipino food that you can get in San Diego… but it’s pretty darn good. I live in the UTC area, and I LOATHE the drive to National City when I’m craving Filipino food. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I found out that the food court at the Westfield mall in UTC had just opened a Filipino restaurant. In the short time that Sizzling Eggrolls has been open, my boyfriend and I have become weekly regulars. He gets the Pancit and Menudo(beef stew-ish) or what I think is Caldereta(when I asked what it was, they called it «Beef Stew»). I usually get the Adobo with rice and some other side dish(depending on what they have that day). The food may not be the most authentic, but for around $ 7 for a plate(pancit+entrée or steamed rice +2 entrees), you can’t get much better than Sizzling Eggrolls in the UTC area(at least as far as Filipino restaurants are concerned). Good food at good prices= we’ll definitely be back soon. :)

I’m a bad Filipino. I’ve eaten my heritage food only once in the last five years, perhaps longer than that. On my trip to the Westfield UTC Mall food court tonight, I heard a voice beckon me. ‘Oy, come ober here’(or something to that effect). I looked down from all of the restaurant signage to see a Pinoy waving me over for some samples of pancit and chicken adobo. I tasted it and moved on to look at all of the other ethnic options. By the time I made it to Rubio’s, I realized that I’ve had a long Filipino food dry spell. I ordered a chicken lumpia, chicken adobo and steamed rice plate. The plate reminded me of a quick meal that my mother would snap together for a weekday meal. The food satisfied and filled me up. As I am now a Filipino food novice, I can’t really say that this place is good. All I can say is that I now have a Filipino restaurant in my UTC backyard. Check it out. The owners are really nice and I’m pretty sure that they’ve just opened.
